Statewide NE CASA event begins Sept. 6

“Chalk it Up for CASA,” a street chalk art competition hosted by Nebraska CASA, will begin Sept. 6 and end Sept. 20.

All ages, all over Nebraska can participate in this competition. This event was designed to spread the word about CASA’s advocacy for kids and the need for more volunteers.

Those wanting to participate can send a photo of their art to Deb Mohlman at director@fillmorecasa. org; for questions call 402-759-4975. The person’s art must be accompanied by the name of the artist, date, time, and place, so CASA staff can arrange for a picture of the drawing to send to Nebraska CASA for final judging.

Photos of the art must be submitted by 5 p.m., Sept. 20.

Winners will be announced Friday, Sept. 24. Prizes include: • $500—Grand Prize • $250—Second Place • $100—Third Place • $50—Best Children’s Piece • $50—Best Family Piece • $50—People’s Choice Award

Everyone is welcome to apply to participate in the chalk art contest. There is no cost to submit an entry into the contest.

Judging will be based on: • Originality/Creativity • Interpretation and Execution of CASA Mission and the need for more volunteers • Overall Design

Chalk is provided for all artists by Fillmore County CASA and CASA of South Central.

Save the date: Old Trusty is set for Sept. 11-12

In less than a month the Clay County Fairgrounds in Clay Center will be full of antique tractors and equipment and vendors.

Prior to Old Trusty kicking off, there will be a trail ride and tractor drive Friday.

Events then begin at 8 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 11, for Old Trusty. Admission is $7 a day for adults; 6-12-yearolds are $1; children 5 and under are free. This includes free parking, evening shows, and shuttle access.

This year, OT will host the International Harvester Collectors Nebraska Chapter 12.

A draft horse and mule show will start at 9:30 a.m., with a quilt show at the Clay County Museum open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Throughout the day, visitors can see threshing, shelling, plower, ensilage chopping, straw baling, baker fan, blacksmith, rope making, broom making, wheelwright, sawmill, sorghum mill, model engines, candle making, weaving, spinning, and dutch oven cooking.

At 1 p.m. each day there will be a parade in front of the grandstand, followed by a tractor pull at 3:30 p.m. Two sleds will run at the same time during the pull, with open and stock.

Throughout the day, musicians will be playing under the shade tree, and a daily kids pedal pull will occur.

At 7 p.m., the Revival Band, which plays 50s and 60s hits, will perform.

Sunday events open with 9 a.m. church service, followed by the Blue Clover band performing at 11 a.m., in the grandstands. The band plays traditional Irish music, Celtic/folk songs.

The parade will again start at 1 p.m.; the tractor pull begins at 3:30 p.m. The open tractor pull is for 1957 and older.

Country BBQs will be open from 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday, and will open at 11:30 a.m., Sunday. Big Allis will also be available for viewing in the Ag Hall south of the fairgrounds.
