Parliamentary Secretary to the Deputy Premier, Sam Farraway MLC, and Cobar’s mayor Peter Abbott officially opened The Great Cobar Museum yesterday with a large number of the community on hand for the special occasion. Previously known as the Great Cobar Heritage Centre (and prior to that it was the administration office of the Great Cobar Copper Mine), the building has been given a $2.4million refurbishment with funding from the NSW Government, the Far North West Joint Organisation and a co-contribution from Cobar Shire Council. While here, Mr Farraway also announced further funding of $1.395 million for Phase 2 work at the site. See Page 2 for further information on the opening.

Made over museum officially open Assistance to help in wake of storms The made over Great Cobar Museum is now officially open and it looks amazing!

A grand opening ceremony was held for the grand old building yesterday with Parliamentary Secretary to the Deputy Premier, Sam Farraway MLC (representing the Deputy Premier Paul Toole and former Deputy Premier John Barilaro) and Cobar’s mayor, Peter Abbott, given the honour of cutting the ribbon.

The building that once housed the administration offices of the Great Cobar Copper Mine has been painstakingly restored as to how it would have looked upon its completion in 1913 while the interior has been fitted out as a modern museum.

The works included weather proofing and preservation of the building, along with new exhibitions inside.

“With $693,791.00 in funding from the NSW Government, I’m so pleased to see The Great Cobar Museum open again along with the region’s new visitor information centre showcasing the very best of Outback NSW,” Mr Farraway said.

He said the fantastic structure will again be home to the town’s Heritage Museum which focuses on Mining, Agriculture and Aboriginal history.

In addition to the NSW Government’s funding, the project received $1,425,000 from the Far North West Joint Organisation and cocontributions from Cobar Shire Council.

The opening was a huge success, allowing the community of Cobar to witness this trans-

formation.

Mayor Abbott praised Council’s small tourism team for their tireless work in making this project and the official opening a great success.

During the opening Mr Farraway also announced Phase 2 of Council’s plans to upgrade the museum have also now been approved for further funding.

Funding of $1.395million from Resources for Regions will see the construction of a new coach house and landscaping in the rear yard.

For two years, museum and Cobar Shire Council staff have worked with builders, various specialist contractors, architects, graphic designers, an exhibition designer, a curatorial consultant, a conservator, and a writing team to produce a beautifully restored building, which itself tells an important story as part of Cobar’s history.

The museum display has been refined and includes a number of objects and photos that have never previously been on display or haven’t been displayed for a number of years.

The original and new features have been colour coded by paint, with the new verandah posts on the south side of the building painted Capsicum red while the original posts on the eastern verandah are painted Meerkat brown.

This theme is also carried throughout the interior along with a copper theme with many copper display surfaces, copper plinths, countertops and copper railings.

Cobar residents are invited to visit the museum for free during the month of December.

Cobar Shire is one of eight local government areas in the Parkes electorate that will be able to access disaster assistance following recent severe storms and flooding.

Federal Member for Parkes Mark Coulton last Friday announced that assistance would be provided through the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

Mr Coulton said the funding will help councils, residents, primary producers, small businesses and community groups recover from the severe weather event and flooding that occurred early last month.

“This will be welcome news for so many people who have been impacted by heavy rainfall and flooding over the past few weeks,” Mr Coulton said.

“Our farmers in particular have been dealt a cruel blow, as hopes of a bumper harvest have sadly been washed away.

“The severe weather has also wreaked havoc on local infrastructure and some homes, and with more rain on the way, the damage bill is expected to rise,” he said.

Assistance from the DRFA includes: Help for people whose homes or belongings have been damaged; support for affected councils to help with the costs of cleaning up and restoring damaged essential public assets; concessional interest rate loans for small businesses, primary producers and non-profit organisations; freight subsidies for primary producers; and grants to eligible non-profit organisations.

First COVID case Cobar has recorded its first positive COVID case with NSW Health confirming the news on Saturday.

Cobar’s Local Emergency Operations Controller, NSW Police Sergeant Chris Power, reports NSW Health is conducting contact tracing and is advising identified close and casual contacts and also venues of concern of their requirements.

As of yesterday, the Empire Hotel was the only venue listed as being of concern.

The Western NSW Local Health District warns anyone who attended the Empire between 4.20pm and 5.30pm last Thursday to monitor for symptoms and get a COVID test and isolate if symptoms develop.

