This issue of Confetti feels like a celebration for so many reasons –weddings are back after the delays that the pandemic brought us, and we’re lucky enough to be writing about them once more. This year feels especially poignant to me, as this September I am celebrating my 10-year wedding anniversary. To be honest, I don’t know where the time has gone; I remember the day vividly. I remember my best friends helping me to get ready, my dad holding my hand so tightly on the drive to the church, and seeing my partner at the top of the aisle. We had our reception at Manchester Art Gallery, which I would highly recommend to anyone. I had so many happy memories of that place growing up, mum used to take me there for the exhibitions when I was little, and I used it as a base for my studies at school and college. It was the perfect venue, and as soon as my husband-to-be saw the gorgeous space, he knew it was the right place, too. Getting the right venue is absolutely key to your big day – and if you manage to choose something that reflects your personality, that’s all the better. We hunted high and low this issue to find some of the best places to say ‘I do’ in the UK – turn to page 93 to discover our selection; everything from historic residences to outdoor spaces, and we even meet a couple who tells us about what made their venue the perfect fit.
Our table decoration ideas for your wedding are unique and beautiful. Will you find the theme of your dreams? Take a look at page 86.
If your mind is firmly focussed on your honeymoon destination (and who can blame you) then you’ll adore this issue’s travel section. From page 123, we’ve got everything from holiday trends and peaceful resorts, to mini moons in the UK and adventurous road trips. We finish with Andi and Justin, who tell us about their honeymoon to Italy. They did almost exactly the same trip that I did, and reading their account has made me long to revisit the route – this time with my little girl in tow. Although, our honeymoon started with a panicked drive from Manchester to Gatwick… via the wrong terminal in a car full of wedding paraphernalia, that we hadn’t accounted for when we booked our flights for early afternoon the day after the wedding. Learn from my mistakes!
We'd love to know about your big day, so please get in touch and send us your real wedding ideas via our social channels: Twitter: @ConfettiWedding Instagram: @ConfettiWedding Facebook.com/confettiwedding

Jade & A ndy
WE LOVE THE ROMANTIC DETAILS IN THIS COUPLE’S RELAXED AND STYLISH CELEBRATION
Jade and Andy first met at school, but it was several years later that their love story began. In 2019, Andy proposed during a birthday brunch in Lytham. “We went out with my mum for Andy’s birthday and at the end of the brunch, Andy ordered a bottle of fizz and asked us both to cover our eyes,” recalls Jade. “He had a speech prepared talking about the tough year we’d all had as my mum had been diagnosed with terminal cancer. When we uncovered our eyes, he was there with the ring asking me to marry him.”
With planning underway, the couple decided on their dream venue – Holmes Mill in Clitheroe. “The venue was relaxed and rustic. It was a mix of all the best places so it was just the perfect place for us,” says Jade. “I went to see it with my mum and my bridesmaids shortly after we got engaged. As soon as the doors opened, my mum burst into tears! I took Andy to see it and he fell in love with it, too.”
The couple wed in July 2021 with a modern green and gold wedding. They decorated their venue with emerald candles, wine bottle centrepieces and flowers, along with plenty of glitter, sparkle and special touches in remembrance of Jade’s mum.
For her big day look, Jade opted for a beautiful, off-the-shoulder, lace gown from Australian label, Madi Lane. “After we booked the venue, me, my mum and bridesmaids decided to go dress shopping right away,” explains Jade. “We managed to get a cancellation at Kimberley Anne Bridal boutique and my dress was the second one I tried on. My mum said 'that’s the one' and so that was the one! Kimberley made the whole experience so wonderful and it was amazing that my mum saw, chose and had pictures with me in my dress even though she passed before the wedding.”
Planning tip: Don’t worry so much about things going wrong. You won’t care as you’ll be too busy having the best day ever!

Several years after meeting on a blind date, Lee proposed to Sarah on holiday in the Cotswolds. “Marriage was never much of a priority for either of us, so I was shocked when Lee proposed,” remembers Sarah. “It was a low-key proposal, but perfectly timed and very much ‘us’ ”
Despite both living in London, the pair agreed to marry in the north for their preCovid wedding, choosing Iscoyd Park as their dream venue. With its tasteful styling and beautiful grounds, the country house ticked all the right boxes.“The venue stole our hearts the moment we drove up the long sweeping drive,” says Sarah. “We could see ourselves spending one of the most memorable days of our lives there, so we booked it straight away!”
When it came to styling their wedding, Sarah and Lee opted for a “done but undone” theme – choosing dramatic floral displays as their main focus. Combining extravagant floristry with pretty candles, cute signs and quirky details, the couple created a one-of-a-kind, fairytale backdrop for their special day.
In keeping with their non-traditional theme, Sarah walked down the aisle in a

Teamed with a gold leather belt, I was in alternative wedding dress heaven!”
Lee also looked the part with a blue tweed suit from The Vintage Suit Hire Company. A Vivienne Westwood tie, floral button hole and J Fitzpatrick boots were the perfect finishing touches.

