Clinics run with military precision There’s been an excellent response from Cobar residents coming forward to be vaccinated against COVID-19 at this week’s pop-up clinic.

Run by the Western NSW Local Health District in partnership with the Australian Defence Force (ADF), Cobar’s Pop-Up COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic gave out 315 shots of Pfizer and AstraZeneca to residents on Monday and staff were well on their way to meeting their target of 500 more yesterday, by the time we went to print.

The clinic continues today and will run until 2pm.

Pfizer was available for residents in the 12 to 59 years age group and AstraZeneca was offered to those in the 18 to 59 years age bracket.

Anyone 60 years and over was able to receive the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Working with staff from the Cobar Health Service and Cobar Shire Council, the clinics have run like clockwork with the ADF visitors impressed with the warm welcome they’ve received in Cobar.

As of yesterday’s statistics, Cobar was still COVID free and two sewerage tests conducted last week have both returned negative results.

While Cobar would appear to be well placed to come out of lockdown this Friday (when the NSW Government is set to review its Stay At Home orders), it’s concerning that cases are however continuing to be identified in our region.

Monday’s statistics had 27 new cases recorded in the Western Local Health District in Dubbo (18), Bourke (2), Narromine (3),

Walgett (1), Orange (1), Brewarrina (1) and Enngonia (1).

There was also another death recorded in the WNSWLHD. In total, it is the second COVID -19 related death in the District.

There are 21 patients admitted to hospital across the District; five are in ICU.

To date, 344 cases have recovered in the District.

Around the region there are currently 102 cases in Wilcannia, 58 active cases in Bourke, 22 in Enngonia, eight in Walgett, seven in Brewarrina five in Gilgandra, two in Gulargambone and two in Nyngan.

Landholders have welcomed more rain Local landholders reported some good rainfall in and around the shire on Saturday.

Properties in the west and south-west of the shire fared well with the Kleus at Coomeratta, receiving 27mm in their rain gauge, the Sinclairs had 23mm at Berangabah, Bill Rogers at Broadmeadows recorded 19mm and Dianne Noble reports they received 16mm at Karwarn.

The total in town was considerably less with just 8.2mm recorded by the Bureau of Meteorology.

This week’s rain brings Cobar’s total rainfall for 2021 to 319.2mm which, according to the Bureau, is lower than their 2020 figures which show we had 358.8mm by this time last year.

The rain was followed by some very warm

days with the mercury soaring to 31.3 degrees last Thursday while on Friday, the maximum temperature was 28.2.

A drop in temperature overnight had locals waking up to a much cooler day on Saturday when it only reached a top of 16.3 degrees (along with 3.2mm of rain up to 9am).

Sunday was similar with 16.2 the maximum (as well as 5mm of rain up to 9am) on top of some chilly, gusty winds.

Sunny conditions are forecast for the week ahead with a top of 22 expected for today.

A top of 25 degrees is predicted for tomorrow.

Friday should be warm and sunny with 28 degrees the expected top temperature, while Saturday’s predicted maximum is 29 degrees.

Man arrested over failure to comply with health orders

A Cobar man who was found to have continuously breached public health orders was arrested by police.

The 20 year old Cobar man was arrested by police in Morrison Street on Thursday August 26 for failing to comply with NSW public health orders.

Sergeant Chris Power said the man had breached orders on four separate occasions over a period of six days.

Sergeant Power said on each occasion the man was found to not have a reasonable excuse to leave home.

The 20 year old was charged and bail refused. He appeared at Bourke Local Court on August 27 where he was granted conditional bail.

“For the community’s information, you are not permitted to leave home unless you have a reasonable excuse,” Sergeant Power said.

“This includes shopping for essentials such as food, medical, emergencies, work where not able to work from home, child drop off at school or daycare etc.

“People need to be mindful only one person per day from a household is permitted to leave home for these reasons.”

FOMG cancelled

For the second year running, Cobar’s Festival of the Miners Ghost (FOMG) has been cancelled due to COVID restrictions.

Cobar Shire Council’s tourism manager Demi Smith said Council has made the call to cancel the popular annual event yet again.

“With COVID restrictions still pending and the future is still very unknown, we didn’t think we could run the festival in a COVID safe way,” Demi said.

She said all of the ‘Back to Cobar Month’ activities for October have been cancelled.