“This positive case is believed to be linked to a cluster in Dubbo and demonstrates the highly transmissible nature of the virus,” Sergeant Power said.

“This is a timely reminder to the community not to become complacent as restrictions ease and continue social distancing, masks and hand hygiene practices.

“If you have any symptoms, even the mildest symptoms I encourage you to get tested.

“Cobar has been in an extremely good position throughout this pandemic and with ongoing community support we can rid Cobar of COVID,” he said.

Up until now Cobar has avoided the virus however a WNSWLHD spokesperson said with movements between communities on the increase, it was only a matter of time before it showed up in Cobar.

“The best protection against transmission, and against serious illness in the event of transmission, is vaccination.

“Practicing COVID-safe behaviours are also important to stopping the spread of COVID19, and everyone has a responsibility to help do that,” WNSWLHD spokesperson said.

“Use QR codes to check in everywhere you go. If there are cases of COVID-19 detected this information is critical for contact tracing and every business or venue must make sure their customers and patrons are checking in, or registering.”

Extra TLC for big fig tree

Cobar’s iconic big fig tree on the corner of Marshall and Linsley streets, reported to be approximately 130 years old, has been given some extra attention of late. A watering system has been installed and a new retaining wall has been built around the tree. Cobar Shire Parks & Gardens staff and contractors have carried out the work after the tree started showing signs of stress due to a lack of water.

When it rains, it pours, with more than 100mm recorded Many areas of NSW have copped another deluge of rain over the past week and a good amount of it also fell in many parts around the Cobar Shire.

It wasn’t however consistent, especially in the north of the shire, with 115mm recorded at Tindarey while 39mm was received in the gauges at nearby Carline Station.

Over at Poon Boon the Boals recorded 56mm in their gauge and next door at Cains (Booroondarra), they recorded 50mm.

Out west Mudgee Maiden received 101mm at Buckanbe and Bob Sinclair at Berangabah in the south west recorded 88mm.

In the east of the shire, Tara Toomey reported receiving 28mm of rain in one gauge and 49mm in another gauge (3km away) on the property at Mildyn Park.

The Kidman Way Highway north of Cobar was closed in both directions on Friday afternoon due to heavy rain.

The highway was eventually reopened around 1.30pm on Saturday to all traffic.

According to Cobar Shire Council’s road condition report all unsealed roads were closed to all traffic and sealed roads were only open with cautions due to localised flooding on Friday.

According to local weather observer and historian John Collins, the previous wettest November in Cobar was in 1911 with 157.8mm, closely followed by 157.1mm in 2000.

Thunderstorms were predicted for yesterday afternoon but the week ahead is expected to be mostly dry and sunny with 30 degrees the expected top for today while the mercury is predicted to hit 34 tomorrow and 35 on Friday.

The warm weather will continue into the weekend with 30 the expected maximum temperature on Saturday while Sunday should be a little cooler with 29 and 26 is the forecast top for Monday.

Farewell Cr Yench The time has come for one of Cobar Shire Council’s longest serving councillors to retire, with Cr Peter Yench soon to be officially farewelled by his fellow councillors and council staff.

A formal presentation was to have been made to Cr Yench at the November Ordinary Council meeting last week however Cr Yench was unable to attend the meeting.

Council’s general manager Peter Vlatko said an official presentation to Cr Yench will be re-scheduled.

Cr Yench has served continuously as a Cobar Shire Councillor for the past 38 years which included two terms as mayor, from 1991 to 1995 and 1999 to 2001.

In his time on Council, Cr Yench has championed many causes, in particular Carbon Farming, the BioHub project and getting a gas pipeline to Cobar.

Over the years he’s also fought for better medical services including bringing more doctors to town and has campaigned for the reinstatement of birthing facilities at Cobar Hospital and lowering the speed limit in the main street.

He opposed the extension of the mining camp, free camping around Cobar and also called for a ban on Fly in/Fly-out workers to mines in NSW, and proposed council reduce the number of elected councillors from 12 to just five.

He has represented Cobar as a Regional Development Australia Orana board member and been a member of the Cobar Water Board and Cobar Tourism Advisory committee.

Iron Ringers scope out a suitable site for monument

A patch of currently unused land adjacent to the Cobar Miners Memorial and opposite The Great Cobar Museum is being investigated as a possible site for an Iron Ringer monument. The Cobar Iron Ringers committee met again last week and are now moving forward with a plan to construct an Iron Ringer monument.

