NNIS journalist Zainab Boladale has publicly responded to a group of anonymous racist bullies who have aimed racial slurs at her over a prolonged period. The 23-year-old Irish speaker who works with RTÉ decided to bring the issue to public light after admitting to becoming “really fed up and irritated”. “Whenever people of colour or from minority backgrounds are in the public eye, they undeniably get a lot of racism. You see it all the time,” she told RTÉ’s Nuacht.
A number of anonymous Twitter users relentlessly pursued Ms Boladale, admonishing her to, “get out of Celtic Lands”, whilst another commented, “Consider yourself Irish all you want but you are Nigerian.” Zainab’s decision to speak out publicly came from a decline in her mental health over the last two years, in the face of the incessant abuse she received.
