Arts & Culture: Mark Brown

Mark Brown stands as one of Antigua’s preeminent contemporary artists. His bold work fearlessly challenges the traditional boundaries of Caribbean art with its vulnerable exploration of human nature. Drawing inspiration from his heritage, religion and complex inner world, his larger-than-life size canvases confront the viewer with challenging questions regarding life, choices and journeys.

From an early age, Mark exhibited a natural aptitude for art, garnering recognition amongst his peers even before completing his secondary education. Balancing his role as an art teacher, he continued to hone his craft whilst designing stage sets for major local events, working as a stylist and curating high-end wedding experiences. After studying for a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Barbados, his career began to take off to greater heights, earning him numerous accolades.

Renowned globally, his art resides in prestigious collections and, private homes - including that of the singer Diana Ross - and has had exhibitions in New York, Toronto, France and across the English and French West Indies.
