Stolen vehicle recovered

A mine vehicle stolen from Nymagee last week has been recovered by officers from the Orana Mid-Western Police District. About 4.40pm on Saturday, Orana MidWestern Police District officers were conducting inquiries in relation to the stolen Toyota Landcruiser, when the vehicle was allegedly been driven towards a police vehicle parked stationary on the side of the Oxley Highway near Collie. The officer took evasive action to avoid a collision, sliding down a nearby embankment. A second police vehicle attempted to stop the Toyota; however, the driver failed to stop as directed, and a police pursuit was then initiated. The Toyota continued through to Armatree Street, Armatree, where it entered a rail corridor and came to a stop. The driver fled on foot over a fence and into a paddock. Following a foot pursuit, an 18-year-old man was arrested and taken to Dubbo Police Station where he was charged with: police pursuit - not stop - drive at speed; drive motor vehicle during disqualification period; possess ammunition without holding licence/ permit/authority; drive conveyance taken without consent of owner; exceed speed > 45 km/h; and predatory driving. The man was ordered to appear at Dubbo Local Court on Sunday, where he was formally refused bail. He was to re-appear at Dubbo Local Court again on Monday to answer the charges.

Brightening up our streets

Local artist Seigrid Peters has recently painted two more electrical boxes in Linsley Street as part of Cobar Shire Council’s Town Beautification program. Sig’s unique artwork adds some colour to the streetscape with her depictions of rural life in Cobar. Her latest works include the ‘Bird Box’ pictured above which features an emu, galahs and a magpie while on the opposite side of the street you’ll see an outback sunset, a verandah scene with an Akubra hat and boots, a kangaroo, a bearded dragon lizard and a Major Mitchell cockatoo. Council has plans to add more colour to the main street with work soon to commence on a mural on the Barton Street side wall of the National Australia Bank building.
