Police investigate $10,000 theft A search by Cobar Police of a Bradley Street residence last week located a stash of stolen property.

Police report that sometime between 6pm May 26 and 7am May 27 there was a break in at the Great Cobar Heritage Centre with a large quantity of power tools, hand tools and other building equipment valued at over $10,000 stolen.

The theft was reported to Police and an investigation was commenced.

At approximately 6.30pm on Friday Police executed a Search Warrant at the Bradley Street address. Police located some of the

property which had been stolen including a Hilti core drill, a Makita electric planer, a Milwaukee hammer drill, batteries for power tools and various hand tools.

The resident, an 18 year old Cobar man, was not present at the time of the warrant.

Police are still looking for the man to speak to him regarding the matter.

Investigations are continuing.

Police are seeking further information from the public about this break and enter.

Anyone with any information is urged to contact Cobar Police or report it to CrimeStoppers.

Bring out the winter woolies this week The big coats and warm jackets came out of the cupboards today as a cold front moves across NSW, bringing with it rain and below average temperatures.

A total of 7.4mm of rain was recorded by the Bureau of Meteorology last week in Cobar bringing the total rainfall for 2021 to 230.4mm.

Temperatures overnight last week were below average with 10.3 degrees recorded on Wednesday, 11.9 on Thursday and 10 on Friday. Saturday’s minimum of just 3.6 degrees made for a chilly start to the day and Sunday was only slightly better at 4.2 and Monday 4.1.

The weekend was sunny with pleasant tops of 15.3 on Saturday and a warm 17.3 on Sunday.

The Bureau is predicting a polar blast for much of NSW today with snow expected to fall in some areas. Cobar is also on the hit list for the cold weather with today’s expected top to be a wintry 11 degrees.

The cold weather will be with us for a few more days with 13 expected tomorrow (and a possible shower of rain), 15 is the top for Friday while 16 degrees is the expected top for both Saturday and Sunday.

Celebrating 100 years of service One hundred years ago, a young lady named Grace Griffiths took a classic photo of a group of men heading off to fight a fire south west of Cobar.

Many of the men were returned soldiers who had drawn blocks on the Ivanhoe Road.

One of the returned soldiers in the photo was Clif Hyde (Snr) of Kia-Ora Station, as well as members of the Griffiths family of Double Gates Station. These men were among the founding members of the Sandy Creek Bushfire Brigade and both the Hyde and the Griffiths families continue to hold positions in the brigade to this day.

Clif’s son, Bob Hyde (AFSM), was Captain for 51 years before handing over to Ray Anderson of the Meadows Station.

Ray was succeeded by Brian (Stumpy) Anderson who was followed by Paul Whytcross.

Bim Griffiths was a deputy captain of the brigade for many years. The current brigade captain is Clif Hyde (Jnr).

The brigade members recently gathered at the site of the old Sandy Creek Hotel on Pine Ridge Station to celebrate 100 years of continual service to their community.

With sponsorship from the Rural Fire Service Association (RFSA), brigade members and their families had a wonderful day on the banks of the Sandy Creek, sharing stories, meals, birthday cake and camped overnight.

Family members also travelled from Queensland and Tasmania to help celebrate this historic occasion.—contributed

Cobar region the “hottest” location for mineral exploration When it comes to exploring for minerals, the Cobar region is one of the “hottest” locations in the state at the moment and that was evident by the large amount of interest for a geology forum in Cobar last week.

Organised by Aurelia Metals geologist, Scott Munro, the Cobar Geology Forum at the Cobar Bowling & Golf Club last Wednesday attracted almost 60 people.

“The Cobar basin and surrounds is currently the subject to well funded mineral exploration investment due to ongoing heightened commodity prices and ongoing mineral exploration discovery success over the past decade.

“Therefore, with so many exploration companies active in the area it was determined to bring Cobar district geoscientists together to listen to a number of presentations focused on the Cobar district and facilitate the exchanging of ideas,” Mr Munro told The Cobar Weekly.

While the forum was promoted specifically to those working and studying in the geoscience field, Mr Munro said anyone was welcome to attend.

Among those who did attend were industry geoscientists (including graduates and longtermers) NSW Government geological survey geoscientists, drilling contractors, staff from local geological and geophysical contracting companies and underground control providers who were keen to hear the latest exploration news from five speakers.