The widely accepted meaning of the title of Iron Ringer is someone who was born in Cobar and was coined by a former eminent Cobar identity, Clarrie Pretty, in the 1960s.

Mr Pretty was a Cobar-minded man who served on countless committees, and was known for his exceptional public speaking skills.

He was held in high esteem by the Cobar community.

At last week’s meeting, the committee unanimously decided the unique term of ‘Iron Ringer’ could only be bestowed on a person who was born in Cobar.

They also decided to form an Iron Ringer Club into which they would also welcome Members of the Iron Ring (people who were not born in Cobar but had lived here for many years or who had made significant contributions to the town).

The committee also floated the idea of an Iron Ring-in, which could be an honorary title that could be given to visitors, including tourists, for a day.

Much discussion was also had around the building of an Iron Ring monument, what it might look like, how funding might be obtained to build it and a suitable location for it.

The meeting concluded with a visit to a proposed site, on the eastern approach to town adjacent to the Cobar Miners Memorial and directly opposite The Great Cobar Museum.

The committee will meet again early next year to further progress their ideas.

CONSULTATIVE COMMITTEE Nominations are open for appointment of community members to the Peak Gold Mines Consultative Committee.

The committee provides an independent forum for open discussion between Peak Gold Mine and local community representatives on information regarding the New Cobar Complex and Peak Complex mining operations.

We are looking for a mix of people who live locally or are members of a community group (e.g. sporting association or local business) to join our committee.

Your role as a committee member is voluntary.

Selection criteria: You will be expected to contribute constructively to committee discussions, attend four meetings a year, and communicate information about the New Cobar Complex and Peak Complex between the committee and the broader community.

Applications must be lodged by Friday December 3, 2021 and sent to the independent chairperson of the Community Consultative Committee.

Drought assistance program offers help Big bucks paid

The Rotary District 9670 has launched a program in the central and western areas of NSW to assist farmers who were affected by drought or who are still recovering from the effects of drought.

Rotary Club of Cobar secretary and Chairperson of the Rotary District 9670 Natural Disasters Relief Committee, Gordon Hill, said the program will offer a $500 debit card to struggling farming families.

Mr Hill said while the card won’t solve farmers’ financial issues, it will let them know that people do care.

“The funding for 200 of the debit cards has been made available by the Federal Government to the Rotary Australia World Community Service Ltd (RAWCS),” Mr Hill said.

“RAWCS in turn have collaborated with local Rotary clubs across Australia to distrib-

ute, initially cash vouchers, and more recently following COVID-19 lockdowns, debit cards to struggling farmers.

“Rotary District 9670, which extends from Newcastle in the east to Cobar in the west, has been involved with the Drought Communities Outreach Program for over 12 months assisting farmers in need within the district through local Rotary clubs.

“The Rotary District Natural Disaster Relief Committee has identified 17 clubs within the Rotary District that have farmers affected by the drought.

“These clubs have been invited to reach out to farmers in their club area and encourage them to apply for the debit card.”

for a big buck

The second annual Red and Black Goat sale in Cobar last week has gone down in the history books as having a record sale for an Australian Buck with Lot 17, Marrakesh, selling for $21,000.

The big buck was purchased by locals, Andrew and Megan Mosely, to join their meat goat enterprise at Etiwanda Station south of Cobar.

The Moselys also bought the top priced buck at last year’s sale which went for $12,000.

Speaking to Andrew after last week’s sale, he said he expected prices would be up this year but admitted he didn’t think it would go that high.

“Prices are high at the moment due to the general strength in the agriculture sector.’

“All the stock prices are pretty strong and the numbers of animals in general are low, so we are not over supplied (sheep, cattle and goats) which always works well in a commodities market,” Andrew said.

He said after losing out to an earlier lot at last week’s sale, they then decided to concentrate their efforts only on Lot 17, Marrakesh, an early maturing, bigger framed buck, which “ticked all their boxes”.

The bidding for Marrakesh moved along quickly and Andrew said he was up against five other keen bidders.

“There were bigger bucks there than him but, for us, he suits what we are trying to do.

“We are not chasing the biggest.

“We look for a quick maturing pattern which reduces your running costs,” he said.

“We are about producing quality animals that suit the environment and he’s got that.

“Goats are highly adapted to the environment we are in, they suit the country.

“It’s profitable,” he said.

“When mum and dad were farming, wool was their only option.

“Now we have multiple options sheep, cattle, goats, and dorpers for example,” he said.

