Sullivan’s Mining and Hardware Cobar Branch is doing their bit to keep our community to remain COVID safe by donating hand sanitiser to local schools and community groups.

Cobar branch manager Jamie Allen dropped off 10 cases of sanitiser to Cobar High School on Monday and followed it up with more donations to the Lilliane Brady Village and Cobar Public School.

“We think it’s important that businesses like ours to support the local community,” Mr Allen told The Cobar Weekly.

“You’ll see our name around town on footy jumpers, on the Camels jerseys, at the Rodeo and the races.”

Mr Allen said sponsorship of local sporting clubs and events all helps to build a good community spirit.

Local talent on display as Arts Council hosts exhibition

The number of entries for this year’s exhibition was impressive and the quality and diversity presented the judges with difficult decisions.

The Thellie Wade Trophy for best artwork was awarded to Kylie Harvey for her watercolour ‘Take a Breather’.

Pheonix Webster’s stylized ‘Obssessions’ collection won the Joan Singleton Overall Award and the People’s Choice was Sandi Baker’s ‘Queenlander’ cross-stitch.

Last Thursday, Council held our October Ordinary Council Meeting where there were a lot of discussions on the Truck Wash Development Application approval.

Today, there will be a Far North West Joint Organisation (FNWJO) Meeting.

Unfortunately, the annual Festival of the Miners Ghost will not be held this year due to COVID-19, but please be reminded that ‘A Night to Remember our Lost Miners’ event will be held on Friday in Drummond Park.

Due to current restrictions the maximum attendance for this event is 200 people.

If you wish to attend, I recommend you secure your spot now, as bookings are essential.

Local residents be warned there looks to be another Telstra email scam going around.

Local Men’s Shed’s mateship motto may just be a life saver Local Heinz Goldmann is grateful for the mateship he’s received from being a member of the Copper City Men’s Shed.

It’s that mateship that helped to save his life.

Men’s Sheds are a place to go for men who have spare time on their hands, a place where they can work on community projects, make and restore furniture, fix bikes or lawn mowers, make toys or just pass on their knowledge to other men.

The Men’s Shed movement has also become a powerful tool in addressing men’s health and wellbeing and the mateship that’s developed from men spending time in Men’s Sheds has been an added bonus.

Heinz will be forever grateful for that mateship after he had an accident last week.

Around lunchtime last Thursday the 82 year old decided he would get out and mow his yard.

“I had a fairly big job and I felt good,” Heinz told The Cobar Weekly.

It took him about an hour.

“But instead of having a rest and a drink every now and then, I just kept pushing along,” he said.

Heinz said he ran into trouble when he went to put the mower away in the shed.

“I bent down to pick up the fuel can and Heinz Goldmann is grateful for the mateship of the Copper City Men’s Shed, a mateship sort of keeled over and couldn’t get up,” he that probably helped to save his life. Heinz (at centre) is pictured with his rescuers, said.

Heinz said he tried a few times to pull himGordon Hill and Tony Punzet. self up using a limb on a nearby tree but he just didn’t have the strength.

He lives alone and ended up spending an uncomfortable night outside.

Heinz had landed in the garden on the roots of a tree and a few pieces of timber and while he was lucky to have some shade in the afternoon, he said it did however start to get a bit hot when the sun came over the next morning.

“It wasn’t very comfortable.

“I’ve got a lot of abrasions and skin off.

“The worst part was the mosquitos, I only had a singlet on. I had no way to drink anything. I was starting to feel very dehydrated,” Heinz said.

He was very happy to see his mates from the Men’s Shed, Gordon Hill and Tony Punzet, who turned up at his house around 11am on Friday.

They’d been concerned when Heinz didn’t show up to the shed that morning and he wasn’t answering his phone. They gave him a drink and contacted the ambulance who took Heinz to Cobar Hospital and got him checked out.

“I started to come good after they got some fluids into me,” Heinz said.

Hospital staff were concerned Heinz may have had a heart attack and he was flown to Dubbo for further tests, however the doctors told him they didn’t find any “conclusive evidence” of a heart attack.

“I must have just over done it and dehydrated. I feel silly doing things like that.

“You don’t think when you’re doing it, and then it’s too late.”

Heinz said it’s a lesson for him to be more responsible in future.

Gordon said Heinz’s accident is an important reminder to us all that we need to check up on each other.

Heinz said he’s very grateful that the Copper City Men’s Shed’s motto is: “When somebody doesn’t turn up, we go looking for them.”

