23 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: 24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. 25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. 26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come. 27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. 29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. 30 For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep. 31 For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. 32 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world. 1 Corinthians 11:23-32 (KJV)
“damned” or “damnation” in verse 29. With these in mind, let’s see some things you need to know to maximally beneVit from the communion.
Realize You Are A New Creation This means that to discern yourself, you have to separate yourself and recognize who you are and who Christ has made you. So, you should recognize, discern, and set yourself apart, realizing who you truly are. This also implies that when you come to partake of the Lord’s Table, you come with a remembrance and recognition of who you are in Christ. You are the body of Christ, so come remembering that you are the body of Christ and that the body of Christ is holy. Also, as the body of Christ, you are to walk in love. This means that you enjoy peace and you do not live in strife. You should come remembering the gentleness that is meant to Vlow through you as the body of Christ.
In this article, I will be showing you some keys to maximally beneVit from the communion, and its relevance to our covenant as new creations in Christ.
It is not just talking about fornication; it is also talking about the very character that is in the body of Christ. When you come to partake of the communion, you have to discern, recognize, and remember that you are a saint who is meant to live holy and live right. You’re a saint who is meant to walk in love, not just with other saints, but even with people who do not know Christ. As a saint, you are meant to exhibit the agape (unconditional) love of Jesus Christ and enjoy the love, joy, and the peace of God. You should be gentle and have self-control. That’s who you are. That’s how you can partake with joy.
Take note of the words, “discerning and damnation” in verse 29, and the words, “judge and judged” in verse 31. When you look at the original text of these verses, you will discover that they’re saying exactly the same thing. The word “judge” is the word that was used for “discern” in verse 29 and the word that appears as “judged" is the word used for
The Scripture says that, if you don’t discern yourself, you will be damned. When you drink, you drink damnation unto yourself when you do not discern yourself. The word “damned”, talks about a different type of separation. It’s when you are put away, or selected out for judgment; this happens when you don’t recognize that