“We’ve been chasing goats for years and when we were kids they were five dollars a head. We used to chase them for pocket money. There’s a big difference now.”

A Red Doe also fetched an Australian record price of $13,500 at last week’s sale.

Mobile vaccination van to pay a visit The Western NSW Local Health District (WNSWLHD) mobile vaccination van ‘Jabba’, will be in Cobar tomorrow offering COVID-19 vaccinations.

The mobile clinic will be parked at the Cobar Health Service and offers first, second or booster doses of Pfizer for Cobar residents 12 years and over.

A spokesperson from the WNSWLHD said anyone aged 12-15 years presenting for a vaccination must be accompanied by their parent, guardian or nominated carer.

“If seeking a second or booster dose, patients are required to bring evidence of their previous dose(s).

“Those attending will need to bring a form of identification and where able, their Medicare card,” the spokesperson said.

It is important that residents must not attend the clinic if they are waiting on a COVID-19 test result (unless this was a surveillance test only and the person is not unwell); are a confirmed close contact of a confirmed positive COVID-19 case; or if they are unwell.

“Anyone with COVID symptoms should get tested and isolate until they receive a negative test result.”

The Cobar Library is inviting locals to support their Christmas Giving Tree promotion and donate a gift for a child or an adult. Library staff will wrap your gift and label it with an age appropriate tag and all presents will be donated to the Barnardos Australia charity to be given to local families in need this Christmas. Test the waters

The NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) is reminding farmers of the importance of testing water quality in tanks, dams, bores and rivers affected by flood water runoff.

NSW DPI EnviroAg Testing Service Coordinator, Sarah Morison, said landholders directly impacted by and in neighbouring catchments to the recent deluge were encouraged to assess the condition of on-farm water.

“After significant periods of rain or flooding, nutrient runoff from surrounding areas, sediment and bacteria can enter water sources and water quality can deteriorate,” said Mrs Morison.

“Without correcting poor water quality, the performance of soil, pastures or crops and the health of livestock can decline to the point of being toxic, resulting in loss of production.

“Most chemical changes to water quality cannot be detected by sight or smell and require laboratory analysis,” she said.

Heavy rain hold up at Bulla Park West Cobar Metals has completed phase one of its drilling program at its Bulla Park project west of Cobar.

Recent heavy rain has however delayed the next phase of drilling to be carried out at the nearby Mount Jack Prospect.

West Cobar CEO David Pascoe said the diamond drilling at Bulla Park confirms their model of stratabound and extensive copper mineralisation.

“The information gained will allow us to determine the program going forward,” Mr Pascoe said.

“The Mount Jack Prospect provides a clear compelling target for a Cobar-style coppergold deposit and it is disappointing that this drill hole has now been delayed due to the heavy rains.”

With dry weather, Mr Pascoe said work will continue in the new year, or earlier if possible.

COVID case in town, the Western NSW Local Health District is doing surveillance testing. They want locals to come forward for a COVID-19 test even if they don’t have any symptoms or even if no-one in your household has any symptoms. •A resident noticed the flags at the Council Chambers were flying at half mast on Friday and inquired with us as to why. We spoke to Julianne Foster at Council who is in charge of raising and lowering the flags each day.

Julianne said as per flag protocol, flying a flag at half mast is a sign of respect and is flown at half mast when there is a death or funeral of a local resident. It also gets flown at half mast on significant days in history such as Anzac Day and Remembrance Day. It was flown at half mast on Friday for Bradley Goonrey’s funeral.

It’s requested that all vehicles that are parked in the main street and the affected area of Linsley Street be removed by 5pm on Friday to facilitate the free-flow of vehicles in the parade, some of which will be large mine vehicles.

News

Year 12 formal celebrations go ahead Year 12 students will be able to attend their end-of-year school celebrations following a year of disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Health Minister Brad Hazzard last week granted an exemption to enable all HSC students to attend their school’s Year 12 formal, dinner, or graduation, regardless of their vaccination status.

“The HSC students of 2021 have had an incredibly tough 18 months, including substantial time without face-to-face teaching, and missing out on seeing friends and family,” Mr Hazzard said.

“They deserve to be able to party with their friends and enjoy one of the biggest celebrations of their life.”

Minister for Education Sarah Mitchell said the exemption gives all Year 12 students an opportunity to celebrate with their friends after their exams.

“I am so happy that all Year 12 students can celebrate with each other at the end of an incredibly turbulent year,” Ms Mitchell said.