CSA puts more kids to work

The third cohort of Cobar High School students in the Pathways 2 Mining Program last week underwent a general induction at the CSA Mine. The group of 10 students will regularly attend the mine over the next few weeks to gain an insight to what it’s like to work at a mine. They will also gain Working at Heights and Working in Confined Spaces certifications. Kubby looking at reducing places

The Kubby House Child Care Centre last night held a Special General Meeting to address some concerns raised by parents regarding a proposed reduction to the operating capacity of the service.

Parents had been advised by staff that they “may need to volunteer to give up a day of care”.

The Kubby House Management Committee called for last night’s meeting to be held primarily so that they could adhere to the constitution, which specifically states that the office bearer roles needed to be filled.

It’s reported that a number of committee members had resigned from the executive over the past few months.

In a letter sent out to families and association members last week, the Management Committee advised they had sought advice from the Department of Education and Community Connections Solutions Australia (CCSA), and also spoke with other external agencies and consultants.

They wanted to ensure that the reduction in capacity would be the most beneficial solution to the current staffing problems facing Kubby House.

The Management Committee stressed that places at Kubby will remain unchanged until the investigation is complete.

In an effort to avoid reducing the number of childcare places available at the centre, the centre is currently recruiting a Diploma Qualified Early Childhood educator.

New Cobar Complex

COMMUNITY CONSULTATION OPPORTUNITY Peak Gold Mines Pty Ltd (PGM) is a wholly owned and operated subsidiary of Aurelia Metals Limited. PGM is proposing to extend its current operations at New Cobar Complex, which is located between three and ten kilometres to the south east of the town of Cobar, by developing new underground operations to include the Great Cobar and Gladstone deposits.

The proposed extension to the operations at the New Cobar Complex is considered to be a State Significant Development, due to the size, economic value and potential impacts associated with mining projects. An environmental impact statement is being prepared to support PGM in complying with the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, which will be submitted to the Department of Planning Industry and Environment in early 2021.

PGM have engaged EMM Consulting Pty Ltd (EMM) to undertake technical studies associated with the environmental impact assessment for the proposed development. These studies include, but are not limited to, air quality, noise, vibration, visual amenity, groundwater, surface water and social impact assessments.

As a part of the social impact assessment being undertaken for the proposed development, we would like to hear from the Cobar community regarding your thoughts on the proposal and are inviting you to contact EMM to provide your feedback.

Funds for footpath Cobar is one of five western area councils who will receive funding to further promote walking and cycling in their communities.

NSW Nationals Upper House MP Sam Farraway last week announced $1.8million in grant funding that will make it easier for the community to get around.

“Active transport is a great way for the local community to get around and this new infrastructure will help to provide safe access for pedestrians and cyclists to schools and other local facilities,” Mr Farraway said.

“These grants from the NSW Government will enable the construction of active transport projects in the Brewarrina Shire, Narrabri Shire, Lachlan Shire, Cobar Shire and Warrumbungle Shire areas.”

Cobar Shire will receive $166,057 to construct a shared path along Bathurst Street linking the TAFE, high school and town centre.

The creation of these shared pathways is part of an investment of around $710million in walking and cycling infrastructure over the next four years that will bring the NSW Government’s total investment to almost $1.1billion – the largest in the state’s history.

Acting Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional Transport and Roads, Paul Toole is happy to see these projects go ahead.

“The NSW Government continues to encourage people to walk and cycle as part of their everyday commute, promoting an active and healthy lifestyle while also helping to relieve congestion on the roads,” Mr Toole said.

Truck wash DA drives more talk

There was a lengthy discussion at last Thursday’s Ordinary Council Meeting regarding the development approval (DA) of a Truck Wash facility.

Cr Peter Yench called for the Truck Wash to be removed from the list of DAs presented by Council’s Director of Planning and Environmental Services, Garry Ryman, to the October meeting.

Mr Ryman explained to councillors the list of local DAs had already been approved under delegated authority to the general manager.

He said the report to council was primarily for receipt and notification.

“The application has been approved and the consent’s been issued,” Mr Ryman advised.

“It was on public exhibition.

“The application was framed that it isn’t to be used for stock trucks because of the proximity to the school, the suitability of the system to discharge to the sewer.

“The application itself specifically excluded it being a Truck Wash for stock vehicles.”

Cr Yench said Cobar needed a Truck Wash for stock vehicles and he was concerned that building another would be “doubling up”.

Acting general manager Kym Miller advised the Truck Wash equipment was already at the council depot and was waiting to be installed.

