Welcome It is with great enthusiasm that we share with you our 5th Anniversary Season presented by Allied Solutions! The Center has planned a stellar line-up that is sure to instill excitement worthy of celebration. In January 2011, our campus opened its first season with the much anticipated performance of Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and the Miro Quartet with Lynn Harrell. It’s hard to believe that we are already celebrating five years of amazing performances and we can’t think of a better way to kick off our 5th Anniversary than with the incomparable Harry Connick, Jr. on August 6th. With six dynamic subscription series featuring talent from around the world, the Center for the Performing Arts is Central Indiana’s leading destination for the widest range of music, dance, and cultural activities. Expect to be transformed and inspired with performances by Yo-Yo Ma, Joshua Bell and The Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, the Gatlin Brothers, Rosanne Cash, Frank Sinatra, Jr., Béla Fleck & Abigail Washburn, the Alvin Ailey II dancers, and more! Our annual Songbook Celebration Gala returns to the Palladium in October, and new this year is a New Year’s Eve Extravaganza. Our ever-expanding line-up ensures that each of our three performance spaces are brimming with activity throughout the year. Harry Connick, Jr.’s meteoric rise in the world of music was only a prelude to a multi-faceted career. This pianist, vocalist, composer, band leader, actor, and philanthropist has received awards and recognition for his live and recorded musical performances, and for his achievements on screens large and small, as well as the Broadway stage. Throughout his stellar career, Harry Connick, Jr. has earned three Grammy awards, two Emmy Awards, and two Tony nominations, and spearheaded efforts to help rebuild his hometown of New Orleans after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.

Royal Philharmonic Orchestra with Pinchas Zukerman January 10, 2016 at 7pm The Palladium Acknowledged as one of the UK’s most prodigious orchestras, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra enjoys an international reputation for bringing audiences worldwide first-class performances and the highest possible standards of music-making across a diverse range of musical repertoire. The concert will feature Mr. Zukerman as soloist in a performance of Beethoven’s Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 61.

The collegiate spirit and flexibility of the conductor-less ensemble remains an Academy hallmark which continues today, with virtuoso violinist Joshua Bell as its Music Director. Together they explore symphonic repertoire to perform ‘chamber music on a grand scale.’

Jeremy Denk, Piano April 24, 2016 at 3pm The Palladium Pianist Jeremy Denk is the winner of a 2013 MacArthur “Genius” Fellowship, the 2014 Avery Fisher Prize, and Musical America’s 2014 Instrumentalist of the Year award. Denk is one of America’s most thought-provoking, multi-faceted, and compelling artists.

Cleveland Orchestra May 15, 2016 at 7pm The Palladium Prepare to be amazed by one of the Top 10 orchestras in the world (Gramophone Magazine 2008). Under the leadership of music director Franz Welser-Möst, the Cleveland Orchestra has become one of the most sought after performing ensembles in the world. In concerts at its winter home at Severance Hall, in residencies from Miami to Vienna, and on tour around the world, the Cleveland Orchestra sets standards of artistic excellence, creative programming, and community engagement. The concert will include a performance of Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 1 in G minor.

Frank Sinatra, Jr. Sinatra Sings Sinatra The Centennial Celebration October 16, 2015 at 8pm The Palladium Sinatra Sings Sinatra is a one of a kind multi-media experience. In stories, photos, videos and songs, Frank Sinatra, Jr. delivers first-hand recollections of life on and off stage with his iconic father. This show explains it all with excerpts from his films, rare family photos and insights into the world’s greatest entertainer that can only come from his son.

Star of the stage and screen, Vikki Carr, has captivated audiences nationally and abroad for over 50 years. In her illustrious career she has garnered four Grammy Awards including a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Recording Academy and has released over 60 best‑selling recordings.

Michael Feinstein with Cheyenne Jackson March 5, 2016 at 8pm The Palladium The Great American Songbook Ambassador and five-time Grammy nominee Michael Feinstein is joined on stage with stage, film, and television star Cheyenne Jackson. Jackson has been featured on 12 different albums, and appeared in such mega-hits/critical favorites such as Glee, 30 Rock, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Law & Order.

Denzal Sinclaire April 16, 2016 at 8pm The Palladium Multiple nominee of the Juno Award (Canada’s Grammy Award), and a recipient of the 2004 National Jazz Award for “Best Album,” Denzal Sinclaire evokes a profound emotional interaction with his audience, touching the listener with his passionate and sincere delivery of every song he sings. Saxophonist Joshua Redman is one of the most acclaimed and charismatic jazz artists to have emerged in the ‘90s and has established himself as one of the most consistent and successful bandleaders. He has worked and recorded with many great jazz artists for two decades. He looks forward to pushing musical boundaries as he joins forces with his friends and colleagues, The Bad Plus, in a very special concert.

