Editorial
I recently got challenged by someone on the subject of marriage and weddings, after they asked what my job was. They were trying to trivialise the importance of a wedding – saying: “It’s just a day, nobody really remembers it, what’s the big deal.” I’m not great at confrontation (or being put on the spot), so my response wasn't very impactful. I wish I had time to formulate a proper rebuttal. And this is what I wish I had said...
We all go in to marriage with the hope and commitment that it will last a lifetime. So having a memorable and special wedding day that you can reflect on for the rest of your life is not something to sco at. I certainly know I am not alone in cherishing the memories of my wedding – I think it was the only time in my life that I managed to get all the people I love in a room together; that is so special, and I shall never forget it.
And, I am not the only person to feel this way. The parents (Fred and Linda) of one of my best friends have just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary! They reflect on their wedding every year, they always share photos and memories – they’re one of the happiest couples I know.

So, readers, to set you all o on the right foot, Fred has shared with me his insight into a happy marriage. He tells me that they have always put family and home life first, and that since they met in 1966, they have been inseparable. “Our friendship is a strong bond, as important as our love. In fact, without both I don’t think there could ever be a lasting marriage,” says Fred. “We are still each other’s best friend.”
He also reminds me of the two golden rules of marriage that he gave in his father of the bride speeches for his two daughters. “Number one: never go to bed on an argument – stay up and fight. And number two: every month without fail, make sure you go out for a romantic meal. My night is Monday, hers is Friday!”
I hope you all love this issue of Confetti and that it helps you to create a wedding that’s full of love, friendship and memories that you can reflect upon on your own 50th anniversary. And thank you Fred for the wise words, it's good to remember that a little humour goes a long way, too.

We love the trend for laidback, cool and minimal styling – it’s big news in everything from dresses and accessories to wedding décor, cakes and more. Our front cover and this amazing shoot was styled by Amie Jackson Weddings & Events. Her delicate touch has created a beautiful setting, where attention to detail and elegant finishes have brought this super-cool wedding to life. Amie tells us: “Inspired by minimalist Scandi style, I designed this celebration to feel pared-back, chic and intimate.”
The setting is perfect for a relaxed and low-key affair. We love the use of colours found in nature; those Scandi vibes are effortlessly stylish, tying together a fresh forest feel with a pretty and modern aesthetic. “Focusing on a simple colour scheme, the cool palette of white and tonal greens was kept contemporary with gold accents that add warmth,” says Amie. “To lean into the Scandi inspiration, the look was created to reflect form and function with clean lines and chic yet simple finishing touches. The combination of flowing foliage, minimalist décor and delicate textures created an atmosphere that was light, and welcoming.”

Following a surprise proposal during a weekend in London, Jenny and Jamie decided to tie the knot in August 2019.
“I was on a girls’ weekend with my two best friends when Jamie proposed to me,” remembers Jenny. “My friends were in on the plan when he appeared with roses, Champagne and a ring!”
The couple opted for a romantic summer wedding at Hawkstone Hall in Shropshire. “We looked at a lot of different venues, but we loved the beauty and grandeur of the building and gardens at Hawkstone Hall,” explains Jenny. “The venue could also provide stunning accommodation for our close friends and family.”
With this beautiful location as their backdrop, Jenny and Jamie were able to keep their styling simple with a classic white and gold theme. “I love simple designs, and with the building having so much beauty, we didn’t want to distract from this,” says Jenny. Demure white roses, timeless stationery, and gold and silver candelabras were the perfect elegant touches.
In keeping with their luxurious celebration, Jenny chose to walk down
the aisle in a gorgeous off-the-shoulder gown from Morilee, paired with Steve Madden wedges and chic diamond jewellery. Looking equally stylish, Jamie opted for a tuxedo and black bow tie from Moss Bros, along with Goodwin Smith shoes.
Planning tip: Live by a list! Organise your wedding tasks on paper – things will feel less stressful when they are planned in this way.

Parama & Ricki
After meeting on a few occasions at parties with mutual friends, Parama and Ricki bonded over their shared love of rock climbing. So, it was only fitting that Ricki proposed on top of the Peñón de Ifach in Calpe, Spain. For their elegant wedding, they chose the Fitzrovia Chapel in London, followed by a reception at 41 Portland Place. “I was looking at intimate wedding venues in London, and we chanced upon the Fitzrovia Chapel,” says Parama. “We loved it immediately. The interior is richly decorated, but really peaceful and intimate, too. It felt like a discovery, and we wanted to treat our guests to that experience.”
The reception venue was just a 10-minute walk from the chapel, making it a perfect location. “We had the whole venue to ourselves, with three rooms and a terrace on the first floor for guests to spread out,” says Parama. “The main room for the dinner is beautiful, with large sash windows and pillars by the entrance. There was a collective ‘ooh’ from our guests when they opened the doors for dinner.”