“It’s pretty much been paid for in line with previous [Council] resolutions,” Mr Miller said.

Cr Bob Sinclair said councillors had already discussed this matter “ad infinitum”. Cr Julie Payne suggested Cr Yench “may have been away” when they had discussed the project.

Yench questions contamination Cr Peter Yench once again called for action to address defects identified with the Water Filtration Plant project at last week’s Ordinary Council Meeting.

Councillors were given an update on infrastructure projects, including the new Water Filtration Plant, at last week’s meeting.

“I keep bringing this up,” Cr Yench admitted of the “contaminated soil issue” that was detected last year on the build site.

In October 2019 Council advised the public that Cobar’s water supply was “totally safe” after tests had revealed “some irregularities” in the gravel fill used onsite.

Cr Yench said he was concerned for the safety of staff working at the plant.

Acting general manager Kym Miller advised councillors at the meeting the “site is completely safe”.

He said it was “basically a contract fight” with the building contractor to sort it out.

“It’s not going to be a quick resolution,” Mr Miller advised.

Cr Yench said he was concerned the matter would become another “bushfire shed situation”... “where the government had to pull it down and come in and build a new one”.

Cr Bob Sinclair said it was his understanding from information given to councillors at their last workshop, that there was only “a slight overburden of copper in the material”.

Cr Sinclair said he didn’t think that would pose “an enormous danger’ to staff and that perhaps the word “contamination” was an exaggeration of the situation.

Craft kits to help beat isolation blues Hay delivered for

Cobar Shire Library is offering DIY art & craft projects with the aim of helping reduce social isolation among our local seniors.

The project has been funded the State Government’s ‘Staying connected and keeping busy’ project.

NSW Government Acting Minister for Seniors Geoff Lee said more than $700,000 in grants have been awarded to 24 organisations across NSW to deliver programs which help reduce social isolation among seniors.

“It is important for seniors to stay at home to protect their health but we want to avoid an epidemic of loneliness as an unintended consequence,” Mr Lee said.

“That is why we welcome these innovative programs which will keep seniors active and connected to their communities from the safe-

ty of their own homes.”

The kits have been put together by library manager Jane Siermans and staff members Emily Ham and Natalia PapierniakWojtowicz who have sourced appropriate activities and made them up ready for pick-up or delivery.

“There are a wide range of activities ranging from macrame to cross-stitch, calligraphy, wooden model kits, leatherwork and even sand art, and all the kits are available for free to eligible Shire residents,” Ms Siermans said.

The program is offered to seniors 65 years and over and to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders 55 years and over.

All you have to do is drop by the library or request a delivery over the phone.

A year of uncertainty and upheaval The Copper City Men’s Shed held their annual general meeting last Friday with Shed Coordinator Gordon Hill reporting the past year had “been a period of uncertainty and upheaval”.

Mr Hill said while members were able to work on community projects and carry out improvements to the shed, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic forced the closure of the shed at the end of March.

He said members however continued to work at home and while the number of completed jobs was down on previous years they were able to still complete a total of 40 task

requests during the 2019/2020 financial year.

Mr Hill reports this involved a total of 3,167 hours of voluntary work by the shed members.

At the meeting Heinz Goldmann was reelected as president of the executive committee, Mr Hill was returned as the group’s secretary and Shed Co-Ordinator and Tony Punzet was re-elected to the treasurer’s role.

Geoff Little stepped up into the vice president’s role, that was previously held by the late Peter Hausler.

“Peter was a foundation member, active worker and supervisor in the Shed and his skills will be greatly missed,” Mr Hill said.

The Lions Club Need for Feed disaster relief team were back in Cobar on Saturday delivering more hay to needy local farmers and further afield in Broken Hill.

While it has rained in lots of places, there are still many areas that have not been lucky enough to be under one of the bigger storms.

While many farmers have a tinge of green there’s no real substance to what is on the ground so they will not be in a position to make their own feed.

Coordinator Graham Cockrell reported the run from Victoria, bringing 470 bales on 11 trucks to Cobar was made possible because of registered COVID Safe business plans with the NSW and Victorian governments.

The Cobar Camels Rugby Club fed and watered the visitors while they were here on Saturday night.

Rainfall recorded

Cobar recorded 6.6mm of rainfall over the weekend with the wet weather accompanied by cooler temperatures.

Cobar Airport’s total was slightly higher, recording 8.4mm, while Nyngan recorded 10mm, Broken Hill had 17mm, and Bourke had around 3mm, with western areas missing out on the drenching experienced further east.

