Restrictions eased further
With NSW reaching the 80 per cent mark for COVID vaccinations quicker than expected, a number of restrictions have eased this week for the fully vaccinated. Community sport can resume, more friends and family will be able to be reunited (with 20 visitors now allowed in your home and up to 50 people outdoors) and there will no longer be a cap on guests at weddings and funerals. Masks will also no longer be required to be worn in offices but are still required to be worn by all staff and customers in all indoor public places as well as on public transport, planes and in airports. Drinking while standing and dancing are now both permitted indoors and outdoors at hospitality venues. With many regional areas, including towns like Cobar, having not yet reached the same high vaccination rates as the Greater Sydney area, the NSW Government has made the decision to wait to ease travel rules. Deputy Premier Paul Toole said the tough decision had been made to delay travel between Regional NSW and Greater Sydney until next month when it’s expected that more than 77 per cent of regional Local Government Areas will be fully vaccinated. “Everyone has done a brilliant job of getting vaccinated and rates are rising fast; however we have looked at the health modelling and listened to feedback from regional communities who want more time to get their double dose vaccination rates up as high as possible before they welcome back visitors,” Mr Toole said.
Council candidates
Two community-minded local residents, Kain Neale and Lillian Simpson, are interested in becoming Cobar Shire Councillors and have nominated as candidates for the Local Government elections in December. As of Monday, there were six nominees for Cobar Shire Council with Kain and Lillian to join four current councillors, Cr Janine Lea-Barrett, Cr Jarrod Marsden, Cr Julie Payne and Cr Kate Winders on the ballot paper. The Cobar Weekly met with the two new candidates this week to find out what has prompted them to run for Council. See Page 2 for Kain’s responses and Page 4 for Lillian’s comments.