Parama’s wedding style was as chic and demure as the venue’s – her dress from Ghost was pretty and eye-catching. It suited her desire for something unique but not too traditional or formal.
As their wedding was an afternoon and evening affair in late October, the couple opted for a wintry colour palette to suit the season. Parama’s bouquet, and the floral display in the chapel, comprised rich tones of burgundy, deep blue, pink and dark greens; and this was carried through to the decorations at the reception, as well as the wedding cake – red velvet with burgundy icing.
The tables were decorated with pillar candles and ivy centrepieces, with candles and floral arrangements on tables and stands around the room. The pair served their guests a three-course meal, with white and red wine to complete the spread. “As a couple, we are into our cocktails, so we had ‘his and hers’ cocktails, too – a negroni and an old fashioned,” adds Parama.
Planning tip Go with your instincts! We made decisions quickly because we had to – we couldn’t start planning until international travel rules eased so my parents could fly in. We had to be really pragmatic, but it worked well because we were going with our gut. When we originally planned, pre-pandemic, we were stressing ourselves out with too many options and second guessing everything.
These three gorgeous girls tell us all about the highs and lows of finding their dream dress
TAMSIN
Photos: Claire Basiuk Photography
For her wedding at Rosehill House Hotel in Burnley, Tamsin Johnson wore the stunning Tuscany from Amy Mair Couture. However, her dream dress search didn’t go smoothly in the beginning. “The first boutique I went to was very high-end, the dresses were beautiful, but far too small. And I’m only a size 10!” explains Tamsin. “Not every bride is a UK size 8. In fact, the average dress size in the UK is 16 – I’d really like to see more bridal boutiques with a broader range of sample sizes to reflect that.”
After this experience, she searched for somewhere else to find her dress, and on Instagram she discovered Cult Bridal Studio in Nottingham. “I took a look at the feed and it definitely catered more to my taste, so I went ahead and booked an appointment,” says Tamsin.
As well as the dresses on offer, and the warm welcome she received, Tamsin loved the personal touches that owner Rami organised at the shop. “There was a little ‘Welcome Tamsin’ on a pegboard sign above the mirror that I noticed at once. Rami then had it there for every single one of my appointments. She has a really warm, calming personality. She listened to exactly what I liked. I never felt rushed and it meant that I could really pause to think about exactly what I wanted.”
As Tamsin lives away from family, and due to Covid restrictions, she went to her first appointment alone. “I actually think it was a really good thing because I had a clear head,” she muses. Her friend Emma joined her for her second appointment, with other members of the bridal party attending over Zoom. Her mum was able to attend the final dress fitting.
In terms of top tips, Tamsin says: “Never rule out a style of dress, whether that be fishtail, princess or A-line. And don’t let any potential hang-ups about your body get in the way of you trying on THAT dress.” TOP TIP
Don't be pressured into buying a dress. If the boutique is really looking after your best interests, they will give you time to make a decision.
EMMA
Photos: Freya Raby Photography
Stella York style 6865 was the perfect fit for bride Emma Pooleman for her big day at All Saints Church in Helmsley, followed by The Pheasant Hotel, Harome. She visited a number of boutiques in the hunt for her dream dress. “I found a beautiful dress, and the shop owner immediately said they would take 50% off the cost if I took it that day. It was very pressuring and didn’t make me feel comfortable,” remembers Emma. “Another shop I went to was really busy, with other brides trying on dresses – people coming and going everywhere. I just did not feel special.”
Luckily, some friends recommended a local boutique to her, particularly referencing the friendly team, so Emma went ahead and booked an appointment at The Little Pearl.
“I can’t give enough credit to Diana the owner, and her team,” says Emma. “They made me feel beautiful and special throughout the whole experience. It took me a while to find the right dress, but each time I visited, the girls were so friendly, welcoming and patient with me. Nothing was too much trouble for them.”
Once you find your dress at the shop, you become a ‘Pearl’s Girl’ – an experience that Emma loved. “I had an ‘I said yes to the dress’ moment photo with my mum, sister and auntie. And then we were given fizz to toast, a welcome pack, card and a magazine! I cannot thank the team at The Little Pearl enough. It’s been a stressful couple of years with wedding postponements, but the team were so supportive throughout the whole process.”
Emma’s advice to other brides is to go and have their own ‘Pearl’s Girl’ moment, and find a boutique that makes them feel special. “Keep trying on dresses until you are happy –don’t rush, you’ll know when it’s 'the one' and you’ll never want to take it off,” she says. “And also, don’t take too many people with you. Ignore everyone else’s opinions; what matters is that you love the dress and that you feel comfortable. It’s your day!”
After finding Heart Aflutter Bridal in London on Instagram, bride Sophie Maasland knew this was the boutique for her. For her wedding at The Beacon in Tunbridge Wells, she chose the Alpha dress from Vagabond. But what made her love her boutique? “They were amazing communicators and were super flexible as we were in the Jan-Mar 2021 Covid lockdown,” says Sophie. “I used their ‘at home’ service, which meant I could try on dresses in my home and return them to store. Given the time frame and how helpful they were, it was an easy choice to go with Heart Aflutter.”
