EDITOR'S NOTES

DRESS

Our cover model Pip is wearing the ultra-pretty Magdalene gown, designed exclusively for The Wedding Gallery by SS Couture. It is a dreamy dress that is ideal for princess brides who want to feel pretty and ultra-feminine. We adore the full skirt, matched with a long-sleeved top featuring plenty of illusion lace and pretty floral appliqué. It's the perfect gown for a spring bride!

JEWELLERY

As the dress has so many details, we wanted to match it with some delicate items that didn't detract from the overall elegance. We chose the stunning Rose Gold Vermeil Cherry Blossom Drop Diamond and Pearl Earrings by Shaun Leane at The Wedding Gallery. These feature delicate clusters of cherry blossom with individually-enamelled petals and freshwater pearl studs.

FLOWERS

Our divine bouquet was created by Sorcha Herbert of Sorcha Herbert Flowers. The soft pink and white mix is so pretty and romantic, ideal for a classic bridal look that's full of elegance.

Anna-Marie DeSouza Editor

This year marks 11 years since I attended my first destination wedding – one of my best friends tied the knot in beautiful Santorini. It was a perfect affair and I loved every moment of it. She had invited her nearest and dearest to the ceremony in Greece, and then decided to have a party back at home for her wider circle to celebrate with her. I know she put a huge amount of time and effort into both wedding celebrations; in the back of her mind, she just wanted all her guests to have a great time! Her ‘at home’ party was at the local rugby club and sticks in my mind for so many reasons – firstly, I was wearing the BEST EVER gold skirt, secondly, I remember both my besties and I rocking some amazing moves on the dancefloor and, finally, it was the night I met my husband. Fast forward to 2020, and we are celebrating nine years of marriage. I don't remember the flowers, or the colour scheme, nor how anything was decorated – but I do remember having one of the best days ever.

Obviously that was a great excuse for me to share the story of how I met my partner, but it is also my roundabout way of highlighting that every one of your wedding guests will take away very different happy memories from your special day… and I can guarantee that they won’t have noticed, nor will they remember, any of the things that you may be worrying about. Spend your big day with the people you love, and who you know will have the best time celebrating with you – and don’t worry about the roses not being quite the right shade of pink, or that your groomsmen are a bit hungover. In the future, all those small elements will just add to the rich memories of your big day.

P.S. If you want some extra help getting organised for your big day, then don't forget to log on to the new look confetti.co.uk. The website has been transformed into a beautiful, easy-to-navigate platform with all the tools and information that brides and grooms need in order to plan and book the best day ever. You'll see more real life weddings, the latest stag and hen ideas, fresh decoration trends and the very latest wedding dress styles straight from the catwalk! LOOK BEHIND THE SCENES...

This edition’s cover embraces spring, with a glorious array of blooms and plenty of energy

The cover of Confetti this issue was shot on location at The Wedding Gallery (the-weddinggallery.com), situated in the iconic One Marylebone in the heart of London. It’s a gorgeous, super-inspiring space that’s filled with everything a bride could possibly wish for. It’s a true wedding paradise; a treasure trove of bridal dresses and jewellery, planning services, cake experts, florists and more. It’s utterly dreamy – so there was no better place to capture our front cover.

O n the day, we were joined by dynamic photography duo, Bater & Street (baterandstreet.com), who captured the perfect shots. We were lucky enough to dress our model, Pip, in the latest collection by SS

Couture, a fresh new brand designed exclusively for The Wedding Gallery. The dresses in the collection are picture-perfect – the outstanding quality and attention to detail means they sit beautifully alongside the other luxury labels in the store, which include famous names such as Oscar De La Renta, Elie Saab, Suzanne Neville and Vera Wang.

SS Couture is designed in London by a team of bridal stylists with years of combined experience. The collection was conceptualised with the intention to create a ‘stylist's edit’ of beautiful and luxurious bridal gowns – and they have certainly achieved this goal!

The gowns available are really chic, and each is different, offering plenty of character and charm. We loved all the designs, but our bespoke cover dress was

The Julia dress is super pretty. We love the halter style and the gorgeous full skirt
This striking bouquet has plenty of texture – the ideal companion for a glamorous wedding dress

selected thanks to its ultra-pretty details.

The Magdalene is a beautiful ballgown in the skirt and silhouette, and offers the perfect look for princess brides – the attention to detail is simply gorgeous. The dress also features one of this season’s hottest trends – long sleeves. Plenty of illusion lace and floral appliqués add depth for a super-pretty finishing touch.

As with any bridal look, the jewellery used on our shoot was selected to complement the details of the gowns. We fell in love with the floral pearl and rose gold earrings from Shaun Leane; they are elegant and detailed in equal measure.

The look was also matched with an elegant pair of heels from British brand Freya Rose, and the ultimate finishing touch was the sparkling, utterly-divine engagement ring, which was created by The Wedding Gallery’s Jewellery Atelier.

Our glowing cover girl Pip’s make-up look was created by Reann Meadows for Urban Retreat – find out the details, and how to get the look, on page 139. Love our flowers? The beautiful floral bouquets were from the super-talented Sorcha Herbert of Sorcha Herbert Flowers (sorchaherbertflowers.com); Sorcha is one of Confetti’s all-time favourite bridal flower specialists, and worked with us on our very first front cover back in December 2017.

For this spring shoot, Sorcha created two glorious bouquets to suit a choice of different gowns. The first – which appears on the cover – is a soft and romantic arrangement. Featuring beautiful blush pink roses, this was the ideal choice for a fairytale feel. The second bouquet was more dramatic and glamorous, filled with deep shades of purples and long stems of greenery to add movement and texture.

This lush backdrop was created at The Wedding Gallery by Wildabout, with macarons by Ladurée and champagne from Moët & Chandon

Blossom & bloom

This season’s flowers are all about ultra-pretty twists on traditional arrangements

Chic carnations

These cheery blooms are back in style! Use carnations in a bold tonal mix to create a fashionable bouquet that is impactful and elegant. Annotate with peonies and roses, and a touch of greenery for movement.

Dried stems

A mix of dried flowers and grasses will lend a really cool, boho vibe. We love the idea of using this for table decorations as well as your bouquet – what’s more, the collection really will last a lifetime.

British stems

The new white

Neutral tones are the perfect choice for a cool bouquet. Mix tall delphinium with short stems of Nigella and anemone, then add interest with poppy heads and rough foliage.

An easy way to create a sustainable arrangement is to use flowers grown in the UK. Here are our favourites...

Nithya & Nick

WE LOVE THE UNIQUE DETAILS IN THIS COUPLE’S TWO-DAY WEDDING

PHOTOGRAPHER: ROB TARREN, ROBTARREN.CO.UK

Nithya and Nick met at a work social where they bonded over their shared love of music and film. “It was just before Christmas in 2017 that Nick finally popped the question,” remembers Nithya. “He surprised me on the way to a cousin’s birthday party – planning a detour and proposing in front of the pub where we first met.”

The couple chose to celebrate their wedding with both a Hindu blessing and a civil ceremony at Walcot Hall in Shropshire. “We wanted to go for a subtle 1950s Indian-style wedding, fusing British and Indian cultures together,” explains Nithya. “We looked at so many venues but only a handful would allow us to fully tailor our wedding. Walcot Hall was perfect and helped us build our weekend exactly how we wanted it.”

120 guests attended the wedding and were treated to a fun and vibrant affair. A colour scheme of red, pink and orange fit the theme perfectly, while an Indian-style afternoon tea and banquet left family and friends impressed.

Nithya chose two different looks for the celebration; a floral lehenga for the Hindu

ceremony and a gorgeous metallic style for the civil ceremony. “During a trip to Mumbai, my mum and I decided on one last shopping trip. A silver lehenga, which could also pass for a western-style wedding dress, caught my eye – I felt a huge relief that it was what I had been looking for.”

Nick also impressed with his chosen wedding attire, which included a beautifully embroidered raw-silk red kurta and a custom-made suit from The Drop

Louise & Errol

THIS COUPLE CHOSE A STYLISH HIGHLAND RETREAT FOR THEIR INTIMATE CELEBRATION

PHOTOGRAPHER: FOTOGENIC OF SCOTLAND, FOTOGENICOFSCOTLAND.CO.UK

Following a surprise proposal during a family meal, Louise and Errol decided to tie the knot in September 2019.

“Errol completely surprised me when he got down on one knee,” remembers Louise. “I couldn’t answer at first for crying… but of course I said yes!”

The couple’s autumnal ceremony took place in Scotland at The Lodge on Loch Goil. The Victorian venue was a perfect choice for the pair who fell in love with its tasteful decoration, individual style and high levels of service. “We wanted a destination wedding that was not too big and could accommodate around 50,” explains Louise. “The Lodge really stood out for its character and incredible views – not to mention the awards it had won.”

With such a beautiful venue as their backdrop, Louise and Errol were able to keep their styling simple; incorporating hints of gold and little touches that reflected both of their family roots. “Our wedding cake in particular was amazing,” remembers Louise. “Made by Rosewood Cakes, it was a stylish four-tier design decorated with subtle Scottish thistle and the Jamaican flower.”

When it came to choosing her wedding dress for the occasion, Louise was in good hands. “I wore a dress from my brother Alan Hannah’s collection,” she explains. “I loved that my dress was simple yet elegant. The style is decorated with beautiful

golden leaves, which shimmered as I moved.” Louise finished the look with classic Alan Hannah jewellery and Valentino heels.

Errol similarly looked the part, opting for a navy tweed kilt matched with a contemporary tweed jacket and waistcoat.

Planning tip: Make sure you have good reviews or recommendations for your suppliers. Choose authentic options that really reflect the two of you.

