‘SHOP STAFF DESERVE STATE RECOGNITION’

l LOCAL Gala store owner Laurence O’Brien believes that frontline workers who continued to work in grocery outlets through the Covid-19 pandemic deserve more recognition from the Government. Praising his staff, Mr O’Brien said, “Retail employees that went to work throughout the pandemic didn’t get any additional support from the State and there are no future plans – like a tax break – to recognise them for their efforts either. The rest of the country was getting a pandemic payment for staying at home. “I just think that all the employees in convenience stores and supermarkets should be recognised for their effort in keeping the country supplied with essential food and drink. Clare woman extends gratitude in her dying weeks PĂ RAIC McMAHON

ARLIER this year, one Clare woman expressed her appreciation for the care and warmth she was receiving from nurses in University Hospital Limerick. “They look after you as if you were one of their own family,� she stated.

During an off-the-record conversation with this writer, the lady requested that her identity be withheld but appealed for some sort of gratitude to be extended to the men and women that managed to leave a lasting positive effect on her life.
