Fall is full of cooler days and brightly colored leavesseems like a reward for the heat and suffering we have endured because of climate change. I have always thought that the turn from summer to fall felt like the beginning of a holiday.Istarted thinking about where I got this idea from and I recalled a verse in the bible that reads, “... to everything there’s a season and a purpose under Heaven…”

“We know that at a time of rising prices people are looking for ways to reduce the cost of car ownership, and insurance is one place to start,” said Bob Buckel, vice president, Personal Auto, Erie Insurance.

Recent research suggests that many aging Americans aren’t aware of the full range of options available to them. As we age, our healthcare needs intensify, and experts say that the U.S. healthcare system will need to embrace home healthcare options to meet the demand of an aging population.Thenew national survey, titled “Aging in Place: Assessing Senior’s Understanding of Home Healthcare Options,” conducted by Bredin on behalf of Cross Country Workforce Solutions Group, shows that while most people aged 50-79 years old would prefer at-home care as they age, 91% of respondents have not proactively researched the care they may need as they grow older. Further, 34% have not thought about their care needs, and awareness of existing managed-athome care programs was low among the survey respondents.

“By living at home, seniors can maintain their independence and be close to their loved ones and community, and by and large, that is what they want to do. Athome care can both meet the needs of those requiring long-term care, while alleviating some of the mounting challenges faced by hospitals and healthcare systems,” says Pamela Jung, president of Cross Country Workforce Solutions Group, a division of Cross Country Healthcare, the nation’s leading provider

• Leave no stone unturned: From transportation to medical appointments to help with household tasks, consider what your potential needs might be and research programs in your community to address them. While there are assistance programs available to help seniors age with dignity, the Cross Country Workforce Solutions Group survey found that the majority of older Americans are unaware of an important one: Programs of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE), a national program of comprehensive care for adults age 55 and over who would prefer to remain living at home rather than in a nursing facility. In some communities, PACE is known as Living Independently for the Elderly (LIFE). These programs can make living at home a safer and more affordable option than institutionalized care.

5 Ways to Save at a Time of Higher Gas Prices and Rising Inflation

While the future of inflation rates and gas prices is uncertain, the good news is there are creative ways to lower the cost of owning your car so you can enjoy the road.

2. Scan local gas stations for the best price and consider becoming a rewards member at grocery stores that offer fuel perks. Certain gas brands have rewards programs as well, many of which you can access via smartphone apps.

If you haven’t spent time considering what your healthcare needs will be in the years or even decades from now, you’re not alone.

(StatePoint) With higher gas prices and rising inflation putting pressure on finances, drivers are looking for ways to save on the cost of car ownership. On average, it costs between $15,000- $24,000 to own a car over a five-year period, including fuel, maintenance, insurance, repairs, financing and state fees. While some of those costs are beyond your control, here are five things you can do to lower the cost of car ownership:

1. When shopping for a vehicle, compare prices at multiple dealerships and research factors that will influence the cost of owning a particular model car, such as its fuel efficiency, along with the estimated cost of repairs and parts replacements down the line.

3. Consider setting up a savings account for car-related expenses. Earmarking some of your income for automotive needs will help ensure you can cover expected and unexpected costs.4.Drive safely and more consciously to conserve fuel. gradually, and reading the road ahead can improve the fuel economy of your vehicle by 15%-30% at highway speeds and 10%-40% in stop-and-go traffic.”

• Consider your budget: While the average senior collects just $18,000 annually in social security, 57% of survey respondents have not considered the budget they will need for aged care services and support. Take time to learn how much various aspects of care will cost, factoring in standard living expenses.

“This program has provided me with the best caregiver. She is a great person with a great heart, and she goes above and beyond during my home care services,” says Luther Bell, PACE participant. “I feel like I have improved a lot in many ways because my caregiver meal preps for me, provides quality care, and our daily interactions bring positivity to my life.”

ANSWER:Recurring bladder infections plague many women. They have to do with female anatomy. The female urethra — the tube that drains the bladder — is much shorter than the male urethra, and it opens to the outside world in a place where there is luxuriant bacterial growth. Bacteria can ascend up the urethra to the bladder with ease. Sexual relations contribute to the problem because contact massages bacteria into the urethra. Some steps should be taken. One is a culture of your urine to see if this is the same recurring bacterium and to determine its sensitivity to antibiotics. You might have a resistant germ, one that no longer completely responds to Cipro or the other medicines you have taken. One way of handling this problem is to stay on a small dose of antibiotic daily or three times a week for a protracted period of time so that eradication of the bacterium takes place.

Finally, Scott recommends designing your garden to awaken your five senses. Here’s how:

Landscape architect Doug Scott of Redeem Your Ground recently visited Dooley in Athens, Ga. to discuss gardening and mental health. Here are some of the insights they shared:

1. Sight: Choose calming colors, or those that bring you joy. The simple sight of a breathtaking array of plants or an arrangement of favorite flowers is bound to give your mental health a boost.

er sense of belonging and a new sense of purpose outside the daily grind.

