NTERNAL PROCEDURES to deal with bullying in Clare County Council have been slammed by one Oireachtas member. Senator Timmy Dooley (FF) when contributing to a debate on violence against women spoke of a former female employee of Clare County Council who made a complaint of bullying in the local authority against a now ex councillor.

Had it been a man that took the case, the ex-councillor would not have “lawyered up”, Senator Dooley claimed. A spokesperson for Clare County Council told The Clare Echo that it “takes all allegations of harassment, sexual harassment and bullying very seriously and handles them in accordance with the Council’s robust policies and procedures for Dignity at Work. The Council has no comment on the story outlined below”.
