Basketball has always held a special place in my heart. There’s something powerful about watching five individuals with different skill sets come together with one common goal: to win. The beauty of the game is not just in the scoring or the highlight plays— it’s in the structure. Each player on the court has a specific role, and when they fulfill their responsibilities, the team operates at its peak performance.

A basketball team consists of five positions, each with its responsibility.

The point guard serves as the floor leader, directing the offense and setting the pace.

The shooting guard frequently

serves as the team's primary scorer, consistently seeking opportunities to score. The small forward is versatile, able to contribute in multiple ways depending on what the team needs, such as scoring, rebounding, or playmaking, which allows them to adapt their role based on the game situation. The power forward handles the physical work—rebounding, defending, and battling in the paint. And the center anchors the team, protecting the rim and controlling the area closest to the basket.

Individually, each position is important.

Collectively, they are essential.

But imagine for a moment what would happen if players ignored their roles. If the point guard decided he no longer wanted to facilitate but only shoot, or if the center drifted out of position trying to play like a guard, confusion would set in quickly. The rhythm would be broken.

The unity would be lost.

And ultimately, the team would suffer.

That same principle applies to life—and even more importantly, to the church.

The church is designed with divine order. Every individual has been gifted and placed in a specific role. Some are called to teach and others to serve quietly behind the scenes.

Some are encouragers, lifting others when they feel weak. Others are organizers, making sure everything runs smoothly. And some are leaders, called to guide and shepherd the people.

Each role matters.

In many ways, the pastor serves as the “center” of the church team. Positioned in the middle, the center is often the focal point, helping direct both offense and defense. Likewise, the pastor is the spiritual leader appointed by God to guide the congregation. This is not a position taken lightly—it is one given by divine assignment.

However, challenges often arise when individuals begin to step outside of their assigned roles. Instead of supporting the vision, they attempt to control it, which can lead to confusion and conflict within the team. Instead of working together, they compete for position. And just like in basketball, when too many people are fighting for the same spot, the entire team loses its effectiveness.

Harmony is replaced with confusion. Progress is replaced with friction.

That’s why it is so important to know your role—and embrace it.

There is strength in understanding where you fit and in functioning faithfully in that space. When you support leadership,

contribute your gifts, and operate as a team player, the church moves forward with purpose and power.

Great things begin to happen when unity is present.

But if you discover yourself constantly in conflict with leadership, always resisting direction, and unwilling to function within the structure, it may be time for some honest reflection. In basketball, players who can't adapt are often traded to help them thrive.

Before making any move, however, it is wise to consult the true Owner of the team—God Himself.

Ask Him to search your heart. Ask Him to reveal whether you are truly operating in the role. He has given you this role, or have

pride and personal desire taken the lead instead?

When every believer humbly accepts their position and works together in unity, the church becomes more than just a gathering—it becomes a championship team for the Kingdom of God. So today, take a moment to reflect and ask yourself a simple but powerful question: Am I helping the team win… or am I fighting for the ball?

Play your role. Support the team. And watch what God can do when everyone works together the way He intended.

Take Extra Measures to Help Prevent Check Fraud

(StatePoint) The use of checks may be declining, but check crimes are actually on the rise due to new, creative criminal schemes. Once a check is stolen, it can be altered or signed on your behalf to withdraw money from your account, and there are online marketplaces where criminals will sell

stolen checks for other criminals to use for fraud.

Luckily, there are steps you can take to protect yourself: • Pay Digitally. Reduce the number of checks you send and utilize card or digital payment methods instead. Consider using

check fraud prevention services like Positive Pay, if available at your financial institution.

• Go to the Post Office. If you must mail a check, use the secure mailbox inside a USPS facility or hand the envelope over to a postal worker who can mail it for you.

• Follow Up. If you mail a check, confirm with the payee that they received it.

• Monitor Accounts. Set up account alerts and review statements regularly. Most banks will provide an option for an image of each check to be viewable on statements. Crossreference this image to ensure that the check processed is identical to the one you wrote.

• Report Quickly. Approximately 50% of stolen check images are posted online for sale within eight days of theft. Criminals act fast, and you need to act fast, too, to stop them in their tracks. As soon as you identify an account or payment anomaly, notify your bank to put a stop payment on the check and a freeze on your account. File a police report and submit a separate report with the Federal Trade Commission. Keep a record of all conversations, reports and correspondence in case later problems arise.

Methods of fraud continue to evolve, and a simple check can be used in a variety of

ways to commit theft. For instance, criminals can create fraudulent checks using your account information and sign your name. Or they could copy down your account information and use it for fraudulent purposes digitally or otherwise. Mail theft-related check fraud – where a check is stolen while enroute – accounts for hundreds of millions of dollars in attempted theft annually.

