DEAR FRIENDS, It’s hard to believe 2017 is already upon us, but the start of a new year provides a nice opportunity to take stock of where we are and look ahead at what’s to come.

Here at the Center for the Performing Arts, we’re looking forward to a great schedule of upcoming events as we continue our sixth season.

Especially exciting is our inaugural Songbook Academy® All-Stars concert on Jan. 7.

Each summer, the Great American Songbook Foundation brings together the nation’s top high school vocalists for its Songbook Academy®. Only one is named Songbook Youth Ambassador for the coming year, performing with Foundation founder Michael Feinstein at such venues as Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center.

On this special night, for the first time, we will welcome back all seven Ambassadors for an unforgettable evening of music at the Palladium. We look forward to seeing these vibrant young performers again and celebrating their many successes. Among them is our 2014 Ambassador, Maddie Baillio, who played the central role of Tracy Turnblad in NBC’s December broadcast of Hairspray Live!

Beyond that, we’re bringing you a wide variety of arts and entertainment in January and February. From country stars Sara Evans and Martina McBride to the classical sounds of Venice Baroque and the Prague Philharmonia to the jazz of the Yellowjackets and the Beatles tribute band “1964,” there’s something for virtually any taste.

Opening Jan. 17 in the Songbook Foundation Exhibit Gallery at the Palladium is a new exhibition dedicated to the great Ella Fitzgerald. Also coming up are a number of education and outreach events for all ages, including our very first standup comedy classes, a meeting of our Palladium Bookies book discussion club, monthly Peanut Butter & Jam sessions for preschoolers and two sessions of our Dance Discovery Series. The Songbook Academy® is a summer music intensive for young singers who have an interest in the Great American Songbook. Students who love the music of classic Broadway shows, jazz, and popular music have the life-changing opportunity to work with music industry pros, award winning singers and performers, and educators from the top university music and theatre programs in the country.

Julia Bonnett, from Carmel, Indiana, was the first ever winner of the Songbook Academy® in 2009. Following her win, she made her national debut at Feinstein’s at Loews Regency in New York City. Julia shared the stage with Michael Feinstein and Emmy and Tony Award winner David Hyde Pierce for the opening gala celebration for the Center for the Performing Arts. She has been featured in concert with the Carmel Symphony Orchestra and Indiana Wind Symphony. Julia’s theatrical credits include starring roles in The Drowsy Chaperone, Into the Woods, and Little Women at the Booth Tarkington Civic Theatre. She received rave reviews for her recent performance as Belle in Beauty and the Beast at Beef & Boards Dinner Theater in Indianapolis. Julia is a graduate of Indiana University.

Annie Yokom, from Chicago, Illinois, was the 2010 winner of the Songbook Academy®. She made her national debut at Feinstein’s at Loews Regency in New York City and recently joined Michael Feinstein in concert at the Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts. Annie is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University, where she received a BFA in musical theatre.

She has appeared in regional theaters across the country, including Pittsburgh CLO and Wagon Wheel Theater. She made her national television debut on Fox TV’s Prison Break and has appeared on PBS. Annie just fulfilled her lifelong dream to move to New York City, where she has been busy auditioning and singing her heart out wherever she can. Thanks to Michael Feinstein and everyone at the Great American Songbook Foundation for their endless support -and for keeping this wonderful music alive. Nick Ziobro was the 2012 winner of the Songbook Academy® and served as the Songbook Youth Ambassador. A native of Manlius, New York, he is now a junior at Rider University. In his role as Songbook Youth Ambassador, Nick shared the stage with Michael Feinstein, Marvin Hamlisch, and Barry Manilow, among other notables. He has appeared at venues such as Carnegie Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, and with the Pasadena Pops Orchestra. He made his national television debut on NBC’s America’s Got Talent. His debut album – A Lot Of Livin’ To Do – produced by Michael Feinstein and featuring jazz greats Bucky Pizzarelli, Tedd Firth, Jay Leonhart and more – was released in May 2014. Julia Goodwin, a recent high school graduate from Baldwinsville, New York, was the 2013 winner of the Songbook Academy® and served as the Songbook Youth Ambassador. She was featured in Michael Feinstein’s New Year’s Eve special on PBS, along with Darren Criss, Aaron Tveit, and Christine Ebersole. Julia also appeared on ABC’s Inside Edition and NBC’s America’s Got Talent. She has performed at venues such as Carnegie Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, and Birdland Jazz Club. Julia’s current album features "unplugged" versions of some of her favorite Great American Songbook standards. She is in her freshman year at Syracuse University. Maddie Baillio, from League City, Texas, was the 2014 winner of the Songbook Academy® and served as the Songbook Youth Ambassador.