The Geological Survey of New South Wales’ Senior Geologist (metallic minerals) Peter Downes and Geologist Liann Deyssing presented on the mineral prospectivity of the Cobar basin, and on the recent research and development initiatives that the NSW Geological Survey is undertaking with a goal to help drive a new generation of discoveries in the district.

“This included results from the recently completed airborne electromagnetic survey flown in 2019, predicting the depth of cover where prospective rock types are concealed beneath the surface and recent advances in mineral geochemistry,” Mr Munro reported.

Staff from Aurelia Metals and Aeris Resources outlined two of the most recent mineral discoveries in the district.

Aurelia’s Adam McKinnon (General Manag-

er Exploration and Business Development) spoke about the discovery of the Federation lead-zinc-gold deposit located just south of the Hera Mine at Nymagee.

Federation was discovered in April 2019 and has rapidly advanced since then to be the focus of a current feasibility study due for completion in mid 2022.

Aeris’ Regional Exploration Manager Tritton Operations, Chris Raymond’s presentation was about the new Constellation copper deposit located approximately 50km northeast of the Tritton Mine, which was only discovered in November 2020.

Since then Aeris has aggressively completed further surface drilling at Constellation with the objective of reporting on a maiden mineral

resource estimate in the near future.

Drilling to date has defined copper mineralisation over an 850m down plunge extent.

Josh Bryant, General Manager People & Risk at Mitchell Services, spoke about how they are integrating technology into their business to improve both production and safety.

In his presentation, Mr Bryant talked about improving critical risk management, safety improvements they had made based on a “learning from work” safety culture and a new generation of drilling rigs that are increasingly “hands free”.

Mr Munro said attendees welcomed the opportunity to discuss the current mineral trends and he now plans to organise a follow-up forum in a few months time.

Rotunda undergoes renovation

Raid recovers stolen property

Police recovered a number of stolen items, prohibited weapons and drugs during a raid on a Blakey Street home yesterday morning.

During a search of the property, Police recovered a number of stolen items including an Engel fridge and speakers which were allegedly stolen from the Cobar Rugby Clubhouse in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police also recovered property which is believed to have been stolen from the Grand Hotel sometime between April 15 and June 7.

The stolen goods included computer screens, CCTV equipment and alcohol.

During their search Police uncovered a number of prohibited weapons along with a small amount of prohibited drugs.

The resident, a 33 year old Cobar man, was arrested for a number of offences including Break and Enter and Receive Stolen Property.

He was bail refused and is to appear at Bourke Local Court today.

Painter, Clinton Russell, is one of the contractors working on restoring the rotunda in Drummond Park to its former glory. The transformation is expected to be finished by the end of the month. Council is undertaking the restoration work using funding received from the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure funding program. Any parts of the rotunda frame and roof that can be repaired will be repaired while some parts that are rusted or worn will be replaced and the cement base will get a fresh coat of paint. Plans for the construction of the rotunda and a park (which was named Drummond Park around 1943 in memory of the Reverend Stanley Drummond and his wife Lucy) were put forward to Council in 1936. Photos from the early 1940s show the rotunda was a focal point of the park.

Miners memorial impresses mayor During the week I was given a prelude of the Miners Memorial by Barry Knight.

Barry has put his heart and soul into this project and the result is magnificent.

It will be a showpiece for Cobar for years to come.

Through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure funding stream, Council applied (and was successful) to install shade in Drummond Park (over the barbecue area and toilets) and to undertake much need repair and restoration works to the rotunda.

The rotunda works began last week, and are well under way, with the shade footings expected to be completed this week.

All works are on schedule to be completed by the end of the month.

Wild dog info sessions

A group of landholders attended a wild dog information session at Nullogoola Station last week to refresh their skills and knowledge in the behaviours of wild dogs and wild dog management techniques. The session was coordinated by Western Local Land Services (Western LLS) and run by Stuart Boyd-Law, Pest Animal Control and Training, along with Western LLS biosecurity officers to provide advice and answer questions. The session was a mix of theory and practical, with the landholders given demonstrations in wild dog traps and trapping techniques. All participants found the day valuable and now have more confidence in looking for wild dog activity and controlling pest animals on their property. Cobar paramedics support industrial action tomorrow Cobar paramedics will be supporting their fellow NSW Health Services Union (HSU) paramedics in tomorrow’s statewide call for a fair pay rise.

