As the school year comes to an end, I’d like to thank all the members who made themselves available to speak with students this year; from the skills needed to enter the workforce to career opportunities, to how to start your own business. We have worked for years to build better communication between education and business, and it appears to be working. I’d like to thank our educational partners for inviting businesses into the classroom to share their stories with students.

Our Annual Golf Outing will be Thursday, June 12 at Shaker Run Golf Club. We are encouraging businesses to invite a client to town for a day on one of the most popular and challenging courses in southwest Ohio. A link to registration and list of sponsors can be found here. We thank the staff at Shaker Run and all our sponsors for helping us put on this signature event.

The Rising Storm

You can’t prepare for a storm if you don’t know it’s coming.

The US faces a shortfall of millions of workers in the decade to come. Workforce strategies need to adapt, but if you don’t know what changes lie in store, you can’t know what changes to make in response.

The disruption ahead is like a hurricane. TheRisingStormoutlines a few items to consider, providing insight on when the storm will arrive.

The news is not comforting the most acute shortages of workers will arrive in under a decade, primarily in the next five years, and the industries hardest hit are among those our society relies on most, including healthcare and construction.

Passport To Tomorrow

Highview 6th Grade Center, students partnered with volunteers from Junior Achievement to create and run a pop-up business. As young entrepreneurs, they designed, produced, and sold handmade keychains, bookmarks, and bracelets, gaining valuable experience in business planning, marketing, and teamwork.

Middletown Middle School visited Vega Americas, Inc. in Mason, Ohio, as part of the partnership with Adopt A Class. Based on their interest surveys, students were matched with a trip focused on manufacturing, STEM, and engineering. They toured the company’s factory and offices and had the chance to speak directly with employees about their careers and daily work.

Seventy-five 7th-grade students from Middletown Middle School participated in Heroes Day at Lunken Airport, also hosted by Adopt A Class. This inspiring event gives students the chance to meet and learn from military personnel and first responders, broadening their understanding of public service careers.
