NEXT STOP: SHANNON
Events in Shannon ‘like Wild West’ VENTS that occurred in Shannon over a four day period in the past week have been compared with scenes from “the Wild West”. Tensions had been building between two families within the town prior to the release of a firearm on Wednesday last. No individuals were injured in this incident but it caused deep worry within the community. A Garda investigation later resulted in the retrieval of the firearm and the arrests of two men. Sergeant Seamus Mulligan has told The Clare Echo that calm has returned to Shannon amid vocal concerns since the incident. Cllr Gerry Flynn (IND) was among those to air his frustrations. Speaking at a meeting of the Shannon Municipal District on Tuesday he expressed the view that the activity in Shannon resembled the Wild West in what he coined “absolutely disgraceful behaviour”.