In this role, Maddie performed to capacity audiences at venues such as Carnegie Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, and Birdland Jazz Club with Michael Feinstein. She recently completed her sophomore year at Marymount Manhattan College, where she starred as Winnifred in Once upon a Mattress and in the title role of Frank Wildhorn’s Dracula.

Maddie recently won the coveted role of Tracy Turnblad in the upcoming NBC production of Hairspray Live! She joins a star studded cast for the December 7 production, including Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson, Tony winners Harvey Fierstein, Martin Short, and Kristin Chenoweth, and Pop superstar Ariana Grande.

Lucas DeBard, of Lebanon, Indiana, was the 2015 winner of the Songbook Academy® and served as the Songbook Youth Ambassador. In that role, Lucas represented the Great American Songbook Foundation in performances across the country in such venues as the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, and the Sunnylands retreat in California. Lucas was thrilled to join Michael Feinstein for his holiday engagement at Feinstein’s/54 Below in New York City. He is currently working on a solo show that will feature his many talents as a singer and instrumentalist. Lucas is a sophomore at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, where he studies music education and jazz studies.

Brighton Thomas was the winner of the 2016 Songbook Academy® and now serves as the new Songbook Youth Ambassador. She is a senior at John Burroughs High School in Burbank, California, where she is active in the school’s award-winning show choir and musical theatre programs.

Over the next year, Brighton will have multiple opportunities to perform and represent the Songbook Foundation across the country. She will make her first official performance as Songbook Youth Ambassador at the Great American Songbook Hall of Fame Gala on October 15. Brighton will make her New York City debut at Feinstein’s/54 Below on December 16.

HAVEN’T LOST THEIR STING Jazz quartet going strong after more than three decades.

By Jay Harvey Thirty-five years is a long time for a jazz group to hold together, but it helps when the music can evolve with the shifts in personnel.

Jazz-rock fusion was a popular description for Yellowjackets’ approach when they arose in the wake of Herbie Hancock’s Headhunters, the Mahavishnu Orchestra and post-Bitches Brew Miles Davis. Because their spirit is so focused on collaboration, however, the band today is quite different from what it was at the start, in the late 1970s, as a gathering of session musicians 10

behind guitarist Robben Ford.

Nonetheless, Yellowjackets’ identity is broadly fixed in the public mind and has been rewarded by international fame and two Grammy Awards. Many of the band’s influences over the years come together in its latest album, Cohearence, released in April 2016. Like its predecessors, the collection showcases a band that keyboardist Russell Ferrante has defined as “four people with equal say.” Any changes in artistic direction have corresponded with changes in the lineup.

The first major shift occurred early on, when Ford’s record label encouraged him to pursue a more vocal and pop-oriented direction. That led to an amicable split from the men he had recruited to support his funk- and R&Binfluenced sound: keyboardist Ferrante, bass guitarist Jimmy Haslip and drummer Ricky Lawson.

But that was not before the quartet had notched its 1981 recording debut, Yellowjackets, adding to the history of insect-derived band names. (The precedent of

the Beatles, a name inspired by Buddy Holly’s Crickets, has not been mentioned in Yellowjackets interviews.)

