Driver charged after fatality
A 23 year old Broken Hill woman has been charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, following an accident on the Barrier Highway west of Cobar on Sunday morning. Emergency services were called to the scene about 25km west of Cobar around 8.30am, following reports of a crash. Officers attached to Central North Police District and the police Crash Investigations Unit attended, as well as personnel from the Rural Fire Service, Fire and Rescue NSW, State Emergency Service, NSW Ambulance and Cobar Shire Council traffic management control unit. Police report the car had left the roadway and rolled after attempting to overtake two B– double trucks. A passenger in the vehicle, a 14-year-old boy from Broken Hill, was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics, however, he died at the scene. The driver and another two passengers were uninjured. A crime scene was established, and an investigation was carried out with a report prepared for the coroner. The highway was closed during the investigation and was reopened to traffic later that day at around 7pm. The driver was taken to Cobar District Hospital for mandatory testing and was later conveyed to Cobar Police Station where she was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death – drive in a manner dangerous and negligent driving (occasion death). She received conditional bail and is to appear before Cobar Local Court next month.

An outback cruise
The Cobar Dust Bowl Fuel Burners car and motorbike club hosted visitors from the Griffith Motorcycle Club, Kiama Classic Bike Club and other parts of the state for a social run to Nymagee on Saturday. Cobar and Griffith club member, Ken Dunne organised the run and hosted the group of 60 odd for morning tea at his property Killala (on the way to Nymagee). After returning from Nymagee the group joined up again for a roast dinner and car/bike trivia quiz at the Cobar Bowling & Golf Club. Pictured at the Golfie carpark on Saturday morning were Mario Parisi on his Ducati Monster 696, Ken Dunne, former Cobar resident Phil Kitson (from Orange) with his classic 1940 Indian Chief, local John Negfeldt and Brisbane visitor Richard Waugh.
