I got married seven years ago…and at the time I didn’t have a clue what I was doing. If it wasn’t for my savvy bridesmaids, it may well have been a disaster. Thankfully two of my best girls were already married and they knew exactly what I needed to do (while the other organised not one, but two wonderful hen parties...more about that another time). They told me what their favourite magazines were, what websites to look at and came along with me to the National Wedding Show (to drink fizz and eat cake, but also to get me on the right track). When my big day came around, everything was just as I had wanted… thanks to my helpers. What I had needed from the start was some inspiration and friendly advice, as well as someone to tell me just what goes into organising a wedding. I hope that is just what this magazine will do for you, it’s the reason we launched this very special title. We’ve got the latest bridal fashions, some of the most stunning venues in the UK and overseas, as well as all the details you need to make your day extra special. You’ll also get the chance to look into the weddings of four very special couples, and get to see exactly how they got their dream – each one is totally different. That’s the beauty of it – it’s your day…you can do whatever you want. Just remember, it’s not a wedding without Confetti!

New York was the setting for a romantic proposal on their 10th anniversary, starting Michelle and Cauldrick’s wedding story.
“He really surprised me by putting a picture of us up on the big screen in Times Square, saying: Will you marry me?” remembers Michelle.
The pair married in September 2017, and decided on a destination wedding at ClubHotel Riu Ocho Rios in Jamaica. With a ceremony and reception on the beach, the couple opted for a bright, fun and tropical theme, carefully coordinated using pink, orange and yellow. “To help tie it together we chose colourful confetti, personalised fans and bright prints as well as frames and bows as decorations,” explains Michelle. “We also asked my friend Amanda Farren at So Betty to do all our wedding stationery and she did a really fantastic job.”

“Rachel works in hospitality so she collected corks at work to make various items such as pyramid centre pieces for the tables and a ‘H & R’ for the present table,” explains Heather. “We got lots of ideas from Pinterest too and to tie it all together we settled with an aubergine colour scheme for the six bridesmaid dresses and the men’s cravats.”
For the brides’ wedding looks, Heather and Rachel spent many days separately searching boutiques in Edinburgh, Newcastle and St Andrews. Rachel chose a beautiful Morilee gown from Emma Roy in Edinburgh, while Heather’s favourite choice was a Christina Wu design bought from Enchanted in St Andrews. “Neither of us had seen each other’s dresses until the day but we were so surprised how well they complemented each other and how similar they were,” says Rachel. “We knew what type of dress we were having looked online and in magazines, but when know it’s the one!”

Hail the colour of the year
With Ultra Violet being Pantone Colour of the Year, we are seeing purple tones pop up everywhere. Want to get in on the trend? Rustic decorations with floral tones in this hue are pretty and hip… and you can even get crafty and create something yourself. For this look, use a mix of wine carafes, jars and vases to create an eclectic mix. Cover the outside of the vessel with stems of heather or similar hardy flowers, in purples and white. Secure with brown parcel string. Fill the glass with sprigs of pine that peek out at the top and finish with an ice white candle and a fresh or dried rose.

The bride and groom’s laid back attire is personality shines through at every angle. The hue of the groom's deep red trousers is picked up in the blooms both in the bouquet, on the cake and on the table… not to mention the sprinkle on the cake pops. And who knew black macaroons could look so appealing? The whole look is simply divine.

These pretty flowers are a dream. Soft green foliage and the pretty, light-coloured blooms offer a heavenly contrast against the bolder shades of the venue and decor.
Bottom left: Simplicity can speak volumes. The bride's elegant dress and simple hairstyle is finished with an almost 20s style headband –there's no need for extra glitz.
Alice : “How long is forever?"
White Rabbit : “Sometimes, just one second."
This image: The bride's bouquet is glorious in its whimisical nature...it's pretty and wild in form; the perfect contrast to the slim lines of her dress. The mixture of flowers and foliage help with the unstructured look, all finished with long cream ribbon which mimics the movement of the stems. For a similar look, mix bold burgundy garden roses and rununculus in the same colour, together with pink versions of the latter, and bush-toned alstro emeria, soft purple lavender scabiosa and sweetpeas. Add in some white astilbe and pieris japonica cupido to enhance the soft movement. And don't forget the greenery; mix large-leaf variegated ivy with alchemilla mollis. Left: Tea party chic. The table setting mixes vintage-style plates, glassware (deep blue to match the groom's attire) and napkins, with an array of flowing blooms. Juicy pears act as a novel place holder...perfect if guests get peckish. Far too polished for the Mad Hatter.