Here are some of the most common fraud methods used: Account Theft. Checks are used to steal account information details to either steal money directly or fraudulently open additional accounts.

Forgery. Criminals have long forged the legitimate signature or altered the payee or amount on a check. However, artificial intelligence (AI) is making it easier than ever to do so with accuracy.

Check Washing. Criminals “wash” a check, using chemicals like acetone or bleach to erase the payee and amount, then rewrite the check to themselves for their amount of choice.

Counterfeits. Criminals create entirely fake checks that look real using stolen account information.

Money Study Reveals Consumers are Redefining the American Dream

(StatePoint) Sponsored Advertising Content. A new study exploring the relationship between Americans and their money, reveals how emerging technologies and shifting attitudes are changing money habits.

The 2026 Wells Fargo Money Study, now in its third year, explores how Americans are thinking, feeling and taking action with their money. The findings reveal consumers are adopting new strategies, looking to have greater confidence when making financial decisions, and being more thoughtful about their spending. Here are some of the report’s top findings: Defining the American Dream Americans, especially younger generations, view entrepreneurship as a pathway to autonomy. The majority of adults polled, 61%, say owning a business is part of the American Dream. Even more, 69% of Gen Z adults, share that belief.

Of those who don’t own a business, 74% of Gen Z adults and 58% of Millennials want to someday, with the majority saying that doing so would allow them to control their own destiny. That control though comes with some downside. A majority

of business owners report using personal savings, personal credit or home equity to fund their business.

“The desire to own a business reflects a growing belief that success is defined on one’s own terms. While entrepreneurship can offer freedom and flexibility, it also comes with financial risk, which is why preparation, resilience, and informed decision?making matter more than ever,” said Emily Irwin, head of Private Wealth Planning at Wealth & Investment Management.

Gen Z Faces Financial Pressure Forty-six percent of Gen Z respondents describe their financial lives as messy, and many say they are postponing plans such as relocating, getting married, education and career changes. This financial pressure extends beyond young adults themselves, with 64% of parents of the 18-28 set saying their children rely on them financially, whether for money, housing or other support.

At the same time, Gen Z is increasingly turning to nontraditional sources for financial information, such as YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and online communities.

“As young adults lean on both family and nontraditional sources for support, open communication, clear expectations, and shared planning can help families navigate this stage together,” said Irwin.

Using AI for Good, but With Caution A growing number of Americans are eager to try out new technology, like Artificial Intelligence, when managing finances, however experts wonder if respondents know enough to use AI to their advantage.

Nineteen percent of U.S. adults say they have used artificial intelligence in the past year for ideas or education about their money. Among Gen Z adults, that percentage doubles.

Most consumers using AI say they turn to it to better understand potential financial moves, identify new ideas, and weigh risks and rewards. Two?thirds have acted on suggestions generated by AI, and of that subset, 90% say those ideas were profitable or worthwhile.

“Technology can spark ideas and build awareness, but it works best when paired with a solid financial foundation, trusted guidance, and an understanding of how those insights apply to real-life goals,” said Irwin.

Other study findings include a reported increase in savings and investments over the past year, increased intentionality about spending, continued employment concerns, and a widespread appreciation for banking apps and rewards programs.

Helping Families Meet Their Children’s Basic Needs (StatePoint) Greater income allows parents to better meet children’s basic needs, and financial stability can reduce parental stress.

Advocates say that child tax credits (CTCs) provide one avenue for states to increase family resources and are encouraged by progress being made by Washington, D.C. and states around the country.

Studies show that credits like child tax credits have big benefits for families and are linked to improvements in child and maternal health outcomes as well as reduced hunger and poverty. CTCs, which have bipartisan support, help families cover essentials like food, clothing, childcare and transportation. These initiatives -in many cases made in response to the expiration of the expanded federal Child Tax Credit in 2021 -- aim to ease rising costs and improve economic security. Drawing lessons from the federal program, states are implementing practical solutions to help keep families afloat.

“Tax policy is a powerful tool to support and improve childhood outcomes, community well-being, and state economies,” says Amber Wallin, executive director of the State Revenue Alliance. “In fact, refundable tax credits that are focused on families, like a child tax credit, are the most effective public policy for reduc-

ing childhood poverty. And by putting money in the pockets of families who will spend it quickly and locally, child-focused tax credits benefit businesses and the economy too.”

Josh McCabe, director of social policy at the Niskanen Center, notes that CTCs are especially effective at boosting family income, and provide an alternative to traditional social assistance programs like Temporary Assistance for Needy Families.

“The nation’s capital follows several states that created wholly new credits, however, other states have converted existing tax benefits into more modest credits at a lower cost, demonstrating that these programs can help families avoid poverty while remaining affordable to state budgets,” says McCabe.