ARIANNE AND THOMAS’ WEDDING WAS PACKED WITH JOY, LOVE AND LAUGHTER REGARDLESS OF THE PANDEMIC RESTRICTIONS
We all know too well the effects that the pandemic has had on weddings since 2020. But as the adage goes, love conquers all, and while we had to pause and alter celebrations, pandemic weddings have turned out to be some of the most romantic, intimate and beautiful that we have ever come across. As it’s clear to see from the photographs of Arianne and Thomas’ wedding, their day was full of celebration. The joy on their faces, and on the faces of their guests, is heart-warming; the wedding was small and perfectly formed.
The couple first met eight years ago at college, but as they were in different year groups, they didn’t get to know each other well. Soon after, they met again as they attend the same church. Arianne jokes: “After some pursuing from Thomas, the rest is history!”
In October 2019, Thomas proposed to Arianne while they were in Dorset for the weekend with some friends. He popped the question at a quiet spot on the Jurassic Coast with beautiful Durdle Door in the background. “She had no idea the whole trip had been dedicated to this moment,” says Thomas. “She just thought we were posing for a photo. Little did she know, I was on one knee behind her.”
The couple wed on 3rd June 2021 at The Barns at Lodge Farm in Epping, with their legal ceremony taking place two days earlier. “We were trying to find a dry-hire venue as we wanted the freedom to decorate and design things ourselves, as well as celebrate Arianne’s Jamaican heritage with our catering,” says Thomas. “We also needed a building that would accommodate our original list of 220. The Barns at Lodge Farm just ticked all the right boxes for us.”
Outfits
THE BRIDE WORE…“I honestly didn't care for wearing a designer gown, but I ended up choosing a stunning Vera Wang dress from her White collection. When I stepped into it, it was so unique in comparison to anything else I had tried on. The textured organza gave it this rustic chic feel, and the wrapped bodice made my waist look amazing! The train, the way the dress moved when I walked – I felt like a boss!”
THE GROOM WORE…“I came across a double breasted jacket, which I thought was unique and something you don’t often see in groomswear. I pieced together the beige/cream jacket with dark blue trousers, with subtle gold stitching. I loved this combo, as I wasn’t keen on wearing a monochrome suit! I got the trousers hemmed too so I could show a little ankle, and low-key flex my Ralph Lauren Loafers!”
Of course, as we know, the pandemic hit – weddings were disrupted and there were months of uncertainty surrounding when gatherings would be able to happen once more. Arianne and Thomas had been planning, and were told to plan their wedding as normal, until around January 2021, when it was clear the pandemic was far from over. “We whittled our guest list down and began plans for a more intimate affair,” says Arianne. “We actually remember being gutted when Boris made the announcement about government restrictions being lifted on the 21st June, because our date, which we’d finally settled on after going back and forth so many times, frustratingly fell three weeks before the proposed lift.”
The couple had to change their plans, their date, and the size of their guest list at least four times. But they say that, ultimately, it was a blessing in disguise. “We had originally planned to have 180 day guests, and then another 40 guests for the evening, which seems crazy to us now. We were just following the ‘default format’ for weddings we’d been to,” says Arianne. “We made a pros and cons list to weigh up whether we should push back the date or not, and the pros list for sticking with our June date was so much longer.”
On the day, the couple were restricted to 30 guests, and weren’t allowed any dancing. Food and drink could only be served to seated guests at all times, which the
Supplier shout out: The Chamberlins
“We found our photographers through word of mouth. We checked out their stuff and were blown away by the quality. We wanted photos that told our love story well, but without it being too whimsical and cheesy. These guys ticked all the right boxes and more. Basically we will sing their praises all day long, these guys are a dream team.”
pair say was a bit of a technical manoeuvre in relation to the canapés and refreshment section of the day. “Masks did have to be worn when inside buildings, but it was the same rule as restaurants, so once seated it was more relaxed,” says Thomas. “Thankfully, we didn’t have to be socially distant.”
The couple express that having a more intimate guest list meant they were able to share and enjoy their day with their closest friends and family. “We felt overwhelmed with love and joy because every single person that attended has played a special part in our story,” says Arianne. “We found we were super relaxed, too, absorbing all the smaller moments. I remember saying to someone, ‘I actually ate at my wedding, like I had a moment to just sit and enjoy the food we paid for!’ We really valued those things.”
The bride and groom describe themselves as a relaxed and fun couple, and they wanted to reflect this in their wedding day as much as possible. “We went for a rustic glam theme, which for us, meant we didn’t want everything, and everyone, to match or look picture-perfect,” says Thomas. For example, the bridesmaids all wore the same style dress, but in different shades of blue. And Arianne requested they wear their hair in a way to best suit their personality. For the groomsmen, Thomas wanted no ties, open shirts with linen blazers, and each could choose their own brown shoes. “All accessorised with sunglasses to give that small edge,” says Thomas.
When asked about their favourite elements of the day, the couple found it hard to narrow the list down. Their wedding celebration was such a memorable and unique occasion, it was also a celebration of love, family and friendship – and being reunited after the long months of separation that the lockdowns caused. Arianne says: “It also made it more emotional, because we had faced all these challenges and after those months of uncertainty we were standing in this glorious day, with perfect weather, finally able to step into our new season of marriage even stronger. True jubilation.”
Thomas echoes this note, and concludes: “There was a thick atmosphere of love and everyone was so chilled out, truly living their best post-lockdown lives. It made the stress of planning, and thinking of all the little details, so worth it.”