The boutique had an initial Zoom session with Sophie to get to know her and her style. Owner Cecilia showed her some options she hadn’t considered before and got a real feel for what would suit her. “They listened to all my concerns about buying in lockdown and put every single one at ease – they’re so knowledgeable!”
Although Sophie’s experience of shopping was all done at home, she still adored trying all the dresses on and seeing how the different silhouettes and fabrics looked. “It was so interesting seeing what suited my body and what didn’t – it instantly changed what I thought I wanted! I went from big and lacy to classic and sleek!” Sophie used modern technology to her advantage; she had her friends, mum and sister on a video call to see all the gowns.
Sophie’s dress shopping advice to other brides? Simple, don’t over shop! “I went to one boutique pre-lockdown and had no idea what I wanted. We then locked-down and I had no choice but to make a decision! As soon as I tried on my dress, it felt like the right choice and I knew that I didn’t need to look any further.”
TOP TIPS FOR SHOPPING
● Many wedding dresses can take up to eight months to be produced –and thanks to the pandemic, maybe a little longer. So make sure you shop with plenty of time. You should also factor in time for alterations and finding accessories, too!
● Set your budget. Before you start shopping, make sure you have a
number in your head. If you know you can’t go over this, tell your consultant so you don’t end up falling in love with a gown that you can’t a ord.
● Find a good boutique by doing your homework! Check out their website and Instagram, and have a look at the styles they carry. Get recommendations from friends and
TOP TIP areAccessories an important thing to factor in. Ask your boutique for their help and if they can show you styles to suit the dresswant.you
check out online reviews – good customer service really is worth its weight in gold.
● Don’t shop for your dress until you have a venue. Decide upon whether you want a laid-back festival wedding, a formal a air, or a cocktail party first – and then you can browse styles that suit the vibe.

Shopping for your maids is no mean feat. The creative talent behind Miabelle, Lydia Jones, answers your questions...
When should brides start looking for maids dresses? There are no set timelines, it’s your wedding, so you get to make your own rules. But, that said, you can make life easier and less stressful by not leaving dress shopping too late. For our dresses, we need around four to five months to make an order, and this will be the case for many brands. This may seem a long time, but fabrics need to be sourced, dyed and cut to each maid’s measurements. They are created bespoke to your requirements, and alterations can take up to a month on top of this – a good time frame would be seven to eight months ahead of the wedding. Should I find my own gown before my maids dresses? This is really down to personal choice. In my opinion, I would prioritise the bride as it can set the vibe for the whole bridal party. If the wedding dress is modern and minimalistic, then a chic and simple bridesmaid style might work best, in a rich colour like hunter green. If the bridal gown is a dreamy tulle dress, then a bridesmaid style with floaty sleeves in mix and match colours could look stunning. Do I need to have something in mind before I start looking? We’re all di erent, some of us are planners and some of us are spontaneous. Some of us are creatives and some need to be inspired. The main thing is to relax and just do you! A Pinterest board is a great starting point. Print your favourite images out and make a little collage on your kitchen wall or in your journal. Think about the di erent body shapes within your bridal party and get their thoughts on what necklines they like best. Be careful though, too many opinions can get tricky. I would recommend that the bride chooses the colour and two or three dresses that she likes as a starting point.

Who’s who?
Trying to put together your wedding party, but don’t know where to start? Here’s who you should ask to take on these special roles
Your wedding party should be made up of your favourite people – the ones you want by your side leading up to, and on, the big day. But, when you’re planning your wedding, it’s hard to know who you can ask to do what – and what responsibilities traditionally fall with which role. Want some clarity? We’ve got a round up of the key players and what they can help you with. Bear in mind that there are also no hard and fast rules. You can change things up and delegate different people to do whatever you like! Your wedding, your rules!
MAID OF HONOUR
directing the photographer, sorting out details at the venue, getting everyone seated for speeches, etc.) They will also be in charge of the stag festivities, giving a memorable speech (no pressure) and looking after the wedding rings.
BRIDESMAIDS
COSTS
The bridal party will probably expect to part with some cash in the run up to the big day. Typically, those invited on the stag or hen will pay for it themselves, and often chip in to cover the cost of the bride/ groom, too. It’s also common to ask your bridesmaids and groomsmen to contribute towards, or pay, for their outfits. Money conflicts can really blow up during wedding planning, so be open and honest with your friends about budgets from the outset to save any awkwardness.
Essentially, this is your best mate – so you may choose to have a man or person of honour. The role comes with lots of responsibilities and is a key figure in helping the bride prep for all aspects of the big day: from planning details to selecting bridesmaid dresses. In the lead-up to the wedding, they are responsible for things like attending dress fittings and – very importantly –planning the hen party. On the wedding day, your maid of honour will be there to support you, help get you ready, and be the first port of call if you need any assistance with the set-up or arrangements.