Cobar Ambulance Station Manager Stephen Dutton confirmed the Cobar staff would be supporting the industrial action NSW paramedics were planning for tomorrow.

“We are however awaiting on clarification as to how that will mean we will be responding,” Mr Dutton said last week.

“No lives are going to be put at risk,” he stated.

As part of their statewide industrial action tomorrow which calls for a fair pay rise, paramedics will only be attending the most urgent, life threatening emergencies.

HSU NSW Secretary Gerard Hayes said last year paramedics were awarded a 0.3 per cent pay rise, which he described as “paltry”.

He said the Government has proposed a 1.5 per cent increase this year which is less than inflation, which NSW Treasury currently forecasts at 2.2 per cent for the coming year.

“NSW paramedics are at breaking point.

“They’re not trying to get rich.

“They just want a fair pay rise that recognises the cost of living and the intensity of their work,” Mr Hayes said.

False rumours about health services

A number of false rumours about what services the Cobar Health Service (Cobar Hospital) can and can’t provide, including not being able to treat babies and young children, have been circulating around town.

In an effort to dispel these harmful rumours, The Cobar Weekly spoke with Cobar Health Services Manager, Mary Urquhart, in an effort to clear up these misconceptions.

Rumour: The Cobar hospital doesn’t treat any pediatric patients - all babies and young children are sent to Dubbo.

Mary said the Cobar Health Service treats all patients on an individual basis dependent on their illness and condition.

“In regards to Pediatric patients, a Pediatrician is involved in their care from arrival using the V-care camera.

“The doctor on premises and the Pediatrician monitor the patient closely for eight hours and if the child’s condition remains stable, then the child can continue to be treated at Cobar Health Service under the joint team of the Pediatrician and the local doctor at the hospital.

“If the child’s condition does not improve or deteriorates, then the Pediatrician will arrange for the child to be transferred to an appropriate regional/metro hospital for the remainder of their care,” Mary explained.

Rumour: In an emergency, you will not be treated at the hospital if you don’t present in an ambulance.

“Cobar Health Service treats all patients presenting to the emergency department irrelevant of how you have arrived (ambulance or private transport).

“All patients are assessed and triaged by our experienced Registered Nurses. Triage is the process of determining the priority/urgency of patient’s treatments by the severity of their condition/illness.”

“Cobar Health Service is a 24 hour a day, seven day a week service, so in a nutshell, we never close.”

Question: Can you get an x-ray on the weekend or after hours?

“Cobar Health Service has a chief radiographer and she is available for emergency xrays after hours and on weekends.

“The chief radiographer is supported by three Registered Nurses who are trained in limited radiography (called Remote Operators) and these Registered Nurses are available to take emergency x-rays when required.”

Question: Is there a doctor at the hospital?

“Yes there is. The management of Cobar Health Service works extremely hard to ensure there is a doctor on premises at the hospital. This doctor is responsible for accident and emergency presentations and the in-patients at the hospital.”

Question: Do I need to wear a mask when visiting the hospital?

“Cobar Health Service receives daily advice from the Ministry of Health regarding changes to the COVID requirements.

“Currently, visitors do not have to wear masks when visiting patients at the hospital. If a person presenting to the hospital has respiratory symptoms, they will be instructed to wear a mask to protect themselves, and others.”

Question: Are children allowed to visit patients in hospital?

“Children are currently allowed to visit patients at Cobar Health Service under the supervision of a person over the age of 18 years of age. “ If any community member has any concerns or questions, please don’t hesitate in contacting me at the hospital and I can address and answer their concerns and questions,” Mary said.

Council wants to hear your feedback Is the cost of landing fees at the Cobar Airport too expensive? Are the cemetery fees Council charges reasonable? Could Council be doing more to bring people to Cobar? Is Council spending enough on its street tree planting program?

How Council plans to deal with all of these topics, plus many more, are outlined in Council’s draft annual operational plan, revenue policy, schedule of fees and charges and budget which are currently on public exhibition.