(StatePoint) Gardening is not only a means for beautifying outdoor spaces and growing delicious foods. According to those who spend significant time in the yard, getting outside can also support your wellbeing.“Gardening is good for the mind, it’s good for the soul and it’s good for the body,” said legendary football coach, Vince Dooley. “I enjoy coming out to garden, and when I finish, I feel like I’ve done something, and I feel good.”

Scott advises designing your garden to reflect how you want to live outside. He typically builds “rooms” connected by meandering paths for resting, unwinding, and feeling restored. However, your outdoor spaces don’t always need to be quiet. They can encourage activity as well. If you enjoy company, create gathering spaces. Or, if you have hobbies that can be done outdoors like exercising, painting or writing, you can set aside areas for them.

3. Hearing: Among the plants and flowers, add fixtures, such as wind chimes and water features, that’ll produce soothing sounds. And with the new habitat you’ve created, you’ll enjoy bird song, too!

4. Touch: From the light, feathery textures of petals to the rough surfaces of bark or bush stems, touch offers a deeper sense of connection to nature.

5. Smell: You may already use aromatherapy indoors. Take this concept outside by growing fragrant flowers and herbs, so you can literally “stop to smell the roses.”Scott and Dooley offer more insights in “Garden Therapy,” a recent episode of “Done-In-A-Weekend Projects,” an original series from lawn care equipment manufacturer, Exmark. Sometimes setting boundaries is direct or indirect. For instance, if my best friend and I have a disagreement and they decide to call me a name, my setting a boundary may be to tell that friend that it is acceptable to call you a name. It may be that the relationship ends, or if you do not correct the behavior, the friend may think it is okay to call you inappropriate names and do it again. Therefore, boundaries are so important. Boundaries are not there to isolate you or demand respect. We can't make people treat us right, but we do decide how long we let them mistreat us.

September 2022 The Community News Flash 7 Boundaries: Red Light, Green Light, STOP!!

When I was little, I use to play this game with my sister and two cousins I grew up with. There was usually a commander, and the other players would start at the same baseline. The goal was for the players to get up to the commander and touch their hands to win and be the next commander. If the commander said, "Green light," then the goal was you could walk fast, run, skip, or whatever to get to the one giving directions. If the commander said, "Yellow light," then the players could only walk, and if the commander said, "Red light," then all the players had to stop. If a player did not stop, then they were out of the game until the next commander was in charge. Each command was important because it let the players know how fast they could go. There were also limitations to specific commands. For example, if the leader said yellow light, then the players could only go so fast. This game made me think about

serious consequences. Apart of all healthy relationships is boundaries. You are probably thinking if the relationship is healthy, do I need boundaries? I believe because boundaries are respected then it makes the relationship healthy.

dictionary, a boundary is something that indicates or fixes a limit or extent. Let me give some practical examples we use every day for boundaries. When you are driving on the road, the lines symbolize if you can pass or must stay in the current lane. This is a boundary. If you own or live on the property, there are boundaries to mark off what belongs to you and your neighbor. Boundaries provide clarity and protection. If someone comes onto land that is not theirs, it is called trespassing, which can lead them to

So, I have a question, what do your boundaries look like? Are others aware of how you expect to be treated? Do you drop your boundaries to please others? Could you be clearer with your boundaries? As I get older, I realize that even with family you must set boundaries. Sometimes we accept certain behaviors because it is family. I want to encourage you to make your boundaries clear and known, and also create boundaries if you do not have them. Boundaries are going to look different based on the type of relationship and the longevity of the relationship. For example, the boundaries you have with a spouse are different from the boundaries you have with your parents or friends. Again, boundaries are there to provide clarity and protection. Not isolation.

Connectivity is more essential today than ever, underscoring the importance of the evolution to 5G. From entertainment and gaming to education, the latest wireless technology can connect you to everything that matters, faster than ever before.

As wireless companies continue to invest in building out their 5G networks, 3G networks will be shut down to make room for this new technology and, ultimately, deliver a vastly superior wireless experience. That’s because there’s a limited supply of available spectrum -- the airwaves that wireless signals use. Wireless companies can take the airwaves once used for 3G and start using them to add more bandwidth to 5G. And more spectrum means better coverage and faster speeds for consumers.Ifyouhave a phone that still relies on 3G, your wireless provider will contact you before their planned shutdown, and you’re most likely eligible for a free device upgrade.

It’s not just an excellent way to reduce the amount of trash you send to the landfill, your finished compost can be added to your lawn and garden to help plants thrive without chemical fertilizers. While it sounds simple since time does most of the work, there are some important composting do’s and don’ts to consider. • Rules of thumb: To begin, picture a circle around your plant. You’re imagining its root ball -- the mass of roots and packed-in dirt that help provide plants the necessary nutrients and stability to grow.

