Something was missing though. They felt the need to nurture brands for the future generations. Enter Honda Girl! She burst on the scene in 2002 and gave customers a choice of an import. With The Success of Honda the Causeway Family decided to round out the team with Nissan Boy! He joined the Family in 2007. Nissan added a Larger Import lineup than Honda that included trucks. KEALIA GRACE SMITH Crowned 2016 Little Miss Stafford

Stafford To w n s h i p Founders Day was held on June 11 at the Doc Cramer Fields, featuring rides, vendors, food, performances, pageants, and an amazing fireworks show to close out the festivities.

It also saw the coronation of a new Little Miss Stafford, as 7 year old Kealia Grace Smith of Manahawkin claimed the crown.

The Little Miss Stafford participants all took part in local events for five weeks leading up to the pageant to learn more about each other and their community.

They painted and decorated their parade float - a large pirate ship complete with a sail and cannons - in keeping with this year’s theme, Pirates of the Pines.

Meghan Lopez, last year’s Miss Stafford, interviewed each of the participants. Kealia, an aspiring

veterinarian, was happy to discuss her pets and her love of animals, as well as some of her favorites. Her favorite television show is The Amazing Race because “you get to see different places all over the world.”

“I was extremely excited to participate in Little Miss Stafford,” she said. “I can’t wait to see all the cool things that I’ll be able to do as Little Miss Stafford.”

As Little Miss Stafford, Kealia will participate in many local events including the Halloween Parade, the Harvest Festival, the township tree lighting, egg hunt, and next year’s Founder’s Day, where she’ll get to ride in a Causeway Ford vehicle for the parade.

She’s already picked out her ride.

“A Mustang convertible,” she requested. “I would love it in purple, my favorite color, or silver.”

Kealia loves academics, taking piano, ballet, and vocal lessons, and learning all there is to know about animals and nature. During her reign as Little Miss Stafford, she hopes to work with Miss Stafford 2016, Natalie Bevan, and to participate in activities to help animals in need.

Do you stand-up paddle?

If you do, then you will want to know about the LBI Paddle Cup sponsored by Naish and presented by Island Surf & Sail. The LBI Paddle Cup has been created to be a fun race that all levels of stand-up paddlers can enjoy.

The event will take place on Saturday, September 17th where anyone who is looking for a fun time and has stand-up paddle boarded before for at least an hour can join.

Unlike other races where the fastest paddlers win all the top prizes, this is a poker run style event, which means the best hand of cards wins, not the fastest finish time. This type of event gives everyone who competes a fair chance to win one of the two top prizes. The race idea has been top of mind for Island Surf & Sail’s owner Terry Deakyne over the past ten years. Terry has been stand-up paddling boarding since its inception. He has even completed the 28-mile paddle around Manhattan, NY 6 times.

During the 6 mile short course, from Brant Beach to Harvey Cedars, there will be 4 checkpoints where you will acquire your poker cards and be able to hydrate and take a rest. There will also be an elite course that is 12 miles, from Beach Haven to Harvey Cedars, for the paddler who wants more of a challenge.

The top prizes for this event are two Naish Glide X30 GTW touring stand-up paddle boards, one 12’6” board and the other one is a 12’0” board, (both are a $2000 Value) and are on display at the Causeway Family of Dealerships.

To help you get prepared for the race, on August 29th at 10:00am in Bayview Park, Brant Beach, Island Surf & Sail will be hosting a stand-up paddle clinic to teach paddlers the best paddling board techniques and helpful tips when you are on and off the water.

Following the race on September 17th there will be a celebration at the final checkpoint at Sunset Park in Harvey Cedars. Food will be catered by Shore Fire Grill and the entertainment will be provided by host Andy Chase from the Hawk 105.7 radio station.

This race will benefit the various beach patrols on Long Beach Island and the Non-Profit Terra Foundation.