Last Thursday was the warmest recorded day of the week, reaching a top of 33.4 degrees before the warmest night recorded all month with a low of 20.6.

The rain brought much cooler conditions with Sunday morning dropping to a low of nine before a top of 21.

The forecast for this week is for more mild conditions and come cloudy days.

A top of 25 is forecast today with the slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm in the afternoon.

Tomorrow is expected to start with a low of 11 before a top of 28 degrees, and Friday should start with a low of 15 before warming up to 28, with the slight chance of showers and a thunderstorm.

A partly cloudy day is predicted for Saturday with a low of 13 and a top of 26, while Sunday should reach a top of 29 degrees with a sunny day predicted.

Monday is expected to reach a top of 32.

• If you’re looking to watch a great game of netball this weekend, then head on down to the Ward Oval courts and see the Pumpettes go up against Divas. These two sides are the current leaders of the competition. When they last met in Round 7 back on September 12, the lead changed several times throughout the game with Pumpettes eventually finishing as two point winners. Divas will be looking for revenge when the two sides meet again this Saturday which will give them the upper hand (and the Minor Premiership title) as the competition moves into the semi finals next week.

• Great news for local gym goers this week with the JKM Dynamic Fitness Gym able to get back to their “normal” opening hours following the easing of COVID-19 re-

• Congratulations to former Cobar Health Service staff member Kelly Leonard (now based in Dubbo) who was recently named the Western NSW Local Health District’s Collaborative Staff Member of the Year at their WNSWLHD Living Quality and Safety Awards.

Library assistants are our frontline of customer service for the Cobar Shire & TAFE Library and are passionate about giving back to the community. Duties include issuing and returning all library materials using our computerised library system; troubleshooting technology, receipting money from the public; as well as other general office and clerical duties.

To be successful in this role you will have exceptional customer service skills and the enthusiasm to help our diverse range of public library users with an adaptable approach to tasks and the ability to prioritise and multi-task.

Only twice in 62 years has the Cobar Bowling & Golf Club not been able to hold its annual CD Pretty Cup Men’s Golf Open competition.

Twice this year it has had to be cancelled; once because of the virus and then the threat of rain caused last weekend’s cancellation!

With the forecasts looking bleak for golf and only a few travellers prepared to come, it would have been a poor show if it had gone ahead.

There were nine players out on the course on Wednesday enjoying the best weather of the week.

Max Phillips has probably won 75 per cent of all of the Men’s Golf Wednesday’s competitions this year and last week was no different.

Phillips scored 38 points to beat John Collins on 37, and way back on 34 was the men’s Golf Captain, Peter ‘China’ Brien.

Despite his win, Phillips complained bitterly about his seven shots on the 17th, gaining genuine sympathy from other golfers.

Will Brown was so emotionally affected by the heartfelt birthday wishes from his fellow golfers that it put him off his game and he could only score 27 points.

Jarrod Starr won the Nearest the Pin prize on the 3rd and 7th holes with Brien taking out the 8th. The 11th and 15th were not won.

With no Open on Saturday, the course was still OK to play golf on and 14 players turned up to play a Stableford.

Garry Wilkin finally made it to the winner’s circle this year with a below-par score and he chalked up the magical 40 points to just beat Greg Clark on 39. Jarrod Starr was five shots further back on 34.

In that sort of form Wilkin would have been a threat if the Open had of gone ahead! (NB Max Phillips only had 26 points!)

Nearest the Pin prizes were won by: Peter Lawrence (3rd hole); Chris Gilbert (7th); Alec Fraser (11th); Brian Russ (15th); and the 8th hole was not won.

There was a another field of 14 players for Sunday’s Stableford. It was a much cooler day but that didn’t affect Geoff Rorke, who can perform in any weather.

His win with 38 points confirmed his favouritism for the C Grade trophy if the Open had of gone ahead.

Second place went to Scott Mayne on 36 points and back in third place was the consistent Greg Clark on 35.

Unlikely victory for the Bushies

The Senior Cricket competition was affected by the wet weather on the weekend with two of the three scheduled games having to be abandoned.

The game that did go ahead on Friday night between Bushies and CSA was an absolute nail biter.

Bushies won the toss and elected to bat first.

Tight bowling from CSA and the slow Ward Oval outfield restricted Bushies to 5/104 from their 20 overs.

Stewart Fraser, with 35 not, out top-scored for Bushies with Jade Buckman (21) and Alec Fraser (18) providing support.

