We wish all of our readers, customers and everyone in the community a very Merry Christmas and a safe and happy New Year. Thank you for allowing all of us at The Coastland Times to serve you.

The Duck Town Council and Staff wish our residents and visitors a joyous holiday season and a Happy New Year! May your days be merry and bright throughout the season.

peace, joy, and hope. Let us find a determined resolution to work towards building a future where all people live in harmony, where all children can discover their hopes and dreams, and where our aspirations for freedom and peace finally become a reality throughout the world.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone in Dare County a Christmas holiday that is fi lled with happiness, cheer, and love.

As we enjoy this special season with family and friends, it is my hope that

each of us will honor the true meaning of Christmas by finding ways to bring happiness to others. If every day could be Christmas, what a different and wonderful world this would be.

It is my hope that amidst all the decorations and delicious treats that surround us during

This Christmas I hope we will all take the time to reflect on what is really important in our lives and especially celebrate not only the very special gift of love and salvation we were given some two thousand years ago, but also the gift of family, friends and community we enjoy today! We too often, at Christmas, get overwhelmed with the

commercial aspects of the season and unfortunately neglect to recognize what is really important in our lives. This year, my wish is that we all take the time and reflect on just how blessed we are to have our families with us and that we make the effort to tell each member how much they are loved and appreciated!

My wife, Kathy, and I both lost our mothers this past year and that leaves a huge hole in our hearts. But, we have

found that being together as family brings a healing that soothes us and makes us grateful for the years we were able to celebrate Christmas with them.

So, as we go into this Christmas season let’s remember to be kind, to be generous, to love one another, to look after each other and to bring a little joy into the lives of each person we meet!

Earlier this month, RC Theatres Kill Devil Hills Movies 10 hosted showing of Polar Express. NY Pizza Pub donated the tickets for the event. Toys for Tots was on hand collecting toys for the day with the help of Dare County Girl Scouts and Daisy troops, Kill Devil Hills Police Department and Dare County EMS. Four boxes of toys were collected that day and kids got to meet and greet Santa.

Hatteras Village Christmas parade The 26th annual Hatteras Village Christmas Parade brought smiles to lots of people lining the side of NC 12, the village’s main street.

Saturday, Dec. 8 was cold, but parade participants smiled, handed out candy and delivered Christmas greetings. Frisco firefighters bestowed small stuffed toys on parade-watching children.

The parade started at the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum, which hosted its eighth annual Holidays on Hatteras from noon to 5 p.m. Festive music, a doll collection, a Winter Wonderland train display, children’s activities and hot soup, chili, cookies and punch attracted many visitors.

After the parade, Alana Harrison, who led the judges, announced parade winners at the museum.

Taking top spot was the National Park Service.

Cape Hatteras National Seashore Superintendent Dave Hallac led three lighthouses, a turtle and a mobile ranger hat along the parade route.

The $500 prize money was donated to the new non-profit organization Outer Banks Forever, which supports the three national parks in Dare County.

Close to the end of the parade, a couple of cold musicians played Christmas music. Kal Gancsos played the trumpet and John Zachwieja played the accordion aboard a boat used

by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary from Hatteras Island. The entry won second place.

The Auxiliary sponsored a Purple Martin Birdhouse fundraiser. The winning ticket for the birdhouse was held by Hatteras villager Lynne Foster. The drawing was held on parade day at Lee Robinson General Store, Hatteras. Proceeds benefit a scholarship for a graduating senior at Cape Hatteras Secondary.

Coming in third was the Cape Hatteras Secondary Marching Band, which continued its award-winning at this year’s Peanut Festival in Edenton.

Capturing the golf cart category prize was the Grinch entry from Deb and Lyle Ritter.