BEST MAN
The best man takes on many of the same duties as the maid of honour. Again, this will usually be a best pal or sibling. This person will stand by the groom’s side during the wedding and also offer any help that’s needed throughout the day (maybe
Step in the bridesquad! This is the role for your closest friends or relatives that you want to be a special part of your wedding. While bridesmaids are traditionally women, mixed bridal parties are brilliant, too. On the wedding day, the bridesmaids will walk down the aisle ahead of the bride. They are there to support you on the day, offer advice during the planning, and help the maid of honour with the hen do.
GROOMSMEN / USHERS
These are the bridesmaids’ counterparts. They are usually close friends or relatives of the groom, and are there to support him in any way he may need. They will help to seat guests, distribute the order of service and point people in the right direction throughout the day. They can also help the best man with planning the stag do… and maybe help out with speeches.
FLOWER GIRLS & PAIGE BOYS
Got a super cute niece or nephew? Or maybe a member of the bridal party has an utterly adorable little one? Then this is the role for them. Whoever takes on the duties typically walks down the aisle with the bridesmaids, dropping petals as they go.
Guest lists MADE SIMPLE
Start early
A micro wedding removes the stress of planning a big formal event, but it doesn’t eliminate the struggles of creating a guest list. Your final list dictates a lot of factors – from your venue and seating plan through to your budget. Costs per head is one of the biggest expenses, so think carefully about the exact size and style of wedding you’re after and get your process started early – it might take longer than you think!
 Decide your VIPs
When it comes to planning your list, think about who you wouldn’t want to get married without – these are your VIPs and should always be given priority. Then, review who you have a genuine connection with. If you want a small wedding, you shouldn’t feel obliged to invite colleagues or friends you’re no longer in touch with. The same applies to distant family members, your parents’ friends or plus ones you hardly know. A child-free wedding is also an option if you want to keep your numbers down – just make sure it’s clear on your invitations.
3Consider your venue
There are so many venues with beautiful spaces specifically for smaller weddings. So if you want a micro wedding, consider a venue that matches the occasion. After all, people are more
It’s tricky knowing who to invite to your wedding – and even harder if you’re planning a micro celebration. Here are our top tips for keeping your guest list intimate and in check…
likely to understand why they weren’t invited if your venue simply doesn’t have the capacity! Similarly, if you’ve always dreamt of marrying overseas, this could be a perfect opportunity. Many people won’t expect an invitation to a wedding abroad, or won’t be able to attend if you’ve chosen a far-flung location.

Be realistic
If you have a big family and lots of close friends, a venue for 50 may not work for you. It’s important to be honest about what you want for your special day, as an intimate wedding simply might not align. But, if your budget doesn’t stretch for a lavish affair either, a great compromise is to have elements of a micro event instead. To do this, why not consider an intimate ceremony and breakfast, followed by a larger evening party with everybody you love?
Communicate honestly
Thankfully, as it becomes more common to have a smaller celebration, people shouldn’t be offended if they’re not invited to your wedding. If tying the knot in front of a select few is important to you, the best thing is to be firm about what you want. Your wedding should always be a reflection of you and your partner, so if you’re footing the bill, it’s your choice who you do – or don’t – invite to your day.
Supplier
QUESTIONS
There’s a lot to think about when planning a wedding. Here are the top 10 questions you need to ask to make sure everything goes smoothly…
Is this venue licensed for civil ceremonies?
The first thing to do after confirming your venue’s availability is to check whether it’s licensed for civil ceremonies. If it’s not, you can always opt for a celebrant-led ceremony, but you’ll need to look into a local church or register office if you want to legally wed on the day.
Can we use our own suppliers at this venue?
Many venues have catering contracts or an approved list of suppliers for their couples to use. This is great if you don’t have recommendations, but if you have your heart set on a specific supplier, you’ll need to check you can definitely use them before paying a deposit or signing on the dotted line.
What happens if we need to cancel or postpone?
In current times, it’s vital you ask your suppliers about the worstcase scenario. If you need to cancel, or your wedding is postponed, make sure you know what would happen. Check everything in your contracts, too.
Are there additional fees we need to be aware of?
Extra costs have a huge implication on your budget so it’s best to ask outright. Check about your suppliers’ travel and accommodation fees, VAT prices and whether there might be any additional charges on specific dates.
Do you have insurance?
It’s really important that all your suppliers have insurance in case of any mishaps. Reputable suppliers should all have their own insurance and will be more than happy to confirm this with you. Don’t forget your own insurance, too – this will help give you peace of mind.
For more planning advice and our list of recommended suppliers, visit confetti.co.uk
What’s your backup plan?
Sometimes things go wrong and it’s best that you’re prepared. To know that your wedding is in good hands, check what would happen if unexpectedly your suppliers can’t provide their services. A good supplier will have a backup plan in case of illness or any other issue.