Grammy-winning saxophonist/composer Joe Lovano and the equally lauded guitarist/composer John Scofield return to the spotlight together. Audience members will enjoy the next level in their partnership – the sum of their collective years of experience, creativity and technique presented with intensity, skill and fun as Scofield and Lovano showcase their dynamic new ensemble.

Regina Carter & Kenny Barron November 21, 2015 at 8pm The Palladium Violin star and MacArthur "Genius" Grant recipient, Regina Carter, is paired with jazz piano giant Kenny Barron in an intimate duet setting, first heard on their remarkable 2001 collaboration, Freefall. Barron is a 2010 NEA Jazz Master who has helped define and extend the jazz tradition. A nine-time Grammy nominee, his storied career has included extended associations with Stan Getz, Yusef Lateef and Freddie Hubbard.

Christian McBride Big Band March 4, 2016 at 8pm The Palladium Four-time Grammy-winning jazz bassist Christian McBride can be likened to a force of nature, fusing the fire and fury of a virtuoso with the depth and grounding of a seasoned journeyman. McBride won a 2012 Grammy Award with his big band for The Good Feeling, featuring his own arrangements of jazz standards like “Broadway” and original works like “Bluesin’ in Alphabet City,” which was commissioned by Wynton Marsalis for the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.

Ramsey Lewis Quartet: The In Crowd & Hang On Ramsey 50th Anniversary January 9, 2016 at 8pm The Palladium Ramsey has been an iconic leader in the contemporary jazz movement for over 50 years, with an unforgettable sound and outgoing personality that has allowed him to cross over to the pop and R&B charts. In the mid 60’s, Lewis was the nation’s most successful jazz pianist, topping the charts with “The ‘In’ Crowd” and “Hang On Sloopy.” Both singles each sold over one million copies, and were awarded gold discs. Now Ramsey is revisiting these classic records in this special performance.

If you aren’t already familiar with the eight artists who comprise the SFJAZZ Collective, you will be. As soloists, composers and bandleaders, they represent what’s happening now in jazz. More than master instrumentalists, each member possesses a totally individual creative voice, working collectively to express a unified musical identity.

Larry Gatlin & the Gatlin Brothers have been dazzling audiences for 60 years. The trio has performed in concert stages all over the world, and has seen their records top the charts and touch the lives of fans from eight to eighty. Larry says of their 60th Anniversary Tour, “We’re not calling it a farewell or a final tour. We’re calling it the 60th Anniversary Celebration. By no means are we retiring.”

Legendary singer and songwriter, Rosanne Cash has been touring successfully behind her acclaimed 2014 album, The River and the Thread, which garnered Cash three Grammy awards including Best Americana Album. Cash won her first Grammy in 1985 and has recorded 15 albums, including Seven Year Ache, King’s Record Shop, and more recently, Black Cadillac and The List. She has charted 21 Top 40 country singles.

Tanya Tucker October 31, 2015 at 8pm The Palladium Only 13 when her provocative “Delta Dawn” caused a nationwide stir and became a Top 10 country hit, Tucker has built one of the most successful and compelling careers in music. Considered one of the very few females of the “outlaw” country movement, she holds a Grammy award, two CMA awards, Two Academy of Country Music awards, and three CMT Awards. Twenty-three of her albums have landed in the country Top 40 chart since her 1972 debut.

Ronnie Milsap: Farewell Tour November 20, 2015 at 8pm The Palladium After four decades in the music business, Ronnie Milsap will be saying goodbye to the road. Ronnie Milsap is country music’s first successful blind singer and one of the most successful and versatile country “crossover” singers of his time. His songs appeal to both country and pop fans with songs that have crossed over to both markets. He is credited with six Grammy Awards and forty No. 1 country hits, third to George Strait and Conway Twitty. He was selected for induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2014.

Nearing their 5th decade together, the iconic and profoundly influential Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, often cited as a catalyst for an entire movement in Country Rock and American Roots Music, continues to add to their legendary status. With multiplatinum and gold records, strings of top ten hits such as “Fishin’ In The Dark” and “Mr. Bojangles,” multiple Grammy, IBMA, CMA Awards and nominations, the band’s accolades continue to accumulate.

The Oak Ridge Boys April 23, 2016 at 8pm The Palladium Theirs is one of the most distinctive and recognizable sounds in the music industry. The four-part harmonies and upbeat songs of the Oak Ridge Boys have spawned dozens of Country hits and a No. 1 Pop smash, earned them Grammy, Dove, CMA, and ACM awards and garnered a host of other industry and fan accolades. The National Dance Company of Siberia was founded in 1960 and has been a success from the very outset based on its original style of performing Siberian dances. With a company of 50 accomplished dancers, you will be captivated by the vivid character portrayals, the musical movements, and the fanciful patterns of the choreographic design. The National Dance Company of Siberia, like all the very best dance companies, has something for everybody and should not be missed.