STUCK FOR HOW TO WEAR YOUR HAIR ON YOUR BIG DAY? HERE’S OUR GUIDE TO THE TOP STYLES THIS WEDDING SEASON, NO MATTER WHAT KIND OF BRIDE YOU ARE

roses….but you can easily mix and match blooms to suit your theme, whatever that might be.
guides us through the process:
• A ball of paper covered wire (you can get this from a craft shop or your florist)
• Long piece of string
• Roll of green floral tape
• Scissors
• Two large stems of waxflower
• Two stems of soft ruscus
• Small bunch of white lisianthus (around four stems, you need seven flowers in bloom)
• Five stems of small roses (enough for seven flowers in bloom)
Use the string to wrap around your head, not too tightly. Measure this against the wire, allowing an additional 8cm to wrap around
Repeat the process going in a clockwise direction. To start another length of greenery, secure the new stem with a small piece of tape.
Fix the bunches using tape at even intervals, alternating between rose and lisianthus. Tuck the stems through the foliage that has already been secured, and wrap around.
Test the loop around your head to make sure it fits – it shouldn't be too snug. Then start working with the ruscus. Remove the shoots from the main stem – this is what you'll use.
Next, tie on small stems of the wax flower (cut to 10cm), remember to go anticlockwise from the base until half way, and then place the flowers going clockwise. Tape each stem of flowers separately.
Fix your last bunch at the base of the crown, with the main flower pointing upwards, which will hide the tape from the first pieces of ruscus. And you're finished!
Secure the end of the stem of your first piece of ruscus with a tab of the floral tape – this will be the base. Wrap the greenery around anticlockwise to just over the midway point.
Make some mini bouquets: take a small shoot of the ruscus (12cm), a single rose that’s cut to roughly 10cm and the same length of waxflower. Secure together with tape, but leave the stalks free at the ends.
Our Scandi flower crown is ideal for brides who want a soft and natural look….so make sure your bouquet doesn't clash. For a whimsical stye, try a loosely-tied bouquet using the same flowers. You can add extra blossoms, as long as they don’t detract from the main flowers. Here, freshias and astilbe have been added for depth and the ruscus has been replaced by long stems of eucalyptus.

After making the big decision to get married abroad, breaking the news to your families and friends may feel like a daunting task. However, once armed with the necessary information your big reveal should be met with less shock and more excitement. It’s best to warn guests well in advance so they have time to clear their schedules, make travel arrangements. Gathering immediate family members together for a simple dinner party is a nice way to share your details. Unfortunately, it’s inevitable that some loved ones won’t be able to attend, maybe due to
minimise stress and hire a wedding planner from the get go. Lisa Redgrave, wedding planner from HitchedInItaly.com, says: “A planner is often seen as a luxury, but when marrying abroad it’s essential. Choosing someone with good knowledge of the local area, who can speak the lingo is very important. They can also guide you through the legal side of your wedding with experience and expertise.”
Top tip: Before planning a wedding abroad, it's essential
Meet your planner, visit the venues and taste the cuisine
It is a good idea to decide early on if you’ll home. This is the perfect opportunity to invite your wider circle of friends and family and celebrate with any guests who regrettably couldn’t join you abroad. You also get to wear your beautiful gown for the second time! Planning a wedding can be an overwhelming experience even if you're
Getting married later in the day is a good idea if you’re saying ‘I do' in a hot country. A 4pm ceremony means you can have a long and leisurely morning getting ready, guests can relax in the sunshine around the pool so everyone’s geared up for an evening of fun and dancing.
It is also a great idea for couples to embrace the local culture and traditions. For example, why stick to champagne for the toast when you could be drinking Prosecco in Tuscany? If you’re heading to the Caribbean, create your own signature rum cocktail.
To make the process easy for guests to attend, create a wedding website. Pack it full of useful information including local accommodation, restaurants, how to get to
the venue from the airport, even a list of phrases to help converse with the locals. Your wedding planner can help you with all of this. You can create free websites using sites such as gettingmarried.co.uk or wix.com. Finally, take your wedding dress as hand

