More funding will flow into Cobar Shire The benefits of mining continue to be seen in the Cobar community with Round Eight of Resources for Regions set to deliver much -needed new community projects, as part of the NSW Government’s overall funding commitment of $75 million. Parliamentary Secretary to the Deputy Premier Sam Farraway yesterday announced funding of $4,949,942 to deliver the following projects: $4,129,942 for the Cobar Industrial Estate Road and stormwater upgrades – Stage 2; $500,000 for the Cobar Youth & Fitness Centre - upgrades to services and Harry Marshall Gym; $200,000 for Business Case Studies and Master Planning and $120,000 for an Early Intervention Outreach Program. “This funding allows Cobar Shire Council to upgrade the roads and stormwater infrastructure in the current industrial estate, which will impact the productivity of the area and usage for a number of businesses,” Mr Farraway said. “As part of this funding program, Cobar Shire Council will be repositioning the Harry Marshall Gym within the Cobar Youth & Fitness Centre and undertaking refurbishments to the first floor and upgrade of services at the Cobar Youth & Fitness Centre.” Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW Paul Toole said Resources for Regions has already highlighted the importance of the sector to the regions, with Rounds One through to seven delivering 149 projects worth $345 million to mining communities since 2012. “Mining supports tens of thousands of jobs across the state and it will continue to play a role in Western NSW for years to come, which is why we’re investing in the future of mining regions,” Mr Toole said. “The NSW Government is committed to
supporting regional mining towns that supply our state with the precious resources, and I am grateful for Cobar Shire Council for putting forward these projects which will support the ongoing prosperity of the local community.” The Resources for Regions Program is part
of the $2 billion Regional Growth Fund, designed to support growing regional centres, activate local economies and improve services and community infrastructure for regional communities. For more information, go to: www.nsw.gov.au/resourcesforeregions.