“Jimmy brought us a list of possible names, most just awful,” Ferrante recalled. “The one that popped out was Yellowjackets, as it seemed to connote something lively, energetic and something with a ‘sting.’”

After taking some time to tour with other projects, the remaining three members regrouped to record Mirage a Trois, which earned their first of 17 Grammy nominations. The addition of alto saxophonist Marc Russo in 1983 solidified the band.

A second sea change occurred in 1998 – during a period also marked by changes in management and label – with the departure of drummer Will Kennedy, who had replaced Lawson in the mid-1980s. The band maintained its busy schedule with a series of drummers before Marcus Baylor provided some stability during this century’s first decade.

Kennedy returned to the drum chair in 2011, but the following year, Haslip left for family reasons. The current bassist is Dane Alderson, who joined in April 2015 and played on Cohearance, the band’s 23rd album.

As always, all four members contribute compositions, though the pieces often undergo thorough revision in rehearsal.

As multi-reed player Bob Mintzer, who replaced Russo in 1991, explained: “In the process of everybody getting their mitts on it, it’s going to change.”

A recipe for trouble? Not so.

“We’ve always found a way to reach a consensus without people’s feelings getting too bruised,” Ferrante said.

“It’s been a partnership from the very beginning,” Mintzer agreed. “There’s never been a leader of this band.”

Depending on the era, various labels have been applied to Yellowjackets, more or less appropriately. Were they “smooth jazz” or “progressive rock,” for instance?

To this band, such categories are irrelevant.

“We’re always trying to balance the familiar and those things that really feel good and create a warm feeling,” Ferrante said, “with those things that will challenge us and invigorate us artistically.”

Program Notes Chopiniana grew out of Chopin’s Seventh Waltz and had its premiere on February 23, 1907. The favorite oeuvre of its creator, Mikhail Fokine, this work has now become standard repertoire for many of the world’s leading theatres.

Chopiniana does not have a traditional plot. The curtain opens to reveal a picturesque group of ballerinas, frozen in anticipation, the embodiment of the Young Man’s dream. The women rise like a romantic vision, circle 12

around the Young Man, spread out like a light fog and then freeze again in their original poses.

This ballet is in one regard a timeless poetic example of stylization, and in another, a work set distinctly in its own period. Fokine incorporated the cultural experiences of the past and the blossoming ideas of the present, thus saturating the work with universal significance. It is not the characters in the ballet that develop, but rather the themes, moods and feelings.

Program Notes The impetus for the creation of Carmen was the cherished dream of celebrated Russian ballerina Maya Plisetskaya to depict the highstrung and riveting character in a ballet. Initially banned by the Soviet hierarchy as "disrespectful" to the opera for precisely these qualities, the ballet has since become Shchedrin's best-known work and has remained popular in the West as what reviewer James Sanderson of allmusic.com calls "an iconoclastic but highly entertaining retelling of Bizet's opera."

Soldier Don JosĂŠ falls in love with Carmen, a cigarette vendor, but she later abandons him for the toreador Escamillo. Don JosĂŠ suffers from an unhealthy passion for Carmen; he can no longer endure this situation and he urges her to come back to him. Carmen, who loves her freedom above all things and who does not accept being (Continued on next page.) 13

controlled by anyone, denies him the opportunity. Fate, an ambiguous character who takes on the shape of a bull, sketches the tragic conclusion of this exhilarating love story.

The program says, "Carmen is a beautiful woman who is free, true to herself, and completely honest. Don JosĂŠ lies, and thus he loses her. The Bull represents Fate. Therefore Carmen and the Bull die at the same time because she and her Fate are one." The final pas de deux, a danced contest between Carmen and Don JosĂŠ, is a simulated bullfight in which the ballerina assumes the combined roles of heroine and Fate in the form of a bull.

