Temperatures over the past week have been varied with the Bureau recording a top of 22.6 degrees last Wednesday, which was our warmest day of the week.

Thursday was also warm at 21.7 degrees.

It only reached a maximum of 16 degrees on Friday but Saturday was actually our coldest day of the week with a top of 15.9.

The sun came out on Sunday and it warmed up to a maximum of 18 degrees.

Monday’s top daytime temperature was 21.4.

The mercury is expected to reach to 21 degrees today and also tomorrow.

There’s also a slight chance of a shower and a thunderstorm tomorrow.

It should be partly cloudy on Friday with a slight chance of showers and a thunderstorm, and reach a top of 21 degrees.

$8 million capital raised for Mt Boppy Gold Mine

Manuka Resources has raised $8 million capital to commence production at the Mt Boppy Gold Mine near Canbelego.

The company announced last week they had “received firm commitments from institutional and other exempt investors” for up to $8 million in a Share Placement offer to commence production at the mine this year.

Manuka’s executive chairman, Dennis Karp said the company was delighted to announce the “significant capital raising” for the company which will allow them to establish an onsite processing capacity at Mt Boppy and potentially commence gold doré production later this year.

“Bringing a new processing plant at Mt Boppy online represents Stage 1 of the Company’s staged self-sustaining growth plan, that is focused initially on production and free cash generation from our Cobar Basin gold and silver projects, and subsequently development of our world-class VTM Sands Project in New Zealand,” Mr Karp said.

Following the ramp-up of the Mt Boppy Gold Mine, the company will look to recommence silver production at Wonawinta in 2025 with the support of cash flow generated from Mt Boppy.

Wonawinta is currently in care and maintenance.

Golf visitors are keen to return

A dinner at the Cobar Bowling & Golf Club on Saturday night was one part of the PGA Legends Tour Pro-Am itinerary that went ahead without a hitch. After 52mm of rain fell in Cobar on Thursday night and Friday, the junior coaching session had to be cancelled on Friday and, with continuous drizzling rain on Saturday, Day 1 of the Pro-Am event was also called off. A modified event did however take place on Sunday. See Page 20 and 22 for full report. The Legends Tour Pro-Am visitors were very impressed with Cobar’s hospitality and are keen to return next year. Virtual fencing submissions

Anyone with an interest in virtual stock fencing is urged to have their say on the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Amendment (Virtual Stock Fencing) Bill 2024.

Chair of the Committee on Investment, Industry and Regional Development, Roy Butler, State Member for Barwon, is urging anyone with an interest or stake in virtual stock fencing to make a comment.

The deadline for submissions is Friday, so time is running out.

“Submissions can be as simple as a line or two on what you think should, or should not, happen with this technology,” Mr Butler said.

Sergeant Warwick Laing said a number of cannabis plants and cannabis leaf were located and seized by police.

The NSW Government package included: $45M to improve bail laws and justice system responses to domestic violence; $48m for workers who support children accompanying their mothers to refuges; $38m to implement NSW’s first dedicated Primary Prevention Strategy; $700,000 for the NSW Domestic Violence Line (DV line) and $5m for research into perpetrators and effective interventions.

Connectivity out in the bush There has been a lot of concern about the plan to turn off the 3G network, especially in many country areas where 5G coverage is patchy and, in some places, even 4G. While some carriers have already begun shutting down their 3G networks, Telstra has announced it will be extending their closure to the end of August.

State Member for Barwon Roy Butler urges people to make sure their device will be compatible with the changes.

“This could be devices that are 3G only, devices that do not support Voice over 4G (VoLTE), or devices that are 4G enabled but hardwired to use 3G for emergency calls.

“This will also affect medical devices and other hardware connected to the Telstra 3G network, from EFTPOS terminals to farm machinery,” Mr Butler said.

In other news about digital connectivity Mr Butler advises the Australian Government has announced an On Farm Connectivity initiative that provides eligible Equipment Suppliers with up to $30,000 rebate for selling digital farming technology to eligible Primary Producers to help improve their connectivity and productivity.

“The program is part of the Better Connectivity for Rural and Regional Australia Plan and assists primary producers in taking advantage of digital agribusiness solutions to boost productivity and improve safety,” he said.

Mixed & Matched cement Fast5 comp’s top spot The Fast5 netball competition held a double header round last Tuesday night and the competition’s leaders, Mixed & Matched, cemented their top spot with wins in both games.

In their first match up against the Lillies, they finished as big 44-10 winners and then accounted for Fast Fobs 40-21 in their second game.

In the other two games played last week, Rusty Snails, who are second on the ladder, had it nearly all their way in their match with Peak Gold Bars to win 37-13 and Lillies bounced back from their earlier loss in the evening to beat Peak Gold Bars 38-17.

Three players, Lauren Urquhart (Mixed & Matched), Troy Knight (Peak Gold Bars) and Stevie Toomey (Lillies) sank a super shot each on the night.

That was the last of the general round games.

After finishing 5th on the table, Peak Gold Bars have finished their season.

The elimination semi finals were played last night with Mixed & Matched taking on Lillies and Rusty Snails came up against Fast Fobs.

The winners of each game will meet in next week’s grand final.

Cobar was quick off the mark in Saturday’s game with Ben Griffiths scoring on the left wing within two minutes of the match kicking off.

Shortly after Atuau muscled his way over for their second try and when Plater’s conversion attempt found its mark, the Roosters were ahead 10-0 just before the 10 minute mark.

The match then became an arm wrestle for both sides as Baradine tried to get themselves back into the game while the Roosters were determined to keep them out of it.

Consecutive penalties against the Roosters (including one that landed a player in the sinbin for 10 minutes) kept the Cobar team scrambling in defence.

Baradine’s persistence paid off and they eventually crossed for their first try in the far right corner.