In reply, CSA was always on the run rate required and while ever Tarun Bheemireddy and Dwayne De Vries were at the crease, CSA was cruising to a likely victory.

However when De Vries was dismissed for 32 runs the game tightened up, but CSA was still sitting in the box seat.

The game came down to the final over with CSA needing three runs to win.

Alec Fraser had the pressure of bowling the last over with Bheemireddy on strike.

No run was scored off the first ball.

Then on second delivery, Bheemireddy hit the ball down the throat of the midwicket fieldmen to be dismissed for 33 runs.

CSA’s Ram Morla hit a single off the third ball, and CSA still needed one run to tie the match or two runs to win off the final two balls. Fraser bowled two dot balls to give Bushies an unlikely victory as CSA finished with 6/103 from their 20 overs, one run short of a tie and two runs short of a victory.— contributed

Win for Cougars Under 16s team The Castlereagh Cougars Under 16s team recoded a win over the Panaorama Plataypi in Round 3 of the Western Women’s Rugby League competition in Bathurst on Saturday.

The Cougars Under 14s were beaten while their Opens and Under 18s sides were unable to field sides and had to forfeit their games.

This Sunday the Cougars will host the Woodbridge teams at Dunedoo in Round 4 of the competition.

Senior netballers play double header Rounds 12 and 13 of the 2020 Cobar Senior Netball competition were played as a double header fixture on Saturday at the Ward Oval courts.

Seven out of the eight scheduled matches were played while one game resulted in a forfeit, with JKM unable to field a side for their Round 13 game with Hot Shots.

Top of the table team Divas finished with two wins for the day after they recorded a 56-23 victory over Sharpe Shooters in Round 12 and then backed up to beat Real Steel (4721) in the Round 13 twilight game.

Pumpettes also went two from two on Saturday with wins over Real Steel (47-18) in their morning game and then they had an easy 51-8 win over Mid Strength Merinos in their late game.

Gumnuts finished as narrow two goals winners over JKM in Round 12 with the final score 30-28. Gumnuts however didn’t fare as well in Round 13 when they came up against Sharpe Shooters. After a close start to their match, and a difference of only two points at half time, Sharpe Shooters pulled away in the second half to finish with a 37-20 win.

Hot Shots started the day off on the right foot and won their first game against Mid Strength Merinos 60-11.

The standout players were: Stacey Trudgett and Natalie Prisk (Real Steel); Neve Carter (JKM); Jennifer Shepherd (Divas); Stevie Long (Hot Shots); Britt Martin (Sharpe Shooters); Bella Coughlan (Gumnuts); Simone Knight (Pumpettes) and Jane Dickson (Mid Strength Merinos).

Yabbies battle it out to be ‘top dog’ Matt Harland and Bill Fugar battled it out in the pool for the ‘top dog’ status at the Cobar Yabbies Senior Men’s Swimming Club’s competition swim last Tuesday.

They each won two the four events contested with Harland finishing first in the 30 and 100 metres handicapped freestyle swims while Fugar won the 50m and Brace Relay events.

Harland won the 30m swim after finishing within 0.09 seconds of his nominated time and Fugar placed second with 0.31. New swimmer Wade Greenwood hasn’t taken long to settle in and claimed third spot with a time of 0.44 seconds off his nominated time.

Fugar only just pipped Harland for the 50m win with Fugar 0.09 seconds off his time while Harland was 0.10. Further back in third place was van Breugel on 0.35.

Fugar teamed up with another ‘newbie’ Rhys Lloyd to win the Brace Relay (dizzy stroke across the pool). They finished within 0.14 seconds of their combined nominated time. Bob Clark and Powell (0.59) were second and Fugar (doubling up with Swainston) also claimed third place with 2.16.

The Fours final goes down to final bowl to find a winner The Golfie Bowls Fours Championship final on Sunday was a cracker of a game with Gerard Livingston, Tony Brown, Bian Smith and Peter ‘China’ Brien wining the title on the final bowl of the match.

They outdid Kyle Roberts, Don Roberts, Shane Carter and Scott Toomey in a thriller of a close game.

Leading by a shot with an end to play, Livingston and Co looked the goods when they were up by two with two bowls left to be played.

Kyle Roberts was next up to bowl and produced a beauty which knocked out Smith’s shot bowl to give his side a two shot advantage.

Livingston then delivered the killer bowl while also getting his revenge. (Kyle Roberts had defeated Livingston 31-21 on Friday to progress to the Singles Championship finals.)

