VER 800 people have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in Co Clare over the past fortnight. Clare’s highest level of infection since the start of the pandemic has been attributed to an intensified period of social gatherings and widespread community transmission in the lead up to
Christmas. Widespread household gatherings during the festive period have added to the amount of confirmed cases, The Clare Echo has learned. A subsequent increase in cases has been recorded in nursing homes and residential care facilities. Data validated by the Health Protection Surveillance Centre confirmed that on January 2nd, the county recorded its highest ever daily increase of cases when a total of 183 confirmed cases were announced in Clare over a 24 hour period.
