The “N” Word is Not A Cuss Word?

The special Carson City Council meeting held on January 5th was another drama filled session worthy of a reality television show. The special session was held to decide if City Clerk Jim Dear should be removed from commissions he was self appointed to.
After the votes were taken and approved to remove the City Clerk a recess was taken. Prior to taking the votes, Mayor Robles outlined several accusations against Jim Dear, including his use of the “N” word against another city official which Dear denied on a

what appeared to be a clear act of defiance. After being told by Mayor Albert Robles that he was no longer elgible to sit on the dais, Dear asked the city Attorney if he had to leave, the answer was yes. Dear stepped down and spoke during oral
arguments berating Mayor Robles. During oral arguments Jim Dear admitted that he has “Cussed” and that the “N” word was not a cuss word but a derogatory statement.
After Dear, another Carson resident, Daniel Merga continued the tirade against Mayor Robles echoing the same sentiment as City Clerk Dear about the use of the “N” word and ended his statement to Mayor Robles by saying “I don’t know why the African American community in Carson still supports you.” A special election to recall Jim Dear will be held in Carson on February 23, 2016.

City Council meeting on January 5th was excruciatingly painful for me as a African American man.
Its 2016 and the year has already started with a bang in the City of Carson. After what appeared to be a slam dunk that Carson would be the new home for the Chargers and Raiders, the NFL voted to approve the Rams move to Inglewood.
There were many Pros and Cons to having a new billion dollar stadium in Carson, however: it could not be denied the new NFL stadium would have given Carson a worldwide recognition that no amount of money could buy, not to mention the jobs and tax revenue it would have brought to the city. Then there is the continued “Soap Opera” with the current City Clerk. Sitting in the special

In my opinion it is a hate filled curse word used to hurt, harm or insult the person it is directed to and any attempt to minimize its “sting” is a sly attempt to try and hide behind legalistic mumbo jumbo. Its sad that in 2016 we are still having arguments over the use of this word, which was created for one purpose, to demean black people.
The use of the “N” word should never be tolerated by any elected public official. Period. The Word of God says that “out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. Carson residents must ask themselves is this what’s in the heart of the City Clerk and his supporters?

“We wish Inglewood and our former partners, the Chargers and the Raiders, the best of luck,” said Mayor Robles.
Meanwhile, Carson city leaders also said they will be watching with interest how a preliminary ruling by the Federal Aviation Administration may affect the Inglewood stadium project.
Two months ago, the FAA issued a “notice of presumed hazard” that concludes the Inglewood stadium’s height, building design and composition posed a major flight risk for jetliners at LAX. The proposed stadium is located about three miles from LAX and is directly under the
flight path taken by 100’s of planes daily as they approach LAX to land.
Former U.S. Department Homeland Security secretary Tom Ridge and others have repeatedly warned about the public safety dangers posed by the proposed Inglewood stadium’s proximity to LAX’s flight operations.
Rams’ owner Stan Kroenke has submitted a plan to deal with the FAA’s concerns. But it remains to be seen whether the FAA or others, including the pilots’ association and passenger consumer groups, will be satisfied that an Inglewood stadium can coexist safely with LAX.
“If the League must revisit this issue, Carson stands ready,” said Mayor Robles. “Our site will be exclusively available as a stadium site until at least April when our current agreement with the Chargers and Raiders expires.”