“About now we should have been booking entertainment, a fireworks display and children’s amusements and contacting food vendors and market stall holders.

“A lot of these would have to travel from out of town, and at this stage that just looks like it can’t happen.

“It would have been a financial investment that we would have lost on. It’s also important that we keep our community safe,” she said.

One of the events however can still go ahead, with the ‘Night for Our Lost Miners’ event to be conducted virtually this year.

More shade for season ahead

A new $60,000 shade sail was installed last week at the Cobar Memorial Swimming Pool. Council’s director of finance and community services, Kym Miller said the shade is a bit larger than they originally planned (each of the four poles on the shade weigh over one tonne each) however with a history of high winds in the area which have previously caused damage to shade sails, Mr Miller said going big was a better option. The shade was installed by local contractor Cynend. The NSW Government has announced an additional $3.9 billion in funding (including $1.5 billion from the Commonwealth) as part of its COVID-19 economic support package.

The package aims to provide ongoing assistance to businesses and individuals affected by current lockdown restrictions across the state.

This additional funding will extend the successful JobSaver program and Micro-business Grant and continue rent relief incentives.

Additional relief for businesses will also be provided with further reductions in payroll tax as well as allowing eligible businesses to defer their payroll tax payments, due from July 2021 through to December 2021, until January 2022 with 12-month interest free repayment plans to be available.

Treasurer Dominic Perrottet said this further $3.9 billion in ongoing support would be vital to help keep businesses in business and people in jobs.

“We are giving businesses, employees and families across the state certainty they can access the financial help needed to get them through,” Mr Perrottet said.

“We know business and communities are doing it tough and this ongoing support will not only help get them through the depths of the pandemic but will also provide them with a springboard to bounce back once restrictions ease.”

As part of the package extension announced last week, the Jobsave program will be extended from August 28.

Other extras to come from the package include the extension of the COVID-19 Microbusiness Grant scheme, an extension of payroll tax deferrals and waivers and the extension of support for commercial, retail, and residential landlords.

A new hardship panel will also assess businesses that do not qualify for COVID-19 grants, on a case-by-case basis.

Drivers reminded to slow down in our school zones Cobar drivers are reminded to slow down and take extra care in school zones, as local schools are still open for families who need it.

Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said while regional NSW is still in lockdown, drivers are reminded to slow down and take extra care when travelling near schools with 40km/h school zones still in place.

“Drivers need to be aware that some students are still going to school, so it’s crucial they remain aware when travelling through school zones to help protect some of our most vulnerable road users,” Mr Toole said.

“To help keep children safe, the NSW Government has made sure every school has at least one set of flashing lights, with additional sets also installed outside many schools with multiple busy entrances.

“We’re also investing an extra $18.5 million to provide 300 new School Crossing Supervisors - with 275 already on the ground, including 65 in regional NSW - offering more protection for children and improved Motorists are reminded to slow down when lights are flashing in a school zone. visibility of crossings for motorists.”

Hello Cobar Shire, My name is Janine Lea-Barrett, and I am running for re-election to the Cobar Shire Council on 4 December 21.

I am an independent and the have held a seat on Cobar Shire Council over the past 5yrs, 2016-21, and if I am successfully elected for the next 3yr term 2021-24, I will be focusing on improvements to our water and power security, facilities in public spaces for Euabalong, Euabalong West, Mt Hope, Nymagee and Cobar, continued improvement in the road network connecting the shire internally and externally, childcare spaces and designated areas for teenagers.

I am concentrating my attention on these options for short-term and long-term answers for existing and future industries.

Cobar region is an isolated area, and this has truly become evident with the lack of COVID cases in the community. Stay safe, take care of each other, reach out to those who are finding this individual isolation hard to cope with, and we will all meet again face to face after this lockdown is done.

CHS students and staff are now singing with the choir Cobar High School has jumped on the virtual choir bandwagon which offers students the opportunity to continue to engage in their music studies in a fun and creative way.

Music teacher Laura Andrew said virtual choirs and ensembles have become very popular during COVID lockdown.

“The virtual choir gives students the opportunity to engage in making music from home in a safe way.

“Students have been getting involved in musical performances prior to lockdown, such as the Miners Memorial Opening and Opera Express, and Lean on Me is another opportunity to show Cobar the talent that is at the school,” Laura said.