Council wants to know what ratepayers think about these documents and if any residents

Girl Guides give the Commonwealth Bank thumbs up Cobar Commonwealth Bank employees have donated $500 to the Cobar Girl Guides as part of the bank’s nationwide community donation program.

The Commonwealth Bank has again pledged to donate $500,000 nationally, to recognise those organisations that make a difference to the communities in which they operate.

Cobar branch manager Donovan Cornwell said each Commonwealth Bank branch is allocated $500 to donate to causes important to their local community.

He said the Cobar staff voted to support the great work of the Cobar Girl Guides.

“Many communities across Australia face ongoing challenges as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, so it’s important for us to give back to local organisations who continue to do good work within our community.

“We are pleased to support Cobar Girl Guides Association,” Mr Cornwell said.

“They seem to do a lot in the community, things like handing out Christmas hampers last December and most of what they do goes unnoticed.”

“The Girl Guides are quiet achievers in everything they do so it is great to be able to pub-

licly recognise and acknowledge their contribution to our community and to be able to support them in this great work.”

Mr Donovan said it was the third donation the bank had made this year to the community.

“The branch decides who will benefit each time and we try to pick someone new every time,” he said.

Grant to improve men’s health The Australian Government is continuing to support the health of local men, with the Copper City Men’s Shed to receive $1,690 from the latest round of the National Shed Development Programme.

Federal Member for Parkes and Minister for Regional Health Mark Coulton announced on Friday that the Cobar Men’s Shed was one of 10 Men’s Sheds in the Parkes electorate to receive grants totalling almost $30,000.

The money can be used to purchase tools and equipment, fund shed improvements and The Cobar Girl Guides gave a big thumbs up to the Cobar Commonwealth Bank branch manager Donovan Cornwell who delivered a $500 donation to the girls last week which hold health and wellbeing events.

“I’ve always been a proud supporter of will help them to furnish their new guide hall in Maidens Avenue. ▪ Photo contributed Men’s Sheds because they play a vital role in preventing social isolation and mental ill health,” Mr Coulton said.

“They offer thousands of men of all ages a safe and friendly environment where they can work on meaningful projects while building strong social connections.

“That’s why I’m thrilled that 10 new grants will better support Men’s Sheds,” he said.

The Copper City Men’s Shed plans to use their grant funding to hold a Post COVID-19 Mental Health and Wellbeing Day. “Men’s Sheds are an integral part of their local communities,” Mr Coulton said.

“This Government will continue to support Men’s Sheds as part of our comprehensive approach to improving the health of Australian men and boys.”

RFDS Outback Car Trek passes through Tourists flocking back to Cobar

The long-running Outback Car Trek, which has raised millions of dollars for the Royal Flying Doctor Service, over-nighted in Cobar last night.

After a COVID-enforced cancellation in 2020 (the Trek’s first break in 32 years) the Outback Car Trek (OBCT) has fired up again and headed off from West Wyalong on Saturday on its 3,500km journey across NSW. Trek organiser Bill Patrick said they were so glad to be “doing it for the Doctor again”.

It’s Bill’s 12th Trek as organiser and his 17th overall.

“The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) provides vital healthcare services to regional, rural and remote communities across Australia.

“The OBCT is one of Australia’s longestrunning and most successful charity motoring events,” Bill said.

“COVID restrictions have limited the numbers of Trekkers this year, but we’ll be aiming to add as much as possible to the some $31 million we have already raised for the RFDS.” Apart from their contribution to the RFDS, the 100 car/200 person convoy will also provide a welcome financial boost for the many small towns they will pass through.

Bill estimates that in years gone by a full complement of hungry and thirsty Trekkers would spend some $750,000 on a trip – not counting what they tip into the bucket if they hear of a local cause that needs support.

Although the RFDS is best known for outback emergency retrievals, the majority of its work these days involves vital outback primary health care including: mental and dental health, breast care, women and children’s health, drug and alcohol counselling and chronic disease screening, as well as GP and other specialist

services.

“Among the many highlights during this great week of remote driving will be visits to the Broken Hill and Dubbo bases of the RFDS South Eastern Section,” Bill said.

“We’re proud of our long association with the Flying Doctor and this is an important reminder of why we are on the road.”

