War Memorial preserved
Cobar residents are now required to wear masks in all indoor non-residential settings in line with new COVID restrictions that came into effect on Saturday night. While Cobar continues to be COVID-free, we are however required to abide by the new regulations which include wearing masks in supermarkets, retail outlets, the gym, service stations, pubs and clubs, all workplaces and also at outdoor organised events (including the Cobar Camels home game this Saturday). Most local businesses have had to only make minor adjustments to the way they conduct their businesses but are now strongly enforcing customers to mask up, QR sign in upon entry and practice social distancing The Great Western Hotel has elected to close their bar and only open the restaurant for takeaways. Licensee Rachael Warren said with such a small bar area it was too hard to get patrons to adhere to the one person per four square metre rule and to remain seated while drinking. In line with the four square metre rule, Gumnuts Café has cut down the number of diners permitted inside while the Cobar Services Club has reduced their opening hours in the club and restaurant. Local children’s services are enforcing parents to wear masks at pick up and drop off. (Children under 12 years of age are not required to wear a mask but may elect to do so.) Visitors to households are limited to five guests (including children). The new measures have been introduced to help restrict the spread of COVID-19. ANNI’S ARTS & CRAFTS 59 Marshall St
Rural Crime Prevention Team keen to help
The Cobar War Memorial Children’s Hostel committee has struck a deal for Cobar Shire Council to purchase the hostel complex on the corner of Barton and Blakey streets for $1. The current committee has concluded that the now vacant complex has reached the end of its purpose of providing accommodation to isolated children for education purposes. One of the conditions of the “sale” is that Council preserve and continue to maintain the ‘Lest we Forget’ memorial and that it be made available for future Anzac Day services. Council has agreed to the offer to take over the hostel for “community use”. See article on Page 2.