Russian National Ballet Theatre The Russian National Ballet Theatre was founded in Moscow during the transitional period of Perestroika in the late 1980s, when many of the great dancers and choreographers of the Soviet Union's ballet institutions were exercising their newfound creative freedom by starting new, vibrant companies dedicated not only to the timeless tradition of classical Russian Ballet, but also to invigorating this tradition as the Russians began to accept new developments in dance from around the world.

The company, then titled the Soviet National Ballet, was founded by and incorporated graduates from the great Russian choreographic schools of Moscow, St. Petersburg and Perm. The principal dancers of the company came from the upper ranks of the great ballet companies and academies of Russia, and the companies of Riga, Kiev and even Warsaw. Today, the Russian National Ballet Theatre is its own institution, with over 50 dancers of singular instruction and vast experience, many of whom have been with the company since its inception. In addition to their extensive tour history, beginning in January 2017 the company will embark upon a four month coast-to-coast tour of the United States.

In 1994, the legendary Bolshoi principal dancer Elena Radchenko was selected by Presidential decree to assume the first permanent artistic directorship of the company. Radchenko is the founder of the Russian National Ballet Theatre, and she has focused the Company on upholding the grand national tradition of the major Russian ballet works and developing new talents throughout Russia, with a repertory of virtually all of the great full works of Petipa: Don Quixote, La Bayadere, The Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, Raymonda, Paquita, Coppelia and La Sylphide, as well as productions of, among others, The Nutcracker, Sylvia, and La Fille Mal Gardee.

PKF - Prague Philharmonia The PKF - Prague Philharmonia, originally called the Prague Philharmonia, was founded in 1994 at the initiative of the world-famous conductor Jiří Bělohlávek to bring a breath of fresh air to the Czech and global music scenes in the form of a contagious élan and a drive to achieve superior performance of every detail of the score.

Soon after its founding, the PKF - Prague Philharmonia joined the ranks of the most respected Czech orchestras and established great renown in Europe and elsewhere in the world. In its “manifesto,” the orchestra highlighted vigor, energy, and perfectionism, as well as a tremendous love for the music, with which it imbues each and every concert.

The PKF - Prague Philharmonia is beloved for its characteristic sound, created in large part by the key focus of its repertoire: Viennese Classicism, pieces by Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Ludwig van Beethoven. This area is the ensemble's primary domain, and an area at which it excels. The art presented by the PKF - Prague Philharmonia is both exceptional and accessible to everyone.

The repertoire also includes Romance compositions, as well as modern and contemporary music, performed within a Special Concert series unique among the selections of Czech orchestras.

Since the beginning of the 2008-2009 season, the orchestra has been headed by Chief Conductor and Music Director Jakub Hrůša, who despite his young age already enjoys great international renown. The ensemble's founder, the globally celebrated Czech conductor Jiří Bělohlávek, was at its helm until 2005, when he was named the orchestra's Conductor Laureate.

From 2005 to 2008, the Chief Conductor of the PKF - Prague Philharmonia was the Swiss conductor and flautist Kaspar Zehnder. Since the beginning of the 2015-16 season, the post of Music Director and Chief Conductor will be taken by the distinguished French conductor Emmanuel Villaume.

The PKF - Prague Philharmonia is a regular guest at international music festivals, frequently performs at prestigious world concert halls, and is a regular partner of world-famous conductors and soloists including Vladimir Ashkenazy, Milan Turković, Jefim Bronfman, András Schiff, Shlomo Mintz, Sarah Chang, Isabelle Faust, Mischa Maisky, Magdalena Kožená, Anna Netrebko, Natalie Dessay, Rolando Villazón, Plácido Domingo, Elina Garanča, Juan Diego Flórez, Radek Baborák, Thomas Hampson and many others.