Will we be working directly with you on the day?
If you’re using a big company, ask who your main contact is and who will be available in the lead up to the wedding and on the day itself.
For
your photographer, check if you should expect a second shooter, too.
Do you need a meal on the day?
Will our wedding be your only one that day?
It’s easy to assume that your wedding will be your suppliers’ sole focus – but, unfortunately, that’s not always the case. If you want to be the only ones at your venue, check you have exclusive use. You should also confirm the hours in your photography package, as well as when certain suppliers will be available.
What does the package include?
Always read the small print and request a breakdown of everything that’s included in each of your supplier packages. Remember, too, that these aren’t always set in stone – so feel free to ask about adjustments if there’s anything you want changed.
If you’re hiring suppliers for the full day, such as your wedding planner or photographer, they’ll need to be fed! Make sure you ask about their meal expectations and whether they have any dietary requirements.
Ask the boutique
Diana McMann, owner of The Little Pearl Bridal Boutique, lets us in on the all-important Qs to ask before a dress shopping appointment…
“What price range are your dresses?” If you’re on a budget, this is really important to ask right away – it would be heartbreaking to fall in love with a dress you can’t a ord!
“What sizes are your sample dresses?” Make sure your chosen boutique caters to you and has a good selection of sizes and styles for you to try on.
“Do you do in-house alterations?” Some boutiques recommend seamstresses and others have their own in-house service. Knowing this beforehand can help you plan arrangements.
“How many people can I bring with me?” It’s really important you have people with you who you trust. Your boutique will be able to give recommendations and suggest how many people is best.
“I’m marrying soon – can you help?” If you have a short timescale, you’ll want to know how quickly your boutique can get a dress in for you, or if they have samples to buy o the peg.
THE SPRING AWAKENING
PLANNING & STYLING: THE STARS INSIDE
PHOTOGRAPHY: SARA COOPER
WWe’re in love with this dreamy micro wedding, full of gorgeous blooms and elegant yet laid-back styling
ith a glorious mix of floral tones, this elegant affair is all the inspiration we need for a care-free wedding day. It's set at the beautiful Painshill Park, an 18th century landscape garden that was created between 1738 and 1773 by the Hon. Charles Hamilton. He created a sequence of breathtaking and surprising vistas, all inspired by landscape paintings and Grand Tours across Europe The gardens form living works of art – making it the perfect backdrop to a dreamy wedding.
Valentina Ring of The Stars
Inside – who created this lush aesthetic – tells us that she wanted to create a spring awakening. “We wanted to tell the story of a chic, playful, luxurious wedding that celebrates freedom and hope,” she says. “It’s a story of adaptability, healing, and unstoppable love: it’s finding courage, light, and creativity even during difficult times, and knowing that the best is very much yet to come.”
In terms of styling, inspiration for the dreamy arrangement came from myths and legends –in particular, the tales of Antheia, the Greek goddess of flowers, swamps, and gardens – she was also the Roman goddess of human love and trust.
“We had floral motifs woven into the stationery, tablecloth, and embroidered veil, while the dresses and jewellery were chosen to be echos of the sparkling waters,” says Valentina. The colours used are a gorgeous spring blend; pretty blush hues and fl ashes of zesty brightness.
“For our colour palette, we chose an organic pairing of peachy pinks, bright citrusy tones, and pops of berry burgundies. We wanted every part of the day to feel deeply wild but still elevated and refi ned. For us, this is luxury: being able to celebrate love while surrounded by nature’s majesty.”

Colour
Vibrant colour will be big in 2022. This joyful bouquet is a rainbow of flowers, with red anemones and ruffled lemon poppies taking centre stage. Dreamy ranunculus feature in three shades: magenta, baby pink and orange, alongside textured lilac clematis and purple scabious. The bouquet pops against the lime of the lady’s mantle, and subtle blue of the forget-me-nots.
Floral INSPIRATION
One of Confetti’s favourite floral designers, Rachel Bull of House of Dandelions, discusses the latest trends for beautiful blooms and fabulous foliage
Everlasting bouquets
As a more eco option, the dried flower trend is showing no sign of abating. The red phalaris grasses and yellow craspedia stand out in this bouquet, adding an element of fun. They tone beautifully with the pink larkspur, purple ranunculus, mustard lona and orange safflower, while the poppy pods, lavender and oat grasses add greater depth.
Greenery
When it comes to large installations, foliage on its own can be just as effective as an abundance of blooms. This huge urn design is filled with luscious beech branches. Nestled in amongst them are burgundy smoke bush, cotoneaster and several spindly rowan branches. The hawthorn berries add a contrasting texture and feel perfectly at home in amongst the greenery.

Locally grown
Couples are becoming much more mindful about where their flowers are grown. With often more choice available in spring and summer, it’s little wonder that British flowers continue to increase in popularity. These delights include a stunning pink echinacea, nestled next to apricot cosmos and orange straw flower. The dahlias and bright yellow rudbeckia blooms sit amongst purple flowering mint and soft grasses, giving a wild and natural feel.