The Terra Foundation organization is dedicated to maintaining and improving the environment on Long Beach Island, NJ as well as the surrounding area. With an innovative and sustainable approach we can enhance our area with responsible tactics. The goal of the Terra Foundation is to make clean energy (wave, solar, wind) that is accessible to the community to better our health and the environment. Nissan announces “America’s Best Truck Warranty” 5 Years/100,000 Miles Bumper-To-Bumper For 2017 Titan And Titan XD

Nissan today announced “America’s Best Truck Warranty”* on its 2017 TITAN and TITAN XD full-size pickups – featuring bumper-to-bumper coverage of 5-years/100,000-miles, whichever comes first. The announcement is part of Nissan’s “Year of the Truck” – a new product onslaught of pickups, SUVs and CUVs. The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, Peoples Pantry (INSPIRE NJ) and Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation have opened The B.E.A.T. Center (Bringing Everyone All Together) – a place where families and individuals can access food, job training and resources to help end the cyclical causes of hunger in Ocean County.

This “one-stop shop” will serve as a FoodBank satellite location that includes a food distribution center, production kitchen for at-risk children in after school programs, culinary skills training program and resources such as SNAP (Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program also known as food stamps), healthcare and free tax preparation, as well as the permanent home of Peoples Pantry, a clientchoice model food pantry and a second location of JBJ Soul Kitchen, a non-profit community restaurant where diners can pay for their meal by making a minimum donation of $10 or volunteering to work in the kitchen and restaurant.

“The B.E.A.T. Center functions like a 21st century town square where programs and services are brought together and where the community can gather to get help and give help,” said FoodBank Executive Director, Carlos Rodriguez. “We know that there are 1 in 8 people in Ocean County who struggle with hunger. We support 134 feeding programs in Ocean County and the need for resources beyond food is critical. We aim to shorten the food lines by providing a variety of resources that lead to financial health and wellbeing. Having all of that under one roof is a game changer.”

Ocean County is New Jersey’s fastest growing county and was “ground zero” for Hurricane Sandy.

According to FEMA, over 40,000 structures in the county were damaged or destroyed in the storm – 55% of the state’s total. The creation of The B.E.A.T. Center is in response to the reality that today, more

than three years after the storm, there are thousands of families who are still struggling to regain housing, financial stability and to overcome food insecurity— and they are turning to local agencies in record numbers for assistance.

“Of all of the lessons learned from Sandy, the most jarring one was how financially stretched our middle class neighbors are. This collaboration will allow us to continue our work and provide the services that are so desperately needed and deserved by this underserved demographic,” said Patricia Donaghue, Executive Director of The Peoples Pantry (INSPIRE NJ).

Ocean County Hunger Facts: • 1 in 5 Ocean County residents are lowincome (200% of poverty) or poor (at or below poverty) – that’s $15,000 for a family of 4.

• 71,300 residents, or 1 in 8 people in Ocean County receive food and benefits.

• Seniors make up 21.4% of the population compared to the 14.1% statewide.

• Nearly 13% of New Jersey’s veterans live in Ocean County.

• There are 134 feeding programs in Ocean County. Programs include Pantries, Mobile Sites, Soup Kitchens, Shelters, After School and Back Pack, Senior Food and others.

The impact of this collaboration is projected to provide $5 million in support to families in need in its first year. One of The B.E.A.T. Center’s goals is to also establish a strong, visible presence in Ocean County that will raise hunger awareness, attract volunteers and advocates, and encourage food donations and financial support.

The B.E.A.T. Center has been launched with initial philanthropic support from The David Tepper Foundation, a generous grant from the OceanFirst Foundation, and several other significant grants.

The Causeway Family of Dealerships has agreed to donate $20 to Interfaith Health and Support Services for each person who tests a Lincoln. There is no cost to the driver. The event will be held at Saint Mary’s of the Pines Center on McKinley Avenue from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

The Lincoln Motor Car Company - locally through the Causeway Family of Dealerships - offers any local non-profit the opportunity to raise as much as $8,000 for their charity through their “Driven to Give” program.

Driven to Give events are held throughout the nation.

We hope to get hundreds of our Interfaith volunteers, their friends, and family members out to the event. It will only take a few minutes to show your license, fill out a little paperwork and then take off for about a 10 minute test drive in a brand new Lincoln. So come out and have a good time with friends and help us raise money for Interfaith .

BACK TO SCHOOL Back on Schedule

There’s a certain comfort taken from routine that one appreciates as one gets older. At this time of the year, that means students heading back to school or university, and for the rest of us, preparing for the cold months ahead. Students who are already back to school may find themselves initially overwhelmed by the amount of work that is piling up. Parents may find themselves overwhelmed by the amount of money they have to spend, or the increased pressures placed on their time and schedule.