The Trekkers were to arrive in Cobar yesterday and then head off this morning to travel to Dubbo.

Cobar Arts Council members took advantage of the sunny Railway Station Platform for their meeting on Sunday.

Due to unexpected circumstances, the proposed cardmaking and collage workshops were unable to be held in May, however members were involved with the successful Cobar Show pavilion through sponsorship of the fine art section as well as volunteer stewarding and judging.

The Railway Station will be the venue for the first Cobar Community Collective Art Exhibition and sale next week.

This involves a group of local artists presenting their works to the community in an exhibition over three days with all pieces being offered for sale.

An idea for a campfire comedy night is being received enthusiastically with contacts being made and a suitable date (not clashing with other functions) is now under investigation.— contributed

Tourists are starting to return to Cobar with the Visitors Information Centre (VIC) and a number of local businesses all reporting a steady increase in visitor numbers over the past couple of months.

Cobar Shire Council’s tourism manager Demi Smith reports that while visitor numbers to the VIC are down on previous years (apart from during COVID restrictions), she puts that down to the centre’s temporary location in Linsley Street.

“While we’re not located at the museum at the entrance to town, we aren’t recording the same foot traffic as we did before, but our numbers are growing,” she said.

“Accommodation providers are reporting a fantastic trade, with many booked out on a regular basis.

“The caravan park has also received a huge increase in bookings, especially over the past month.”

Demi said they had been pleased to also welcome back to town a number of coach tours, with seven coach groups, totalling 210 people, visiting Cobar between March and May. “And while we can’t offer them museum tours at the moment due to ongoing renovations, we have been providing local tour guides to show them around town.”

At a tourism advisory committee public meeting last week, Demi advised that a number of tourism projects were about to come to fruition with the Miners Memorial to be officially opened this month; she expects the museum will be open and operational by August; the Sound Chapel is “all but” finished; and the mural on the Newey toilet block is now complete.

She outlined plans for upcoming festivals and events which included: Seniors Week activities and a netball carnival in September; this year’s Festival of the Miner’s Ghost, Back to Cobar Month activities and Yabbies Reunion planned for October; as well as the Grey Mardi Gras and Running on Empty festivals set down for next year.

• Well done to the Cobar Netball Association junior representative team who competed at a netball carnival at West Wyalong on Sunday finishing the day on a high with a win over Hillston. The girls also played teams from Temora, Leeton and Junee. Their coach reports the Cobar girls started the day well with players running onto the ball and making the most of well-timed, strong leads. They also cleared out well to create space for their team mates. After a tough game against the strong Temora team they worked on their shooters’ circle movement, feeding the ball into the circle and strengthened their defence. The girls improved throughout the day which culminated in a win over the Hillston Swans in their second last match of the day. Hooray!

• Former Cobar resident, Scottie Brydon, has been invited to continue his role as an ambassador for the Sporting Shooters’ Association of Australia (SSAA) for a further two years. Scottie, a very successful Para Trap shooter, has been their ambassador for the past two years and said he was delighted to be able to continue in the role. Scottie’s shooting accomplishments have seen him rise to his current rating as No 2 in the

The EoI is the first stage of a two-stage engagement process. The objective of the process is to identify and pre-register individuals and firms which have the capacity, capability and experience to undertake the project(s) identified, and which are interested in joining with MPSL to improve the lived experiences of the Aboriginal communities of the Murdi Paaki Region. A minimum requirement would be the ability to demonstrate prior experience of working within the Murdi Paaki Region. EoIs will be assessed in accordance with designated criteria.

Winter frosts not affecting golfers Now that winter is really here, it’s expected that the frosts will dry the golf course out, meaning there will be more run on the fairways and that should produce better scores - well that’s what you would think anyway!

But apparently there is still no run and, apart from a score of 39 individual points by Jason Foster on Sunday, the scores in the Men’s Golf competition have been mediocre at best.

Marc Cummins is the only player in the last month to get past 40 points!

The Empire Hotel sponsored day on Saturday was a three-man-Ambrose and there were 18 players (six teams) contesting the event.

The best score came from the teaming of Mark Martin, Marc Quinn (both outrageous burglars in big team events) and Peter Lamond who scored 63⅓ points.

They just managed to hold off Tony Polack, Jarrod Marsden and Smedley Nicholson on 63½ points.