To be part of the virtual choir, students can choose to sing-along with the track, play a musical instrument or make their own percussion instrument and tap along.

“It’s really about getting students involved in a way they feel most comfortable.

“We’re also encouraging students who are learning Auslan to learn some of signs in the song, video themselves and send that in too,” she said.

Laura said it was easy for Cobar High students to join the virtual choir.

Funding boost for veteran projects

Projects which shine a light on the important service of our veterans will be boosted by the Anzac Community Grants Program, which is now open for applications.

Minister for Veterans Natalie Ward said the program’s opening coincides with History Week, and would promote awareness of our veterans’ vital contributions.

“We’re looking to support projects which enrich communities and heighten understanding of our veterans’ efforts both past and present,” Mrs Ward said.

“Around 1,200 veterans transition into NSW communities from the Defence Force every year and we remain committed to supporting them after service.

“This is an opportunity to get projects off the ground, at a grassroots level across many communities.”

Applications are open to individuals and not -for-profit organisations, including local government authorities, ex-service organisations, non-government organisations and educational institutions.

Grants cover four categories: local community historical research and education; preservation or display of war memorabilia; public commemorative events, arts and culture; and support to members of the NSW veteran community.

Last year more than 40 projects were selected, including a replica battlefield trench, a digital image gallery of 600 photos, and woodwork to preserve a living memorial.

Grants of up to $2,000 per organisation are available and applications close on Remembrance Day. More information is available at: veterans.nsw.gov.au/commemoration/anzaccommunity-grants-program.

Some helpful advice for home schooling parents and carers As many Cobar parents and carers enter their fourth week of educating their children at home due to the COVID lockdown, some families are developing routines while others are ready to pull their hair out.

In an effort to help, The Cobar Weekly has reached out to some “home school experts” for advice that might help to make the whole process easier.

We spoke to three Cooinda Home School mums, Sarah Theakston, Ness Cavalot and Louise McKervey.

Between them they have 14 children (ranging in ages from 18 to one) all of whom have been educated at home.

While the process each of the three families have elected to use to educate their children is labelled as ‘home schooling’ by the NSW Education Standards Authority (with which they are all registered), all three prefer to use the term ‘home educating’.

Each family has their own way of doing things and each mum also admits to having days when they too could pull their hair out.

Sarah said that’s when you have to realise that what you are doing is not working.

“Change what you are doing.

“These are the days to pull out the board games, go for a walk together, put on an episode of “Horrible Histories” for the kids and make yourself a cuppa.

“Tomorrow is a new day and the work can get done then,” Sarah recommends.

“See this time as a gift, time spent with your kids that you wouldn’t normally get.

“Teach your kids some life skills like how to use the washing machine, play board games together, bake and read together.

“Your kid won’t be behind if they don’t fill in all the paper work,” she said.

Ness said there are days when she sees the school bus drive past their house she thinks how much easier it would be to just put them on it, “but I wouldn’t change it!,” she said “Hang in there and read to them.

“Find books that interest them and read.

“Also have a good stash of chocolate hidden (from the kids) for you on those tough days,” Ness offered.

Louise said there’s not much point trying to teach your kids if you are stressed.

“No one is learning anything.

“And I can imagine trying to do school at home would be very stressful – I don’t know though, I’ve never done it!”

Louise’s philosophy is that play is the highest form of learning, so if you’re stressed, she recommends you let your children play, preferably outside.

As registered home schoolers, the families are not tied to a curriculum, timetables, or set hours and can tailor their teaching to each individual child.

“This is what makes it so fun,” Ness said.

While the Cavalots have set up a dedicated play/school room area in their home, Ness said their kids still end up doing their work on their beds or on the trampoline.

It’s similar at the Theakston house where Sarah has been home educating their children for the past 13 years.

“Getting the kids to sit up is probably what parents are struggling with,” Sarah said.

“We fit our learning into our lifestyle.

“Sometimes the boys are lying on the floor doing maths at 7.30am, sometimes they don’t start till 10.”

At the McKerveys place, they have a mix with a child that stays up late and some early risers among their four children.

“I have one night owl. Isla comes up with the best ideas late at night,” Louise said.

“She does some really cool art then!

“Cora is usually up and doing something around 6am.

“The boys need to be full of 5kg worth of breakfast before their brains start.

“They learn because they want to - and they learn what and when they want to.

“There’s usually no schedule,” Louise said.