To date the orchestra has recorded more than 60 CDs for prominent Czech and foreign labels, including Deutsche Grammophon, Decca, Supraphon, EMI, Warner Music, and Harmonia Mundi. Some of its albums have received such prestigious accolades as the RAC Canada Gold Disc (2000), the Harmonie Award (2001) and the Diapason d'Or (September 2007).

Emmanuel Villaume, Music Director French-born conductor Emmanuel Villaume has led captivating performances with the most prominent opera companies and symphony orchestras around the world. In 2015 Villaume began his tenure as Music Director and Chief Conductor of the PKF - Prague Philharmonia. Recent projects with the PKF include a Deutsche Grammophon recording with Anna Netrebko, a Warner Classics release with Bryan Hymel and a New Year’s celebration concert at the Royal Opera House Muscat. Villaume is now entering his fourth season as Music Director of the Dallas Opera.

The Chicago Classical Review praised Villaume’s conducting of Roméo et Juliette at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, saying “Villaume is almost without peer in this repertory, and his conducting provides a virtual seminar in how French opera should be performed.” His recent orchestral performances include at New York’s Avery Fisher Hall for the 2014 Richard Tucker Gala, with the Juilliard Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Grant Park Music Festival, the White Nights Festival at the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg, Russia, and a European concert tour of Iolanta. He was Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the National Slovenian Philharmonic and Chief Conductor of the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra from 2009 to 2016. As author of noted articles of musicology, Villaume was appointed Dramaturg of the Opéra National du Rhin in Strasbourg at the age of 21.

Sarah Chang, Violin Recognized as one of the foremost violinists of our time, Sarah Chang has performed with the most esteemed orchestras, conductors and accompanists in an international career spanning more than two decades. Since her debut with the New York Philharmonic at age 8, Chang has continued to impress audiences with her technical virtuosity and refined emotional depth.

In 2006, Chang was listed in the 20 Top Women in Newsweek magazine’s “Women and Leadership," and in 2008, she was named a Young Global Leader for 2008 by the World Economic Forum. In 2012, she received the Harvard University Leadership Award, and in 2005, Yale University dedicated a chair in Sprague Hall in her name. In 2004, Chang carried the Olympic Torch in New York for the Olympic games, became the youngest person ever to receive the Hollywood Bowl's Hall of Fame award, and was awarded the Internazionale Accademia Musicale Chigiana Prize in Sienna, Italy.

Other previous distinctions include the Avery Fisher Career Grant, Gramophone’s “Young Artist of the Year” award, Germany’s “Echo” Schallplattenpreis, “Newcomer of the Year” honors at the International Classical Music Awards in London, and Korea’s “Nan Pa” award. Von Oeyen, of German and Dutch heritage, was born in the United States. He began his piano studies at age 5 and made his solo orchestral debut at age 10. An alumnus of Columbia University and graduate of The Juilliard School, where his principal teachers were Herbert Stessin and Jerome Lowenthal, he has also worked with Alfred Brendel and Leon Fleisher. He won the prestigious Gilmore Young Artist Award in 1999 and also took first prize in the Leni Fe Bland Foundation National Piano Competition in 2001. He lives in Paris and Los Angeles.

BELIEVING IN YESTERDAY ‘1964’ recreates the excitement of Beatlemania

By Scott Hall Mark Benson and his musician pals had only modest expectations back in 1984, when, tired of the Top 40 cover band grind, they threw together a couple sets of Beatles songs.

They figured the shtick might be good for a gig every month or two – an office party, a class reunion, maybe a nightclub date.

“We thought of this as something we would probably do at arm’s length, because it would just be fun,” says Benson, who plays the role of guitarist-vocalist John Lennon in the band known as “1964” … The Tribute. “It just took off. By the second year, it was full-time.”

More than three decades later – over three times the career span of the actual Beatles – the Akron, Ohiobased “1964” is still going strong as one of the busiest and most respected tribute bands in the field. In fact, they’ve been called the best Beatles tribute show around by none other than Rolling Stone magazine.

No one could be more surprised than Benson.