Whacking at least six bowls (or it could have only been one), Livingston knocked out Kyle Roberts’ bowl to win the shot and take out the championship title.

It was a great win in a game that displayed wonderful sportsmanship.

Social bowls was played alongside the Fours championship game on Sunday with John Daly and Barry Bargwanna finishing as winners with a score of +8.

Later that afternoon Daniel Holt and Dean McLeod defeated Tony Brown and Bian Smith in a fairly dominant display winning their Pairs game 20-13.

Kriz lands a hole-in-one in Ladies Golf competition

Narelle Kriz scored a hole-in-one during the Ladies Golf Par game on Saturday. It’s been seven years since the last hole-in-one was recorded by a Cobar lady golfer on the Cobar course. ▪ Photo contributed

Every golfer dreams of one day having an elusive hole-in-one and that dream came true for Narelle Kriz on the 15th hole in the Ladies Golf competition on Saturday.

The late cancellation of the Men’s Epiroc Open event allowed all golfers back on the course and so the ladies held a Par game.

Kriz and her two playing partners at first thought her ball had run through the green but, after having a look around and then back tracking, they found her ball nestled in the bottom of the cup. Cheers could be heard all over the course and celebrations continued back at the ‘19th’ for quite a while after.

It’s been a long time since a lady golfer has been fortunate in scoring a hole-in-one with Barb Barklimore the last to record an ace seven years ago on that same hole.

Marlene Wynd ended up the winner of the day with a score of +3 continuing her good form. The runner-up was Glenda Peebles over Wan Sipatsa after each had +1 while Sally Bannister was the next best after she finished the day with an even card.

The Nearest the Pin prize on the 8th hole went to Sipatsa (for A Grade), Wynd (B Grade) and Sue Phillips was the winner in C Grade.

Jannine Wilkin was Sunday’s Stroke winner with a score of 71 net.

She also collected the B Grade putting prize with 25 putts over the 18 holes. In second place

was Marlene Wynd (73 net) followed by Susie Hardwick and Geraldine Francisco (76 net each) and Fay Hardwick on 77 net. Geraldine Francisco was the best with the short stick for A Grade (26 putts) and Sue Phillips had 29 putts, the best in C Grade.

Fay Hardwick’s 39 points secured her the win in Wednesday’s stableford game. Susan Goonrey was the runner-up with 37 points, Ann Dunn was third with 36 points while Jannine Wilkin placed fourth on a countback from Geraldine Francisco after both had 35 points.

The winners of the Nearest the Pin prizes on the 7th hole were Sally Bannister (A), Marlene Wynd (B) and Pat Polack in C Grade.

A Stableford game is scheduled for today, a Stroke game will be played on Saturday and a three person Ambrose is set down for Sunday (select own partners).—T’d Off

Staying in Touch There were some close games played in both the Seniors and Juniors Touch games at Ward Oval last Thursday.

In the Seniors competition Stingers just got the better of Blue Heelers to win 8-6.

Standout players in this match were Jordan Warren, Tadgh McMullen and Axel Fairfull.

The Mighty Red Roosters had the edge over Green Machine to win 8-5 in what was an entertaining game.

Best on the field were Elias Aumua, Jaxon Burke and Ava Fullagar.

Carrot Chew finished as 4-3 winners over Blueys with Billy George, Rowdy Barton and Zara Patterson all having great games.

There was also only one point the difference in the other juniors game with Red winning 6-5 over the Electric Eels.

Nate Martin, George McDonald and Rhylee Patterson were the standouts of the game.

Junior Touch competition coordinator Lisa Travis said the kids have already shown great improvement after only playing two games.

“What we are most impressed with is their willingness to get in and have a go and include all team members,” Lisa said.

“The Senior teams are focusing on their dump and drive plays which have resulted in quality tries across all teams.”

She said the players are fortunate to have been able to get some quality coaching tips from local ex players keen to be involved.

“It’s great to see so many kids and parents back down at Ward Oval enjoying touch.”

Roosters celebrate one of their best seasons Sitting out the 2020 rugby league season was never an option for the Cobar Roosters according to club president Chris Deighton.

“2020 was a year that was written off all over the world except Western NSW,” Deighton said in his president’s speech at the club’s end of season presentations on Saturday night at Tom Knight Memorial Oval.

“Nothing was going to stop us playing footy in the western region.”

Deighton, who is also the president of the Castlereagh group, praised the efforts of both his committees who worked hard to ensure the season could go ahead.