LA Galaxy Announce 2016 MLS Schedule
Galaxy open 21st season in MLS at StubHub Center on Sunday, March 6, against D.C. United; 17 games will be broadcast on national television on ESPN, FOX Sports and Univision networks
CARSON, Calif. (Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016) – The LA Galaxy announced today the 34-game schedule for the 2016 Major League Soccer Regular Season. The Galaxy will kick off the 2016 MLS Regular Season at StubHub Center on Sunday, March 6, against D.C. United (7 p.m. PT, UniMás). LA Galaxy Season Ticket Memberships for the 2016 MLS season are available for purchase now. Season Ticket Members and Galaxy fans can go to www.lagalaxy.com/tickets/seasontickets or call 877-3GALAXY (3425299) to secure their 2016 LA Galaxy Season Ticket package. Information for singlegame tickets will be announced at a later date. Of the Galaxy’s
34 matches, 17 matches will be broadcast on one of MLS’ national television partners: ESPN, FOX Sports and Univision networks. Seven matches will be shown on ESPN, six will be shown on FOX and four will be shown on Univision networks in Spanish language broadcasting, with eight of the 17 nationally-broadcast matches played at StubHub Center.
The 2016 season is the second of Major League Soccer’s eightyear television and media rights partnerships with ESPN, FOX Sports and Univision networks.
The Galaxy will take on Western Conference teams at least two times during the season and Eastern Conference teams just once. LA play Colorado Rapids, Houston Dynamo, San Jose Earthquakes, Seattle Sounders FC and Sporting Kansas City three times each. The Galaxy will host Eastern Conference sides Columbus Crew SC, D.C. United, New England Revolution, New York Red Bulls and Orlando City SC at StubHub Center, while traveling to face Chicago Fire, Montreal Impact, New
York City FC, Philadelphia Union, and Toronto FC.
The first California Clasico – the team’s annual match with rivals San Jose Earthquakes – will take place on Saturday, March 19, at StubHub Center. The Galaxy will again host San Jose on Sunday, May 22, before traveling north for a match at Avaya Stadium on Saturday, June 25. The Galaxy are 28-20-12 all-time against San Jose in MLS matchups.
The club’s annual Fourth of July game features a match against Vancouver Whitecaps FC at StubHub Center, marking the 21th consecutive season that the Galaxy will host a game on Independence Day, the longest such stretch in American professional sports. A full schedule with times and local broadcast information will be announced at a later date.

How often is our reaction to sin something which could be described as gentleness?
Gentleness doesn’t mean saying the sin is ok. Gentleness doesn’t mean being dismissive to spare the person’s “feelings”.
Gentleness means you are clear in your intent not to harm the person, but help. It means communicating in humility and tenderness. Gentleness is how Jesus responds to those trapped in sin.
Think of the woman caught in adultery in John 8, or the Samaritan woman in John 4. Jesus said “Hey, what you’ve been up to is wrong. But let me help you. I am not interested in seeing you punished, but in seeing you made whole”. When do we see Jesus get
harsh? It isn’t with the “dirty sinners”. Prostitutes, tax collectors, adulterers, pagans, the drunks, the drug dealers, the homosexuals and all those folks the Pharisees glared at, they found Jesus to be tender, kind, humble.
The only folks who get an earful of “hellfire” from Jesus are the religious folks; the self-righteous, arrogant, condescending; those who are certain they are right, and the “others” are wrong.

GLOBAL TROUBLE By Dean L. Jones
Increasingly, public health advocates denounce the consumption of processed sugar, often making the comparison to smoking cigarettes in terms of the danger it poses to health. In general, added sugar is trouble to our heart, weight, and insulin health. The following is a reminder of the significant sugar issues globally discussed in 2015. The Scientific American Magazine reported on how processed sugar and fat trick the brain into wanting more food.
Junk foods can muddle the brain's satietycontrol mechanism, thereby sending a person's appetite into hyper-drive. USA Today published recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention studies on how added sugar increases your risk of death from heart disease. Consequently, processed sugar not only makes a person fatter, it may also be the cause of death from heart disease.
ABC News gave international data that for every additional 150 calories of added sugar downed per person per day, the prevalence of diabetes rose by 1%, and people who ate the most added sugar more than doubled their risk of death
from heart disease.
The New York Times Magazine stated how sugar is a toxin or a poison and a likely dietary cause of several other chronic ailments, including heart disease, hypertension and many common cancers among them. It referenced a new movie called “That Sugar Film” dealing with the hazards of consuming too much added sugar, which can be found in an estimated 80% of all supermarket foods.
One of several Canadian Broadcast Corporation (CBC) News articles addressed how sugar added to food is causing greater obesity, which was narrated by U.S. journalist Katie Couric. It placed considerable blame on food manufacturers (ketchup, pasta sauce, salad dressing, breakfast cereals, juice and energy drinks, baked goods, yogurt and even baby formula) for fuelling a sugar dependency that is creating a global obesity epidemic. Equally, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) News featured scientific experts that want sugar intake to be cut in half to reduce obesity risk and improve dental health. A committee of scientists has advised the British gov-

ernment to halve the current recommended daily intake of sugar, where no more than 5% of daily calories should come from added sugar, or about seven teaspoons. Children are manifesting increased rates of adult diseases like hypertension or high triglycerides, not to mention type-2 diabetes and fatty liver disease. A televised documentary showed how after just 10 days of eliminating sugar from the diet, obese children improved their blood pressure, cholesterol readings and other markers of health. All of the children considerably reduced their risk of diabetes, as their blood sugar and insulin levels normalized.
As monitored, processed sugar is trouble for the world's population. In 2016, this weekly column will continue to comment on the dastardly effects derived from excessive sugar consumption.