But it doesn’t have to be this way. You can successfully handle the increased pressures of school and all the things that it brings to both students and parents.

Accept Daily Routines as a Student One of the hardest lessons to learn as a student is to accept the routines of life. Students often rally against routine as somehow being “boring” or too mainstream. But routines bring structure, and structure brings project completion. There’s no reason a routine can’t include parties, social hang-out time, IM, gaming and Internet time. The sooner you get into and accept a routine, rather than fight against one, the sooner you’ll find it easier to get schoolwork done.

A routine doesn’t mean a written schedule, although many people find that using a day planner or calendar or the like helpful in keeping them organized. Try out different things and find a system that works for you. Some people like to make a daily or weekly “To Do” list, others like to informally break up their time (“Schoolwork during the week, party all weekend!”).

Any system can work, as long as you find one that fits into your lifestyle and your needs.

Accepting a daily routine will help you better organize your needs and find the time to complete schoolwork on time and with greater quality. While you may still need to pull an all-nighter from time to time (hey, old habits die hard!), they will occur less often. A side effect of being less stressed is that you’ll also likely be a better (e.g., more fun to hang around with) friend, student, or significant other.

Incorporate Their Needs Without Losing Yourself One of the hardest lessons to learn as a parent is how to incorporate all of the school and social needs of your children without losing yourself or your own needs in the process. Parents often have a difficult time learning to delegate responsibility for their children’s needs. Yet delegating such responsibility will ensure 

that you don’t try and cram 34 hours of activity within a 24 hour day.

Delegation means, in part, talking to other parents and setting up a local social support network. For instance, just because your daughter needs to go to soccer practice doesn’t mean you alone have to be responsible for getting her there every day. Find other parents that live around you where carpooling can be used. Bunch errands and chores together once a week, so you’re not overwhelmed by running out every day for this or that. Better yet, have a spouse or family member help you out with the smaller stuff so that you can focus on the things that matter most to you.

By learning to delegate, you’ll be learning that you don’t need to feel overwhelmed with your children’s school and social needs. This will make you a better parent as you’ll be less stressed and more fun to be around!

Seek Balance by Finding Harmony Harmony is your internal calm. Your life reflects how you feel -- about yourself, about others, about the priorities you’ve set for yourself. You won’t achieve a balance in your life without first achieving that internal calm. And that internal calm won’t occur if you’re stressed out, feeling overwhelmed, and running around in circles.

Organize your needs and your priorities first. Find the daily routine in your life that is working for you.

If your current routine isn’t working, start changing it by changing just one thing you do every day. Maybe it means instead of beginning your day with rolling out of bed and running to class, you take some time to grab a bite to eat. Maybe it means instead of doing errands every day, you resolve to do them only once every other day.

They key is to start small with little things first. Too often people fail in trying to make changes in their lives or their routines because they try and change it all at once. Success will be achieved if you pick one smaller thing and work on changing that over the course of an entire week. Then pick another small thing, and take your time with it. Although this way will take longer, you’re more likely to stick with the changes you make and find changes that make sense to you (not just random changes that someone else recommended).

Start today and before you know it, you’ll be back on schedule!

The Civic Hatchback will be available in LX, Sport, EX, EX-L, and Sport Touring trims, and will feature a single engine for the U.S. market: a 1.5-liter DOHC direct-injected turbocharged in-line 4-cylinder with peak output of 174 horsepower and 162 lb.-ft. of torque in LX, EX and EX-L trims and 180 horsepower and 162 lb.ft. of torque in the Sport and an all-new Sport Touring grade, which feature a high-flow center-mounted exhaust.

The turbocharged engine will be offered with either a sporty CVT (all trims) or a performance-inspired 6-speed manual transmission (LX, Sport, and EX trims). Anticipated EPA fuel economy ratings of 31/40/34 mpg (city/highway/combined) for CVTequipped models, based on the newer, more stringent model year 2017 EPA ratings requirements, put the 5-door Honda Civic Hatchback at the top of its class.