All three families report there are multitude of tools and resources available to them in Cobar.

Sarah said her help comes from lots of books, the local library, internet/computer, other people (especially a retired Science teacher) and television documentaries.

“I use bought curriculum for some subjects (e.g. maths, spelling).”

Sarah encouraged any parents who were stuck for ideas to reach out in the community where there are plenty of learning opportunities for your kids and yourself.

“All our kids have learnt music with Judy Toomey [who is now conducting virtual classes] and we have a group (Cooinda) that usually meets weekly [when they aren’t in lockdown] to do a variety of activities.”

Ness said “mess” is her best tool for helping to educate her children.

“Paint, glitter, mud, dress ups, tools, LOTS of books.

“If there is plenty around to interest them they will naturally learn.

“The library is great (especially with deliveries now!) TV, there is some great stuff on telly and documentaries.

“Then you have so much knowledge around too, neighbours, grandparents etc,” Ness added.

Local Cobar Health Service staff joined Australian Defence Force personnel to conduct pop-up COVID vaccination clinics this week at the Cobar Youth & Fitness Centre. More free training during lockdown The NSW Government has recently announced an additional 3,000 training places will be made available to people across NSW to skill up at home during lockdown.

Another 60 short courses are now on offer to study for free including business skills, mental health, marketing, finance and IT skillsets.

Minister for Skills and Tertiary Education Geoff Lee said the courses are an expansion of the 10 free skillsets recently announced by TAFE NSW. “We know there is great demand for training at the moment, which is why we have added additional free courses and more training places so people can come out of lockdown with skills they can take with them into the workplace,” Mr Lee said.

“The free courses are available to anyone across the state who is unable to work due to public health orders.

“We have specifically targeted those LGA’s and suburbs in lockdown and are working with local communities and industry to understand what skills are in demand and where shortages exist.

“There has never been a more crucial time to upskill or reskill through the pandemic and the NSW Government is here to support the people of NSW every step of the way.”

Mr Lee said this isn’t just about upskilling.

“In these difficult times, the opportunities provided by these courses can have a hugely beneficial impact on the well- being of participants.”

Training will be funded through the JobTrainer program, which has already seen more than 120,000 people in NSW skill up since it was announced in October last year.

Keeping mice at the door

With spring now here and the weather warming up, farmers across the Parkes electorate should be on alert for signs of increased mouse activity, with numbers expected to rise again.

Federal Member for Parkes Mark Coulton said with good rainfall and the prospect of a bumper harvest, it makes for perfect conditions for mice.

“Taking action early will be key in keeping numbers down.

“It’s important that farmers get out into the paddocks to look for damage or other signs of mice such as active burrows, and to act at the first signs of activity,” Mr Coulton said.

“The first port of call for impacted farmers is the relevant state authorities, however there are Australian Government initiatives available to provide support.”

The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority can issue emergency use permits to support mouse control, while the Farm Household Allowance is available to affected farmers.

“Farmers can also access tax concessions; primary producers may be able to claim an immediate deduction for capital expenditure on fodder storage assets, such as silos and hay sheds,” he said.

Ag workers can Government defers September sitting now carpool Workers in rural and regional NSW can now carpool to and from work in a COVIDsafe way following an amendment to the NSW Government’s Public Health Orders.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW John Barilaro said living and working in rural and remote areas is very different from city living and due to the tyranny of distance carpooling is often essential to get to and from work.

“Living in regional communities and working in ag industries that underpin them presents a unique set of logistical challenges, including having to travel vast distances,” Mr Barilaro said.

“The NSW Government has taken community feedback onboard and made this COVIDsafe change to help primary industries overcome barriers created by this virus.”

Minister for Agriculture and Minister for Western NSW Adam Marshall said this exemption would help the agricultural industry prepare for worker movement ahead of a predicted record harvest.

“I have heard of abattoir workers, shearers and fruit pickers not being able to get to work as they don’t have a car or a licence, which will have a profound flow-on effect for the agricultural supply chain,” Mr Marshall said.

“This exemption will be of huge benefit to these workers, our sector and the economy, while still promoting public health and safety.”

The exemption applies to rural and regional NSW residents who have not been in Greater Sydney in the previous 14 days.

Workers will also need to have had their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine or be booked in to receive it before this Friday.

