LARE County Council were made aware of pyrite problems in the county as far back as April 2018 yet only submitted a report to the Department of Housing to seek inclusion in a redress scheme last month. Chief Executive of the local authority, Pat Dowling was informed three years ago by Clare TD, Joe Carey (FG) that homes in the county
were infected with pyrite and that it was recommended to seek inclusion in a remediation scheme, similar to the approach in Limerick. No response was received by Deputy Carey from Mr Dowling when the alarm was first sounded. Minister for Housing, Darragh O’Brien (FF) has told members of the Clare Pyrite Action Group that they will know within “a matter of weeks” if they are to be included in the redress scheme.