“Our Year 12 students have worked so hard and I want to commend them for the resilience they have displayed.”

The exemption means Year 12 students who have not been vaccinated for COVID-19 will be able to celebrate with the rest of their cohort, if they abide by the public health requirements of the venue they’re attending.

The HSC written exams end this Friday and students will receive their ATAR next month.

Cobar Rooster named Castlereagh Player of the Year Cobar’s Thomas Plater has been named the Castlereagh Rugby League Player of the Year.

While the presentation would have normally been done at the grand final, due to the COVID affected season, the awards were presented after the group’s annual general meeting on Sunday.

Baradine’s Billy Carey was awarded the Castlereagh League Youth League Player of the Year and Dunedoo’s Hayley Cox was named as the League Tag Player Of The Year.

In terms of the structure of the executive committee of the Castlereagh Rugby League, little has changed for season 2022 with Chris Deighton (Cobar) remaining as president, along with Peter Hazelton (Gilgandra) and Joe Bellgardt (Coonamble) as the vice presidents and Bryson Luff (Gilgandra) secretary/ treasurer.

The Management Committee will comprise Brendan Phillips (Binnaway), Matt Guan (Dunedoo), Mick Burns (Narromine) and Nicole Hyde (Baradine).

The Warringahs senior Touch team were on fire last Thursday night comprehensively winning both of their matches.

They trounced Kingspan Blue 10-5 and also finished as 8-6 victors over Blue Warriors.

In the other two Senior games, a 3-all draw was played out between Blue Warriors and Green Geckos while Kingspan Blue just got the better of Green Geckos with a narrow 3-2 win.

In the Juniors competition, Red Devils won both of their games.

They beat Bumblebees 5-2 and had another close win, 3-1, over the Orange Blazers.

Bluebottles finished the night with a win and a draw.

In their match against Bumblebees, Bluebottles narrowly finished out on top with a 3-1 win and their match with the Orange Blazers ended in a thrilling 2-all draw.

Clubman award End of season didn’t go as planned The end of the ladies golfing season didn’t quite go to plan when Sunday’s game was changed from a Par 3 game to a Stableford after rain had forced the closure of the course on Saturday.

Numbers were however up for the last game of the year with a little bit of sunshine thrown in the mix.

Tina Gordon finished as the Stableford winner scoring 36 points from the field of 13 players.

Reina Cross gained second spot on a countback from Sally Bannister when both finished the day with 31 points.

Glenda Peebles was next on 30 and Fay Hardwick had 28 and also won the Nearest the Pin prize in A Grade on the 8th hole.

Gordon was closest for B Grade and the C Grade prize went to Cross.

Only six players were on hand for last Wednesday’s Stableford which saw Sally Bannister come away with the win on 35 points.

She also won the A Grade Nearest the Pin prize on the 7th hole.

Ann Dunn was the runner-up on the day with 30 points while Robynne Morton placed third with 28 points. Daphne Cross was nearest to the flag for B Grade.

The Cobar Darts Association held their presentations recently with Tony Brown (Men’s) and Kylie Tiffen (Ladies) the stand -out players of the season.

Brown had the Most 100’s thrown of the season with 35 while Tiffen topped the Ladies Most 100’s thrown with a total of nine.

The Men’s Highest Score of the season was 177 by Daniel Duell while the Ladies Highest Score was 156 thrown by Larissa Johnson.

Craig Jones threw the Most 180’s with two this season while Duell (1) and Tiffen (1 at Cobar Opens) also threw 180s.

Tiffen had the Most Peg Outs for the Ladies

with 27 and Brown, with 41, had the Most Peg Outs for the Men. The Ladies Highest Peg Out was 122 by Johnson and Jones had the Men’s Highest Peg Out of 170.

Most Improved and Encouragement trophies were awarded to—Kayla Olsen, Tyarna Crotty, Kylie Tiffen and Kyle Roberts.

The Overall Best & Fairest trophy was awarded to Tony Brown.

The Club Person of the Year award was shared by Sue Duell and Craig Jones.

Stewart Fraser Nymagee reaches a low point was exceptional The field of 18 golfers found the going pretty tough on Sunday in the final round of the Men’s Golf competition.

Stewart Fraser was the only exception coming in with 37 stableford points followed by Bill Fugar on 34 stableford points.

Peter ‘China’ Brien finished in third place with 30 stableford points on a countback from Max Phillips, also on 30.

