Bob and Wendy Maher (at centre) created a whimsical Santa’s Toyshop Christmas lights display at 9 Denman Street which was voted by our judges as the winner of the 2024 Cobar Weekly’s Christmas Cheer competition. Sponsored by Aurelia Metals/Peak Gold Mines and Cobar Powerhouse, Bob and Wendy collected $500 worth of Cobar Quids as first prize. Second prize (by half a point) went to Margaret Thomas’ sparkling dinosaur display at 78 Monaghan Street ($350 Cobar Quids) and another half a point back in third place ($200 Cobar Quids) was the Tranter’s musically animated show at 5 Jones Drive. Trudgett’s Christmas display, that included a big blow-up bauble, at 28 Kurrajong Circle was highly commended by the judges along with Knight’s meticulously arranged display at 22 Bathurst Street. Both received $100 Cobar Quids prizes. The winners are pictured above at The Cobar Weekly office on Monday afternoon with Aurelia staff members Scott Ginnivan and Laura Newton.