Working in concert with the Honda turbocharged powertrain is the Civic’s more rigid and lightweight

Yield – 4 servings Total Time – 25 minutes

Ingredients: • 1/2 lb. Linguini • Kosher salt • Freshly ground black pepper • 6 oz. unsliced pancetta (or 6 slices thick-cut bacon) • 1 medium Sweet onion • 1 lb. Brussels sprouts • 2 clove garlic • 1/3c. dry white wine • 3 oz. Parmesan Directions: Cook pasta in boiling salted water according to package directions; reserve 1 cup pasta water. Drain.

While pasta is cooking: Sauté pancetta and onion in a large deep skillet over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until pancetta is browned and onions are caramelized, 8 to 10 minutes. Add Brussels sprouts and garlic and sauté, stirring, until leaves are bright green, 2 minutes. Stir in wine, scraping brown bits from bottom of skillet.

Add pasta, grated Parmesan, and 1/2 to 3/4 cup reserved pasta water, and stir until Parmesan is melted and pasta is creamy and well coated. Season with salt and pepper.

Serve immediately sprinkled with pepper and shaved Parmesan.

Choosing the Right Obstetrician For Your Pregnancy Journey Selecting the right obstetrician to help expand your family is an important decision, deserving of the same thorough research and evaluation as other big choices. If you’re getting ready to become pregnant or suspect that you Lisa Vernon, M.D. Alma Bustamante, M.D. might be pregnant, you Southern Ocean Medical Center should make sure you choose a doctor that you are comfortable with for the long journey ahead.

Your obstetrician will be by your side for the next nine months, so take the time to meet with and select the person you think will be best for the job.

Talk to friends and family for recommendations, consult with your family physician for referrals, and even research doctors in your area using online databases.

“Before even meeting with a doctor, take some time to consider what is important to you and your partner during your pregnancy and delivery,” recommends Lisa Vernon, M.D., an OB/GYN at Southern Ocean Medical Center. Vernon and partner Alma Bustamante, M.D., practice at Forked River Obstetrics and Gynecology. “Be sure that your ideas fit with the physician’s practice. Ask questions that can help you understand a physician’s qualifications, philosophies, and birth practices, and then make the best decision for you and your family.”

First, find a practice that fits your needs. Some physicians practice alone, while others are part of a small group, and some are part of a large group.

Dr. Vernon suggests doing your research, and then asking the following questions: • What is your general philosophy concerning pregnancy and birth?

• Who is responsible for me if you’re not available?

• How do I get emergency care after office hours?

• Who will see me for my checkups?

• At which hospitals do you deliver?

• What is your philosophy on pain relief during labor?

Once you’ve selected the right doctor, learn about the hospitals where she/he can deliver your baby. Call to see if the hospital will provide a tour and ask questions.

• What types of classes do they offer for childbirth? Breastfeeding? Siblings? Grandparents?

• Are the rooms private or semi-private?

• Who can be in the room during the delivery, and what is the visitation policy?

• Where can your partner stay/sleep if you are in labor for a long time?

Dr. Vernon and Dr. Bustamante care for expectant moms, as well as women of all ages, at their practice located at 730 Lacey Road, Suite G08, in Forked River. They are currently accepting new patients and can be reached at 609-693-2900. Both physicians are on staff at Southern Ocean Medical Center in Manahawkin.

At Southern Ocean Medical Center, the Maternity Pavilion features a family-centered, homelike atmosphere of private birthing suites where expectant mothers labor, deliver and recover in a relaxed and comfortable environment. Through the Southern Ocean Medical Center Family Resource Center, a wide variety of parenting and childbirth education classes are offered to help new parents with pregnancy, labor, delivery and childcare. In addition, expectant and new parents can take advantage of an extensive lending library that offers a comprehensive selection of books and videos on pregnancy, childbirth and parenting, as well as free internet access. The Men’s Club of Greenbriar Oceanaire Active Adult Community in Waretown will again sponsor a golf outing to raise funds for various veterans’ organizations. The outing is scheduled for Monday, September 19, 2016.

This is the 12th year for this event and so far due to the success of this event, over $300,000 has been donated to veterans’ organizations.

The recipients of this year’s golf outing will again be a variety of military related charities.

The golf outing is held at Greenbriar Oceanaire’s own course, which is an Arthur Hill’s designed 18 hole championship layout. The event is open to both men and women. The entry fee is $160 per golfer which includes: round of golf with cart, BBQ lunch, sumptuous dinner in the clubhouse ballroom and additional prizes.