Nada & James

After meeting in school, Nada and James’s paths crossed again while working in Kathmandu.

“James proposed when we were at a resort with views overlooking the Himalayas – he got down on one knee just before sunset,” says Nada.

The pair decided on a winter wedding at Barnsley House for their celebrations. “We fell in love with our venue on first sight,” remember Nada. “It was the perfect size for an intimate wedding. It had a really romantic and cosy atmosphere, and the gardens were magical.”

To fit with their December wedding, Nada and James opted for a rustic wonderland theme, incorporating warm berry tones, brass vases, candlesticks and seasonal flowers. As a personal touch, tables were named after mountains in the Himalayas, and Tibetan prayer flags were hung across the ceiling.

30 guests attended this beautiful wedding and saw Nada walk down the aisle in an elegant, tailor-made dress. Designed with the season in mind, the bespoke gown featured long sleeves, layers and sparkling beaded lace. Velvet Jimmy Choo heels and a dainty Tiffany necklace were the perfect finishing touches.

James also selected an outfit that would complement their theme, deciding on a classic navy suit from Richard James.

Planning tip: Break your planning up into small sections, and create mood boards so your suppliers understand your concept.

It was an instant match for Elleni and Anthony, who met online. “Our first date was amazing – we spent 10 hours together at a lovely London pub, talking and laughing non-stop. By the time we left, we both knew that we’d met our soulmate,” says Elleni.

Following a proposal in their new home, the couple chose to wed at the beautiful Brookfield Manor in the Peak District.

“We always knew that we wanted to marry in the Peak District as it’s where we first said ‘I love you’ to each other,” explains Elleni. “We chose Brookfield Manor as it was totally unique and reflected our love of the great outdoors.”

Set in 130 acres of gardens and countryside, the venue was a firm favourite with the pair, who were also the first to marry in the venue’s outdoor temple. “Our ceremony was definitely one of the most unforgettable parts of our big day,” remembers Elleni. “We loved that our celebrant suggested we include a minute of mindfulness, as it was the perfect way for everyone to take in the peaceful woodland surroundings.”

When it came to styling their wedding, Elleni and Anthony chose a chic and classic theme. A stunning colour combination of ivory and blush pink, with pale green accents, was the perfect choice. Flowers, vintage mirrors and tea lights were all incorporated, while, in the evening, candles and lanterns were lit over the grounds for an ultra-romantic, fairytale feel.

In keeping with their elegant summertime celebration, Elleni chose to walk down the aisle in a gorgeous satin gown from Stella York, paired with Paradox heels and vintage jewellery. Looking equally stylish, Anthony opted for a handsome grey tailcoat suit matched with brown shoes and a floral buttonhole.

Planning tip: If you can, write your own vows. We’ll treasure the memory of hearing ours for the first time and they’re beautiful words for us to live by.

Groom's Edit

This year, dinner suits and tuxedos will be big on the wedding scene, with warm colours, patterns and textures creating a fresh twist

The 2020 wedding season has well and truly started and, when it comes to looks this season, dinner suits, evening wear, tuxedos and dinner jackets are all in vogue. Typically popular for American weddings, black-tie affairs are becoming increasingly fashionable in the UK, too, especially with couples getting married in grand hotels, castles and stately homes.

For grooms looking for a classic formal style, a suit in black or white is ideal, with either a matching or contrasting monochrome lapel. Bow ties are most common with tuxedos, however a straight necktie wouldn’t look completely out of place. Traditionally, a shirt would have French cuffs worn with cufflinks, with studs for your shirt, unless you want to go modern and opt for a covered placket. Accessories should be kept simple for a fancy affair, with either a white or black pocket square and cummerbund. Finally, choose shoes that are black and polished –perfect for a formal event.

However, on the other end of the spectrum, modern grooms need not feel left out, as sumptuous velvet dinner jackets in earthy mustard, deep reds and purples, orange hues and forest greens, combined with lapels in contrasting materials, can create a cool, sophisticated vibe. It’s the ideal look for creative grooms who want all the glamour of a black-tie affair, but wish to add a hint of personal flare. And, when mixed with fun patterned bow-ties, cummerbunds, socks and pocket squares, will allow suave grooms to really make a statement.

CHECKLIST Your planning

If you’re newly-engaged and wondering where to begin, our handy guide will help you kickstart the process

✓ Share the news

Your family and close friends should be told about your engagement as soon as possible – and once they know, don’t miss the opportunity to celebrate! Gather your loved ones, show off your ring and tell them all about the proposal.

Set a budget

Once the news is out, it’s time to discuss your budget. While this can be a difficult conversation, it’s important to set out what you can realistically afford and how much you’re willing to save. If you haven’t already, now is the time to open a savings account to keep your wedding fund separate.

✓ Get organised

Planning a wedding can be a challenge for even the most organised of couples. Whether you opt for spreadsheets, a planning notebook or an online tool, it’s vital that you use something to track your progress.

✓ Decide what you want

Before jumping in and booking your suppliers, it’s time to dream! Think about the type of wedding you would both like and gather inspiration from magazines and social media. Giving yourself plenty of time to figure out what you want will streamline the booking process and ensure your day is extra special and personal to you both.

✓ Pick your party

There are no rules as to who you should pick for your bridal party, so whether you want your sister, your best friend or the entire gang by your side, it’s completely up to you. And once the bridal party is decided, it’s important to think about the full guest list – you won’t need a definitive list at this point, but it’s a good idea to have a rough number as this can influence your budget, venue and the type of wedding you’re able to hold.

✓ Start researching venues

Choosing a venue is one of the most important decisions you’ll make while planning, so it’s one that

shouldn’t be rushed. Once you know how many guests you want to invite, you can start looking at where your day can take place. As you can’t finalise a date until you’ve secured your venue, you’ll need to research and book in for viewings early.

✓ Choose your suppliers

Your suppliers cover everything from photographers and entertainment to caterers and florists. Your venue might provide you with a list of recommended vendors, which can be handy if you’re unsure of your options, but it’s good to do your own research, too. Don’t be afraid to shop around to find those that really align with your wedding vision – just make sure you give enough notice to avoid any disappointment.

✓ Find your dream dress

As soon as you know your wedding date and venue, you can start thinking about the perfect dress! Wedding dress shopping is an exciting part of the process but can be daunting, especially if you're not sure what style of dress you want. Take the time to visit several boutiques to see what's available – and start the search early as it can take six months for your gown to arrive once you’ve placed your order. Don’t forget to factor in fittings, accessory appointments and shopping trips for your bridesmaids, too.

✓ Send out invitations

While save the date cards should be sent out six months before the wedding, traditional invitations can be sent around six to eight weeks before. If you’re planning an overseas celebration, we recommend you give your guests slightly longer to prepare so they can book time off work and save money for the big day.

✓ Take time to relax

Planning a wedding is stressful, but it’s also a magical experience you can share with your partner. Now is a great time to book a short break to escape the planning mayhem – take the time to reconnect, relax and remember all the wonderful reasons you’re getting married.

10 IDEAS FOR AN ECO WEDDING

If you want your wedding day to respect the planet, here are some of the ways in which you can make your special day more sustainable

1

Order friendly florals

Speak to your chosen florist from the start to see how they can accommodate your green ethos. Ask them to use an alternative to foam oasis, discuss what blooms are in season and what can be sourced locally and make a plan for what will happen to your installations after the wedding. Your blooms could be dried, or hardier foliage and florals could be used again –possibly for an upcoming local charity event. Make plans to ensure that all the arrangements, are packed down properly, too, and all wires and ties separated from the arrangements so that flowers can be reused and green waste composted.

3

PICK AN ECO-FRIENDLY VENUE

When viewing venues, grill the site manager to find out what their sustainable practice is. One great resource to use is the Green Building Information Gateway (gbig.org). You can search hotels, buildings and event spaces to find out the company’s environmental certification and energy star rating.

4

Invite online

Paperless Post (paperlesspost.com) o ers a wide range of wedding stationery designs, so you needn’t compromise on style if you opt for an online invitation.

2CHOOSE LOCATION WISELY

Airplane and car emissions are top contributors to environmental damage, so it makes sense to consider how your guests will travel to your wedding. Although a wedding in a remote location will be romantic, it will likely mean lots of car travel. Consider putting on bus transport for your guests, from the service to wedding reception. Or choose a location close to where the majority of guests live, that requires the fewest plane and car journeys.

One of the best ways to avoid paper waste is to send your savethe-dates and official invitations online. You’ll be able to update the website as and when the plans for your special day take shape, as well as avoid hundreds of letters, cards and envelopes being thrown in the bin. However, if you can’t bear the thought of forgoing stationery altogether, make sure any paper and card used is recyclable, and try to send all the information in one go, rather than sending separate save-the-dates.

Peonies, Agapanthus, Waxflowers, Sweet Williams, Roses, Moluccella and Hydrangeas are all in-season in May – making them the perfect flower choice for a spring wedding.

5

Dress the reception with reusable décor

Sadly, most balloons and sky lanterns can be harmful to the environment and local wildlife, depending on how they are disposed of. For a greener wedding, try reusable décor to dress your reception. Consider hiring props such as glassware, bunting and signage or, if you need to buy new, join local bridal groups on social media where you can team up with other brides in your area who are looking for the same thing. Not only will you share the environmental burden and reduce landfill waste, but you’ll help cut costs, too!

