Are You Ready To Face The Coming Famine? earthquakes and wars are going to be the order of the day. The Bible tells us about 15 famines. Thirteen of them have already happened - from the time of Abraham to the time of Apostle Paul the Scriptures talk about 13 famines. The famines of the last days the ones that Julian Cribb warns about in his book have already been prophesied by Jesus Christ. But there’s another famine that is even more dreadful the famine of the Word of God. The Coming Famine that this message deals with is the famine of the Word of God. Amos 8:11-13 talk about this famine. “Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord God, “that I will send a famine on the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord. They shall wander from sea to sea, and from north to east; They shall run to and fro, seeking the word of the Lord, but shall not find it. “In that day the fair virgins and strong young men shall faint from thirst.” This famine will come in a time when ‘the end has come upon My people Israel’ (verse 2). The coming famine of the Word of God concerns both the nation of Israel and the body of Christ (the church). In God’s calendar of the last days, the Antichrist will
BY ROBIN SAM IN his book, ‘The Coming Famine’, journalist and science writer Julian Cribb writes: ‘The era of cheap, abundant food is over.’ He says, in the book, that we have passed the peak of oil production. From now on, it’s all going to be downhill. Not just oil, he says we have passed the peaks for water and land. Soon, the painful truth about food supplies will hit us in the face. While wealthy nations such as the US, Germany, France and the UK experience food shortages and rising prices, the poorer countries will go deeper into starvation. There are two elephants in the kitchen (population growth and overconsumption), he says that most do not see. In Matthew 24:6-7, Jesus Christ has already warned us of famines in the last days. ‘And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places.’ The diligent reader of the Word of God already knows that end times, if they are not already here, will soon be upon us. THE MESSAGE emerge as the supreme leader of a conglomerate of nations. Not satisfied with a political title, he would also usurp the role of a global spiritual leader. Many faiths that exist now will toe his line, but the church will go through a period of intense tribulation. How would this famine of the Word come about? Are there any indications available now that it is in the making? The Bible has enough warnings to those who will hear. Jesus said “many will come in My name… and will deceive many” before His return (Matthew 24:5). The church will see the meteoric rise of false preachers who will preach another gospel and another Jesus (2 Corinthians 11:1–4). In the name of ecumenism many faiths will come together and examine if they can co-exist under one supreme leader by drawing principles from all religions. One world order, one currency, one religion and one leader will not just be slogans and ideas but a reality in the end times. The run-up to those times have already started. Many leaders from different faiths have already begun meeting and exchanging ideas. The World Council of Churches founded in 1948 to bring together various Christian churches to “seek visible unity in one faith and one Eucharistic fellowship” readily embraced Pope Francis when he was elected in 2013 and decided to “develop a wholeness in our ecumenical work.” This readiness to embrace each other in spite of the inherent ideological and doctrinal differences means Protestant and Catholic churches will soon find ways to break bread together in a unified, reformed and codified service. This ecumenical thrust will mean the Protestant church may be forced to discard its evangelical convictions. Remember the crocodile and the monkey story? The church has always had three enemies - Satan, the world and false preachers. While the first two seek to destroy the church from the outside, the third group silently chips away at the foundations from within. In the last days, people will have a form of godliness but deny its power (2 Timothy 3:5). In the prelude to the last days, a muscular and militant type of religious fervor will grip the tormentors of the church. Jesus Christ has already warned about it in John 16:2. ‘They will put you out of the synagogues; yes, the time is coming that whoever kills you will think that he offers God service.’ Suppression of truth and propagation of lies has already become the means to stay in power for many governments across the world. In the last days, the Antichrist will use these tactics to his advantage. Many people who were true adherents of the faith will fall away. Their love will wax cold due to the multiplication of wickedness (Matthew 24:12). THE CHRISTIAN MESSENGER w SEPTEMBER 2020

The last days will see the rise of many false teachers who will ‘bring in destructive heresies.’ They will mock true practitioners of the Word and ridicule biblical doctrines. They will twist the Scriptures to support their destructive heresies (2 Peter 2:1-2). They will give in to heresies because they have itching ears (2 Timothy 4:3). True Biblical Christian preaching will not be tolerated in the time leading to the famine of the Word of God. They will twist the Scriptures to support their destructive heresies (2 Peter 2:1-2). False teachings will spread like cancer in the church due to the rise of many like Hymenaeus and Philetus (2 Tim. 2:17). The teachings will come from those who have already put away their faith and made a shipwreck concerning their faith (1 Tim. 1:20). The only way to escape this famine is to seek the Lord while He may be found (Isaiah 55:6), kiss the Son lest He be angry and you perish in the way (Psalm 2:12), be on the alert and stand firm in the faith (1 Corinthians 16:13) and take heed to yourself and to the doctrine (1 Tim. 4:16). The psalmist offers us excellent advice: ‘I have stored what you have said in my heart, so I won’t sin against you’ (Psalm 119:11). As Apostle Paul says: ‘Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.’

Computer tablets for translators WYCLIFFE Associates, an international organization that works in the advancement of Bible translation, is providing computer tablets and virtual tools to help mother-tongue translators continue their work in spite of COVID-19 and oppression from anti-Christian authorities. “The work of translating God’s Word already was challenging, especially in remote areas of the world, and especially in places of intense anti-Christian persecution,” says Bruce Smith, President and CEO of Wycliffe Associates. “Then came the coronavirus.” In response to COVID-19, Wycliffe Associates is providing V-MAST, a way to continue the translation process virtually. Translators use computer tablets loaded with translation software along with uplinks to online translation tools.
Sudan separates state from religion SUDAN’S transitional government has agreed in principle to separate religion and state after three decades of Islamic rule in the country. Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok and Abdel-Aziz Adam alHilu, the leader of the rebel SPLM-North faction, signed a declaration of principles in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, Sept 3 that says, “The state shall not establish an official religion. No citizen shall be discriminated against based on their religion.” The two leaders agreed to recognize and respect the country’s diversity. The agreement is an important step toward achieving lasting peace in the country.
Christians in Iran approaching 1 million MISSIOLOGISTS have long spoken of the explosive growth of the church in Iran. Now they have data to back up their claims—from secular research. According to a new survey of 50,000 Iranians—90 percent residing in Iran—by GAMAAN, a Netherlands-based research group, 1.5 percent identified as Christian. Extrapolating over Iran’s population of approximately 50 million literate adults (the sample surveyed) yields at least 750,000 believers. According to GAMAAN, the number of Christians in Iran is “without doubt in the order of magnitude of several hundreds of thousands and growing beyond a million.” The traditional Armenian and Assyrian Christians in Iran number 117,700, according to the latest government statistics.
Turkey turns historic church into mosque THE Turkish government formally converted a former Byzantine church into a mosque in late August, a move that came a month after it drew praise from Muslims and international opposition for similarly turning Istanbul’s landmark Hagia Sophia into a Muslim house of prayer. A decision by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Istanbul’s Church of St. Saviour in Chora, known as Kariye in Turkish, was handed to Turkey’s religious authority, which would open up the structure for Muslim prayers. Like the Hagia Sophia, which was a church for centuries and then a mosque for centuries more, the historic Chora church had operated as a museum for decades before Erdogan ordered it restored as a mosque. The church dates to the fourth century, although the edifice took on its current form in the 11th–12th centuries.

AS part of our outreach in areas under our mission fields and beyond, Messenger Missions is shipping woollen blankets to the poor and the underprivileged people in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha. These woollen clothes will be distributed among the poor and the underprivileged by our missionaries.
