This project was prepared over a year in JC2 2020, consisting of one final oil painting and eight preparation boards to document the exploration process and theme development.
This art coursework is an honest and personal portrayal of my experiences as a foreign scholar living alone in Singapore. It delves into the challenges I faced with culture shock, language barriers, homesickness, and the personal growth and adaptation that followed. A wide range of 2D painting and drawing media were explored to capture emotions and specific atmospheres. The final artwork, titled "Only Tell You Those Happy Stories", is an oil on canvas painting that depicts my personal journey in life-size with a wish to connect with others who may have had similar experiences. The use of oil on canvas creates a tactile and emotional depth that brings to life the many layers of my experience.