6

Enjoy an ethical honeymoon

We’re not suggesting you forgo your once-in-alifetime far-flung holiday destination, but there are ways you can travel more responsibly. Research hotels and resorts that

7 KEEP LEFTOVER FOOD

You often hear of venues throwing away leftover food at the end of the day. Make sure you speak with your caterer before your wedding to discuss a plan. Donating is an obvious choice, but sadly many foodbanks won’t accept food that isn’t new, pre-packaged or canned. However, your caterer may already have a partnership with a local charity. If not, perhaps ask them to package everything up, to hand out to guests at the end of the evening.

practice sustainability. Look for places that recycle, discourage singleuse plastic and are run on solar power. Lastly, don’t forget to register to offset your carbon emissions if you travel to your destination by plane.

8Go second-hand

You needn’t compromise on style or a memorable day out with your mum and bridesmaids by opting for a second-hand dress. Look for ethical bridal boutiques that sell secondhand, lovingly restored wedding dresses. Take Real

Green Dress boutique in Hampshire, for example. The store offers two beautiful ranges: the Pure Collection of original restored vintage gowns and the popular Evolution Collection, a unique range of gowns made from vintage dresses and fabrics.

10

PLAN AN ECO MENU

9Use non-harmful beauty products

For wedding hair and make-up, opt for products made from natural ingredients that are free from harmful chemicals. Not only are they better for the environment, but much healthier for you as well. When looking for a make-up artist, discuss your desire for an eco wedding before you sign any contracts, to ensure they’re on board with your idea.

Extremely topical at the moment, a vegan or vegetarian menu will greatly reduce the environmental impact of the wedding meal. However, if that’s a little too drastic for you, ask your caterer to source your wedding food from organic, local, Fairtrade and ethicallyproduced ingredients where possible. Buying alcohol from local wineries, distilleries and breweries is another great way to reduce your carbon footprint, as well as celebrate and support local businesses.

This eco-friendly dress, from Real Green Dress’s Evolution collection, is made using vintage dresses and fabrics.
Beauty brand Odylique’s main ethos is all about minimising its impact on the environment.

HOW DID YOU FIND YOUR BOUTIQUE?

They were a stockist for a designer I had seen in Australia, and I wanted to find a store locally so I could show my mum the dress I wanted. Turns out I went for a totally different dress! WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO GO WITH THE BOUTIQUE YOU DID?

The team at Wedding Belles of Four Oaks were so lovely and I had the best experience from the moment I arrived. And, of course, I found the dreamiest dress! I visited one other shop – it was a small store with a limited choice of gowns.

HOW DID YOUR BOUTIQUE MAKE YOU FEEL SPECIAL?

On arrival, they welcomed me by name and asked details about my big day. I had fantastic service from the moment I entered the boutique, to the day I collected my dress. They made me feel like I was welcomed into their family. The store is stunning and their dress collection is perfect, with so many styles to suit every individual. I loved that they chose options for me and gave plenty of time to try things on.

WHAT WERE YOUR FAVOURITE PARTS OF THE WEDDING DRESS SHOPPING EXPERIENCE?

Trying on all the dresses and feeling like a real life princess! ANY TOP TIPS?

Don’t ever feel pressured – and once you’ve made your decision, don’t keep looking for others!

THE FACTS

Bride: Michelle Louise Ifans Venue: Reception at Marine Hotel, Aberystwyth Boutique: Wedding World in Shropshire

Dress: Justin Alexander 8835

WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO GO WITH THE BOUTIQUE YOU DID?

I visited three other boutiques – in one store we felt very unwelcome when we accidentally arrived 30 minutes early. That put me off straight away. At another, I tried a dress on that wouldn't go up past my bum, the assistant shrugged and told me I couldn’t try it on. I've always been a little self-conscious, so I wanted the world to swallow me up. Wedding World made me feel special; dress shopping there was exactly how I imagined the experience would be.

HOW DID YOUR BOUTIQUE MAKE YOU FEEL SPECIAL?

Anne, the owner, got to know me and our plans for the wedding before we started to look at dresses. In the changing room there was a slate heart hanging on the mirror. It said “Michelle's Dress”, which was really special. I wasn't able to get one of the dresses on, but Anne said it was no problem. She helped me put it on over my head and attached another panel in the back before I had thought anything more of it. I felt like nothing was an issue.

WHAT WERE YOUR FAVOURITE PARTS OF THE WEDDING DRESS SHOPPING EXPERIENCE?

Taking my dad to show him the dress! We cried. It was also fun trying on so many different styles.

ANY TOP TIPS?

If you’re working out or trying to lose weight, it can change your body shape, so bear that in mind. I lost weight but gained muscle and inches in some places after ordering my dress.

THE FACTS

HOW DID YOU FIND OUT ABOUT YOUR BOUTIQUE?

I saw the boutique on Instagram and loved the dresses on their page – they all looked really glamorous. I had a particular one in mind, but then I tried a different one and loved it even more! I also loved that they stocked Badgley Mischka shoes, which were my dream choice.

WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO GO WITH THE BOUTIQUE YOU DID?

I felt fully confident the shop would deliver and give me first class service throughout. I felt under no pressure at any time, even after being in the store a long time. In one of the other shops I visited, I felt rushed and the surroundings were not as luxurious.

HOW DID YOUR BOUTIQUE MAKE YOU FEEL SPECIAL?

I felt comfortable as soon I went into the

boutique. My advisor, Naydene, was so friendly and welcoming; she put me at ease and asked me all about my wedding venue and details. She took her time to let me try on dresses and made some fantastic suggestions, including raising the neckline on my dress, which she arranged for the designer to do for me – it worked out perfectly.

WHAT WERE YOUR FAVOURITE PARTS OF THE DRESS SHOPPING EXPERIENCE?

I loved trying on different styles, even those I didn’t think I would go for. It’s a nice family and social time, especially as we went for lunch or drinks after every visit!

ANY TOP TIPS?

Have an open mind and try on some different styles. Take a couple of people with you to your appointment, but not too many that it becomes overwhelming.

THE FACTS

Bride: Alice Rose Ward Venue: Godwick Great Barn Boutique: The Bottom Drawer Bridal Dress: Sassi Holford, Amaris HOW DID YOU FIND OUT ABOUT YOUR BOUTIQUE?

I found it via a Google Maps search shortly after getting engaged. A friend suggested we go and look at dresses. As one of the first of my friends to get married, it was very new to all of us and very exciting! WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO GO WITH THE BOUTIQUE YOU DID? In total I visited nine different shops; a range of independent boutiques, discount stores and several high-end designers. Having visited The Bottom Drawer very early on, my advisor Victoria completely understood my desire to visit different places and made it clear that I could return whenever I wanted. Shortly after my visit, I received a

newsletter from the shop detailing a Trunk Show of Sassi Holford's latest collection. Already familiar with the designer, I booked an appointment with my future mother-in-law and the rest is history! HOW DID YOUR BOUTIQUE MAKE YOU FEEL SPECIAL?

It made a huge difference having one-toone time in the boutique without other brides. In other settings, I had found myself comparing myself and my dresses to others and their choices, which is never a good idea. Victoria became a confidant during those fitting appointments, and was exceptionally supportive in those last stressful months of wedding planning. WHAT WERE YOUR FAVOURITE PARTS OF THE EXPERIENCE?

Trying on all the different dresses, from ballgowns to fishtails, different fabrics and seeing how they looked from the hanger to my body. I had full ruffles, coloured dresses, and I even tried on a black dress! It was a magical experience. ANY TOP TIPS?

Go with an open mind and try every style because you will probably end up with the dress you least expected.

W HER E TO WED

Not sure what where you can legally marry in the UK? Here’s a quick look at the options

There’s a lot to think about when planning your wedding – and most importantly, there are legal aspects to consider. While you may be dreaming of a wedding in a beautiful one-of-akind location, in the UK there are some rules concerning where you can actually get married. We’ve detailed what you need to know…

Civil ceremonies

• In England and Wales, you can only legally wed in a place that’s licensed for marriage – this could be a register office or town hall, or at your chosen venue. In Scotland, however, laws are much more relaxed, so you can marry pretty much wherever you like.

• In England you can now get married outdoors, providing your venue has obtained an additional license and the ceremony takes place under a fixed structure such as a gazebo, pavilion or arbour.

• Civil marriages can’t take place in any premises that have religious connections. And while you can, of course, personalise your ceremony with songs and readings, you can’t include any religious references.

• In order for your civil ceremony to take place, you must give at least 28 days’ notice at your local register office.

Religious ceremonies

• Religious wedding ceremonies can take place at a number of consecrated or registered religious buildings, including a church or a chapel.

• Same sex couples can’t get married in an Anglican church, but can marry in other religious buildings if the premises have been registered for it.

• Provided you are both British citizens, you don’t usually have to give notice of your marriage at an Anglican church. But for other religious marriages, you'll need to give notice at least 28 days before.

• If you marry in a church or other religious building, you can still have a reception at a local venue afterwards – just don’t forget to provide transport details for all your guests.

Extra details

Pip’s eyes were softly enhanced with a pale eyeshadow with just a touch of shimmer, the lids given a boost with a delicate brown and then lined in a darker shadow to avoid any harsh lines – the tones in the Code8 Iconoclast Eyeshadow Palette in Lustrous Corduroy, £45, are ideal. A sweep of a delicate peachy blush add a warm glow, and her lips finish the look in a moisture-rich natural blush pink (try Code8 Colour Brilliance Lipstick in Wanderlust, £25).

THE SECRET URBAN WONDERLAND

Deep tones and a focus on florals mean the city has never looked so chic

PHOTOGRAPHY: THE CHAMBERLINS

St Dunstan in the East is as beautiful as it is tranquil, and provided the perfect backdrop to this ultra-cool wedding shoot. This hidden urban oasis offers a little sanctuary from the busy world just outside – the city really has never looked so chic. The shoot was created by talented husband and wife wedding photography duo, Will and Celle Chamberlin.