Steve Manns snuck into 5th place with 29 stableford points.

All the action was on rink 1 where Barry Bargwanna put on what can only be described as “a bowls master lesson”.

Teaming up with Shane Carter, they were never in doubt against Peter ‘Skeet’ Goonrey and John Daly and they finished with an impressive win of +20.

This reporter’s ears are still ringing after hearing Baz bragging about how many of his blue bowls were in the count.

In the other game, Craig ‘Duck’ Grimmond and Karen Daly were too strong for the combination of Aaron Finn and David Schofield.

Level pegging early on, Kaz and the Duck were never in doubt after the 10th end to easily win by +7.

The ‘George the Giraffe’ award this week had a sex change becoming the ‘Georgette Trophy’ with Kaz Daly experiencing some difficultly in controlling her little Buddha bowls. Some were twice her height away from the jack – a little over two metres in total!

A Pairs Championship game was played on Sunday between Daniel Holt/Dean McLeod and Greg Read/Al Knight and what a great game it was.

Both teams were going shot for shot with the team of Read/Knight pulling away to take a two shot lead with one end to play.

Staring down defeat, Holt/McLeod rallied and put some real pressure on their opponents with the match referee being called in to decide the fate of the match.

The verdict being two shots to Holt/McLeod (and it was only millimetres from a 3rd shot) to take the game to an extra sudden death end.

The final end went to Read/Knight in what was from a spectators point, a sensational game.—No bias intended

It doesn’t happen very often, but there were two ties in the Cobar Yabbies Senior Men’s Swimming Club competition last Tuesday night.

The first of the tied results was recorded in the 50 metres handicapped freestyle event and was for third place with Jason Toomey and Lucas Hardy both swimming to within 0.19 seconds off their nominated times.

The second tie was for first place in the Brace Relay novelty event, which was a Dolphin dive across the pool.

The team of Murray Harland and Bill Fugar finished within 2.50 seconds of their nominated time to tie with Chris Powell and a new member, Matt Robertson.

In other results from the night, Thomas Jones won the opening event, the 30m handicapped freestyle swim after finishing within 0.10 seconds of his nominated time.

Bill Fugar with 0.28 was second and Tyler Roberts finished third with 0.41.

Paul Swainston won the 50m event finishing within 0.19 of his nominated time.

Powell was second with 0.16 and Toomey and Hardy couldn’t be split for third place.

Toomey finished first in the 100m with 0.15 seconds off his nominated time while Dave Mexted placed second with 0.71 and Harland was third on 1.25.

Narromine Jets join Castlereagh

Camels celebrate the 2021 season The Cobar Camels Rugby Union Club held their end of season presentation night on Saturday at the Empire Hotel.

In the First Grade competition Jay Ellison was named Best Back, Sam Jeffery - Best Forward, Kody Martin - Most Consistent and Jacob Christie and Mitch Dunne shared the Best and Fairest award.

The Rookie of the Year was also a shared award between Jayden Harvey and Jarrod Blake.

In the Bactrians women’s competition, the award winners were: Tori Thomas - Most Improved, Catherine Bolam - Most Consistent, Nichola Heagney - Players’ Player, Bethany Smith - Rookie of the Year, Madasan Taylor and Sally Schintler shared the Best and Fairest award and Sally was also the season’s Top Try Scorer.

One of the club’s most dedicated committee members, Cairo Haronga, was named the Clubman of the Year.

The Narromine Jets have landed themselves in the Castlereagh Rugby League competition having been unanimously voted in by the nine existing clubs at the League’s annual general meeting on Sunday.

The Jets will become the 10th club in the vast Castlereagh League competition with their entry sure to generate much interest throughout the Group in the season ahead.

Castlereagh Group returning president Chris Deighton, welcomed the red and whites to the competition.

“Obviously Castlereagh League is doing something right in terms of providing footy for our communities,” Deighton said.

“We are not a ‘cheque book’ competition and we thrive on having players, clubs, sponsors and supporters who just want to have local rugby league in their town.

“The way our competition is run makes it viable for small communities to have teams and continue to do so.

“We look forward to the Narromine Jets becoming a valued member of the Castlereagh community,” he said.

Following the inclusion of the Jets, lengthy discussion took place in regards to the structure of the 2022 Castlereagh competition with the consensus being that an 18 round home and away competition, followed by a five team semi final series would draw out the season too far.

Consequently a 14 round competition draw was adopted with the competition set to kick off at the end of April.
