2022 has come and gone, seemingly in the blink of an eye. Most of us have returned to our pre-pandemic normal, and this includes our Chamber. Ann, Kathie, and Rick have been busy supporting the businesses of Middletown, Monroe, and Trenton through innovative programs, focused political functions, professional and educational partnerships, and very enjoyable social events.

The Chamber’s continued focus on our business members and their most pressing needs has been the driving force behind each and every program administered. This dedication to the betterment of the membership is evident in the daily work of the team.

A continued focus throughout the year has been Skills2Careers. This innovative program matching the skills needed by hiring companies to the skills of job seekers has continued to blossom. With dozens of local jobs posted through the site and hundreds of job seekers logged in, The Chamber continues to hone in on the single greatest need of our local business community – workforce. This program’s success is the result of hundreds of hours by our Chamber team and the development company, Lightcast (formerly Emsi-Burning Glass ). If your company is searching for qualified talent, be sure to reach out to Rick for more information on getting involved with Skills2Careers.

It goes without saying, but still needs to be said, we couldn’t do any of this without the dedication of our Chamber team: Ann, Kathie, and Rick. Their tireless efforts to support our membership are certainly noticed and we thank them for all they do. We’re excited to see what 2023 has in store for The Chamber and membership. If 2022 is any indication – it should be a great year.

Having joined The Chamber in 2020, the last two years have been a breath of fresh air in comparison, especially with our successes in 2022. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of our chamber staff, Ann, Kathie, and Rick have done a tremendous job day-to-day as they work diligently to grow our membership and, together, we are finding ways to adapt to the ongoing needs of our business community here in Middletown, Monroe, and Trenton.

As Rob mentioned, our Skills2Careers is a phenomenal program in which we have invested a lot of time, energy, and investment. And we are confident that it will continue to help job seekers and our local businesses alike which, in turn, will help us build a stronger and smarter, future workforce.

During my time here, I’ve had the pleasure of serving with our Chamber Advocacy & Government Relations Committee, which has been a very rewarding experience. We meet monthly to talk about what’s happening in our communities, both the successes and the challenges. And I’ve gained a new appreciation for what our elected and government officials are doing each day. It takes a lot of determination and patience to take an idea and find a path to convert that idea into law. Additionally, it takes good stewardship and wisdom to ensure that our tax dollars are being spent judiciously. It’s great to have a forum where our business owners can meet with our local leaders to discuss what’s important in our communities. If you’re not taking advantage of this opportunity, please talk to Rick or myself and we will get you the details.

Our hard work over the past few years has been paying off and we know that we’re on the cusp of some great things here at The Chamber. We are looking forward to the opportunities that lie ahead in 2023, and we thank you for your support along the way.

PRES/CEOMESSAGE

I’ll agree with the statement that Rob made, about 2022, it did go by in the blink of an eye. The years have gone by quickly.

2022 afforded us the opportunity to focus more closely on the workforce challenges facing our members. Skills2Careers is a gamechanging technology that matches job seekers with employers who need those skills. No longer does an individual have to search for employment by name of company or name of position.

Another very exciting partnership from 2022, is the 34 endorsing companies and organizations who have agreed to endorse the Passport to Tomorrow (P2T) strategic plan of Middletown City Schools. To remind everyone, the plan brings our Future Ready Skill Set to life in the classroom and begins to deliver a set of necessary skills to students that will aid them in life after high school, regardless of their career path. Middletown City Schools has added a dedicated person, Jen Hayes, to be the liaison between the instructors of P2T and the business community. It makes it so much easier to now communicate with the schools and those endorsing organizations.

To chamber members and businesses in our service area, we make the following pledge in everything we do, we believe in fostering a prosperous business environment that builds and supports a thriving community. We strive to identify creative solutions to challenges that affect our members.

The success of this organization lies in the commitment of our members. We are excited about 2023 and what it can bring and we’ll continue our efforts on solving our member’s workforce challenges.
