LARE’S INCLUSION in €2.7bn defective concrete block scheme is a step in the right direction but affected homeowners remain furious with how they’ve been treated by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage. Both Clare and Limerick were finally included in the redress scheme, at an estimated cost of €500m, joining Donegal and Mayo. Activists in Clare have been campaigning since September 2020 for the county
to be included in the scheme. Members of the Pyrite Action Group have yet to receive concrete detail on what the development this week means for them. “There is something very wrong that the biggest grant in the history of the State appears to be going through without pre-legislative scrutiny,” Dr Martina Cleary, founder of the Action Group told The Clare Echo. She remained critical of the Department, “what they’ve put us through in county is extraordinary, we met the IS465 criteria for inclusion in July but they put us through prolonged stress