The Fraser brothers, Alec and Mark, along with Dave Knight also had 63½ points but lost on a countback.

Nearest the Pin shots were recorded on the third hole by Peter Lamond, 7th—Garry Wilkin and 15th—Barry Doyle.

Sunday’s event was a four ball multiplier with 13 players taking part.

Jason Foster and Alec Fraser won the day ahead of Barry Doyle and Garry Wilkin.

Third place went to Peter Lawrence and Mark Fraser with Max Phillips and Clive Jones fourth.

Foster had the best individual score with 39 points followed by Chris Powell on 36.

Wilkin was greedy with the Nearest the Pin prizes claiming wins on three holes, the 7th, 11th and 15th. Doyle won the prize on the 3rd hole and Stewart Fraser the 8th.

A reliable source reports the Monday ‘Skins’ golf competition is heating up.

Now that Joe Palma is back from his fishing holiday the competition can only become even more intense.

Apparently Geoff Rorke still lives in hope that one day his huge handicap will provide a wind-fall for him and poor old Michael Bannister is reported to be losing money handover-fist but still does it with a smile.

Max Phillips hasn’t been winning much this year with only a ball or two won here and there, compared to last year when he was known as ‘The man who broke the bank at Monte Carlo’.

This week, with the Queen’s birthday holiday Monday there will be three days of competition golf.

High scoring senior netball games The absolute best bowls conditions There were some high scoring games played in Round 7 of the Senior Netball competition on Saturday with more than 200 points scored in just three matches.

The Divas were the highest contributors to Saturday’s overall tally with their 61-28 win over Hot Shots.

Divas out-pointed Hot Shots for each of the first three quarters of their A Grade game, 20-3, 18-9, 18-9 before Hot Shots took the upper hand in the final quarter to win that one, 7-5.

The game’s Sportsmanship and Best & Fairest points were shared by Corrine McLeod, Summer Patterson and Lisa Travis from the Divas along with Hot Shots’ Stephanie Stone

and Georgie Chaplain.

Sharpe Shooters also added a chunk of goals to the overall tally for the day with their 52-12 victory over Gumnuts in B Grade.

Sharpe Shooters consistently out-played Gumnuts all game to finish with their 40 point win. Best on court were: Judy Watt and Tatum Brennan (Sharpe Shooters) and Emily Campbell and Jessica McFarlane (Gumnuts).

The closest match of the round was played between Real Steel and Golfie Mystics with Real Steel eventually finishing as nine point winners, 34-25.

Real Steel got off to a good start and maintained a healthy lead up until half time.

Golfie Mystics hit back in the second half and despite outpointing Real Steel by three goals, it was too little too late and Real Steel held out for the win. The standouts in the game were Gen Fellows (Real Steel) and Kelly Tomek and Peta Hill (Golfie Mystics).

Golfie bowlers were treated to the absolute best conditions for bowls on Sunday with the weather just beautiful!

Daniel Holt was too strong for Don Roberts in their Singles Championship match while on rink 13, Randall Hall, Barry Bargwanna and Bian Smith went down in a tight match to Peter Scott, Doug Hudson and Craig ‘Duck’ Grimond by a shot.

In social bowls, David Schofield, Sue Symons and John Daly took the honours over Karen Daly, Peter ‘Skeet’ Goonrey and Ron Symons with a close win of +3 to claim second prize.

In the main game, club president Jim Goonrey teamed up with visitors Debbie and John Rowan to receive an absolute thumping from the team of David ‘Ooze” Knight, Shane Carter and Dean ‘Bogga’ McLeod.

To add insult to injury Goonrey also won the George the Giraffe award after delivering a wrong bias that travelled over several rinks!

(Rumour has it there was no compulsory shout forthcoming.)

And in what was a fantastic finale, Bian Smith and John Daly put on an absolute spectacular performance in their Singles Championship game.

The match lasted 53 ends with Smith getting the points, 32-23.

Further more, the two legends both played 71 ends for the day.

Biggest field of the season for Empire Hotel event The Empire Hotel sponsored three lady Ambrose golf competition on Saturday had one of the largest fields to date this season with 18 players turning out.