Planning WITH U NCERTA INTY
We ask the experts for their top tips and advice when planning a wedding during the pandemic…
Charlotte Ricard -Quesada, founder of La Fête, la-fete.com
Sarah Balfour, founder of Orchid Events, orchidevents.co.uk
Victoria Ewing & Caroline Gould, co-owners of The Wedding Planners, thewedplanners.co.uk
Your engagement should be one of the most exciting times of your life – but when planning your wedding falls during a pandemic, it’s understandable if you’re feeling a little anxious. The last 18 months have been tough for everyone, and with no promises that the pandemic will be over when your big day arrives, it’s more important than ever to be organised and prepared for any challenges. We know this process is daunting and can be incredibly overwhelming for even the calmest of couples – so to help you out, we chatted to three wedding planners who know better than anyone how to navigate these unprecedented times. Here are their tips and suggestions to help you plan your dream day with as little stress as possible…
Start planning early
If you’re newly engaged, there’s plenty to be excited about – but it’s so easy to put off the planning process if you’re feeling intimidated by the prospect. According to Sarah Balfour at Orchid Events, it’s important to get planning as soon as possible. “Due to the backlog of weddings from the past 18 months, many suppliers and venues may well be booked up,” she explains. With key suppliers focusing on couples who need to reschedule during the pandemic, you’ll want to secure your date early. But if you’re not set on a specific date or don’t want a long engagement? Sarah suggests considering an alternative: “If you can be flexible with dates, go for a weekday wedding as there will likely be more availability and you may find you can get reduced rates, too.”
Have a back-up plan
Especially with the changing restrictions, it goes without saying that you need to have a back-up plan. “Couples planning their wedding really have to master adapting in the post-Covid wedding world,” say Caroline Gould and Victoria Ewing – the duo behind The Wedding Planners. “As professional wedding planners, this has long been a skill of ours so we recommend having indoor and outdoor contingencies. As well as this, consider a little plan B for a day that’s more reliant on guests being seated for food service –think games that can be enjoyed at the table or food presentation that’s a little more theatrical. This will be particularly important during winter months when restrictions may tighten and you can’t rely on outdoor weddings for flexibility.”
Check your policies
Now, more than ever, wedding insurance is a must, recommends Sarah. “When taking out insurance, just be sure to check that the policy covers the pandemic as many removed Covid from their terms and conditions,” she explains. “If you don’t take out insurance, I suggest paying by credit card – then, if a company does go bust, you can claim for up to £30,000.” In addition to this, Sarah suggests checking your supplier contracts also cover Covid and any pandemic-related restrictions. It’s also worth noting that postponing your wedding shouldn’t require further charges, unless you’re moving your date from a weekday to a weekend – just be sure to check what’s specified in writing.
Communicate openly
“Communication is always important, regardless of a pandemic. But right now, it’s key to communicate with your suppliers to understand how they are keeping you and your guests safe and happy,” says Charlotte RicardQuesada, founder of La Fête. And it’s not just your suppliers who need to be on the same page as you. “Make sure you also let your guests know what you expect from them and what you are able to offer them for their safety – this could be lateral flow tests, masks and sanitisers,” she adds. Everyone wants to have fun at your wedding and it’s important to remember that some people will be feeling more anxious than others when it comes to attending social events, even once restrictions have eased.
Embrace the new normal
Although we’ve seen shifts with restrictions easing in the past few months, it’s important to remember the implications of Covid and what it could mean if guidelines change again. “If you have vulnerable guests, or if restrictions tighten up, this could look like embracing things such as masks – even using them as wedding favours for a practical memento of your day!” explain Caroline and Victoria. Likewise, it’s a good idea to require your guests and suppliers to do a lateral flow test before the big day. “It’s perfectly fine to ask people to take them,” agrees Charlotte. “If everyone there has a negative result, you’ll all be able to fully enjoy the day.” Weddings are undoubtedly different now, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have the day you’ve always been dreaming of. If you respect the new normal and accept any changes, you can still have all the fun you always thought you would.

Countryside ROMANCE
Be inspired by this dreamy styled shoot; it’s pretty and picture-perfect in every way
Butley Priory is the ideal backdrop for this pretty and delicate styled shoot – it’s a picture-perfect snapshot of an idyllic English countryside wedding. Peacefully located in an area of outstanding natural beauty, close to Suffolk’s coast, the Priory is the former gatehouse to an Augustine monastery, founded in 1171. It’s a real architectural gem, packed with character and rich in history – it’s romantic to the core.
The Wildflower Wedding Planner meticulously styled this dreamy wedding scheme. The pretty details and soft colour palette were led by the beautiful array of sustainable home grown flowers, created by Passionflowers by Emma Spowage. The bride looks nothing short of glorious in the couture gown by the hugely talented Kate Edmondson – all her dresses are designed and made in the UK; she’s renowned for her elegant creations that come with a touch of vintage glamour and edgy luxury. We love the translucent sleeves and floral embellishment at the bottom of the skirt and across the bodice; the dress is as packed with romance and charm as the beautiful Priory itself.
PLANNING
The bride’s outfit is completed with beautiful accessories from Hermione Harbutt. We adore the golden tiara, The Cordelia, with its delicate leaves of freshwater pearls and golden cherry blossoms, scattered with Swarovski crystals.
The look is fi nished with a gorgeous pair of shoes by Di Hassall, which boast superpretty 3D flower detail and the softest pink suede. The medium heel is the perfect height.
The table decor excludes vintage chic. The mix of blooms take centre stage, with an array of pinks and whites, with each posey and bouquet built for texture and depth. The white crockery is dressed with pretty tasseled place names and is surrounded by golden cutlery and cut wine and water glasses, adding to the vintage effect.
Clear glass candle holders and pink and white sticks offer height, and add to the tonal shades of pink. The fi replace in the background has been dressed to dramatic effect, with a cascade of flowers and foliage – the English country garden has been brought inside.
PLANNING
The most delicate and delicious looking cake was designed by Mon Annie – pure white with impeccable floral detailing, dressed with sugar flowers at the base. It was inspired by the architecture of the venue, and certainly channels its magic.
The stationery selection captures the essence of the styling overall; the colours, details and the classic/ contemporary blend is perfect. Designed by Peonies and Paperclips, the luxe cotton paper with foiled letters, etched-style illustrations, pretty pink tassels and elegant wax seals (in the palest of pinks) is utterly alluring.