Community Spotlight: Tiffany Hill Connecting Families to Health and Hope Through WIC In communities across South Mississippi, families are finding hope, support, and healthier futures thanks to the work of dedicated outreach professionals like Tiffany Hill.

Tiffany Hill, as a WIC Outreach Coordinator, is dedicated to ensuring that women, infants, and children receive the necessary nutritional support and education to thrive.

“My name is Tiffany Hill, and I serve as the WIC Outreach Coordinator for South Mississippi,” she shared.

“My role is all about connecting families to the resources WIC offers—from healthy food assistance to nutrition education and referrals to other essential services.”

WIC, which stands for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children, is designed to support pregnant women, new mothers, infants, and children up to age five. Its mission is simple yet powerful: improve health outcomes by providing access to nutritious foods, education, breastfeeding support, and community resources.

For Hill, the work is personal.

“As a single mother, I understand how important support can be,” she said. “WIC helps families during critical times, and being able to connect others to that same support is what motivates me every day.”

Through her role, Hill actively engages with the community—attending events, partnering with schools, clinics,

and organizations, and spreading awareness about WIC services. She works to remove barriers and ensure families know how to access the help available to them.

WIC services are available to pregnant women, postpartum and breastfeeding mothers, as well as infants and children up to age four who meet income and nutritional guidelines. Those enrolled receive access to healthy foods, such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and dairy products. Infant formula is provided through an eWIC card, along with personalized nutrition counseling and education.

Beyond food assistance, WIC provides critical support during pregnancy by offering guidance on healthy eating, connecting mothers to programs like Safe Sleep education, and linking families to additional services such as housing assistance or healthcare resources.

Infants and young children also benefit from regular health monitoring, including growth tracking and iron level checks, along with referrals for immunizations and early screenings. Education plays a central role in the program, equipping families with the knowledge needed to build lifelong healthy habits.

“WIC is more than just food assistance,” Hill explained. “It’s about empowering families with tools and knowledge to live healthier lives.”

Despite its many benefits, misconceptions about WIC still exist. Some believe it is only for very low-income families or that it is difficult to qualify. Hill emphasizes that WIC serves a broad range of families and is designed to supplement—not replace—personal responsibility.

The impact of WIC in the community is undeniable.

Research shows it helps lower infant mortality rates, supports healthy pregnancies, and improves early childhood development. For many families, it also eases the

financial burden of grocery expenses.

Hill recalls one powerful success story from her time as a nutritionist—a 16-year-old expectant mother unsure of what to do next. Through WIC, the young mother received food assistance, education, and connections to additional resources, including childcare and parenting programs.

“Today, she’s in college and doing well,” Hill said.

“That’s the kind of impact WIC can have.”

Challenges such as limited access to healthy foods and transportation barriers remain for many families.

However, WIC continTiffany Hill ues to innovate, offering solutions like free rides to clinic appointments and plans for mobile clinics and online shopping options.

Collaboration is also key. WIC works closely with healthcare providers and community organizations to ensure families receive comprehensive support tailored to their needs.

“What makes WIC different is that it’s not just temporary help,” Hill noted. “It’s about building a foundation for long-term health.”

Through her work, Hill has gained a deeper appreciation for the power of community and compassion.

“I’ve learned that even small support can make a big difference,” she said. “People just want to know that someone cares.”

Pleasant Grove Rienzi Hosts Spring Taco Tuesday for Children

Smiles, laughter, and the delicious smell of tacos filled the air as Pleasant Grove in Rienzi recently hosted a special Spring Taco Tuesday for the children of the church and community.

The event was designed to bring young people together for a time of fun, fellowship, and food as the season of spring begins. Children enjoyed freshly prepared tacos along with other tasty treats while spending time with friends in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Leaders and volunteers at Pleasant Grove believe that creating positive experiences for children is an important part of

helping them grow both socially and spiritually. Events like Taco Tuesday give kids an opportunity to gather in a safe and encouraging environment where they can laugh, share a meal, and build meaningful connections.

Throughout the day, the children were evidently enjoying their food, engaging in conversations with friends, and simply being themselves. The excitement on their faces made it clear that the event was a big hit.

Church members worked together to prepare the food and make sure each child felt welcome and appreciated. Their efforts helped create a memorable evening that many of the

young attendees will likely look forward to again.

Pleasant Grove continues to find creative ways to engage and uplift the youth in their community. Spring Taco Tuesday was just one example of how the church is committed to pouring into the next generation with love, fellowship, and a little fun along the way.

Events like such a celebration remind us that sometimes the simplest gatherings—sharing a meal, laughter, and time together—can create some of the most meaningful moments for our children.

