AN ORAL hearing is to be held to discuss the future of Blake’s Corner, writes Páraic McMahon. A compulsory purchase order was published by Clare County Council for the traffic blackspot in June, 2020 with a dozen submissions received by An Bord Pleanála. No definitive date has been issued by An Bord Pleanála for the oral hearing, these are held for complex cases. Council officials received a letter on Friday detailing that no further progress would be made until July. In 2018, planning was granted for works with an estimated cost of €7m which intend to improve access to Ennistymon, the construction of a new bridge over the Inagh River and pedestrianising Michael Conway bridge which is currently listed as a protected structure.

CLARE Direct Provision resident has said the longer the wait for his international protection application, the more danger his family in Afghanistan are facing. Delays experienced for applicants for international protection have been

experienced during the pandemic by Direct Provision residents across the country. Sayed Farid Sanai has been living at the Clare Lodge since November 2019. He was forced to flee his native Afghanistan due to threats on his life by the Taliban. The TV news anchor has remained separated from his family ever-since and detailed that the wait for his international protection is prolonging the danger his loved ones are in. He is terrified that the persons responsible for killing members of the media in his native country will find

his family. During his time living in Clare, he has worked with Fabricated Products in Shannon but the ongoing wait for protection and growing fears in Afghanistan has battered his mentality. “I didn’t come here for myself or to protect myself, I need to do something for my family to bring them here, the reason I’m really worried about the life of my son, my mother and my wife is they face the problem”.