While pastels often create a more classic look, modern couples shouldn’t be put o this muted colour palette. We love this stylish mix of purple, pink, cream and peach. To avoid the combo looking fussy, keep the decor simple. Try adding delicate, single stems in vases, consider tinted glassware and finish the look o with a scattering of flower heads.

BOLD & BRIGHT
Peonies and blue are the inspiration behind this glamorous table setting. It’s the perfect look for chic couples. Pair pale hazy petals with exotic pinks and set them against a backdrop of blue to create a vibrant palette. To help channel the vibe, use vintage vases, display serviettes as bows and add scalloped tableware to finish o this helplessly romantic style.

BOTANICAL GARDENS
Inspired by natural greenery, botanical styling is a big trend in bridal. Think fresh green and white hues, with a twist of rustic materials, and you’ll be all set for your big day. We love this hanging wreath used as a centrepiece, which, believe it or not, is an easy way to save on your wedding budget as opposed to a voluptuous (and inevitably expensive) floral display.

Becca and Jordan wed at the stunning Wasing Park, their dream setting in so many ways...
Becca and Jordan’s love story is gorgeous through and through. They met at secondary school, dated for a while and then fell head over heels all over again some years later.
“Jordan sat next to me in maths, copying my work and stealing my rulers,” says Becca. “We ended up in the same friendship group, and dated for more than two years as teenagers.” The pair parted for a few years, but met up again towards the end of Becca’s time at university. “We’ve spoken every day since. We bought a house in 2019, got the most mischievous dog in the world (our beagle Winston), and after an extra year’s delay thanks to Covid-19, we finally tied the knot in 2021.”
was the most idyllic spot. It’s secluded from the rest of the venue, and guests have views over the stunning fields, surrounded by beautiful landscaping. As a bride, I could see our loved ones as we approached, but they couldn’t see us thanks to the hedging, so the excitement builds. It’s a peaceful, really gorgeous place.”

In 2018, the couple went over to Sydney to visit Becca’s parents who were living there at the time. Becca recalls that Jordan – who she describes as the chattiest person in the room – seemed quiet and distracted. He raced through security when they arrived at the airport, paranoid that the diamond engagement ring hidden in his backpack would be revealed. After asking for her parents’ blessing, Jordan found a beautiful secluded spot close to Balmoral beach in Sydney and popped the question. Becca of course said yes.

The couple’s original wedding date was set for Sunday 4th July 2020, but of course, the pandemic meant things had to be postponed by a year, and there were restrictions from the government and uncertainty leading up to the big day. “Wasing Park worked incredibly hard to go through all the restrictions, guidelines and advice to develop a plan of action for us, which meant we could have a day as close as possible to what we had originally hoped for.”

After spending the night before the wedding on-site at Kitts Cottage, Becca and her bridesmaids moved across to the bridal suite to get ready in the morning. The ceremony was held at the Summerhouse, followed by a drinks reception on the terrace and in the Garden Room – with music from string quartet, Saffron Strings. The wedding breakfast took place in Castle Barn, where a mouth-watering three course meal was served.
While they were still away in Australia, the couple started to look at venues online. Wasing Park was one of the first that they discovered. “My parents happened to be back that Christmas for a few weeks; I booked a tour of Wasing Park. From then on, every venue we saw we naturally compared to it – and none could beat it!”
The couple loved that everything was in one place –the ceremony, reception, and rooms for people to stay. One of her favourite aspects was the Summerhouse. She had always imagined getting married outside: “This really
“It was honestly the best food we’ve ever tasted,” says Becca. “Most people I’ve spoken to say that typically wedding food is okay, but nothing special. However, that was not the case with Wasing Park; all our guests told us how incredible their meals were – it was such a memorable part of the day.”
“The day ran really smoothly thanks to the venue and our wonderful suppliers who all were such experts and familiar with what needed to happen. People are right when they say it goes so fast – so definitely try to soak up every moment,” says Becca.

Planning guidelines
THE KEY TO PLANNING A WEDDING ABROAD IS ORGANISATION – OUR HANDY TIMELINE IS FULL OF TOP TIPS FOR PLANNING SUCCESS!
There are hundreds of reasons why couples choose to tie the knot overseas, and there is no better time to start your planning than now. “When couples get married abroad, they can have the wedding they always dreamed of, but with almost guaranteed sunshine, depending on the destination they choose,” says Katherine, a TUI wedding planner in Cyprus.
24-18 MONTHS
It would be great to start your planning around two years before you want to wed – but your focus will be on finding the right destination and setting. “The first thing a couple needs to decide on is their venue. In Cyprus (as in many destinations) we have lots of different options, so whether a couple has been dreaming of a rustic tavern in the mountains or an elegant affair at a five-star golf resort, there is something to suit everyone and every budget,” says Katherine. TUI's specialist weddings team will help you to book your holiday and add on the relevant wedding package. They will talk you through everything you need to be aware of and help you with the details of the contract. Once this aspect has been completed, your preferred date should be confirmed within eight weeks, although in some cases it may be up to 16 weeks.
18-12 MONTHS
It’s time to start thinking about the fun stuff ! Your TUI contract will have all the details of your in-resort wedding co-ordinator – who you can contact to introduce yourself and start talking about your big day. “Once the wedding package is booked, our lovely couples receive a welcome email from their wedding advisor, with wonderful hints and tips to help with the planning process, as well as access to all brochures about wedding extras,” says Katherine. This is a great time to send out some Save the Date cards to your guests, too.
SIX MONTHS
couple has any questions about the documents needed for their wedding, they can send their questions to us by email, or we can give them a call to talk through everything with them. What you need may differ depending on the destination you choose, but your expert TUI wedding advisor will be able to give you more information.”
THREE MONTHS
It’s all about the finer details and time to prepare the little touches that will make your event an affair to remember. The wedding co-ordinator at your destination will be in touch with you to help you with important aspects, such as hair and make-up, cakes and drinks packages, for example. All wedding packages with TUI come with a cake as standard, but you can discuss the options for upgrading to a frosted, multi-tiered cake at this stage, too. This is also the perfect time to organise hotel day passes for any of your guests that are staying in a different hotel to you.
Excitement will be mounting – and now is the time to send out your formal wedding invites. This is the period where you focus on all the other types of essential paperwork. “Every destination has its own requirements, and once the wedding is booked, a full checklist of required documents is supplied in the couple’s wedding contract,” explains Katherine. “If a

