FILM SCREENING BY HORSHAM WRITERS CIRCLE

CAMPBELL’S KINGDOM Campbell’s Kingdom is a 1957 British adventure film directed by Ralph Thomas, based on the 1952 novel of the same name by Hammond Innes. The story is set in Alberta, Canada, and largely follows the principles of the Northwestern genre of film-making. Recently diagnosed with a terminal disease, Bruce Campbell unexpectedly finds himself the owner of a small valley in the Canadian Rocky Mountains as the result of a bequest from his grandfather. After travelling from England, Bruce arrives at “Campbell’s Kingdom” (as the locals disparagingly call it) to find its existence under threat from the construction of a new hydroelectricity dam. Convinced that his grandfather was right and that the Kingdom may be prospective for oil, the race is on to prove that there is oil under Campbell’s Kingdom before the mining company building the dam can flood the valley.

GALLERY FRANCES ROBINSON: A SHARED SPACE

5 August – 15 September 2019 I take my inspiration from the world around me. My work comes from being in the moment, looking at everything with a sense of wonder and inquisitiveness. I try to bring the forms, colours and shapes in the world to my canvas allowing a shared space to be created with the viewer. When painting I am interested in markmaking and am captivated by colour and the relationship between colours.

HORSHAM ARTISTS OPEN STUDIOS (HAOS)

16 September – 27 October 2019 The Gallery will play host to a group exhibition of artworks by 48 HAOS artists, comprising an exciting and varied collection of paintings, prints, sculpture, ceramics, jewellery, glass and textile art. The exhibition will offer a preview of the 2019 HAOS Contemporary Art Fair, taking place over the weekend of 19th/20th October at Parkside Council Offices. All work on display will be available for sale. There is sure to be something to suit all tastes on show!

KENNETH MCINTOSH

28 October - 25 November 2019 Following successful summer exhibitions in both Brighton and Henfield’s Festivals, and in those in the autumn, Kenneth is delighted to mount this exhibition during Horsham’s “Year of Culture”. From small to large canvases, Kenneth trusts his work will connect for a brief moment with some emotion in you the viewer. It’s then he becomes the artist.

TANBRIDGE HOUSE SCHOOL

25 November 2019 – 5 January 2020 This year’s exhibition from Tanbridge House School celebrates the diversity and hard work of year 11 students on the Art and Design GCSE course. Students have researched and explored a wide variety of themes in this showcase, from ‘Identity’ to ‘Messages’ and many others in between. They investigated a range of 2D/3D techniques and methods in the process of finding their voices and making their mark to create this wonderfully rich and creative display. All staff within the department and at the school are proud of the student’s effort and achievements. Many have gone on to continue to study art-based subjects at further education establishments.