The Bollywood Masala Orchestra and Dancers of India present “Spirit of India,” a new step toward a bold vision in Indian live music and dance being presented to the world for the first time. With 17 professional artists onstage, you will experience the soul of a veritable feast of Indian sounds, featuring a mix of Indian and Western instruments such as bass drums, side drums, trombone, tabla, dholak, harmonium, and clarinet, among many others. Your feet will soon be tapping along without you even realizing it.

Embark on a global musical journey with the Silk Road Ensemble formed under the artistic direction of cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Since 2000, the Ensemble has been redefining world music for 21st Century audiences. Representing a global array of cultures, Silk Road musicians co-create art, performances and ideas. They draw on a rich tapestry of traditions that make up our shared cultural heritage, creating a new musical language—a uniquely engaging and accessible encounter between the foreign and the familiar that reflects our many-layered contemporary identities.

Spirit of Freedom tells the story of Irish independence. Through music, song, dance, and storytelling, Celtic Nights honors the struggle of a people fighting to gain freedom, independence, and true democracy.

Son de Madera November 13, 2015 at 8pm The Tarkington Son de Madera represents the leading success in the current son jarocho movement (a musical and dance genre from Veracruz, Mexico). Son de Madera´s performances are sensuous and with an exquisite sense of musicianship and have been featured on numerous television and radio programs in Mexico and the USA. Spain’s premiere flamenco dancer and choreographer, José Porcel, and his company of gifted dancers and musicians dazzle audiences with an explosion of passionate rhythms, powerful movement, vibrant colors, and breathtaking choreography. Porcel has been dancing Andalusian folkloric dances and flamenco since the age of 13, and has spent his life studying in Madrid with the masters of the craft. Now he brings his extraordinary company to the Center to share the customs, the culture, the art and, most of all, the passion of the Flamenco.

Clearly, the future is theirs.” – The New York Times Performing Alvin Ailey’s signature work, Revelations, the company is sure to deliver an evening of dazzling choreography & movement. Ailey II is universally renowned for merging the spirit and energy of the country’s best young dance talent with the passion and creative vision of today’s most outstanding emerging choreographers. With new Artistic Director Troy Powell at the helm, Ailey II continues to thrive as he brings a fresh dimension to this beloved company.

San Francisco’s Alonzo King LINES Ballet leaps to uncharted heights with bold new dance innovations that break the mold of what ballet can be. The company will perform Alonzo King’s latest work inspired by animal “soundscapes” by famed bio-acoustician Dr. Bernie Krause. Krause is known for collaborations with The Doors, The Byrds, Stevie Wonder, and for dozens of Hollywood films including Rosemary’s Baby, Castaway, and Apocalypse Now. SPOTLIGHT SHOWS Re-inventing the Radio: An Evening with Ira Glass January 23, 2016 at 8pm The Palladium The creator of the public radio show This American Life talks about his program and how it’s put together: what makes a compelling story, where they find the amazing stories for their show, how he and his staff are trying to push broadcast journalism to do things it doesn’t usually do. As part of this, Glass mixes stories from the show, live onstage, combining his narration with pre-taped quotes and music, recreating the sound of the show as the audience watches. And he plays funny and memorable moments from the show, and talks about what was behind their creation.

The Band of the Royal Marines with the Pipes, Drums, & Highland Dancers of the Scots Guards February 5, 2016 at 8pm The Palladium In their distinguishing white helmets, Royal Marines Bands are celebrated for the quality of their music, visual grandeur and precision drill. On the concert platform they enjoy a similar reputation ensuring their continuing popularity with their audiences. The Band’s repertoire includes popular classics, Big Band, stimulating contemporary works and entertaining solo features. They also provide jazz, string and woodwind ensembles, making the Royal Marines musician one of the most versatile and adept in military music.

SEP Science of Sound The Palladium is a perfect venue to learn about the complex process of sound propagation. During this program, the Center’s audio engineer engages 3rd grade students in a real-world application of the vocabulary and concepts they learn in the classroom.

The Great American Songbook Foundation The mission of the Great American Songbook Foundation is to inspire and educate by celebrating the Great American Songbook. The beautiful melodies and thoughtful lyrics created by the musical geniuses of Tin Pan Alley, Broadway, and Hollywood during the first half of the Twentieth century represent the Golden Age of American Popular Music. The Great American Songbook Foundation carries out its unique mission to preserve America’s rich musical legacy in numerous ways: The Songbook Archive houses physical artifacts such as sheet music, personal papers, musical arrangements, and books available to students, educators, and researchers.

The Songbook Gallery displays rotating interactive exhibits that share the history, music, and culture of the Songbook. The Songbook Academy is a national program for high school singers, and is the only competition dedicated to the music of the Songbook. The Songbook Film Series, a partnership with Heartland Film, features classic, Truly Moving Picture Award-winning movies presented on the big screen in the Palladium. The Songbook Hall of Fame recognizes those who have made a significant contribution to the Great American Songbook by inducting a new class each year. A permanent exhibit honoring the people and personalities who created