Check and double check you have all your wedding essentials together, as well as all your paperwork and passports.
READY, STEADY, WED!
You should arrive at your destination a few days before the event, so get to know your venue and meet your wedding co-ordinator. “The most important tip we can give is to relax and enjoy the experience,” says Katherine. “Wedding planning should be fun, and we are here to make the experience as stress-free and enjoyable as possible. Ask us questions, share all your hopes and dreams for your wedding day, and together we will ensure that your destination wedding is an experience you will never forget!”

SO WHAT’S THE PROCESS INVOLVED IN BOOKING YOUR DREAM DESTINATION WEDDING? WE TAKE A CLOSER LOOK...
Your engagement is all about celebrating with your nearest and dearest... and of course, booking your wedding! It may feel overwhelming at first, but this is exactly the reason why TUI has an expert weddings team who will be on hand to guide you through every step of the way. Not only will the wedding advisors discuss potential destinations, wedding types, dates and budgets, they’ll let you know what suits your guest numbers, too. Even better, they will be on hand to help you factor in the finer details, like your photographer, DJ and cake, which can then be passed on to your wedding planner.
The weddings team will book your holiday for you, then add on the wedding package – and they will explain your contract in detail. You’ll then be asked to sign this to confirm you’re happy to go ahead.
COSTS
Destination weddings from TUI are affordable –there’s a huge range of prices, so you can book your dream wedding abroad for almost a third of the cost of the average UK wedding, which currently stands at £15k! Of course, if you want a blow-the-budget big day, TUI can help you with that, too.
Deposits for booking a wedding abroad with TUI start from £250 and go up to 60% of the wedding package cost, so you’re bound to find an option that suits you when booking your wedding abroad. If you’re looking for a truly affordable option for your destination wedding, consider Cyprus. The average cost of a wedding package and holiday to Cyprus for two starts from £5,500 (excluding reception and paperwork costs).
Some venues will also offer discounts to groups of more than 10 adults, which is a great option if you’re planning a larger gathering at your wedding.
GUEST DETAILS
Your guests will make your big day extra special, so it’s wise to get them organised as early as possible! Ideally, they would all stay in the same hotel as you so you can have a wonderful time together before, during and after the wedding – but it isn’t essential. If they are residing elsewhere, some hotels offer day passes for guests who aren’t staying, while others will ask that a certain number of your wedding guests stay at the same place as you. For example, RIU hotels require at least 80% of guests to be staying at the same hotel.
Of course, you don’t need to have a huge entourage. If a low-key affair is more your style, you can tie the knot without any guests in most places. You’ll need a couple of witnesses, though. Most TUI hotels are able to arrange this for you, sometimes for a fee. The exception to the rule is Costa Rica – you’ll need witnesses who are family or close friends.
Good to know
Here are just a few of the things TUI can organise for you
UPGRADE OPTIONS are available; everything from a romantic candle-lit meal to breakfast in bed or even a pampering treatment or two.
FLOWERS are such a crucial aspect to finish your look. TUI can arrange bouquets and buttonholes when you arrive, and help you tailor them to the destination, season and climate.
PHOTOGRAPHY is such an important part of your wedding. TUI can arrange for the whole wedding to be photographed and filmed – and even set up a live feed for friends and family to watch at home.
CAKE is included in all the wedding packages as standard. If you want something extra special you can upgrade to something with added flair.
MUSIC sets the scene and there is a whole host of options available, everything from steel drums, a string quartet, or a live band.
GETTING THERE in style is no problem. Your wedding coordinator can help you hire a vintage car, a limo, or even a horse-drawn carriage. Plus, TUI can arrange transport for your guests.
Real Wedding Emily & Rhys
WANT TO BE INSPIRED? TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AT THIS COUPLE’S IDYLLIC WEDDING, SET
IN PICTURESQUE RHODES, GREECE
Idyllic surroundings, delicious food and an extra special vibe – these are all things that come as standard when you choose to marry overseas. Emily and Rhys embraced these elements when they decided to tie the knot in Kallithea Springs, Rhodes. “When we pictured ourselves getting married, we wanted to be surrounded by our closest family and friends in a beautiful but simple venue that had lots of flowers and natural light,” says Emily. “Living in the UK, weather can be unpredictable, so we wanted to increase our chances of getting married in the sunshine by choosing to get married abroad.”
PREPARATION
The couple had been to a few destination weddings in the past and were totally blown away by the atmosphere. And, after failing to find a venue in the UK
that lived up to their expectations, they decided to contact TUI and discuss the options for an overseas affair. The couple’s experienced wedding advisors talked them through potential destinations, wedding types, dates, budget and how many guests they wanted.
Once Emily and Rhys decided to get married in Rhodes and had their wedding date confirmed, the couple started planning with their wedding planner based on location. “They pretty much organised most things,” says Emily. “The only things we organised were our legal documents, and personal touches, such as our wedding favours.
“We were assigned our wedding planner a month prior to our departure, and that’s who was with us on our big day. The wedding planner was great – we met with them a few days prior to the ceremony and handed over our favours, but they arranged absolutely everything else for us.”
THE BIG DAY
The couple wanted to add some special touches, so they bought extras like a photographer, floral decorations, table decorations and hair and make-up for Emily. “We also upgraded bouquets for myself and bridesmaids, ordered button holes for the wedding party, and Champagne for our guests.”
With 34 people in attendance, Emily and Rhys held their ceremony in a local venue and their wedding reception at a family-run Greek taverna. “We chose this based on handy recommendations from our wedding co-ordinator,” explains Emily. “Our tables were set up under a wooden gazebo that faced the sea. As we were getting married in Greece, we wanted our wedding day to have the little things that reflected the culture, so we opted for a Greek BBQ menu with traditional meze for dinner.”
And for the evening, the couple booked some local Greek dancers as a surprise for their guests. “Everything was perfect from start to finish – it’s really hard to choose just one highlight,” says Emily.
LOOKING BACK
Both Rhys and Emily loved every aspect of their destination wedding and would encourage others considering marrying abroad to go for it. “Getting married abroad is very different to getting married in the UK. It’s quite normal to be starting the process a few months before departure. It doesn’t sound like a long time, but trust the process as the TUI wedding planner will arrange everything for you,” explains Emily. “If you want to plan as much as you can then I’d recommend setting dates to talk with your wedding co-ordinator – ours was amazing!”
The venue and overall experience have created lasting memories for the couple and all their guests – a wedding that will never be forgotten. “I would 100% recommend booking your wedding with TUI, especially in Kallithea, which was just beautiful.”
Different celebrations
If you feel inspired by Emily and Rhys’s wedding story, you can plan your own celebration your own way:
● Legal weddings
Lots of TUI weddings are also legally recognised in the UK – not just those in a church. Weddings are conducted by a registrar, like in the UK, and you’ll be issued with a legal certificate.
● Religious weddings
Overseas weddings can contain as much custom and convention as you want. If you or your partner have been baptised or Christened, you can have an Anglican church wedding in Cyprus.
● Vow renewal