Wow factor
Think monochromatic colour schemes, unexpected combinations and attention-grabbing flowers. This arrangement comprises of only three flower varieties. The fuzzy, yellow mimosa balls echo the round shape of the peach and salmon ranunculus, which when combined creates a memorable design. The nude butterfl y ranunculus soften the bouquet and help to draw the eye outwards.
Whites and greens
The classic, elegant combination of whites and greens will always be in style. To avoid this feeling too conventional, think about where you can add drama and personality with your venue arrangements. This mantlepiece design uses jasmine, ammi and sweet pea vines to create an abundant, wild shape with lots of movement. The pompom dahlias, Japanese anemones and frilly scabious are the stars of the show, while the hydrangeas dutifully fill in the gaps.

VENUES
UNIQUE, CLASSIC AND CONTEMPORARY SETTINGS FOR YOUR DREAM WEDDING
Culture, history, romance…
Lovers of culture, art and history who want a unique venue for their special day might want to consider landmark buildings, museums or galleries. Liverpool is blessed with a huge number of amazing cultural buildings. In fact, National Museums Liverpool (NML) has seven gorgeous venues, the oldest dating back to the 1800s, and includes some of the most visited museums in England outside of London. One of the most unique and alluring venues is The Lady Lever Art Gallery, located in Port Sunlight – a magnificent BeauxArts-style building – with a beautiful grand hall and a spectacular collection of fine and decorative art. Angela Case and Mark Gibson recently became the first ever couple to hold a wedding reception there, and had a dream day. “After a two-year romance that started just before the pandemic, we wanted to make sure our wedding was a unique and memorable day for us all to enjoy,” says Angela. “The building is stunning and made for some brilliant photographs and memories – being the first couple to host a wedding reception there felt very special.” Could this be your dream venue, too? liverpoolmuseums.org.uk

Want to combine an overseas wedding with a romantic retreat? Here are our favourite spots for a twin-centre celebration
MARRY IN… SORRENTO
ITALY
Weddings in Italy are undeniably romantic. From the rolling hills of Tuscany to the picturesque Amalfi Coast, you have a choice of magical spots to say ‘I do’. One of our favourites is cliff-top Sorrento with its blush buildings and sweeping water views. In this part of Italy, stunning surroundings are part and parcel so you can take your pick of dreamy fairytale venues. For a sprinkling of medieval charm, you’ll adore Sorrento’s Cloisters of San Francesco. Tucked within the walls of a monastery, this historic venue is an enchanting location that’s steeped in history. With its gorgeous outdoor courtyard surrounded by gothic arches and trailing vines, this is the venue for you if you want an intimate – and utterly mesmerising –ceremony. When it comes to your reception, there are boutique hotels and luxe villas aplenty in Sorrento with many offering classic outdoor settings. One we particularly love is Hotel Mediterraneo with its modern terrace overlooking the glittering bay – perfect for all those big day photos.
HOLIDAY IN…. SICILY
If you’re marrying in Sorrento, you’ll definitely want a few days to enjoy the Sorrentine Peninsula and beautiful Amalfi Coast. Then, for your honeymoon getaway, the Italian island of Sicily needs to be on your radar. Just a short flight from Naples, you’ll find yourself in the historic city of Catania, which offers a gateway to the ultra-pretty Taormina. Located on the east coast, this charming town encapsulates romance, making it a must for a southern Italian sojourn. This Sicilian jewel is one of the island’s best-loved towns and offers visitors lots to see and do. For history lovers, the ancient amphitheatre is a sight to behold, while adventurous couples will jump at the chance to explore the hiking trails of active Mount Etna – the scenery is beautiful. And if lounging on a beach is more your idea of bliss? You’ll find a variety of beaches in the area, too, from small pebbly bays to glorious golden stretches. When it comes to somewhere to stay, consider the Grand Hotel Timeo – a deluxe hideaway overlooking the coast.
MARRY IN… MARBELLA
TRAVEL
SPAIN
Tie the knot in Spain and you’ll be treated to great weather, gorgeous scenery and lively fiesta vibes. Across the mainland and islands, there’s a host of stunning venues fit for a whole variety of wedding themes and styles. If you’re dreaming of a trendy beachside affair, one place you’ll want to prioritise is the sun-drenched city of Marbella. Sheltered by mountains on the sparkling southern coast, this city is Spain’s answer to St Tropez, so you can expect plenty of glamorous spots to swap rings here. For a cool beach club wedding, Marbella is definitely the right place and we recommend checking out Nikki Beach – a coveted luxury space overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Or for a grand soirée, consider Villa Del Mar at the exclusive Marbella Club. Set in lush Andalusian gardens right by the beach, this majestic venue is an elegant choice for a sophisticated wedding. Whichever you choose, we promise you’ll have exceptional hospitality and a seriously dreamy setting for your big day!