During the Second World War, the St Dunstan building was severely damaged – there is no longer a roof, nor a full set of walls, and it no longer functions as church. What’s left of the original structure is covered in beautiful vines and climbers –it’s an intensely romantic spot. It’s located in the heart of the City of London, yet it looks and feels very much like it has been reclaimed by nature.

This theme is all about the moody colours and cool laid-back styles, mixed with plenty of uplifting florals (created here by the amazing House of Dandelions), showing that city-based weddings don’t have to be all about expensive hotels or slick backdrops. This shoot highlights modern elegance and romance, made even more impactful by the models – real life couple Claudia and Will. We love the nontraditional finishing touches, such as the brides's black fur coat and the groom's hat, not to mention his fabulous patent shoes.

The flowers really are the stars of the show; there were two different bouquets created, each with a totally different vibe. This one is so rich in colour; it's vampy and bold in all the right ways. The saturated, deep tones of the dark purple calla lilies, black privet berries, violet lisianthus and oak branches (which have been dyed purple), are annotated with bright pops thanks to the white ranunculus. There's plenty of texture, depth and movement, too, which is created by the daucus and fountain grass – it's a truly divine selection that perfectly suits the vibe of St Dunstan in the East.

DETAILS

This page: Claudia looks the epitome of glamour in this image. Her simple dress lets her natural beauty shine through, and we love her black strappy shoes and noir toe nail polish, which suits the theme to perfection. This pale bouquet has huge appeal and elegance thanks to the cool mix of white ranunculus, bleached ruscus, astrantia, fountain grass, rosemary, ivy trails and grevillea foliage. Right: We adore Will's twine-wrapped buttonhole featuring astrantia, lisianthus, fountain grass and bleached ruscus. Claudia's hairpiece is equally alluring, featuing elements such as rosemary and black privet berries – her make-up look complements this perfectly, with beautiful berry lips and a sweep of eyeliner. The couple finish their styles with matching watches from Vitae London, a stunning brand that was founded to support social justice.

Timeless

BEAUTY

Make like a megastar with Adele’s glowing skin and trademark eyeliner flicks

There are a few things you can always count on Adele for; breathtaking heartbreak anthems, a down to earth sense of humour, and radiant, wedding-worthy make-up that looks as at home on the red carpet as it would walking down the aisle.

In the years Adele has been in the spotlight, her beauty look has remained consistent; flawless skin, paired with precision black eyeliner – the only difference is she switches between punchy red lips and a pared back nude, depending on the event. While we’re all for a statement lip on w-day, subtle nude is less high maintenance, leaving you free to kiss your partner and sip champagne without needing constant lipstick touch ups.

Adele wore this polished look to the Grammys in 2017, yet it looks just as current today as it did three years ago –exactly what you want from your wedding make-up. Here's how to achieve her timeless look yourself.

Base

The key to Adele’s flawless look is her base. Prep the skin by removing excess oils with micellar water, before moisturising and applying an illuminating balm to a give a natural glow under foundation. Bobbi Brown’s Extra Illuminating Moisture Balm, £45, is a great choice or, for a more pursefriendly purchase, give Glossier’s Futuredew, £23, a whirl – it delivers a totally shimmer-free shine that exudes radiance from under foundation.

Next up, apply liquid foundation and buff it into the skin for a luminous look – you can't go wrong with cult favourite Estee Lauder Double Wear, £34 or, for a cheaper alternative, Primark’s Double Coverage Matte Foundation is only £5 and is said to be a great dupe.

down the temple, and add a light dusting along the jawline and down the nose, for a minimal, defined look. We’ve heard that Adele’s go-to make-up artist Michael Ashton always reaches for the Smashbox Step-By-Step Contour Kit, £29.95.

Adele’s blusher really brings her look to life, creating not only a flirty flush but also making her look younger, thanks to the illusion of light. Use a large powder brush and apply a powder blusher to the apple of the cheeks, working upwards towards the temple. We like Bare Minerals’s Gen Nude Glow Blusher, £23 – it gives a blurred effect for a soft focus vibe. Avoid blushers with shimmer for a warm, soft look.

Brows

For perfectly defined brows like Adele’s, brush the brow hairs up with a brow gel (we like Glossier’s Boy Brow, £14. The clear one is perfect), this gives fullness. If needed, fill any sparse areas with a soft, flat brush and a matte eyeshadow – you can use brow pencils but this can look harsh, while using eyeshadow keeps brows soft – like all other elements of this look.

Eyes

Eyeliner is the star of the show in this look. Normally we go in with a liquid eyeliner and it’s job done, but for a razor sharp look, a little more effort is required. Start with a gel liner to get the shape (try Illamasqua Mini Gel Liner, £10), then go over it with a liquid eyeliner (L'Oreal Paris Superliner Eyeliner Black Lacquer, £6.49) to intensify the black hue. We recommend applying the gel liner to the back of your hand first to dry it out and make it more workable. Start in the inner corner, and do the flick last. Really stretch out the skin of your eyelid to avoid creases, and be sure to keep the brush as close to your lash line as possible. Go over the liner to build up colour density for a bold look like Adele’s.

For eyeshadow, reach for warm bronze and shimmering muted gold – NARS’s new Afterglow Palette, £46, has everything you need to recreate this look. Finish with mascara – Fenty Beauty’s Full Frontal, £21, is our current go-to.

For the lower lashes, apply mascara to the back of your hand and use a fan brush to work it into the base of the lash line for a perfectly smudged and lived-in look.

Apply concealer next – use a criss-cross motion under the eyes to make it natural, soft and well blended – no tell-tale light under eyes here! We’ve never found a concealer that beats Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Away Concealer, £24. The dabberstyle applicator makes it a dream to blend in and your delicate under eye skin doesn't feel like it’s being dragged when applied. For Adele’s soft, sculptured look, go easy on contour; blend together shades from a contour palette to keep it natural. Apply it under the cheekbones, around the hairline,

Lips

Apply your lipstick directly from the bullet and then rub your lips together. For more definition and fullness, go back in with a lip liner over the top – we like MAC’s Boldly Bare lipliner, £15. For a precision finish, trace the exterior of your lips with a small brush dipped in concealer – this will prevent feathering and keep your lipstick looking sharp from dawn till dusk.

MAC Boldly Bare
Lipliner, £15 Nars Audacious Lipstick in Julie, £26
Charlotte Tilbury K.I.S.S.I.N.G in Penelope Pink, £25

BOHO

Laidback beauty

If you're having a summer wedding, the temptation to go for a boho, relaxed hairstyle is strong – and we can definitely see why. You'll have no need to worry about a coastal breeze dislodging your perfectly tonged tresses and it will require much less product to keep it in place with any rising temperatures.

And the good news is, boho wedding hair can be every bit as glamorous as a sleek 'do, while being a lot less high-maintenance!

If you want an up-do, keep it casual with a low loose chignon; tease tendrils out around the front of your face for a lived-in look that reflects the chilled out atmosphere of your day. Braid elements of your style for a festival feel, but keep the plait tousled rather than fishtail.

If you've been growing your hair for your wedding, embrace your hard earned length with big, brushed out

barrel curls swept to one side – perfect if you're wearing statement earrings or a one-shoulder wedding dress. Brides with fringes, leave your bangs down rather than sweeping them into a qui – fringes add instant cool points. With boho wedding hair, anything goes; embrace your natural texture or style it into beach waves – add a salt spray to help your curls hold and throw caution to the wind. Come rain or shine, you'll feel your confi dent best if you don't need to fret about your locks. While we immediately associate boho bridal hair with rustic barn venues, coastal celebrations and festival style soirees, that’s not to say the casual look doesn't work at city venues and stately homes, too. While grander venues might seem to call for flawless buns and poker straight styles, we see no reason why you can’t embrace a chilled-out look to add a bit of edge to a formal setting.

SLEEK

Perfectly polished

Whether you're getting married in six weeks, six months or six years, preened-to-perfection hair never goes out of style.

Shiny hair perfectly coi ured into a flawless bun is a classic bridal hair look, and for good reason. It allows you to show o the details of your dress, and make the most of your carefully chosen jewellery. For a modern touch, add a statement accessory to bring the look straight into 2020 – gold accents are particularly on-trend at the moment. To add a modern edge to your sleek bun, wear your hair in a centre parting. While this look can be di cult to wear, if you've got the delicate bone structure and the confi dence to rock this style, we say go for it.

For a more relaxed take on the centre parting, wear your hair down but, rather than having your locks cascading over your shoulders in loose waves, allow it to flow straight down your back in a curtain

of shiny, glossy-goodness. Pair with a bold lip and statement eyeshadow for undeniable wedding day glamour. This is a very modern take on sleek wedding hair, so make sure you'll still like your make-up when you're looking back on your photos in years to come – if it's a big departure from your day-to-day look, carefully consider if it's the route you want to take.

Got short hair? Shorter locks can look equally glorious worn in sleek styles. If you've got a bob, why not sidestep Caroline Flack-esque tonged waves in favour of a straightened style? You'll have less worry about your curls dropping out half way through the day and, if you always wear your bob down, you'll feel more like yourself.

For an up-do that's perfect for short hair, channel the '20s with a Great Gatsby inspired look – think flapperstyle pinned curls for a glamorous, vintage wedding vibe.

Destination HEN

Looking for a fun-filled getaway with your closest friends before you say ‘I do’? Whether you’re a beach-loving bride or a worldly gourmand, we reveal our favourite European destinations

BERLIN, GERMANY

For the cultural girl gang, Berlin is a mustvisit location. Sights-wise, the main tourist spots are the 19th century parliament building, the Brandenburg Gate, the Holocaust Memorial, Potsdamer Platz and Checkpoint Charlie. Be sure to take a pit stop for kaffee und kuchen (that’s coffee and cake to you and us) and, with Berlin being a 24-hour city, make the most of the city’s fun nightlife. Plan an evening of food and drinks at Tausend (tausendberlin. com), a speakeasy club that’s well hidden behind a steel door under the Friedrichstrasse S-bahn tracks, and guarded by a discerning doorman.