For perennials, dig a circle at least three inches out from the plant’s edge. Shrubs are a different story. Instead of digging out from the farthest part of the shrub, first measure the circumference of its stem. For every inch in stem thickness, draw the length from the circle to the stem a foot longer. If your shrub has a 2-inch-thick stem, measure a circle that’s at least 4 feet in diameter (or, a radius of 2 feet from stem to circle).

(StatePoint) Whether your plants could stand a little more sun, a tad more space to grow, or you just want to redesign your backyard, transplanting plants offers them a fresh“Tried-and-truestart. methods will help you safely move your plants; all it takes is some know-how, elbow grease and a shovel,” says Jamie Briggs, director of marketing, Exmark, a leading manufacturer of commercial mowers and equipment for landscape professionals and homeowners.

Now it’s time to dig. Always dig straight down, as digging too shallowly and at an angle can lead to damaged roots, which can stunt growth and ultimately kill your plants.

3. Go low maintenance: According to the Natural Resources Defense Council, Americans consume nearly 3 trillion gallons of water, 200 million gallons of gas, and 70 million pounds of pesticides on their lawns each year. You can reduce your contribution to the problem by swapping out your conventional lawn for a meadow (which is comprised of native plants already adapted to thrive in your region), xeriscaping (a drought-resistant option requiring no mowing and little to no irrigation) or by simply letting your grass grow wild and free. Talk to your neighbors about your decision and encourage them to do the same.

1. Save the lives of birds: Bird populations are in decline due to a range of threats, including habitat loss and climate change. In fact, North America has lost more than one in four birds in the last 50 years, according to the Audubon Society. Amid this alarming trend, you can make the skies safer for birds by mitigating the chance of window strikes, one of the more common threats birds face.

Tried-and-True Tips to Relocate Plants Like a Pro

This is the driving idea behind “Backyard Smart,” free online explainer videos full of facts to answer your most common lawn and garden questions. The following strategies, which come directly from a recent “Backyard Smart” episode, will have you transplanting plants like a pro:

• When to do it: Time of year matters. Perennials should be moved in spring when other flowers are in bloom and the days are cooler. Conversely, shrubs should be relocated in the fall -- the cooler air and warmer soil make for perfect transplanting conditions. Never move plants in summer or winter. Hot weather, when plants need the most water, can kill sensitive roots. Likewise, the cold, hard ground in winter makes it virtually impossible for plants to take root. Always transplant on cloudy, cool days to protect roots from the harsh sun and retain moisture in their soil.

Once you’ve dug up your plants, knock a little dirt loose from the compacted root ball. This enables roots to hang free, and encourages plants to take root in their new home.

(StatePoint) “Think globally, act locally” is a motto that everyone should take to heart. It emphasizes the importance of real actions you can take at home and in your community, while stressing the fact that every creature on planet Earth is connected. With that in mind, here are three great ways to save the planet in your very own backyard this fall:

3 Ways to Save the Planet in YourOwn Backyard

In the United States each year, 350 million or more wild birds are killed when striking windows. Research shows that applying decals that reflect ultraviolent sunlight to your home’s windows can substantially reduce the likelihood of this occurring. Check out the bird decals from WindowAlert, which feature patterns that give the appearance of slightly frosted translucent glass, but glow like a stoplight for birds. The brand also makes WindowAlert UVLiquid, a high-tech liquid that offers even greater protection when applied between decals. Remember, wild birds migrate in fall, making it an especially important season to take this step. From hummingbirds to eagles, learn more about the beautiful birds you love and how to protect them by visiting WindowAlert.com.

2. Start a compost bin: Composting food

• Relocation: Always dig the new holes at the same depth as the existing ones. Planting too deeply can encourage water pooling around the root system, effectively drowning your plants. Planting too shallowly has an opposite, but equally deadly, impact: it exposes the root system to warmer weather and can dry it up. For an even easier reference when transplanting shrubs, the root flare -- the area where the stem expands at the base -- should be partially visible at the soil’s surface. Now fill the remainder of the hole with soil, water generously, rinse and repeat. For more easy-to-understand approaches to making the most of your outdoor spaces, check out the Exmark Backyard Life site at exmark.com/backyard.Nowgetoutsideand get moving -- your plants will thank you for it!

By making your little patch of land a safe haven for animals and by conserving natural resources, you can help make a difference at home this fall.

There are significant efficiencies, ranging from reduced personnel and drastically reduced inspection time, that arise from the ability to inspect infrastructure, equipment, structures, land areas, and job sites using only a drone and a pilot that are hundreds or even thousands of miles apart.

on the military battlefield, drones are playing increasingly pivotal roles in providing crucial real-time intelligence and reconnaissance data that allow for tactical advantages. Pre-mission mapping, target surveillance, and battle damage assessment are just some of the benefits provided by drones on the battlefield without additional risk to human soldiers.

Another innovation? The possibility of operating four drones on a single controller to provide actionable footage immediately.

More industries are catching on to the technology’s potential to speed up protocol, offer safer working conditions, and provide fewer disruptions. To meet this rising demand, there are 865,505 drones registered in the United States and counting and 280,418 certified remote pilots, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