“You never could have told me in 1984 that we’d be playing Carnegie Hall 13 times,” he says. “You never could have told me that we’d sell out (Colorado amphitheatre) Red Rocks 12 years in a row. It’s just nuts, and it doesn’t show any signs of slowing up.”

Still playing more than 100 dates per year, the quartet will bring their eerily accurate re-creation of the Fab Four to the Palladium on Feb. 17.

Rounding out the lineup – complete with trademark suits, hairstyles, vintage guitars and witty banter – are fellow founding member Tom

In contrast to Broadway’s Beatlemania and other presentations that attempt to follow the band’s evolution, “1964” focuses specifically on the Beatles’ relatively brief touring era in the early to mid-1960s, when they electrified America on The Ed Sullivan Show and were greeted around the world by frenzied teens, overflow crowds and general pandemonium.

“You’d see these gate crashings and girls fainting,” Benson says.

“Even though every step of their career was memorable and iconic, to say the least, we wanted to focus on what people remember when they first came, so this is more of a concert than a story.”

However, while the Beatles’ historic live shows seldom exceeded 30 minutes, “1964” delivers a full evening of music that can easily exceed 30 songs. The repertoire ranges from early pop faves “She Loves You” and “I Want to Hold Your Hand” to Revolver- era rockers like “Taxman” and “Daytripper.”

No matter how great the material is, isn’t it a challenge for the band members – after more than 3,000 shows – to maintain their enthusiasm?

Though most critics agree on the consistent quality of the band’s output, analyzing and explaining it can be tricky.

Not at all, Benson says.

“You can hear one of their songs for the first time and walk away singing it,” Benson says. “They just had that knack, that chemistry of those four guys. No one since has had that ability, album after album after album.”

“It’s the audiences that keep it fresh for us,” he says. “When you see three generations of a family sitting in an audience, all singing, all smiling, and they leave happy – there are very few types of entertainment that can hold the attention of three generations for that length of time.

It’s pretty amazing.”

At one recent show, Benson recounts, a man and his 7-year-old grandson in the front row looked at each other in delighted recognition at the start of each song. They had geared up for the show by playing The Beatles: Rock Band video game, he learned afterward.

“They will never forget that night,” Benson says. “It’s not just something for people who grew up with it.

It brings everybody together, and they’re all just Beatle fans.”

Beyond any artistic and commercial success, however, what made the Beatles such a sweeping cultural phenomenon, and how do they retain their exalted status a halfcentury later? That’s not so hard for Benson to answer.

“It’s love, that’s what it is, in a word,” he says. “You look at how many of their songs are about love, or actually have ‘love’ in the title. And you don’t think about it, because it’s not sappy, but anybody can find a song in the Beatles catalog that they can relate to a certain part of their life, that makes them understand something better, or just feel better.”

A triple threat as singer, songwriter and record producer, McBride is returning for a third Palladium appearance with her Love Unleashed Tour.

The 14-time Grammy nominee hit the road last year on the heels of her 13th studio album, Reckless, a mix of classic country and contemporary edge that debuted at No. 2 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart.

Through a partnership with CMT’s “Next Women of Country,” which showcases rising stars, McBride is joined on this visit by 22-year-old Georgia native Lauren Alaina, who was named runner-up on the 10th season of American Idol. Alaina recently released a new single, “Road Less Traveled,” and began shooting her debut film of the same title.

YELLOWJACKETS Friday, February 24 at 8pm | The Palladium Yellowjackets have seen a few lineup changes over their 35-year history, but they have never compromised on the top-notch instrumental chops and compositional boldness that built their reputation as standard bearers for original, R&B-inflected fusion jazz.

Since forming in the late 1970s, initially to back up guitarist Robben Ford, the band has recorded over 20 albums, received 17 Grammy nominations (with two wins) and enjoyed worldwide critical acclaim and commercial success. The current roster comprises co-founder Russell Ferrante on keyboards and longtime members Bob Mintzer on reeds and William Kennedy on drums, joined by new recruit Dane Alderson on electric bass.