BORDEAUX, FRANCE

Wine lovers will adore a long weekend visiting the real capital of the wine growing region – Bordeaux. Spend the day in the countryside visiting the many different vineyards on offer and return to the city in the evening for food and nightlife. Make sure you check out the independent and friendly boutique winery, Le Chai au Quai (lechaiauquai.com). Located in the scenic wine region of Saint-Émilion, less than an hour's drive from Bordeaux city centre, it offers both educational and fun private tastings. Just bear in mind, wine season doesn’t start until after March.

Add some culture to your hen do with a trip to lively Berlin
What could be better than a weekend of wine with the gang in Bordeaux?

BUDAPEST, HUNGARY

For hens who want to relax, inject a healthy dose of self-care into your weekend away and visit the spas in Budapest. With over 15 public thermal baths to choose from and, with the most popular Széchenyi Spa costing only 22 euros per person, it’s ideal for costconscious hens. Make sure you factor in a day visiting the hip cafes, designer stores and interesting restaurants in the old Jewish Quarter, and make your way to the Palace Quarter at night – it’s Budapest’s new cool place for food and drinks.

CINQUE TERRE, ITALY

Hens looking to keep active will love a picturesque hiking trip to the Cinque Terre

For adventurous brides, the Cinque Terre will offer a fun and memorable hen party destination. The National Park and designated UNESCO World Heritage Site offers breathtaking hiking paths along the cliffs, with must-have gelato pit stops in the five candy-coloured towns between La Spezia and Levanto on the Gulf of La Spezia. Trains and boats connect the five towns and run frequently. If time is limited, stay in Riomaggiore and walk the shortest and widest of the cliff paths that connects Riomaggiore and Manarola, called, very aptly, Via dell'Amore – the Path of Love.

PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC

Notorious for raucous stag parties, the Czech Republic's capital has so much more to offer than just booze and clubbing. Spend the day exploring the picturesque landscape and fabulous architecture, taking in the city’s historic sites including its 15th century mechanical clock in the Old Town Square. Walk across Charles bridge, take a tour around Prague Castle and spend a relaxing afternoon cruising along the country’s longest river, Vltava. And, for hen groups looking for a wild evening, you can enjoy the city’s notorious nightlife after dark!

PARIS, FRANCE

A quick and easy journey on the Eurostar from London, Paris makes the ideal European hen party destination. But don’t limit yourself to just the city. Only a onehour drive from Gare du Nord station, you could wake up amongst the trees to the sound of the birds singing and the leaves whispering on a Forest Bathing Tree House Retreat (balanceholidays.com). Enjoy the perfect intimate hen party with a fantastic plant-based menu, regular yoga sessions and plenty of time to relax in a private Nordic hot tub.

SAN SEBASTIAN, SPAIN

With a culture almost entirely built around meal time, San Sebastian is a great city for foodies. There are many Michelin starred restaurants in the city and, with a very unique food service called Pintxos, which are small bite-size snacks designed to go with your drinks, you’ll want to eat and drink your way around the city! What’s more, the three beautiful beaches on offer are perfect for some down-time during the day, before you muster up the energy to get back on the Pintxos bar crawl the next evening...

NICE, FRANCE

Thinking of jetting off to sunnier climes with your best friends? Nice, on the French Riviera, is the perfect city break. Only a two-hour flight from London City Airport, and a short 30-minute bus journey from the airport into the city centre, it's a wonderful place for a relaxing weekend of sun, sea and good wine. If you have more than a couple of days, consider taking a day trip to Antibes, where you can meander the traditional cobbled streets, peruse independent boutiques and stop for a spot of lunch.

For something different, stay in a treehouse just north of Paris
Beautiful scenery is matched with incredible food in San Sebastian
If you want a relaxing hen do, Budapest is a great choice with its famous thermal spas
Prague Castle is one of the city's must-see historic sites
With its three-mile pebbled beach, Nice is the perfect mix of city and sea

Beach WEDDINGS

Dreaming of a beautiful wedding on the coast? We’ve found some of the best locations overseas…

France

France is an ultra-romantic choice for a fairytale wedding. While the idea of a celebration here may conjure images of vineyards and châteaus, stylish beachside venues can be found in abundance, too. From unique hotels in Brittany, to swanky beach clubs and resorts in the south, every type of wedding can be catered for. In particular, with its trendy towns, sundrenched beaches and glamorous vibes, the star-studded French Riviera is a must for a seriously sumptuous affair. One of our favourite choices for a wedding here is the stylish Nikki Beach St Tropez, which matches a breathtaking setting with exceptional service.

Greece

With its balmy weather, endless coastline and picturesque islands, Greece should be a top choice if you want an overseas European wedding. Whether you choose the soaring cliffs and turquoise seas of Zante, natural coastal beauty of Crete, or pretty scenery of Santorini, beachside bliss is never far away. For the couples who want all-out glamour, Mykonos will definitely impress, too. Known for its white-washed towns and chic party vibes, this island will deliver if you want a wedding to remember. If you’re after luxury, head to Branco Mykonos – a sparkling new venue which offers unforgettable weddings on the Aegean shore.

Mauritius

If you’re dreaming of a far-flung, tropical location to exchange your vows, it makes sense that Mauritius should be on your list. This Indian Ocean nation is famed for its incredible beauty, turquoise waters and white sandy shores, making it a magical choice for an exotic beachside wedding. With an infinite array of superb resorts, you’ll be spoilt for choice deciding where to wed. Five-star options like Paradise Cove Boutique Hotel and Maradiva Villas Resort & Spa are great for intimacy and romance, while at the luxury Outrigger Mauritius Beach Resort, you can expect a unique Mauritian touch with a cultural Sega show as part of your celebrations.

Spain

We love the idea of a Spanish fiesta for a once-in-a-lifetime beachside wedding – and across Spain’s mainland and islands, you’ll find a host of stunning settings. In southern Spain, you’ll find trendy and sophisticated options such as Marbella Club and Puente Romano, which both host beautiful weddings by the sea. Or, for boho vibes instead, take to the islands for a party like no other. Ibiza is one of our favourite destinations with its five-star resorts and chilled out beach clubs. We recommend checking out the super stylish Experimental Beach Ibiza or Aiyanna Ibiza, which both promise spectacular coastal views.

USA

From the sun-kissed shores of California to the tropical beaches of Florida, the USA definitely impresses with its coastline. If you want a beachside backdrop as you tie the knot, Surf and Sand Resort and Malibu West Beach Club on the west coast are ideal options with their beautiful outdoor ceremony spaces overlooking the sea. But if you want the sand beneath your toes when you say ‘I do’, you’ll find plenty of beautiful venues in Florida and Key West, too. In sunny Florida Keys, Sheraton Suites Key West is a great option for an island wedding, while Boca Beach Club is a sophisticated choice on the mainland.

Our honeymoon

Not sure where to go on honeymoon? From adventure to relaxation, five couples share their experience and reveal what made their trip special

BEST FOR ADVENTURE

NAMES: Lynsey Carratt & James McConville.

WEDDING: Intimate destination wedding in Santorini, followed by an English Back to the Future themed wedding at Herons Park, Lydd, Kent in September 2019.

HONEYMOON: Dubai & Maldives for 12 nights in Sept/Oct 2019.

BUDGET: Approx. £5,000.

LYNSEY SAYS: “I had always wanted to visit the Maldives, but wanted it to be for something special. We decided to incorporate Dubai as I used to live there before meeting James, so we thought this was a good opportunity to visit together, given its close proximity to the Maldives. We used travel agents Tropical Sky to

book the package and I put our itinerary together – a mix of fun and adventure in Dubai, followed by a week of R&R in the Maldives. We crammed a lot into the 12 days! In Dubai, we went to the Aquaventure Waterpark, the F1 track in Abu Dhabi, the new Louvre gallery, afternoon tea at the Buj Khalifia, dinner in the underwater restaurant at Burj Al Arab and Friday brunch at Saffron at the Atlantis resort. In the Maldives, we went paddle boarding, snorkelling and visited a local island. We pre-arranged a candlelit meal under the stars on our last night in Meeru. It looked so beautiful and was very romantic, until it started to blow a gale and pour with rain!”

The Indian Ocean is great for snorkelling
The Maldives is famed for its overwater villas and luxury island resorts
The couple enjoyed dinner at the underwater restaurant at Burj Al Arab

GREAT FOR DISNEY LOVERS

NAMES: Amy & Paul Coltas.

WEDDING: The Mere Golf and Spa resort, Knutsford in November 2017.

HONEYMOON: Orlando, Florida for 14 nights in Nov 2018.

BUDGET: Over £5,000.

AMY SAYS: “We thought we might get bored on a beach holiday as we aren't big watersports fans and don’t enjoy sunbathing all day! With so many fun things to do in Florida, we decided it was the perfect destination. Paul and I planned the holiday together and booked everything ourselves, looking out for as many offers and cashback opportunities as possible. We stayed at luxury hotels that were located close to the

theme parks. We wanted memorable experiences in addition to the park tickets, such as Mickey's Christmas Party (where Magic Kingdom shuts down and only allows a set number of people in). They also have extra details added to all the rides, special parades and free food and drink around the park. We booked Loews Portofino nights with unlimited wine and Italian food at Loews Portofino Bay hotel on the water front with live opera and Italian music. Make sure you book the fast passes at all the parks to avoid queues, it’s well worth the cost! We would absolutely go again and felt that we wouldn't have had so many amazing experiences anywhere else!”