Tucked behind the bustling streets of Soho, Ham Yard Hotel is a perfect choice if you’re after a super-chic city break. The signature style of this hotel really makes an impact – showcasing modern British flair, the hotel’s 91 bedrooms and suites have all been individually designed with eye-catching art and decor, while floor-to ceiling windows offer perfect views of the leafy courtyard and the London skyline. The property also features 13 independent stores, a vibrant restaurant and bar with outdoor dining, a drawing room and library, serene spa facilities and, if that wasn’t enough, you’ll also find a swanky theatre and bowling alley. When it’s time to venture into the city, you’ll find yourself in a thriving hotspot in the heart of the West End, surrounded by edgy bars, cafes and shops. With plenty to see and do, you’ll never want to leave.
Pairing old with new, The Pig at Combe is a Grade 1-listed Elizabethan manor house re-imagined as a chic and strippedback country hotel. Nestled in the Otter Valley in the picturesque village of Gittisham, and set within 3,500 acres of lush Devonshire countryside, this is a hotel that definitely benefits from its location.
Just eight miles from the coast, and five minutes from the market town of Honiton, those looking for a sumptuous meal will certainly be impressed with a menu filled with fresh fish and only the very best cheeses and locally-reared meats.
As for the hotel itself, The Pig offers total luxury. With 30 rooms, 17 in the main house, 10 in the stable yard and Curlditch Cottages, every couple will find a choice to their preference. The comfortable, spacious rooms have enviable views, and guests can also enjoy spa treatments on-site in the walled infusion garden.
Quiet, untouched and peaceful, the Gilpin Lake House instils a true sense of calm. Just a mile away from Gilpin Hotel, the Lake House is a sanctuary in the Lake District where just twelve guests share a fully-staffed boutique hotel, set within 100 acres of beautiful grounds.
Deep in the woods, in the Warwickshire countryside, lies Bath House. This beautiful octagon-shaped folly is a unique hideaway, that guarantees a secluded mini-moon.
While the house is small, you’ll want to stay there forever. The ceiling and walls of its cosy main room are beautifully covered with shells, making it a mesmerising retreat with entrancing views across the valley. But what’s most surprising, is if you delve below the surface you’ll find a hidden bath chamber, which boasts a magical, 18th-century-style plunge pool. Ideal for couples looking to escape from the everyday, a break here will let you immerse yourself in nature and really enjoy the simple pleasures of the countryside.
The residence offers stunning scenery and a chance to embrace nature, but it's the exclusive-use spa facilities that are undoubtably a highlight. Options include a choice of treatments, traditional saunas, two outdoor hot tubs, as well as a heated indoor pool with tranquil views towards the lake.
With no conferences or children under seven at Gilpin, this retreat offers the perfect chance to celebrate a special occasion and really indulge.

I was maid of honour at a friend’s wedding, but I want my sister to be mine. How do I approach this? First of all, I would urge you to audition people for these important roles. Are you quite sure your sister is suitable and not your friend? If you audition them both then they will totally understand that whoever is picked has passed the test. If you choose your sister and your friend is upset, then her invitation should be retracted because, quite frankly, it’s not about her, it’s YOUR big day. Auditions should test the following sort of things: how long can they go without water, how would they take you to the toilet in your big dress, are they prepared to look uglier than you? Essentially, a MOH shouldn’t really enjoy the day, nor draw attention to themselves. Her job is to ensure you have the best day of your life. Choose carefully and may the best lady win! P.S. Feel free to audition outsiders and put an ad in the local paper.
