Cobar Shire granted another $2.1 million

Cobar Shire Council is to receive $2.1 million from Phase 3 of the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program. The funding, which totals more than $42 million for the Parkes electorate, was announced last week as part of the 2021-2022 Federal Budget. Under the funding guidelines, Council can spend it on making upgrades to parks and sporting facilities, playgrounds and bike paths, or it can be used to make any of our public facilities more accessible. Federal Member for Parkes and Minister for Regional Health, Regional Communications and Local Government Mark Coulton said an additional $1 billion investment in the LRCI program is a vote of confidence in the partnership between the Federal Government and local governments. “A third phase of the LRCI program is a fantastic Budget injection for our hardworking local councils and means they will be able to continue planning and delivering priority local road and infrastructure projects,” Minister Coulton said. He said the additional funding will ensure that the delivery of projects and the creation of jobs will continue in the region. “Providing more time for planning and construction will enable local governments to consider a broader range of priority projects and potentially undertake larger, more complex developments to deliver even greater benefits for their communities,” he said. Artists exhibit in the outback A selection of specially curated artworks drawn from the Outback Arts 10th annual Outback Archies art competition held in 2020, are currently on display at the Cobar Shire Library. The exhibition show-cases artwork by 20 artists from the far-flung corners of regional NSW, stretching from Bourke and as far as Broken Hill. The exhibition also includes works by Young Archies artists. The annual competition and art exhibition was developed in 2011 by Outback Arts as an opportunity for artists living in regional, rural and remote regions to exhibit their work. The competition offers both cash and prizes along with exhibition opportunities at metro galleries. Local Annette Rose is pictured above at the library on Monday looking at some of the major prize winners and the judges favourites pieces.
