(Part 1)

Pastor Nkechi Ene (Mrs.) 21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.

22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’

23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.

24 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the Vloods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.

26 “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the Vloods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”

28 And so it was, when Jesus had ended these sayings, that the people were astonished at His teaching, 29 for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

Matthew 7:23-29

“Building” is deVined as the art or the process of erecting houses and other things. Therefore, there are some skills involved in building

houses of things. Obviously, it takes a period of time for someone to build anything that is why you have to take some lessons in building.

Towards the end of the portion where we read, we see that Jesus taught some lessons on building. He taught these lessons with authority just like an expert. Due to this, people listened to Him and they were astonished because He spoke as one who was sure of the source of His information.

In this article and the next, we are going to really settle down and learn some good lessons in building because we will be learning from Someone who taught with authority.

It Is Your Responsibility To Build Your House 24 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 26 “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: Matthew 7: 24,26

The Virst thing we have to recognize here is that it is your own responsibility to build your house. Jesus said this man built his house, He says the other man built his own house too. It is so important for you to realise that it is your sole responsibility to build your house; no other person can build your house for you.

Jesus cannot build your house for you, your pastor will not be able to do it, neither your father nor mother, not even your spouse can build your house for you because every single person has his or her own responsibility to build his or her own house.

We can say that everybody has a house to build and it is taken for granted that as a Christian you should know that your house should be built according to the pattern or the purpose of God. So, you have to build the house of your health, you have to build the house of your Vinances, the house of your marriage, the house of your wealth and Vinances, etc, basically everything that pertains to your life. You have to build those little houses, and those are the areas where we will apply what we will learn from this study.

As an individual you have got to build the house that is you. You, in this case, refers to those various areas of utmost importance in your life. For you to be referred to as successful in life, it means that have to be successful in building every area of various facets of your life that makes up you. However, it hardly happens this way. You may be successful in building the house of your marriage, but you may not be successful building the house of your Vinances. You may be successful building the house of your Vinances, but you may not be successful building the house of your health, etc.

Our text describes the storms as coming from three different points all designed to pull down your house. However, I think these three points of the storm generally have a

for them. Remember that Jesus said the wise man built his house and the foolish man built his house. Thus, it is your sole responsibility to build your own house. It is important to note that the house you build today is the

way of summarizing what can never come against you.

house you are going to live in tomorrow. So, you must build your house according to the pattern and principles of God.

The Storms Are Not Your Problem 25 and the rain descended, the Vloods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.

27 and the rain descended, the Vloods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”

Matthew 7:25,27

From the verses above, we discover that the rain descended, the Vloods came, the wind blew, and beat down on both houses.

Therefore, the very same storm came upon both houses, but we see that one house fell and the other withstood the storm. So, it is safe to say that in life the storms are not the problem. Whatever the state of your marriage, your health, your business, etc, is in now, the storms are not the problem. If you are a mathematician, you will know that in an equation a minus will always cancel out another minus; two negatives cancel each other out. So, if the storm hits the Virst house and then the second one, this effectively cancels out the storm from the equation, thus showing that the storms are not the problem.

You might says, “Well, you don’t know the kind of storms that have come against me in life. You don’t know what I have experienced growing up. You don’t even know what I have seen in marriage, the kind of husband I got married to. If you did, you will not be saying this.” Listen to me, it doesn’t matter the kind of the challenges you have faced, the storms are not the problem, because the moment you accept that the storms are the problem, then you are saying that you are helpless in the stability of your own house. Then, that takes us back to point one; it is your responsibility to build your house. Therefore, the storms are not the problem.

Point #1 “The rain descended...”

These are the storm types that come from places where you expected blessings. For some of you, the storm that has hit your life and destiny is the kind of father that you have. A father is meant to bless you and take care of you, so you expected blessing from him, instead, you got disappointments and opposition. However, you cannot make that the problem because the rain descended but the house did not fall.

For some people it is the kind of marriage you are in. When you got marry you expect blessing from it, but this rain descended. So, the place you were expecting blessing, joy and laughter from, you got sorrow and tears. You have to tell yourself that storm is not the problem. You can withstand that storm because there was a house that withstood that storm.

Point #2 “The /loods came...”

Floods are those things that threaten to carry away all you have ever worked for. They threaten to carry away all have ever believed in, every good thing that has ever happened to you, and everything that you have ever held so dearly. They threaten to breakdown all you have ever invested in. Even that is not the problem because the Bible says that the Vloods came but there was still a house that did not fall.

What is it about the wind? You don’t know where it is coming from; you don’t know where it is going. You know all kinds of problems have come against you, the kinds of stress that have hit you, and you really cannot say where they are coming from and why they are coming. The good news is that it will not pull down your house because the Bible recounts that the winds came but a house withstood it.

Jesus, Master Builder, says, “And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it” (Matthew 16:18) The word “prevail” means to overpower, to be superior in strength, to be strong. So, Jesus was saying that there is a way He would build His church, and no matter the storms, they cannot be a problem. Jesus has built a stormproof church and the gates of hell are not the problem. He is the Master Builder and He says that poverty cannot be superior to the covenant of wealth you have with Him. It does not matter the disease, it cannot overpower “…by His stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5).

Jesus assures us that the gates of hell can never be strong to the detriment of His church.

Some kind of symptoms hit your body, and they attempt to wipe away all the Scriptures on healing that you have ever believed. You stand on the Word of God concerning healing, and a headache still Vinds its way into your body; even typhoid Vinds its way and comes like a Vlood threatening to completely uproot the house of your healing and everything that you ever invested in. You say, “No. I will not let that happen.” Yes! Refuse to accept that they are the problem. Refuse to let them push down your house. It is possible for the rain to descend, it is possible for the Vloods to come, but your building will stand, because Jesus said that there was the house that stood.

“The rain descended…, floods came…, the winds blew…, but one house withstood the storm. So, in life the storms are not the problem.”