HOLIDAY IN…. SEVILLE
Following a beach wedding, a great option for your honeymoon is a sophisticated city break. Located inland, Seville is the largest city in the region of Andalusia and a fantastic spot for a romantic getaway. If you’re happy to hire a car, the city can be reached in under three hours from Marbella, and you also have the option of stopping at the striking town of Ronda en route. Seville itself is a buzzing destination that will win you over with its fairytale architecture, sun-washed plazas and sultry vibes. During the day, you’ll have lots to fill your time, including visits to the magical Real Alcázar and historical Plaza de España. However, it’s in the evenings that this city really comes alive. Renowned for its nightlife, a honeymoon here involves balmy evenings discovering flamenco, sampling authentic tapas and drinking sangria at the terraza bars that spill across the city. When you’re finally ready for sleep, you won’t be short of quality hotels here either. A top option is the grand Hotel Alfonso XIII, which offers a heavenly setting for catching your Zzzs.
MARRY IN… SANTORINI
GREECE
Greece is the ideal destination if you’re after a backdrop of picturesque towns and unspoilt beaches. Each island has different characteristics, which means there’s somewhere perfect for every type of wedding here, too. While lesser-known islands are becoming more popular, hotspots like Santorini are famous for good reason. With its whitewashed houses, blue-domed churches and twisting alleyways, Santorini is one of the most beautiful locations in the world, which makes it perfect for an unforgettable day! From Firá to Oia, Santorini has an abundance of luxury venues so you’ll be spoilt for choice if you host a civil ceremony or symbolic blessing here. Venues generally offer breathtaking views, and options like Le Ciel are no exception. Canaves Oia’s stylish and secluded properties also promise an idyllic setting for your wedding. If you want to close your day with one of the island’s renowned sunsets, we recommend the Sunset Terrace at Canaves Oia Epitome – a rustic-luxe space perched above the fishing port of Ammoudi.
HOLIDAY IN…. CRETE
Beautiful Greece attracts visitors from all over the world. It's an incredible honeymoon destination and one you definitely need to make the most of if you’re getting hitched here. Thanks to its location, Santorini is a great starting point if you fancy hopping to other islands in the Cyclades group such as Mykonos, Naxos or Ios. But, for slightly different scenery, we suggest a getaway to the sunny island of Crete. As the largest island of Greece, Crete has lots to offer – from heavenly beaches to diverse rural landscapes and colourful old towns. Honeymoon here and your days will be spent soaking up sunshine, exploring natural beauty spots such as Samariá Gorge and taking snaps at the pretty pink Elafonissi beach. Chic resorts are found across the island so you can be sure of a glam place to stay. The Syntopia Hotel in Rethymno is a really cool choice for honeymooners with its free-spirited boho vibe. Likewise, Daios Cove is a blissful retreat that’s nestled in the hillside overlooking a private bay – perfect for your first relaxing escape as newlyweds.

Island ESCAPES
Here’s why a luxurious beach getaway is the honeymoon you’ve been dreaming of…
Beaches and honeymoons go hand in hand. The traditional island getaway offers everything you could want for a romantic holiday – breathtaking scenery, beautiful weather and dreamy accommodation. It delivers the ultimate relaxing escape, where you can enjoy quality time together in a peaceful setting far from the stresses of everyday life.
A round the world, there’s an amazing choice of islands to welcome in married life in style. Each destination promises an unforgettable getaway where you can explore colourful underwater worlds, sunbathe on powder-white sands and raise a glass while you watch the sunset in paradise.
LUXE HIDEAWAYS
If you’re looking to splash out on a once-in-a-lifetime escape, the beach honeymoon ticks the right boxes. Most islands offer pristine five-star accommodation, but not many can compete with the Maldives. A pictureperfect haven, the Maldives is the epitome of honeymoon bliss, with its secluded beaches, turquoise seas and abundance of lavish resorts.
nothing but sparkling sea vistas, the Maldives is the right place! Resorts here are often on their own private island and accessible only by seaplane or boat – which means you’ll quite literally be on a remote tropical island in the middle of the Indian Ocean.
Perfect for those after pure R&R, the Maldives boasts sensational resorts such as Velaa Private Island and Emerald Maldives Resort & Spa, which come complete with butlers, worldclass spas, private pools and overwater villas. All-inclusive is also the standard and, unlike in other destinations, you generally won’t leave your resort –something which probably won’t be an issue when you’re staying in heavenly surroundings!
NATURAL PARADISE
For an exotic escape surrounded by
The Maldives is an incredible option for barefoot luxury and absolutely delivers if you want a postcard-worthy honeymoon. But, if you want more to see and do, you might also want to consider somewhere like the Seychelles. As another Indian Ocean hotspot, the Seychelles is an ultra-romantic destination that’s loved by many famous faces – including the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who had their honeymoon there in 2011.