IDYLLIC RETREATS AND COOL CITIES FOR DYNAMIC WEDDINGS AND DREAMY HONEYMOONS
The UK’s Finest
The UK is full of hidden gems, so whether you're planning a minimoon or a longer honeymoon on home shores, there's a wealth of options to explore. Cornwall is an amazing county that’s full of hidden gems; from picturesque beaches to stunning countryside and gastronomic hotspots. Padstow has it all; it’s a charming fishing port surrounded by glorious sandy beaches. It’s known for its amazing restaurant scene, where British food icon Rick Stein has opened numerous hotels and restaurants.
Plus, the divine Camel Valley wine estate is also close by. Take the ferry across the river to the village of Rock, popular with film stars, models and even royalty. From here, there are some great walks along the coast to the spectacular beaches of Daymer Bay and Polzeath, two of the most idyllic in the country.

IF YOU’RE DREAMING OF MARRYING OVERSEAS, YOU’LL LOVE THESE BEAUTIFUL DESTINATIONS
The trendy French Riviera is a great option for a lavish celebration
FRANCE
Chic and oh so romantic, it’s no surprise that France is a popular country for a fairytale wedding abroad. With its elegant settings and its close proximity to the UK, this is a great option if you want a destination celebration that still feels classic and traditional.
Across the country, you’ll find a gorgeous selection of places to tie the knot – from dreamy castles to vineyards, farmhouses and boutique hotels. You’ll also have a diverse choice of scenery depending on the area you go for. Top locations include the beautiful Loire Valley and the glamorous French Riviera – both of which offer something a little different.
If you’re after a château wedding venue, the former will be the perfect location for you. Here, in the heart of France, you’ll find rolling countryside, pretty towns and majestic castles alongside the river Loire.
And if you’re after a more contemporary or luxury vibe? The south of France will tick the right boxes. The star-studded French Riviera is home to a host of swanky beach clubs, villas and resorts that are perfect for a sumptuous affair. We particular love Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild – this prestigious venue is a jewel on the sparkling coastline.
ICELAND
A country like no other, Iceland is home to natural wonders such as tumbling waterfalls, lagoons and volcanoes – all of which set a brilliant scene for your special day. Not just for elopements, larger wedding ceremonies can also take place in Iceland, with authentic venues that make the most of the great outdoors.
With so many striking settings to choose from, this vast and diverse country offers something for everyone – and better still, travel companies such as TUI offer comprehensive wedding packages, meaning you won’t have the hassle of planning everything yourself.
One of the country’s most famous sites is the iconic Blue Lagoon which is a oneof-a-kind spot for getting hitched. But if you want a more remote setting instead, you could consider saying your vows in Thingvellir National Park or in front of Seljalandsfoss waterfall. Surrounded by rolling countryside, this impressive
waterfall promises a glorious backdrop for all your big day photographs. And for something totally unique? You could also wow your guests with a celebration on a spectacular black sand beach in the coastal village of Vik.
We love the idea of a dreamy French château wedding – it's stylish and romantic