Luscious Lunches Are you sick of sandwiches, chips and baby carrots? The healthy and resourceful ideas below can spice up your lunchbox, require minimal preparation time and will help you look forward to your noon meal again.

Pasta Noodles Cook up a batch of noodles the night before and store them in the refrigerator, or use leftover pasta noodles, and you have the beginnings of a tasty cold salad for lunch. Fill one-half of a bowlsized portable container with cold noodles. Add bite-sized cooked meats or fish, or throw in some beans or nuts. Chop a tomato, some mushrooms, peas, black olives, onions, spinach, celery, carrots, asparagus -- anything you

find appealing and have on hand.

Grapes, raisins, strawberries and apples can be added, too. For more flavor, add cheese, an herb blend, some light mayonnaise, olive oil and lemon juice, or your favorite dressing.

Rice Rice is a healthful and filling grain. Choose brown rice to add the health benefits of whole grain to your meal. Line a tortilla, lettuce or cabbage leaf, or a sheet of nori (seaweed) with cold, cooked rice. Then add your favorite filling, such as tuna, cheese, nuts, sliced vegetables, citrus fruits or whatever your taste buds dictate!

Add a sauce if you like such as salsa, light sour cream or soy sauce. Roll up your treat and slice it into 1- to 2-inch sections for a noontime treat -- either heated or cold.

Dips Everyone loves dipping foods,

so make your lunch a festive dipping occasion! Pack foods that are long and thin: sliced peppers, carrots or celery; asparagus, beans or pea pods; pretzels, bread sticks or cheese strips; or apple, orange or pear slices. Peanut butter, light cream cheese, yogurt, soy sauce, salsa, tomato sauce and salad dressings make great dips and can quickly be poured into a small container for lunch

on the go. If you have more time, try crafting your own dips.

Canned pumpkin can be blended with light cream cheese with a little maple syrup for a sweet dip.

Chickpeas, garlic, lemon juice and tahini (sesame paste) pureed together make a nice hummus base to which you can add spices for more flavor. Minced garlic, chopped basil, Parmesan cheese and olive oil make a hearty pesto; add ground nuts for more texture.

Don't forget safety! If you're packing your lunch to take with you, keep your foods at a safe, cold temperature. Put your water bottle in the freezer the night before, and pack the bottle close to the perishable foods in your lunch pack. That way you can enjoy ice-cold water with your lunch.

My recipe for Protein-Packed Pasta Salad is a great way to use leftover pasta and vegetables. It's

also an interesting way to incorporate alternative sources of protein into your diet in the form of lentils. It's delicious hot or cold and makes lunch a luscious affair!

PROTEIN-PACKED PASTA SALAD Lentils are often used as a meat substitute throughout North Africa and the Middle and Far East, and provide the protein in this nourishing salad. Lentils come in three main varieties and colors: French brown, Egyptian red and yellow lentils. Lentils are easy to cook, but canned varieties also work well in this salad.

2. While asparagus cools, add orzo to boiling water. Cook according to package directions until al dente, adding peas during the last 2 minutes of cooking.

Rinse under cool water. Drain completely 3. Whisk olive oil, lemon zest and juice, and Garlic & Olive Oil Seasoning in a medium bowl.

Add orzo and peas, asparagus and radish, tossing to coat well.

Optional: Sprinkle with crumbled feta for an extra savory twist.

Serve immediately at room temperature, or cover and refrigerate and serve chilled.

These specialized lenders provide financing to small businesses, organizations and individuals, and are suited to helping new business ideas get off the ground. CDFIs offer such options as term loans, lines of credit, credit cards and real estate financing. Many also provide consulting, coaching, education, connections and financial planning at low or no cost.

Certified by the U.S. Treasury, CDFIs raise low-cost capital through grants and lowinterest funds provided by the government and banks like Wells Fargo. The more than 1,000 CDFIs nationwide collectively

manage over $436 billion. Wells Fargo has a long-standing commitment of supporting CDFIs through philanthropic grants and investments that help extend capital to businesses nationwide.

Is Refinancing Your Home a Smart Move for You? (StatePoint) Refinancing a home can be a smart move – if you time it well and understand the factors involved.

Refinancing means replacing your current mortgage with a new one, and doing so will result in a new rate, term and monthly payment. While refinancing does have some upfront costs, taking this step could improve your financial situation.

Reasons to Refinance Some of the best times to consider refinancing include: • When mortgage rates are lower than the rate of your current mortgage.

Even small differences in mortgage rates can have a big impact on your monthly payment, and the total cost of your loan.

• When your financial situation has improved and you can secure a loan with a shorter term to build equity in your home faster.

• When your adjustablerate mortgage is adjusting upward and you want to convert to a fixed-rate mortgage for the security of consistent payments.