Fay Hardwick, Sue Phillips and Glenda Peebles had the best net score of 68 5/8 to win the day. Wan Sipatsa, Daphne Cross and Susan Goonrey came home in second place with 70 2/3 net.

In third spot were Narelle Kriz, Jannine Wilkin and Karen Manns on 72½.

Sipatsa picked up three Nearest the Pin prizes on the 3rd, 11th and 15th holes leaving the 7th for Hardwick and the 11th was won by Kriz.

Sally Bannister was the Stroke winner on Sunday after finishing with a round of 74 net.

Julie Livingston was the runner-up with 76 net followed by Serena Fraser with 77 net, Jannine Wilkin on 79 net and Marlene Wynd with 80 net.

Livingston was the A Grade pin winner on the 11th hole, Susan Goonrey claimed the B Grade pin prize and Glenda Peebles won the C Grade pin.

Four lady golfers defied the weatherman’s predicted 10-20mm of rain last Wednesday and they came out the winners when not one drop fell from the sky during their game.

In the Mids division games, Rangers defeated Liverpool 6-1, with Charlie Nicholson being the stand-out scorer for Rangers.

In the other game, Rovers won against United with Tom Preisig and Cooper Raffaele earning the Gumnut Milkshake Awards.

First time player Sophia Le Lievre took home the Cobar Hotbake Donut award for Rangers this week.

The Seniors played an energetic game with the match being hotly contested.

The score was even until Jacob Theakston found the net and scored his third goal for Spurs, bringing them to a 4-3 victory over Rangers.

Roosters juniors score a hat trick at home The Cobar Roosters Junior Rugby League Club had a hat trick of wins in the Dubbo & District Junior Rugby League competition on Saturday.

The young Roosters hosted three home games at Tom Knight Memorial Oval with the Under 14s and Under 12s side both beating their Wellington oppositions, while the undefeated Cobar Under 11s easily accounted for the Dubbo Macquarie visitors.

The Under 14s game was a thriller with the lead see-sawing throughout the match.

The Roosters’ determination (which was

evident particularly in their strong defence and commitment in their tackles) saw them hold out to finish with a brilliant 28-20 win.

Tahj Foley was seemingly unstoppable in the game and was responsible for the opening two tries for the Roosters which gave the home side an early 8-0 lead.

Wellington hit back with a converted try and then took a 12-8 lead after Nathanial Robinson expertly landed their long range conversion.

Foley was on his way to scoring his third try but opted to pass off to team mate Oisin

McMullen (who was always there in support) and McMullen touched down under the posts.

McMullen’s conversion put the Roosters back in front at 14-12 just before half time.

After the restart, the game continued to be an arm wrestle for both sides before the Cowboys took back the lead six minutes in with an unconverted try.

Foley replied soon after with his third try for the Roosters to once again put Cobar ahead 18-16 midway through the second half.

Shortly after Wellington re-claimed the upper hand with a try in the corner and, with 15 minutes left on the clock, they led 20-18.

When Foley scored his fourth try (which was a replica of his third), the Roosters had a narrow 22-20 lead as the clock ticked down.

The Cowboys rallied and made a couple of assaults on their try line however the Roosters repelled all of their attempts.

Just before full time, Nick Hodges, who had a cracker of a game for the Roosters, broke through the Wellington defence and ran 60 metres to score the match-winning try for Cobar which Foley converted to give Cobar their sensational 28-20 win.

McMullen, who pulled off numerous textbook tackles and made a number of great runs in Saturday’s win, earned Cobar’s Best & Fairest three points, Hodges collected two points and one point went to hard working Jay Lamond.

The Cobar Under 12s had it all their own way in their match with the visiting Cowboys.

They converted their 18-0 half time lead into a 30-0 win by the final buzzer.

Jacob Chandler scored twice for his Roosters side with tries also recorded by Rowdy Barton (and a goal), Nate Martin, Will Oborn, Kai McCosker and Eli Martin.

The Cobar Roosters Under 14s team had a thrilling 28-20 win over the Wellington Blaire Drady and Rowdy Barton earned the Coach’s Awards with Clay McDonald named Cowboys on Saturday at Tom Knight Memorial Oval. It was an exciting and nail-biting their Players’ Player. game to watch with the lead changing seven times throughout the match.
