TRAIL SAFETY AND ETIQUETTE Horses have the right-of-way; hikers and cyclists are expected to yield to horses. WHEN ENCOUNTERING HORSES
• Dogs are expected to be on a leash and controlled Exception: identifiable working equestrian dogs • Remain visible to the horses. Do not try to hide off the trail • Talk to riders in a calm, soothing voice, with slow deliberate movements • Cyclists should stop their bikes and let the horse pass; riding up on a horse may cause it to spook

• Reserve picnic areas and report any trail hazards by calling the Equestrian Center at 828.553.1273 • Leave the picnic areas and trails as you found them by removing trash • Campfires are not allowed under any circumstances
