Asia Rainey & the Spoken Word This is for every unspoken word For the cacophony of life I've heard Beneath the reverb of what we hide The other side of empty and the antithesis of suicide This is for the yen within me This is poetry. From "The Why in the What" By Asia Rainey By Angela Rogalski In the poem above, writer, artist, vocalist, and educator, Asia Rainey, writes, "This is for every unspoken word." That first line in this stanza of her poem expresses her art form perfectly. She performs, writes and teaches Spoken Word for all of those thoughts and feeling that have never been vocally iterated by people from all walks of life. Rainey was born and raised in the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans, a section of The Big Easy that, by her own admission, survived Hurricane Katrina, but barely. see RAINEY pg 4

Mullins spreads the Word through his own words By Lucy Weber Teddy Lynn Mullins uses his own words to share Bible studies and stories with Christian morals. "I want to glorify God with the gift he has given me," he said. Writing under the pen name Teddy Lynn Mullins Teddy Lynn, the Burnsville resident started his first blog in 2017 and has since added a second blog, written one book and is finishing his second book. Mullins has been writing poems and songs his entire life but added the first blog as a way of sharing his Christian beliefs with the world. "I'm not really a good speaker so I decided to express myself through the written word. I read some blogs and decided I could do that to reach people instead of going door to door," he said. "I started the blog as a Bible study and put them out there for people to read. I want people who don't know Jesus to know Christ and realize we need to get to know God and come to a closer relationship." His Bible studies, which he started writing in 1999, are published on his site, discoverbibletruth.blogspot.com. Mullins said the first blog has been viewed over 15,000 times. When he temporarily ran out of Bible studies, he started writing stories about his childhood that he ties into moral lessons. Those can be found on teddylynn.blogspot.com. His first book, "The Journey to Heaven" is a collection of blog posts and is available on Amazon as a paperback and for Kindles. His second book, as yet untitled, is expected out on Amazon by Christmas and is a collection of short stories about his childhood. Mullins said he never gets writer's block. "I've got a list of ideas. I could write forever, and all my ideas go into my blog or the books. When I get an idea, I'll write it see MULLINS pg 4