PERFECT FOR BEACH BLISS

NAMES: Alice Caldwell & Chris Brown. WEDDING: Wedding at Merton registry office, followed by a reception at The Jolly Gardeners, Earlsfield, London in November 2019.

HONEYMOON: Mauritius for seven nights in Dec 2019.

BUDGET: Approx. £8,000.

ALICE SAYS: “We wanted somewhere to relax, with guaranteed heat and a direct flight as we only had a week of annual leave to take. We had a short five-month engagement and had already been on two adventurous holidays earlier in the year. We researched the best areas and hotels ourselves, and then booked Lux Le Morne resort via Trailfinders as we organised our wedding gift list with the travel company.

We decided to go for an all-inclusive honeymoon, as we knew we would be really tired and all we wanted was to relax and hang out together somewhere nice and warm. We kept our activities to a minimum, with massages at the resort spa and diving at the local centre – which was amazing as the water is crystal clear in Mauritius. It was so lovely to go on honeymoon straight away as the adrenaline of the day leaves you exhausted (which no one really mentions). The hotel didn’t feel too ‘all-inclusive’ as it was a fairly small resort, and the food was brilliant. I would definitely go back to Mauritius, it’s a beautiful island with lots to do. If we went again, we would get a car and explore the island more.”

A theme park honeymoon is a great alternative to a beach break
The pair booked fast passes to avoid any long queues
Alice & Chris enjoyed all-inclusive luxury for their special escape
Mauritius is the perfect place for sun, sea and sand

IDEAL FOR A RANGE OF ACTIVITIES

NAMES: Rachel & Ben O'Connor.

WEDDING: Ceremony at Stoke Newington Town Hall, followed by a reception at the Londesborough pub in November 2018.

HONEYMOON: St Lucia in December 2018.

BUDGET: Approx. £2,000.

RACHEL SAYS: “We initially planned to go to Scotland on a walking holiday with our dog, but realised that in December it would be dark and cold most of the time! Luckily, my mum owns a villa in St Lucia, so we changed our minds and headed to warmer climates. We wanted to relax,

enjoy sunshine and good food and just spend every second together – that was the best bit about the week! We spent most of the time lounging on the beach, but we still hired a car and hiked Pigeon Point, went to Hotel Chocolat and visited local restaurants. We also had a couple's massage at the hotel, something we wouldn't normally do. If we could do it again, we would have stayed longer. I think anyone looking to book their honeymoon needs to consider what they really want from the trip, rather than what they think a honeymoon should look and feel like.”

FANTASTIC FOR RELAXATION

NAMES: Jenni & Alex Paske.

WEDDING: Church service followed by reception at Priory Cottages, Yorkshire in July 2018.

HONEYMOON: Punta Cana, Dominican Republic for seven nights in March 2019.

BUDGET: £3,500.

JENNI SAYS: “We really wanted a relaxing retreat and somewhere that would definitely be hot in March! We didn’t mind where we went, but the all-inclusive package we booked via British Airways was luxurious and worked out good value for money. We also flew BA Premium Economy, which made it a bit more special. We stayed at Excellence El Carmen where all the rooms have their own suite or pool, which was amazing to have such

privacy. During the day, we relaxed in the sun by the pool, went to the gym a few times and also went kayaking. In the evenings, we got dressed up and ate at one of the many resort restaurants, played pool, went to different bars and watched some of the entertainment. If we’re completely honest, whilst we enjoyed the relaxing holiday, I think we should have chosen somewhere with a little more to offer than just eating and drinking. At the end of the week, I felt rather stodgy. Planning a honeymoon is personal. I would advise other couples do exactly what they feel like; whether that’s adventure or relaxing! But, if you’re after a super relaxing holiday, then this resort is definitely for you!”

A great way to enjoy the island is by boat
For a mix of striking mountains and sandy beaches, St Lucia is perfect
The Dominican Republic is perfect for some winter sun
Jenni & Alex planned a week relaxing in the Caribbean
There are plenty of hiking opportunities for adventurous couples

We take a look at the places that should be on your honeymoon radar this year…

Colombia

Colombia might once have been notorious for its past - but today, this South American gem is high on the trailblazer list, offering its visitors a heady mix of colourful character, rich culture and vibrant beachside vibes. Combining the very best Caribbean scenery with dramatic mountain ranges and lush jungles, it’s one that we can bet will make everyone on your Instagram jealous. For somewhere to stay, opt for a property in magical Cartagena. This lively colonial city is a real jewel on the coastline; think picture-perfect beaches, colourful architecture and animated nightlife. Luxury boutique hotels are ample here, making it a top choice for a romantic escape –we particularly love Hotel Casa San Agustin and Hotel LM for both their comfort and charm.

Namibia

As one of Africa’s most enticing destinations, Namibia promises to be a hit with newlyweds thanks to its spectacular landscapes, cosy lodges and bucket list credentials. If you want to get off the beaten track, it’s also the perfect location for a selfdrive adventure, letting you create your own rules on your honeymoon.

Japan

Whether you spend your time marvelling the impressive sand dunes or seeking out wildlife, you can expect an exhilarating journey. And when it comes to resting your head?

Consider andBeyond’s Sossusvlei Desert Lodge, which is a haven for stargazing and seclusion.

Ahead of the 2020 Olympics, Japan has put itself at the top of everyone’s travel list. If you combine your trip with the buzz of this year’s biggest event, or choose to visit at another time, you’ll be impressed with everything this country has to offer. With bright city lights, cultural gems and romantic scenery in abundance, this is a destination that’s sure to match your idea of heaven. Want ultimate indulgence? We recommend a stay with Aman– the luxury hotel group has an exclusive selection of five-star resorts across the country.

Croatia

Having established itself on the bucket list trail, sun-soaked Croatia is a must for a European honeymoon this year. As a trove of cultural delights, glittering coastal hotspots and breathtaking national parks, it’s a great destination if you want plenty of choice. For city beauty at its best, stay in Split, before heading to Brač island for pure beachside bliss. Here, you’ll find plenty of luxury villas and hotels that are perfect for newlyweds – in particular, the award-winning Hotel Lemongarden is a first-class option for exceptional service and distinctive charm.

Morocco

From ancient cities to vast sweeping deserts, Morocco has it all – and the best part is that this exotic country is only a four-hour flight from London. If you fl y in to Marrakech you’ll find yourself immersed in colourful souks, gazing at impressive palaces and staying in luxurious riads. But if you have an extended stay, why not consider a visit to the blue city of Chefchaouen, or take a trip to the coast for surf and yoga in Thagazout? Or, for the ultimate romantic experience, head into the wilderness and sleep under the stars in the midst of the Sahara desert.

Paradise IN WAITING

Looking for a dazzling yet affordable overseas location to tie-the -knot? We discover why Jamaica ticks all the right boxes

The promise of sunshine lures many couples overseas to say their ‘I dos’, but with a plethora of destinations available, deciding where to get married abroad can be an overwhelming task. Offering something for every bride and groom, Jamaica is ranked the number one Caribbean island by TripAdvisor and was named the Best Wedding Destination of 2019 by TravAlliance Media – and there’s a reason…

Both aspirational and surprisingly affordable, Jamaica glistens in the Caribbean Sea. Made colourful by its laid-back locals, culinary gems, and 600 miles of coastline, this majestic island boasts year-round rays and endless cultural opportunities, allowing those that marry here to combine a dream wedding with the honeymoon of a lifetime.

INSTAGRAM-WORTHY WEDDINGS

Sandals has just been named the World’s Leading AllInclusive Company for the 24th consecutive year and its flagship resort in Montego Bay is home to the island’s largest exclusive white sand beach. Founded in 1981, this pocket of paradise has an incredible backdrop for your ceremony, whether you’re looking to say your vows in a traditional chapel or barefoot on the beach.

Blending sun and sea with 5-star hospitality, Sandals Montego Bay is seducing couples wanting romance and adventure for their big days – and thanks to its

customer-centric approach, no two weddings here are the same. In fact, the Sandals Customisable Weddings ethos means your day will be entirely tailored to your tastes and budget.

Having replaced packages with wedding planners, the resort’s dedicated specialists are there to help you make your ceremony as low-key or as lavish as you wish. There are 10 different inspirations to choose from, ranging from Island Chic and Sand & Sea, to Gardens and Nature. The wedding team will also take care of everything from your table décor to those allimportant marriage licenses, easing the stresses associated with marrying abroad.

When it comes to ceremony locations, there are plenty of options. Choose to tie-the-knot in the stunning Over-The-Water Serenity Wedding Chapel, which protrudes out over the ocean and benefits from an awe-inspiring glass floor, or instead, go it alone under a tree canopy in the tropical garden. You can even opt for the romance of the Oceanfront Gazebo, or gather on the sand with just a couple of your closest friends.

As for the resort itself, there are 27 room types, meaning there’s something to suit all price points. From a swim-up Love Nest suite, complete with a personal on-call butler, to a Caribbean Deluxe room with a fully-stocked minibar and four-poster bed, you’ll only ever be a few steps from the sea – and the nearest Pina Colada!

What’s even better, if you stay at Sandals Montego

Bay for a minimum of three nights, you’ll be eligible for a complimentary wedding and the longer you stay, the more you’ll gain for your big day. Plus, with access to 20 restaurants across two world-class Sandals resorts, countless bars, and the renowned Red Lane Spa, there are plenty of opportunities to kick back before, and after, your nuptials.