Comprised of 115 scattered isles, the Seychelles offers similar levels of

privacy and has some of the world’s best beaches, including Anse Source d’Argent, which is one of the most photographed in the world. As well as this, you’ll also find lush nature reserves, glittering marine parks and stunning natural landscapes – meaning your honeymoon can be filled with exploration trips to discover everything these beautiful islands have to offer.
If you want a choice of smaller resorts, the Seychelles will hit the right notes for you, too, with its exclusive beachside hotels and back-to-nature retreats. On the largest island of Mahé, we particularly love Anantara Maia Seychelles Villas which has 30 private villas all with dazzling views. Head slightly further afield and you’ll find Four Seasons Resort Seychelles at Desroches Island – a gorgeously rustic hideaway that’s also home to the rare Aldabra giant tortoise.
FARAWAY ESCAPES
French Polynesia needs to be one of your options for a bucket list adventure that’s mixed with beachside bliss.
Often compared with the Maldives as the ultimate honeymoon destination, French Polynesia gives you signature overwater bungalows, but also the opportunity to travel between islands. In addition to the famous isles of Bora Bora, Tahiti and Moorea, there’s a host of others you can visit in French Polynesia, with boat transfers and interisland flights making it easy to explore.
With endless incredible places to stay, it’s easy to see why sun-soaked getaways are so popular. Yet while many honeymooners dream of relaxing on a remote island, a quiet beach break isn’t for everyone. If that’s you and you’re worried that an isolated escape might leave you restless, island hopping could be a perfect alternative.
Although not usually as common in the Maldives, island hopping makes a fab itinerary in the Seychelles if you want to split your time between a few luxe resorts. And if you’re lucky enough to have several weeks off ? Far-flung
Whether you travel around or opt for a single base, we promise you won’t be disappointed! Renowned as one of the most beautiful locations in the world, French Polynesia guarantees an utterly magical honeymoon that will make all your friends and family jealous. You’ll also have the chance to take part in hiking trips, vibrant cultural excursions and adventure activities, so you won’t be lost for things to do.
Not surprisingly, French Polynesia has an impressive choice of loved-up retreats, too, including the super swanky St. Regis Bora Bora Resort. Despite being notoriously expensive, budget-friendly options are also possible with Airbnbs and guesthouses sprinkled across the islands – perfect for a more authentic experience.

Vietnam ADVENTURE
Indra and Will tell us about their non-stop, multi-destination
honeymoon
We had 16 days to play with and knew we wanted to go long haul after a mini-moon in Cornwall. Vietnam had always been on our bucket list, so when it came to our honeymoon, it was the only place we really looked at. We wanted to pack in as much as possible, but at the same time, we didn’t want to have an exhausting experience. We flew from Heathrow to Singapore, and then from there to Ho Chi Minh in the south. It’s a bustling city and quite overwhelming to arrive there at night – the heat and humidity was a lot! We stayed at the Hyatt Saigon for three nights, which felt cool and luxurious after the long flight. It was the perfect place from which to explore the city, and the front desk helped us to book a couple of mini-tours. We did a lot of exploring on foot, and there was so much to see – I can’t say it was a relaxing start, but it was certainly memorable. The museums are outstanding, and there is a lot to learn about the country’s history. We loved our visit to Cho Ben Thành, a huge food and trinket market. The hustle and bustle is so atmospheric, and the food… we had Bánh mì, the national sandwich, rice paper summer rolls, pork pancakes. Everything was delicious. The city is just stunning – so much French architecture that we weren’t expecting, hidden parks and temples line the streets. It's amazing. We flew from there to Hoi An, where we spent five nights at Sunrise Resort. It is located just outside the town, backing onto a private beach. I cannot recommend this hotel enough! The pools and outdoor relaxation areas are amazing. There are tennis courts, too – although the heat meant we only played once. Hoi An is a real foodie destination, so as well as sightseeing the amazing temples, we ate a lot. You can literally go from restaurant to restaurant and try out local dishes. Our favourite place was Cargo – it had some of the best food I’ve ever eaten. We also did a cycling excursion with Heaven & Earth Tours to the My Son temples – this was one of the most amazing parts of our trip. We cycled through the forests, villages and paddy fields filled with bison. It was just incredible. From Hoi An we flew to Hanoi and spent a night there before travelling to the famous Halong Bay. We stayed on a cruise ship for three nights and it was spectacular. Even though it was pretty overcast, the scenery is where my mind immediately goes to when I think of Vietnam – the islands and rocks are just beautiful. There were kayaks on board that you could take out, and certain spots where we jumped out and swam. We loved every minute. We spent our final three nights in Hanoi – which is such a different city to Ho Chi Minh. Again, the food scene and temples there were the highlights, as well as the museums. We did a street food tour that was booked through our hotel – Silk Path – and discovered that the city has a famous beer and gin quarter… which lead to a very hungover flight back, this time via Kuala Lumpa!