To ensure health and safety, employers and employees must: use a vehicle that has been arranged by an employer for the transport of staff to and from home and work; workers must sign in through a Service NSW app when entering the vehicle; wear a face mask at all times; and where practicable, keep windows down and circulate outside air.

NSW Government Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries will not attend the Legislative Council next week, reflecting the NSW Health Orders requiring staff to work from home to minimise the current high risk of transmission of COVID-19.

The decision has divided parliament with some members, including our State Member for Barwon Roy Butler, calling for parliament to be returned.

“For democracy to work, Parliament needs to sit,” Mr Butler said.

“Parliament is how Government is properly held to account, how policies and decisions are challenged – and improved to better suit regional communities.

“The people and business of NSW have suffered immensely from the impacts of decisions taken by the NSW Government in relation to COVID. “With Parliament not sitting, we see frequent city centric decision making, without consideration of regional communities. We then need to mop up the fall out and fix the problems that should not have existed in the first place.

“Decisions are being taken without consultation with regional communities, and often without their elected representatives,” Mr Butler said.

Liberal Party Legislative Council member Damien Tudehope said the action was taken to suspend parliament following discussions with representatives of all political parties of the Legislative Council and NSW Chief Health Officer, Dr Kerry Chant.

He said Dr Chant had noted the “significant risk of transmission of COVID-19 in Parliament House and the risk of seeding in regional

communities when MPs and staff return home” to their various electorates.

While confirming the current risk of transmission of COVID-19, Dr Chant noted the Legislative Council had prepared its own COVID safe plan and that it had to weigh up the current health risks with its other obligations. The President of the Legislative Council determined it is appropriate for the Legislative Council to sit.

“NSW Government Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries are giving priority to the possible risk of transmission across the state and have indicated sittings of the Legislative Council should be deferred,” Mr Tudehope said.

He said the NSW Government’s position has been clear and consistent that all persons in NSW should restrict their movement, particularly at this critical phase in our pandemic response, as advised by the health experts.

“At a time when we’re asking everyone in NSW to make sacrifices to keep us all safe, it is unprincipled and dangerous for politicians to reject the health advice to pursue their own political agenda.”

Mr Tudehope said it is important for community leaders “to set an example”.

Mr Butler has vowed to fight the decision and has agreed to take a Petition to the Legislative Assembly to force the Government to debate why democracy should be suspended.

He said that the option for Parliament to meet virtually is currently being negotiated but that would however require a change to the Parliament constitution.

Mr Butler said the Government is reluctant to do that.

Wednesday golf makes a return

Wednesday golf has kicked off again in the men’s competition with six players on the course last week.

The winner of the day was Barry Doyle on 33 stableford points.

Tom Best picked up second place with 34 stableford points. (NB Best could not win the event because he is still playing off a provisional handicap. ) Nearest to the Pin prizes were won by Greg Clark on the 7th hole, Max Phillips on the 8th and Best on the 15th hole.

A field of 13 optimistic golfers teed-off in an Individual Stableford competition on Saturday only to be disappointed when the rain rolled back in to put an end to golf for the day.

It was much to the dismay of Peter Lawrence who was on his way to a very good score after having 20 stableford points after nine holes.

After speaking to the handicapper, Lawrence will be pleased to know nine holes is enough to get handicapped on.

Sunday brought out sunny conditions for the 18 players in the field contending for the Monthly Medal Stableford prize. Strong winds however caused problems for most of the players.

The exception was veteran Bill Fugar who finished on 36 stableford points.

In second place was Peter Lawrence on 33 stableford points on a countback from Barry Doyle (third) and Mark Fraser finished in 4th spot.

It’s believed Fraser is considering walking the course more often after his improved performance when walking the course on Sunday.

Scott Mayne, with 32 stableford points, picked up 5th place.

Mayne also collected the Nearest the Pin (NTP) prize on the 3rd hole after hitting his tee shot in close to the hole, but it’s reported he then three putted.

Steve Manns picked up the only other NTP prize to be won on the 15th hole.

The Bill Bartlett Memorial Day which was to be held this Saturday, has been postponed until a date yet to be announced.

In this week’s golf program, today’s and Saturday’s games will be Individual Stablefords.

Yabbies hold out hope 50th reunion will still go ahead The Cobar Yabbies Senior Men’s Swimming Club is confident their 50th anniversary celebrations, planned for next month, will still go ahead … in some form or another.