HONEYMOON GOALS

Perhaps the best part about getting married abroad is that your honeymoon starts as soon as the ceremony finishes! Choosing to get hitched in Jamaica not only guarantees you a sun-filled affair, but the chance to enjoy all the island has to offer in the days that follow. By staying in Montego Bay, you’ll only ever be a few hours away from the rainforests and waterfalls of Ocho Rios, or the walking trails and sunset-watching spots of the Blue Mountains.

No matter what time of year you set the date, this tropical oasis has an event to entertain you. Savour rum and reggae in bucket loads during Bob Marley Week every February, or marry in July to enjoy the late-night beach parties of Reggae Sumfest. If your wedding is taking place in March or April, then the Bacchanal Carnival is a must. Picture colourful costumes, traditional dancing, and endless street food at this Rio-inspired parade – an event you’re unlikely to forget!

If you’re more into R&R, soak up the flavours of the island with a rum experience at the world-renowned Appleton Estate or hit one of the island’s luxury golf courses. If you’re drawn to the water, then don’t forget your swimwear, because Jamaica boasts fantastic

snorkelling and diving opportunities around its seemingly endless shore. Plus, Sandals Montego Bay also offers exciting excursions with Island Routes Adventure Tours, so you can spend your post-wedding days however you see fit.

WHEN TO VISIT

No matter when you decide to start your happily ever after, Jamaica is likely to deliver sunshine. Thanks to its tropical climate, the island benefits from yearround rays, with temperatures fluctuating between 22°C and 31°C. High season runs from December to April, offering booming days and little chance of rain, while the rest of the year sees glorious sunshine with the odd (but brief) shower. Even during hurricane season, from June to November, there’ll be plenty of chances for topping up your tan!

GETTING THERE

Virgin Atlantic flies direct from London Gatwick to Sangster International Airport three times a week during high season. Flights start from £536 per person and take approximately 10 hours. Seven nights at Sandals Montego Bay, staying in a Caribbean Deluxe room, costs around £1,929 per person (for travel between 5 September and 8 December 2020). Prices include all-inclusive accommodation, return flights with Virgin Atlantic, airport transfers, and a simply elegant wedding. Learn more at sandals.co.uk.

Sally & John

This couple chose Jamaica for their ultra-romantic destination wedding & honeymoon

brilliant weddings they offered. We knew that was what we wanted.”

Sally and John were introduced by mutual friends back in 2011 and quickly discovered that they had plenty in common. Then in February 2017, while holidaying in Prague to celebrate Sally’s birthday, John proposed to her during a romantic evening meal. “He asked me if I would continue our journey through life together,” she remembers. “I said yes and we were both brought to tears. We were so happy!”

Since Sally and John had both been married before, they decided upon a private destination wedding and instantly knew that a romantic beach setting would be perfect. “We just wanted to please ourselves,” Sally explains. “We’d stayed at Sandals’s resorts before and had seen the

The loved-up duo decided to tie the knot in October 2017 at Sandals Ochi Beach Resort, Jamaica. “We chose the 27th, as it would have been my beloved Dad's birthday,” says Sally. “We liked the look of Sandals Ochi Beach Resort, because of the gorgeous garden settings it offered.” The luxurious all-inclusive resort is an oasis by the sea, encompassing over 100 acres of tropical grounds, it blends luxurious suites with a stunning white-sand beach.

While planning a wedding abroad can be tricky, the pair found the experience effortlessly simple and were assisted the whole way by a team of experts. “We had an initial telephone conversation with a Sandals Wedding Co-ordinator and made the basic arrangements,” Sally explains. “Once we arrived at the resort, we met with the weddings team to arrange our flowers, cake and the music we wanted for the ceremony and our first dance.”

Every detail was organised for them and the couple’s personal Wedding Co-ordination was also a witness at their ceremony, since the pair had travelled alone. “As soon as we arrived, we were treated like VIPs and we even arranged to have our own butler, who waited on

us hand and foot. We felt like royalty!”

For their nuptials, the couple chose the resort’s quiet wedding gazebo, located in the heart of its Jamaican garden. Sally opted for a beautifully embellished shortsleeved gown from JD Williams – the perfect choice for a tropical setting – while John selected a deep blue three-piece suit from Paul Smith. Pretty orchid flowers tied the two looks together and added a splash of Caribbean colour to the occasion. “I even had my hair done in the resort’s wedding salon. It was amazing! I drank champagne and was thoroughly pampered.”

When it came to the main event, it wasn’t long before Sally became swept away by John’s romantic nature. “He’d secretly organised for Take That’s ‘Greatest Day’ to be playing while I walked towards him at the gazebo,” says Sally. “I instantly began to cry, because although it’s a little cheesy, the words are so meaningful.”

For this couple the whole day was truly magical, from waking up in paradise, to their private oceanfront ceremony, their wedding was just how they’d envisioned it. “The ceremony was very memorable because we’d written our own vows and it was so emotional. Having the photos taken was really special, too. We were driven around in a decorated golf buggy to all the scenic areas of the resort – it was great fun!”

Afterwards, the couple shared presents with one another, to commemorate their magical day, and enjoyed a romantic evening meal. When they returned to their suite, they found their bed had been decorated

with confetti and petals, which spelt out the word 'congrat ulations'. “It really was the happiest day of our lives. We didn't want it to end.”

Plus, being at an all-inclusive resort meant the pair didn’t need to think about a thing during their stay. “If you bring guests you won’t need to worry about them, because everything is catered for. At Sandals, it’s more about the bride and groom having a wonderful experience, which is what counts at the end of the day!” The couple followed up their dream wedding with a week-long honeymoon at Sandals Negril Beach Resort & Spa, located on the island’s dazzling western coast. “It was truly a fairytale experience and we left with such amazing memories.”

When it comes to tips for other couples considering marrying in Jamaica, Sally has some words of advice: “Research all the resorts because each one is different. Consider the time of year you want to marry and look at locations for your ceremony, photographs and meal.” For Sally and John, it felt very romantic to be out on the beach somewhere special and opting for Sandals made for a hassle-free route to their dream wedding abroad.

Where to goINSTEAD

Want to avoid the crowds and have a unique honeymoon break?

We take a look at the alternative destinations that should be on your list…

Oman instead of UAE

Glitzy Dubai and Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates grant honeymooners an exotic Arabian escape. And while these incredible locations are perfectly fitting of a luxurious holiday, the lesser-visited neighbouring country of Oman is a fantastic alternative for a blissful oasis. While the UAE is much more modern, Oman delivers history, tradition and wilderness – ideal if you’re after a real desert adventure. Why not start your trip in the elegant capital of Muscat, where shopping malls are matched with silk bazaars, souks and cultural sites like the Grand Mosque. Then for beachside bliss, head to one of the country’s many luxurious coastal hotels, or choose a scenic experience with a visit inland instead. Here, you’ll find plenty of opportunities for desert glamping and mountain hiking. If the remote landscape of the Middle East is what you’re dreaming of, we suggest booking into Alila Jabal Akhdar to really soak up the views. This five-star resort, nestled in the Al Hajar mountain range, is a unique and utterly romantic choice.

Zanzibar instead of Maldives

If you’re currently planning your honeymoon, you’ve probably considered heading to the Maldives. Renowned for being one of the most desirable destinations on earth, the Maldives is synonymous with romance. But it’s not the only place that’s fitting of a tropical island hideaway. One under-the-radar option is the white sand archipelago of Zanzibar. Described as the Indian Ocean’s best-kept secret, this African island region boasts postcard-perfect views and some of the best beaches on the continent. Not only is it the ideal place for some serious relaxation, but for those keen to do more than sitting on a lounger, there are plenty of things to see and do as well. Whether you hit the water, wander the winding streets of Stone Town, take in the fragrant spice markets or soak up the local culture, Zanzibar assures a one-of-a-kind retreat. As an emerging honeymoon destination, you won’t be disappointed by its choice of luxurious resorts either. All-inclusive options, such as Meliá Zanzibar, offer romantic rooms and private villas that will award you the honeymoon haven you deserve after months of wedding planning.

Langkawi instead of Koh Samui

If your idea of heaven is a tropical getaway with sun, sand and cocktails in hand, then Thailand seems an obvious choice. But for many, the thought of crowded backpacker parties takes away the image of honeymoon bliss. While there are lesser-known islands in Thailand which promise an idyllic beach break, why not consider a flight to Malaysia’s Langkawi instead? Ticking all the same boxes as Thailand’s Koh Samui, Langkawi boasts turquoise waters, breathtaking coastal views and romantic beachfront resorts – all without the horde of gap year visitors. This beautiful island on the west coast delivers all the essentials for a loved-up escape. During the day, you can explore colourful underwater worlds, sail around neighbouring islands, and travel on the famous cable car. Then, when the day draws to a close, you’ll love retreating to a luxury resort where you can take in some glorious sunset views. If you’re not sure where to stay, consider the stylish Four Seasons and you’ll enjoy a private white sand beach, lush tropical gardens and authentic Malaysian hospitality.

Puerto Vallarta instead of Cancun

Cancun has become a favourite honeymoon location for good reason – the beaches are beautiful, luxury resorts are found in abundance and the nightlife is one-of-a-kind. And while the vibrant scene of Mexico’s Caribbean Coast ticks the right boxes for many couples, for those seeking a more laid-back and authentic Mexican experience, a visit to the country’s Pacific Coast is a must. Still offering paradise beaches, lively celebrations and plenty to see and do, Puerto Vallarta and neighbouring Riviera Nayarit, also promise a more secluded and exclusive hideaway. Stretching across the sparkling Banderas Bay and fringed by palm-covered mountains, this is a colourful coastal destination where couples can enjoy everything from boat trips and hiking to sumptuous spa experiences. As an ideal spot for a luxurious loved-up break, you’ll even find the aptly named Romantic Zone here. Renowned for its hip and lively atmosphere, stylish restaurants, boutique hotels and incredible sunsets, this is definitely an area not to miss. If we have you convinced, we recommend staying at the fivestar Hotel Mousai for ultimate newlywed bliss.