THREE OF THE BEST Destination dresses
Sophia Tolli Style Y22174 is ideal for a princess, think somewhere in the countryside – maybe a French château or a glorious Spanish palace.
Deja by Evie Young is the perfect gown for a relaxed, e ortlessly chic a air. We can imagine this dress worn in a vineyard or beach setting, from Santorini to the Spanish riviera.
Mikaella Bridal Style 2352 is perfect for a destination ‘I do’. The soft fl owing skirt and detailed bodice is stunning, but will travel well and feel cool on a balmy day.
ITALY
There’s no denying the romance of Italy and this is a destination that should be on your list if you want a truly magical setting. Like other European countries, Italy has a beautiful mix of places, making it a great option no matter your style or theme. For couples after a city wedding, both Venice and Rome offer a choice of enchanting settings with glamorous hotels, grand palaces and historical landmarks. While for a rustic celebration, the hills of Tuscany deliver breathtaking rural scenery.
If you’re after an outdoor wedding, the latter is an amazing choice. Tuscany’s wedding venues lend themselves to al fresco celebrations with pretty vineyards and farmhouse courtyards decorated with fairylights and flowers.
And if an open air coastal wedding is more your thing? The sparkling Amalfi Coast will take your breath away. As one of the world’s most-loved wedding destinations, the villages on the Amalfi Coast are a picture-perfect location for an ultra-romantic celebration. Cliffside Positano is the well-known spot here with its dreamy blush house and panoramic sea vistas. Our favourite venues include Villa Magia and Villa Oliviero – both offer stylish terraces with unmatched views.
GREECE
With its excellent weather, picturesque towns and unspoilt beaches, Greece is a beautiful choice for an overseas wedding. Santorini is usually a first pick with its whitewashed houses and blue-domed churches – but with so many other spots to choose from, it isn’t your only option for a postcard-perfect wedding setting.
From Zante to Corfu, all Greece’s holiday hotspots promise a breathtaking backdrop for your special day – think olivecloaked hills, turquoise seas and gorgeous beaches. Crete is one of our favourites, and as the largest island, you’ll find options for every wedding; from beach and woodland events to traditional chapel ceremonies.
Over on the mainland, you can’t go wrong with the ancient city of Athens. In the heart of the capital, you’ll find a bustling destination that’s rich in culture and full of chic settings. You could also consider the nearby Athens Riviera, which promises luxe venues, such as the Four Seasons, overlooking the Aegean Sea. As an easily accessible part of Greece, this is a convenient destination for your guests –and can be a perfect starting point before exploring the islands on your honeymoon.
SPAIN
Want a lively, once-in-a-lifetime fiesta for your wedding? With year-round sunshine, delicious food and a beautiful coastline, you’re guaranteed an event to remember if you tie the knot in Spain.
As a country that’s fast becoming one of Europe’s favourite wedding spots, you can be sure to find a venue and location here to suit what you’re after. On the mainland, places to wed include the popular Costa Del Sol, beautiful Barcelona and stylish Seville. But for a Spanish island wedding instead, the Balearic Islands offer cool surroundings for a barefoot boho experience. Ibiza remains one of our top choices for destination weddings with its five-star resorts, chilled out beach clubs and beautiful fincas such as the seriously romantic Can Domingo.
Further afield, Spain’s gorgeous Canary Islands shouldn’t be forgotten about either. Much further south than the country’s other islands, you’ll find an unbeatable climate, as well as captivating volcanic landscapes, lush forests and beautifully wild beaches. Beach weddings, hotel receptions and church ceremonies are all available here and some of our recommended resort venues include the stylish Bahía del Duque and Sheraton La Caleta, which boast tropical gardens and prime seafront locations.

