Fashions on the Field entrants for the Cobar Miners Race Club Autumn meeting on Saturday were thrilled with the addition of a new Contemporary Lady category which allowed them to throw out all the conventional race wear rules this year. Choosing to go bright and bold were Shannon Arnold, Jade Dillon, Alex Eves, Cassidi Lawrence (who was named the winner), Brytt Moore (runner-up) and Jasey Bruce. Bold and bright feature in the field of race fashions A new category in this year’s Fashions on the Field at the Cobar Miners Race Club Autumn meeting on Saturday definitely brought plenty of colour and interest to the competition.

The entrants in the new Contemporary Lady category brought out their bold and bright colours and prints with candy pinks, oranges, tangerines, lava reds as well as lime and emerald greens all in Saturday’s line-up.

Cassidi Lawrence, who was a stand-out in a red and orange long flowing dress with cut out sleeves and matching stunning headpiece, was sashed as the Contemporary Lady winner with Brytt Moore, in a bespoke Camilla floral and be-jewelled boho outfit, the runner-up.

Classically coordinated from head to toe, Kelly Tomek was the winner of the Classic Lady class with Michelle Green, in winter white boucle, the runner-up.

Leah Le Lievre’s Panama-styled tartan headwear (which she made herself and which matched the skirt she also made) won the Millinery section with Eva Halliger’s coral pink and white fascinator the runner-up.

Scott Robinson’s attention to his accessories helped him to win the Best Dressed Gentleman prize with Baeden Faint the runnerup.

“The annual program aims to provide students and teachers with education and exposure to the Merino industry as well as associated industries such as wool classing and broking, shearing, nutrition, sales and meat processing,” Ms Sutton said.

“Each year, the Dubbo National Ram Sale Association purchases a line of Merino wethers which are then distributed to participating schools to care for and prepare for processing for a period of six months.

“For the competition CHS have secured six wethers to care for.

“The sheep are assessed and scored based on the commercial values of their wool and meat, as well as their estimated five-year earning capability.

“At the conclusion of the program, a percentage of the profits from each animals’ carcass and wool value are returned to each participating school.”

Does Cobar have NSW Farmers set clear eID target an adequate water supply?

Cr Tony Chaplain posed the question of whether or not Cobar has an adequate water supply to cater for an increased demand at Cobar Shire Council’s Ordinary Council Meeting last Thursday.

In light of recent discussions on increasing council’s housing supply to attract and accommodate more doctors and other professionals to town, Cr Chaplain asked would Cobar have the water capacity to service the extra demand the proposed new homes would bring.

Council’s general manager Peter Vlatko said council was fortunate that its water and sewerage systems cater for the town to grow.

“So it wouldn’t be an issue,” Mr Vlatko said.

Butler hears Council concerns

State Member for Barwon was recently invited to address the Alliance of Western Councils in Dubbo.

“Many of the issues we discussed, such as housing, biodiversity offsets, labour shortages, staffing medical and aged care services, water security and funding for roads, were things we were talking about before the election, but now the Emergency Services levy has become a major concern,” Mr Butler said.

“These are all things that I have been discussing with the new government. I have also been talking with the government about greater engagement with regional councils.

“Many new ministers have indicated a willingness to visit regional areas, which can only help with that higher level of engagement, consultation and understanding.

“In Parliament last week I met with ministers to discuss some of the challenges facing regional councils and discussed some possible solutions for things such as road repairs, bus routes and the housing crisis.

“I also moved a notice of motion highlighting the fact that the Local Government Act doesn’t account for regional councils’ financial situation,” he said.

“They have much smaller rate bases and fewer chances to raise revenue than large metropolitan councils, yet they have larger geographical areas to look after.

“Current accounting methods inhibit these councils from maximising service delivery in their communities. I urged the Government to consult with regional councils about this inequity. Despite these circumstances, our bush councils do a fantastic job for their communities,” Mr Butler said.

Slight increase to councillors’ fees Cobar Shire Councillors have voted to slightly increase the fees payable to the mayor and councillors in line with the Local Government Remuneration Tribunal’s recommendation.

In council’s discussion on the matter at last week’s Ordinary Council Meeting, Cr Julie Payne said she would be happy to stay with the current renumeration rate (of $12,400 per annum) and questioned how other councillors felt about not increasing the fees.

Cr Jarrod Marsden told the meeting that council had been through this debate before.