ABOUT THE CENTER The mission of the Center for the Performing Arts is to welcome, engage, inspire, and transform through compelling performing arts experiences in a world-class environment.

A home for world-class entertainment, the Center for the Performing Arts is a non-profit educational, arts and cultural organization that operates a 3-venue performing arts campus. Comprised of the Palladium, an acoustically magnificent 1,600-seat concert hall, the Tarkington, a 500-seat proscenium theater, and the Studio Theater, an intimate 200-seat black box, the Center’s campus hosts more than 400 events each year. Events include performances by community groups, public lectures and forums, business meetings, fundraisers, graduations, receptions, and weddings.

The Center for the Performing Arts has become the place where artists want to perform, people want to work, and the entire community is welcome to gather and celebrate. Accessible Parking: Accessible parking is available on the Center Green’s loop driveway, just south of the Palladium. Additional accessible valet parking is available at the west entrance on 3rd Avenue.

Arrival: Street level and elevator access is available in the Palladium’s West Lobby located at the 3rd Avenue entrance and is also available in the East Lobby located near the Monon Greenway.

Seating: Wheelchair accessible seating is located in various sections of the venues. Special seating arrangements may be made in advance by calling the box office at 317.843.3800.

PARKING

Valet: Beginning 1 hour before the performance time, valet parking is available on the Center Green’s loop driveway, at the Palladium’s south entrance. The valet service is sponsored by Land Rover Indianapolis & Jaguar Indianapolis.

The valet service is $15 or is complimentary for Jaguars and Land Rovers. Valet is only available for Center Presents performances at the Palladium.

Self-Park: Secure, on-site garage parking is located south of the Palladium.

Enter the Center’s parking garage off 3rd Avenue.

RESTROOMS

Restrooms are located in the lower Salon level, Payne & Mencias Box Tier and Gallery level of the Palladium, and on the first floor in the lobby of the Studio Theater and the Tarkington (all restrooms are handicap accessible.)

COAT CHECK

Coat check services are available on a seasonal basis at the west side of the lower Salon level near the restrooms at the Palladium. Coat room facilities are also available at the Tarkington and the Studio Theater.

FOOD & BEVERAGE

Concessions are available before the performance through intermission.

Food is not permitted in the theaters. Beverages purchased at the Center are allowed in the theaters.

ASSISTED LISTENING DEVICES

Assisted listening devices are available free of charge. Please see an usher to request one.

ELECTRONIC DEVICES

Use of cellular phones, pagers, cameras and recording devices are strictly prohibited in the theater. Please deactivate sounds on any electronic device so it will not disrupt the performance.

ABOUT THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK FOUNDATION The mission of the Great American Songbook Foundation is to inspire and educate by celebrating the Great American Songbook.

The beautiful melodies and thoughtful lyrics created by the musical geniuses of Tin Pan Alley, Broadway, and Hollywood during the first half of the twentieth century represent the Golden Age of American Popular Music.

The Great American Songbook Foundation carries out its unique mission to preserve America’s rich musical legacy in numerous ways: The Songbook Archives houses physical artifacts such as sheet music, personal papers, musical arrangements, and books available to students, educators, and researchers.

The Songbook Exhibit Gallery displays rotating interactive exhibits that share the history, music, and culture of the Songbook.

The Songbook Academy® is a national program for high school singers, and is the only competition dedicated to the music of the Songbook.

PERFECT Harmony provides music therapy programming to individuals with Alzheimer’s, dementia, and other neurodegenerative diseases.

The Songbook Hall of Fame recognizes those who have made a significant contribution to the Great American Songbook by inducting a new class each year. A permanent exhibit is located in the Shiel Sexton Songbook Lounge on the Palladium’s Gallery level. /SongbookFoundation