WE TAKE A LOOK AT FLY-DRIVE HONEYMOONS AND THE DESTINATIONS THAT SHOULD BE ON YOUR BUCKET LIST
Fly-drive honeymoons are the hot new trend and it’s easy to see why. Offering freedom and adventure, overseas road trips let you put your own spin on your getaway with a once-in-a-lifetime itinerary that’s completely bespoke.
With this style of holidaying, nowhere is off-limits and you can experience as much as you’d like in your chosen destination. Whether you want mountain scenery, a coastal break or time in a new city, a fl ydrive honeymoon will tick all the right boxes. And better still, these trips also offer plenty of privacy and a chance to get off the beaten track – something which is welcome if the pandemic has you worried about being in crowds.
You’ll find many diverse countries across the globe that are fantastic for a getaway behind the wheel.
From great American adventures to expeditions in the Australian outback, there’s something to suit every travel pace and style. And, as your honeymoon can be custom-designed, you can be as spontaneous or as organised as you’d like.
When it comes to your budget, there's more reason to love a fl y-drive honeymoon, too. It may not be as easy as heading to an all-inclusive, but you can still control where you stay along the way and what you want to spend each night. You can opt for a preplanned package or create your route yourself, with options to sleep in boutique hotels and luxury lodgings, as well as motels and camping spots if you want your savings to stretch further.
Optimal for those who have two or more weeks to explore, these are the destinations we particularly love for a truly one-of-a-kind honeymoon…
South Africa
With its striking landscapes, sparkling coastline and abundance of wildlife, South Africa has become a go-to destination for a luxury honeymoon. As a diverse and sprawling country, it’s a great place to explore by car and its network of roads gives you freedom to plan your trip exactly as you’d like. The Garden Route is the best-known drive here – taking in 300km of breathtaking scenery along the southern coast. We suggest starting your trip in Cape Town to make the most of this beautiful city first. And if you have extra time? Consider a day trip to Cape Point via Chapman’s Peak Drive – this winding route is famous for its dramatic mountain and sea views. Ending in Simon’s Town, you’ll also get the chance to hang out with a colony of penguins on the popular Boulders Beach.
Canada
Often ranked as one of the most picturesque countries in the world, Canada is a honeymoon destination that has it all. With its wild expanse of beautiful landscapes, this massive country is ideal for a road trip. The west coast is usually a first choice for honeymooners as it’s here you’ll find the alpine ski village of Whistler and the cosmopolitan city of Vancouver. If you’re after forests, mountains and lakes, consider a road trip from Vancouver to Calgary taking in the pristine wilderness of the Icefields Parkway and Banff National Park. Or for an east coast adventure instead? Start your adventure in Toronto with a road trip to the world famous Niagara Falls and Canada’s capital city, Ottawa.
USA
Few places conjure images of a road trip quite like America. From the famous Route 66 to cruising the California coast, this is a top choice if you want an iconic stateside honeymoon.
With national parks, deserts, beaches, cities and more, you’ll be able to combine all your favourite things on a road trip here. On the west coast, why not fl y into San Francisco before picking up your car and heading to Yosemite National Park, Death Valley and Las Vegas? Or for an adventure to the Deep South, consider the Great River Road from Minnesota to Louisiana.
Following the Mississippi river, this epic 3,000 mile journey will take you through scenic landscapes, cultural spots and vibrant cities before finishing in New Orleans – the ultimate destination for a lively and memorable honeymoon celebration.
New Zealand
Home to lakes, mountains and Hobbiton, New Zealand is a picture-perfect setting for an unforgettable honeymoon. Hiring a car or campervan is the best way to travel here and there are plenty of routes to choose from – all with breathtaking views at every turn. If you have more than two weeks, it’s well worth visiting both islands – fl ying into Auckland and out from Christchurch. But if you’re short on time, a focus on the South Island will deliver the jaw-dropping scenery that New Zealand is famous for. From Christchurch, get your wheels and consider a loop that takes in Queenstown, Mt Cook and Milford Sound. Here, you’ll find glaciers, fjords and peaceful alpine hideaways. Adrenaline junkies will also have plenty to enjoy on this trip, with activities including sky diving, bungy jumping and heli-hiking.
Australia
If you’re lucky enough to have several weeks off, a once-in-a-lifetime trip Down Under could be perfect for you. Not just for those on their gap year, in Australia you’ll find an incredibly vast landscape with plenty of options to enjoy a romantic escape. Artsy Melbourne is a great starting point for couples who want a cultural city break before driving the famous Great Ocean Road. But if you’re after a more tropical experience, a trip from the Gold Coast to Cairns boasts lush rainforests, white sand beaches and a chance to visit the Great Barrier Reef. Along the way, be sure to stop at Airlie Beach where you’ll find the gateway to the beautiful Whitsunday Islands – a paradise location with some of the best beaches in the world.

Andi and Justin tell us about their romantic honeymoon in idyllic Italy
We love travelling, in fact, we got engaged on one of our expeditions to the Caribbean. We had a minimoon after our big day at the amazing Pig Hotel in the New Forest. We ate amazing food and relaxed – which made us all the more eager to get on our real honeymoon to Italy! Three months later and it was time to jet off. We flew from Heathrow to Rome, and treated ourselves to Champagne en route. Justin and I have such different ideas of what makes an amazing holiday – he wants the hustle, bustle and culture that cities have to offer, and I love to relax and eat good food (he’s totally in agreement on the food front!).
We spent the first four nights at the amazing Palm Suite Hotel. The location was amazing, it was right in the centre close to the Colosseum. But even better, the hotel itself looks like it’s right out of the pages of a fancy magazine – it’s decorated so beautifully and felt so luxurious. We spent our days sightseeing and wandering around the gorgeous artworks in Galleria Borghese and LaGalleria Nazionale. In the afternoons we always made time for cocktails and aperitivo, and then rich and heavy carb dinners… absolute heaven. We also took a day trip to see the Vatican City, which was just amazing, and such a worthwhile thing to do.
On our fifth and final night in Rome we stayed at the Terme Roma – a really old school luxury spa and wellness hotel. We had massages, and I had a facial, too. It was the perfect relaxing ending to our city break and put us in the right gear for the next part of our holiday.
We flew to Catania airport in Sicily and travelled to our hotel in Taormina. We chose to stay at the Hotel Villa Ducale for five nights on the recommendation of a colleague of Justin’s. It’s a pretty boutique hotel with the most amazing view of the bays and mountains. It felt so luxurious and relaxing – it was almost overwhelmingly romantic. On the first day we relaxed at the hotel and in the small pool, before wandering around the town in the evening.
An older couple we met, who were just finishing their holiday, recommended Tischi Toschi restaurant to us. It was a little trattoria and probably one of the best meals of my life – I think about it on an almost daily basis!
We spent most of our days at the beautiful local beaches. Isola Bella was particularly gorgeous, with pebbles and sand underfoot, and the most amazing outlook. We also loved Lido Mazzaro beach, which you have to take a small cable car to reach. It was utterly blissful. We did expel a little energy, too, as we took a guided excursion up Mount Etna – which was a mix of hiking and off-road driving. Our hotel arranged it for us, but it was such a fun and unusual thing to do. I would recommend that everyone has their honeymoon in Italy as I genuinely can’t think of a single moment that wasn’t perfect.