“The government gives you a range of what you can pay a councillor and what you can pay the mayor and we’re usually down the bottom of that range,” Cr Marsden said.

“What happens if you stay where you are without having a small increase every year, and all of a sudden the government comes to you and says this is what you should be paying and then we get a really big jump in our pay and it looks really bad in the public.

“It’s better to have a little increase every year,” he recommended.

Mayor Peter Abbott agreed with Cr Marsden and recalled when he had “moved for the mayor’s salary to be increased considerably more than the councillors” which resulted in a lot of negative feedback.

Councillors voted to increase the Mayor’s annual fee to $28,430 pa (up from $27,060) and councillors fees to $13,030 pa.

Wool Track is still in limbo

At last week’s Ordinary Council Meeting Cr Julie Payne called for an update on The Wool Track funding which was announced by the former State Government prior to the March election.

Council’s general manager Peter Vlatko said council had been advised only that the matter is still sitting with Treasury and awaiting the Minister’s approval.

He said the current government is still working through their budgets to identify what projects they will approve.

PERSONAL AND ADMINISTRATION ASSISTANTS CSA Mine, Cobar, NSW Job Ref: CSA1673 CSA Mine is seeking highly organised and detail-oriented Personal & Administration Assistants to join the team. In these roles you will provide essential administrative support to ensure the smooth functioning of daily operations. The ideal candidates should possess exceptional organisational skills, strong communication abilities and the ability to multitask effectively. You will work in a team that is focused on safety, while driving to meet the plan. You will work in one of the world’s most iconic mining districts, which has the second highest grade copper mine in the country.

About the role: • Provide various administrative tasks including managing phone calls, emails and general correspondence • Prepare reports, presentations and documents as required • Coordinate and schedule appointments, meetings and travel arrangements • Assist in end-to-end community events facilitation including organising volunteers and committees, booking venues, arranging vendors and suppliers, etc.

• Raising and approving purchase orders and requisitions in SAP • Coordinate the CSA Recognition and Reward program including collating nominations and issuing rewards The successful applicant will have: • Proven experience as an administrative assistant or in a similar role is preferred • Proficiency in the Microsoft Suite – Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.

• Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively • Strong written and verbal communication skills with an eye for detail and accuracy • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and ability to work well under pressure Conditions This is a residential position and is offered on a 9-day fortnight (5 days on/2 days off, 4 days on/3 days off).

Camels put up a very good fight Despite starting with a player short for their Round 5 Western Plains Rugby Union match against the Nyngan Bogan Bulls on Friday night, the Cobar Camels were however competitive up until the late stages of the game.

The Bulls did eventually finish with a 47-22 win, and Cobar finished the match with just 12 players on the field.

The Camels travelled to Nyngan with 14 men and started with 14 men but were joined 20 minutes into the game by Brandon ‘Chucky’ Jones who drove down after work.

The home side had a full side plus four reserves on the bench.

Despite the loss, the Camels captain/coach Kody Martin was pleased with the efforts of his team and said they were still in with a chance when they only trailed 28-22 with just 15 minutes left to play.

They lost Jack Fazulla who went off after a head knock in the first 20 minutes and Marika Tuilau left the field with a shoulder injury with 10 minutes remaining.

The Camels also lost Josh Bain-Smith midway through the first half when he was redcarded by the referee for arguing with and pushing a linesman.

On the plus side, Number 8 Jayden Harvey had a blinder of a game, continually busting the Nyngan defensive line.

Nyngan had no answer to his size, speed and off-loading ability. (Five-eighth Will Allen and Marika will knock up more tries if they shadow this big fellow!)

Jay Ellison started the match this week at centre and did the job defensively. (He is a classy footballer.)

From halfback Martin kept a cool head and directed and kept focused his depleted numbers to keep them in the match.

Allen also made a number of line breaks during the game and took over the goal kicking duties. He landed two out of three conversions and kicked a penalty goal.

Two one-sided games were played in the local Darts competition last Wednesday night with Golfie Dartaholics dominating Empire Barflies to win 8-3 and RSL also won their match 8-3 over RSL Dingoes.

Five minutes later the Jets crossed again to push their lead out to 18-10 and, just before halftime, they further extended the margin to 24-10 with another converted try.

The Cobar side came out of the sheds at half time with a more committed attitude however they made a number of errors in their rush to make up the deficit.
