Biggersville Man Hands Down Parents' Love through Baking and Woodwork By B.H. Bonds

For a mother or father, the hope is always to live the best you’ve learned, so that your kids will have learned the best from you. You pass on your love, and teach your children how to love, but you also pass on your interests and teach your acquired skills, because it is within this time spent together that love is made manifest. Through our cares, caring gets passed down. And then...no one understands these principles like a daughter or a son. Mike Devers, 58 of Biggersville, gets it. Upon retirement, Devers developed two hobbies: baking and woodwork. These pursuits are very personal to Devers, who sees in them not just an outlet for personal enjoyment, but a way to share that joy with others. Specifically, it is a way to share joys that came from his parents. Devers began cooking around ten years ago as a way to record for posterity the lifetime of

All of us hope to live well. And we hope to live well enough that the same spirit that guided us will continue to live on through others. Love and kindness, teaching and mentorship, passion and hard work, these are seeds we sow--that the world may reap their fruits long after we are gone. It’s not about fame or glory. It’s not about accomplishing some great thing or being known by thousands of people-it’s about doing the small things with diligence and love and being a positive influence to those we see in our day-today lives. And, when we look at things this way, we realize there are no “small things”-we don’t see the size of the seed, but the size of the great branching tree it is to become. No one understands these principles like a parent. Mike Devers

(StatePoint) With 2017 about halfway over, it’s an ideal time to evaluate your goals and objectives, and take action if necessary to get back on track. July 1 is “Second Half of the Year Day,” and a good opportunity to do some hard thinking about the aspects of your life that you might want to improve or change. To make the second half of the year count, consider tackling one or more of the following projects. Meet Financial Benchmarks Everyone could use more money. While you may not currently have the option of making more, you do have a choice of how you spend and save what you are earning. Renew your financial goals by clarifying exactly what they are and drawing

a road map towards achieving success. You may find more luck if you set one smaller financial goal alongside your larger objectives. So, while you’re paying down debt or saving for retirement, also work on your vacation fund. Make More Music Did you resolve to learn a new skill, such as playing a musical instrument? Many people vow to learn how to play a piano in the new year. Whether you’re brand-new to the instrument or you’ve been playing for years, keep up with your practice by setting a challenging musical goal to fulfill by the end of the year. Beginners can set out to perfect a particular piece. Those with a bit more experience can set a goal