Toronto instead of New York

With its glittering city lights, super cool restaurants and swanky clubs, it’s easy to see why New York is a honeymoon hit. But across the border in Canada, Toronto is a diverse and cosmopolitan city that’s just as deserving. This sprawling city is a hotbed of cultural gems, with trendy neighbourhoods that offer everything from independent coffee shops and boutique hotels to quirky warehouse galleries, design houses and artisanal foodie hangouts. The nightlife is impressive too; promising newlyweds plenty of opportunities to celebrate in the eclectic clubs and speakeasy bars dotted across the city. And if there’s one thing that sets this city apart? It’s the island getaways and natural beauty that it can offer to its visitors. Whether you venture to the famous Niagara Falls or take a ferry ride to Toronto Islands for its beaches, parkland and skyline views, there’s plenty on offer if city life gets a bit too much. When it’s time to rest your head, we love a stay at The Hazelton Hotel – a chic and glamorous property situated in Toronto’s stylish Yorkville.

Honeymoons on ice

What could be more romantic than cosying up and enjoying some majestic icy vistas? Here are some of our favourite chilly-moons

Snowy destinations, such as Lake Lousie in Canada, are a beautiful honeymoon alternative

Hot Springs in Iceland

You can’t deny that Iceland is a true geothermal paradise; its amazing natural hot springs and pools are found all over the country. While the misty, bright blue waters of the iconic Blue Lagoon are worldfamous, there are hot springs all over the country that are worth exploring. Reykjadalur Steam Valley is about 30 minutes outside of Reykjavik; you can discover its quiet springs at the end of a romantic hike. The whole landscape is quiet, serene and utterly blissful. Once you arrive at the Varmá river, pick a spot and climb in; there are wooden platforms built all around, so step in and enjoy the views of rocks and rolling hills. Enhance your visit with a stay at the Frost and Fire hotel (info@ frostandfire.is), a gorgeous boutique residence nestled in the foothills.

Alpine Yoga Retreat

If your idea of paradise is getting zen, then you’ll find the Ayurveda Resort Sonnhof (sonnhof-ayurveda.at) nothing short of an Alpine dream. Set in the stunning peaks of Tyrol, which sidles up to Bavaria over the border in Germany, the views from this hotel are truly breathtaking. You’ll feel the stress slide away the minute you arrive. This is one of Europe’s foremost centres for Ayurvedic medicine, therapy and detox, with a daily programme of activities, from yoga and qigong to meditation and breathwork. And why not immerse yourself in all that the spa has on offer – treatments include everything from immune system-boosting Himalayan salt scrubs to hot oil massages. The hotel also boasts a beautiful Japanese-inspired garden where you can soak up the sublime atmosphere.

Norway’s Northern Lights

What better way to spend your romantic holiday than gazing at the magnificent Aurora Borealis in Norway? Make the experience even more magical and stay at the Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel (sorrisniva.no) – it’s the largest ice hotel in Europe, and the northernmost in the world. It’s impressively built up from scratch every year, meaning each year the hotel offers visitors a totally unique experience. As well as taking in the magical sights, Sorrisniva has a range of activities to enjoy, such as snowmobile safaris on the Finnmark plateau, accommodation in Sami tents and lodges, ice fishing and reindeer sleigh rides. Just as an aside, if you want to do something to really wow… you can even get married at the hotel’s intimate ice chapel.

Lake Louise in Canada

If you’re looking for spectacular views and a snowy paradise, then Lake Louise will not disappoint. Part of Alberta's Banff National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it’s world famous for its turquoise lakes, the Victoria Glacier, soaring mountain backdrop, and incredible hiking options, as well as a wealth of other activities should you so desire. You can embark on anything from sleigh rides to dog sledding, and it is famous for skiing and snowboarding, too – this is a spot for true adventurers. Enrich your visit by staying at the iconic Fairmont Chateau (fairmont.com) – the views from the hotel across the frozen lake are hard to beat. Dating back to 1882, the hotel is rich in history and is packed with elegance and old-school luxury. There’s a spa on site, first-class dining options and the concierge team can arrange your icy activities.

A Polar Adventure

For something totally different, the Arctic Wilderness trip with Explore (explore.co.uk) will take you to see the spectacular fjords of Spitsbergen. You’ll discover Spitsbergen’s national parks, which form the largest untouched wildernesses in Europe, and sail among immense icebergs. The excursion will take you well above the 80th parallel and place you closer than 600 nautical miles from the Geographical North Pole. Visit the eastern part of Svalbard, which is mainly divided into two large nature reserves, and combined they represent one of the largest and mainly untouched wildernesses in Europe. Traversing the large fjord east of Spitsbergen will give you spectacular views of the island's east coast, with hundreds of glaciers and mountains. And, if you’re lucky, you’ll meet some of Svalbard's marine mammals like seals and walruses and, wherever there is ice, there is a great chance of spotting polar bears! This 10-day polar journey on board the M/S Spitsbergen is a once-in-a-lifetime experience – plus the ship’s cabins are comfortable and spacious, and it also has a jacuzzi and fitness suite.

Italy on ice

Skiing is the obvious honeymoon of choice for snow loving couples, and one of the best places to do this is in the Italian Dolomites; a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The destination covers over 130km of slopes, is supported by 53 lifts and is home to one of the best ski circuits in the world – the Sellaronda. Arguably the most romantic place to stay is the Alta Badia region; its lush nature, centuries old culture and delicious cuisine make this a truly alluring honeymoon spot.

Where to stay

Activities

Spend your days swishing down the pistes and taking leisurely pit stops to refuel or to simply enjoy the snow. The luxurious destination boasts some of the finest cuisine in the Alps – there’s a wealth of highly acclaimed restaurants, including two with Michelin stars. Wake up early and enjoy some dawn skiing as the sun rises; hitting the slopes before the world wakes up and witnessing the apenglow, known locally as enrosadira – the phenomenon by which most of the peaks in the Dolomites, at dawn and dusk, are illuminated in beautiful shades from pink to orange and magenta.

The Sellaronda is a must-ski circuit, and really showcases the beauty of this mountain range. Taking you across four Dolomite passes; The Campolongo Pass, the Pordoi Pass, the Sella Pass and the Gardena Pass, the Sellaronda offers over 30kms of uninterrupted, intermediate level skiing. It’s a full day out, so be sure to leave by 10am. To ensure you make the connecting lifts home, allow six hours – to include some well earnt breaks.

There are six villages housed in the Alta Badia region; Corvara, Colfosco, San Cassiano, Badia, La Villa and La Val. The pretty village of San Cassiano is an idyllic spot, and boasts the Rosa Alpine – a favourite with celebrity guests including George Clooney and Prince Albert of Monaco.

Rosa Alpine is a luxury-packed destination, from its gorgeous contemporary interiors to its plentiful amenities – what better way to relax after a day hitting the slopes then a few hours in the new wellness wing? It features eight treatment rooms, two pools, a yoga studio, gym and a variety of saunas, including a Bio sauna with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the snow covered fir trees. For more to do, head to the hotel’s cinema or billiard room, or over to the popular piano bar for a refreshing Hugo – a local cocktail consisting of elderflower cordial, prosecco and fresh mint and lime.

If you want to experience truly fine dining, then you don't need to travel far – the hotel’s own Restaurant St. Hubertus is divine. Boasting three Michelin stars, (which the Michelin Guide describes as "exceptional cuisine that is worth a special journey"), chef Norbet Niederkofler’s concept of ‘Cook the Mountain’, delivers mouth-watering cuisine centred around local mountain produce, seasonality and sustainability.

AQHow should I split my budget?

INSIDE

Your venue, food and drinks are likely to be where most of your money is spent. Before putting together your definitive budget, sit down with your partner and discuss how you envision the day going, and what is most important. Do you want as many guests as possible? Then you’ll have to cut back on some extras, like a free bar. Do you want the décor to be outstanding? Then find a planner that specialises in creative staging. Do you love music? Put your cash into a fantastic live band.

KNOWLEDGE

Top tips and advice to help you have a hassle-free wedding

First Looks

“My favourite pictures from our wedding are, without a doubt, the first look photos. Our photographer captured such an intimate moment – it was just us, and it was so special. I would advise any couple to do a first look – it’s not just the snaps that make it so wonderful, it’s just a perfect, sweet moment to share with your partner before the rest of the celebrations. It also gave us more time after the ceremony to have photographs with our guests."

AQWhoshould we have on our guest list?

There is no one-size-fits -all answer to this question! You should only invite the people you enjoy sharing your life with. Think very carefully about your guest list – you don’t have to invite anyone out of obligation if you don’t want

to (and that includes extended family). It’s a good idea to review your list several times after you think it's final. There's a golden rule: if you send someone a save the date, the guest has to be invited to the wedding. If you're on the fence about anyone, forget the save the date and give them an invitation later on.

Dresshotshopping list!

● Do some preappointment research and check out a boutique's collections, service and reviews before you visit.

● Don’t forget wedding dress shops carry many stunning gowns from as little as £399. If you don't want to break the bank on a dress, there are many bargains and sample sales to be found at local boutiques.

● Do consider visiting boutiques during the week. It’s usually calmer and more private.

● Don’t risk going dress blind by booking four or more appointments! Start with one or two shops and book more afterwards if you need to.

● Do keep an open mind! Sometimes it’s the one you least like on the hanger, or sometimes you will fall in love with a style that’s entirely di erent to your original ideas.
