Kelly Marshall: Teaching Students to "Spread the Red" with Genuine Love & Compassion

Local Music Teacher Has “Noted” Background By Donna Langston Anita Gaines Temple is the Choral Director/Music Teacher in the Corinth School District. Her biography would probably make Beethoven envious. The extensive list of credits is too exhaustive to include all in this limited space, but to name just a few is as follows: She is a graduate of Biggersville High School, where she Anita Gaines was Valedictorian, President of the Student Council, won numerous academic awards and band scholarships. She then attended Northeast Community College and earned more accolades – among them she was in Phi Theta Kappa, won a talent show with Tommie Keenum, toured with Jazz Band, was in Campus Country, and received several social awards. By Angela Rogalski In a world sometimes gone mad with chaos, coldness and the impersonal reflections of hectic day-to-day living; when someone comes along who takes the time to actually show care and concern for others, you want to give those people a shout-out. You have to; because the compassion and love that they demonstrate is so prominent it's almost palpable. Kelly Marshall is one such person. Marshall is an administrative assistant at the Corinth Middle School, which is a great job in and of itself, but in reality, Kelly Marshall's interests and endeavors when it comes to the students of Corinth Middle School go much further than the doors of the office. Two years ago, Marshall enacted a program within the school called "Spread the Red." Once a year, at Valentine's Day, the middle school comes together as a whole to donate food items for gift boxes which are see MARSHALL page 4

Out of 500 applicants, Fields was chosen as one of 83 students. Fields stated, "The summer of 2015 I applied for the White House Initiative on HBCUs as an ambassador for Rust College. By faith my application was submit-

ted late, with not a promise that it would even be considered among the 500 applicants. In August I received an email." The group of All-Stars participated in last year's White House HBCU Week Conference in September 2015 as well as various national events and web chats with WHIHBCU staff and professionals. "The experience on becoming an HBCU All-Star is humbling. Never in a million years would I have dreamed of representing Rust College on a national platform such as this.
