Early Christmas Spreading Christmas cheer gift for Council Cobar Shire Council has received more grant funding of $724,190 to realign the sporting fields at Ward Oval. The funding from Round 4 of the Stronger Country Communities Program was targeted at boosting the liveability of communities in regional areas. It aims to provide new or upgraded social and sporting infrastructure or community programs that have strong local support and/ or to deliver enhanced infrastructure and programs that remove barriers to female participation in sport across regional NSW. In line with Council’s communitydeveloped Ward Oval Master Plan, Council applied for funding to realign the current ovals at Ward Oval. Parliamentary Secretary to the Deputy Premier Sam Farraway said projects like these build upon the NSW Government’s vision to help make regional NSW the best place to live, work and visit. He said the additional funding would allow Council to turn the oval into a major sporting precint in Western NSW. “This builds on the NSW Government’s ongoing support of the Cobar Shire through the Stronger Country Community Fund delivering over $2,000,000 in funding from the first four rounds invested right across the Cobar Shire,” Mr Farraway said. Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW Paul Toole said 435 projects across every one of the state’s 93 regional Local Government Areas (LGAs) would receive funding under Round 4 of the Stronger Country Communities Fund.
Laura Barnes, representing Peak Gold Mines/Aurelia Metals as the major sponsor of this year’s Cobar Weekly Christmas Cheer competition (along with Cobar Powerhouse), presented the winners with their prizes of Cobar Quids on Monday.
