GC Pride Alliance hosts biannual drag show fundraiser at Buffingtons Katie Futch News Editor The GC Pride Alliance held its biannual drag show fundraiser at Buffington’s this past weekend. This event is one that the greater GC community looks forward to every semester. Tickets sold out three days before the performance, and the proceeds went to the Pride Alliance and the performers.
The host of the drag show was GC mass communications student Jenna Byrd. She started the show by reminding the audience to be courteous of the performers and those surrounding them. She also informed the crowd on how to tip the performers. The queens regularly made their way around the floor and bar of Buffington’s. “Please tip the performers! Tips may be politely handed to the queens,” Byrd said. “Wait for them to ap-
proach and acknowledge you; read body language and do not approach a queen without their consent.” After Bryd’s introduction, the show began. The first performer was Queen Alex Suarez from Athens, GA. She described herself as the butch queen of the South and was certainly the perfect choice for the opening act. After her first performance, Suarez welcomed the crowd and assured them that she would return to the stage during the second act.
The next performer was new to the drag show experience; however, he blew the crowd away with his enthusiastic performance. Remy Brant performed Lou Bega’s Mambo Number 5 and left the crowd in a state of utter excitement. “He is not a ladies’ man, he’s an everyone’s man,” Byrd said. Following Brant was Queen CharSee DRAG | Page 3
POV: you’re the music kid on campus Raleigh Hutchison Arts & Life Editor Every friend group has that person who’s always sending song suggestions, making playlists for gifts and blowing all their money on concerts. That friend who would rather watch a documentary about musicians than a series and has a YouTube suggested page of music creators in the studio. To generalize even more, I bet these kids wear checkered vans and plaid flannels with black jeans. They probably have glasses and leave their hair shaggy. Let me introduce you to “the music kid.” WGUR The Noise, GC’s radio station, is run out of the second floor of Terrel Hall. Microphones emerge from the walls and soundboards buzz with life. GC guard Wesley Simpson throws down a dunk during the Bobcat’s 90-62 dismantling of Eskrine on Saturday, Nov. 13
BOBCAT HOOPS OFF TO HOT START Hayden Flinn Staff Writer The GC men’s basketball team started their season 2-0 after hosting the Tri-Conference Challenge this past weekend. On Friday Nov. 12, the Bobcats took down the Coker Cobras 91-69. They also defeated the Erskine Aces 90-62 the following day. Senior Wesley Simpson led the way for the Bobcats in both games, especially making an all-around impact in their game against Erskine. Simpson constantly made plays all over the floor. He led the team in all major statistical categories with
22 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Simpson spoke on the keys to his success after the Erskine game. “Just trusting myself and knowing that those are things that I can do,” Simpson said. “Also just trusting the guys and knowing that they got my back, and if the lane is open like it was tonight, I’m going to drive on them.” The Bobcats started the Erskine game Saturday with an early lead. Shots were falling for GC at first, but they eventually hit a shooting slump towards the end of the opening half. Luckily for the Bobcats, their defense was phenom-
enal. They held Erskine to only 22 points at halftime. Erskine shot 26.7% from the field, and just 7.1% from 3-point range. Erskine struggled to get open looks in the first half. They had ten turnovers to the Bobcats’ four turnovers. Any open look that Erskine had was shot from the free-throw line, which they struggled with, shooting only 41.7% in the first half. Going into halftime, the Bobcats were up 34-22, and Simpson had 15 of the team’s points. The team shot 40.5% from the field, and only

GC Volleyball secured a senior day victory against Young Harris 3-1 on Saturday, Nov. 13
Many find public speaking a scary experience. In a college enviornment where students give frequent presentations, learning to conquer the fear is key to success.
