ROCHE HGV TRAFFIC: A CLARIFICATION THE front page of last week’s Clare Echo newspaper carried a story claiming there would be 360,360 HGV journeys over a seven-year period as part of the planned decommissioning of Roche. The Clare Echo would like to clarify that this information is inaccurate. As per their planning application to Clare County Council under the section ‘trip generation’ (4.4), Roche Ireland Ltd states that: “A CTMP will be implemented to control vehicular movement along the proposed haulage route, including restriction on the number of HGVs and EHGVs to the following during the Proposed Development working hours: • Average of 15 HGVs/hour comprising of approximately 12 EHGVs per hour supplemented by approximately 3 diesel HGVs • Peaks of 18 HGVS/hour comprising of approximately 15 EHGVs per hour supplemented by approximately 3 diesel HGVs per hour. It is anticipated that the Project Demolition and Remediation Programme will begin in 2021 and be completed by 2024. Based on the current schedule, in 2025 there will be no further traffic generation arising from the Proposed Development (subject to planning consents).â€? According to Roche Ireland Ltd’s public consultation document (available at https://rochedecommissioning.consultation.ai/), there will be an estimated 63,000 HGV movements associated with the site decommissioning over the duration of the project. As outlined in the traffic and transport assessment (3.2.3.2), hours of working will be between 07.00 and 19.00 Monday to Friday and 08.00 to 14.00 on Saturday. The Clare Echo is happy to make this clarification and wishes to apologise for any undue upset caused as a result of our error.

ON YER BIKE! Clare business woman praised by community for refusing tourists PĂ RAIC McMAHON news@clareecho.ie

A

North Clare business woman has received praise from all over Ireland after declining to take a booking from overseas visitors who had failed to quarantine for a period of 14 days after flying into the country. Janet Cavanagh of E-Whizz received a

booking on Saturday night from visitors. Having first noticed that they had Irish names, she enquired to see where they were from and upon learning they were American and didn’t believe they should quarantine for fourteen days, she made the decision to cancel their guided cycle. “I don’t believe people should be allowed to break those rules, I know some rules are harmless when you break them but I don’t think this rule is harmless. FULL STORY PAGE 4