Club secretary Bob Clark said after almost 12 months of research and planning, they are holding off on the State Government’s announcement this Friday to see if lockdown will be extended before they make a final decision on postponing the event.

“Hopefully NSW will be opened up by next month so we can celebrate our 50 years.

“Unfortunately a full reunion appears to be very unlikely, however if this is the case, a reunion will be held during 2022,” Bob said.

“Ex-Yabbies from all states of Australia to-

gether with AIF clubs from Grafton, Twin Towns, Ballina, Coogee, Malabar, Maroubra and clubs from the Western Districts had indicated that they would be joining us.”

Among the special guests planning to attend are the club’s foundation secretary/treasurer Reg Chandler (who turns 80 this month) and former ABC Grandstand radio presenter Gerry Collins (who was a former Dubbo Duck member and competed at the Yabbies’ first ever Cobar Carnival in 1973).

“Hopefully they will still be able to join us,” Bob said.

“Over the 50 years of the club’s history, a total of 752 members have participated in our swims and we were anticipating between 250300 would be attending the reunion.”

Spring weather brings out good fields

Wednesday’s beautiful spring weather last week attracted 13 lady golfers for a Stroke game with Fay Harwick’s 73 net the winning score.

Geraldine Francisco, with 74 net was the runner-up followed by a three-way countback between Pat Polack, Jannine Wilkin and Fran Samios, after all ladies finished the day with 76 net.

Unfortunately Saturday’s weather turned nasty and, although the course was open, lady golfers decided to stay indoors. (Many men golfers probably wished they had done the same after getting drenched with only nine holes played in their Saturday competition.)

Sunday proved to be a better day although the chilly gusty winds and wet greens didn’t help the final scores.

The multiplier winners were Tina Gordon and Robynne Morton with 59 points from a field of 14 players.

In second place on 50 points was the team of Narelle Kriz and Jannine Wilkin while in third spot, Sally Bannister and Geraldine Francisco, finished with 47 points.

As the COVID lockdown restrictions don’t

look like ending anytime soon, formats for this week’s matches have had to be changed.

The postponed P&R Lawrence Day will be played this Sunday but will now be an individual stableford instead of a Four-Ball-Best-Ball game.

Today is a Par round with a Stableford set down for Saturday.—T’d Off

Junior League competition abandoned

The Dubbo & District Junior Rugby League committee last week made the decision to abandon the remainder of their 2021 season.

The committee discussed the viability of completing the season in response to the COVID-19 outbreak across the region, and said they were forced to accept “the heartbreaking reality that DDJRL competition will have to be abandoned”.

“The NSW Government last month extended the lockdown for our area and with numbers still growing it looks like it will continue into the coming weeks/months,” a committee spokesperson said.

In response to the announcement, Cobar Junior Rugby League Club president, Genie McMullen said it was sad news.

“We are disappointed to have the season end abruptly and sad for our U11 and U13 teams

who made it into the finals and were unable to experience finals footy,” Mrs McMullen told The Cobar Weekly.

“We are grateful however to have had the opportunity to play 12 weeks of footy and field seven Roosters teams for the first time.

“It’s been awesome to see the kids grow in skill and confidence and seeing their enjoyment has been the ultimate reward for the efforts of the coaches and the committee,” she said.

Mrs McMullen said the season would however have not gone ahead without the many volunteers who help the club out.

“Planning is currently underway for COVIDsafe presentations.

“We are looking forward to another fantastic season next year,” Mrs McMullen said.

The DDJRL has plans to announce the major award winners of the season via social media.

The Cobar Junior Rugby League Roosters Under 11s team put on a great performance in the Dubbo & District Junior Rugby League (DDJRL) competition this year and made it to the finals along with Cobar’s Under 13s. Both teams however won’t get to play finals after the DDJRL committee decided last week to abandon the 2021 competition.

There have been calls for the 2021 Castlereagh Christie & Hood rugby league competition to also be abandoned.

Adrian Worrell from the Baradine Magpies club said with “no end in sight” for the COVID pandemic, he suggested it was time to “call it quits”.

Worrell also questioned if the Castlereagh finals contingency plan announced last month had properly taken player welfare into account.

“Our teams will have not trained for over two months and the expectation is for them to train for one week and then play?”

Worrell has called for further discussions on the matter.
