Welcome to a new year, familia! We are excited for another year of community-building, networking, learning, and growing with our gente. This is the first of monthly newsletters we’ll be sending to share events and initiatives from Latines Empowered at DePaul (LEAD), as well as announcements, and events from other departments across the university.

Latines Empowered At DePaul (LEAD) is an affinity group committed to the advancement of Latines by providing a network of support and communication, creating mentorship opportunities and addressing current issues affecting the Latine community.

Marcela Reales Visbal, our Social and Events Co-Chair, and her partner Alan welcomed Emiliana Cecilia Mera Reales in April!

Emi was born on April 4th, weighed a whooping 5lbs 6oz and measured 18 inches. Welcome, Emi!

Cristina Rodríguez, Website & Social Media Administrator for the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, and her partner welcomed Héctor Félix Alemán-Rodríguez in June!

Felitos was born on June 2nd. He weighed in at 10lbs 2oz (!!!) and measured 20.08in. Welcome, Felitos!

Flor Reza, our Social and Events Co-Chair, received the Innovation Award from the Division of Student Affairs!

TENGO LINCOLN PARK EN MI CORAZÓN: YOUNG LORDS IN CHICAGO

This exhibition, curated by DePaul Professor Jacqueline Lazú, explores the Young Lords Organization's trajectory in the Lincoln Park neighborhood amidst gentrification and urban renewal, which displaced the vibrant Puerto Rican community of the 1950s and 1960s.

LEAD PALETAS EVENT

Join us for a brown bag event where you will have an opportunity to connect with friends and colleagues. Paletas will be provided for staff and faculty who RSVP.
