JOE BROWN FAREWELL TOUR Premier rock ‘n’ roll legend Joe Brown has gone from strength to strength as his contemporary achievements continued to gather momentum. He has continued to break box office records and recently received MOJO magazine’s coveted Outstanding Contribution To Music award as well as a much deserved MBE.

SATURDAY 7 SEPTEMBER 7.30PM

In 2017 Joe broke with tradition and toured without a band just taking US legend Henry Gross along. The two tours and ‘Just Joe’ double CD release they undertook together in 2017 and 2018 both broke new ground and were rapturously received by audiences who came in record numbers to confirmed that as a raconteur Joe is second to none and as a performer he is just as comfortable solo as with a band.

£35

Joe has a new band for this tour however, more eclectic and with a different line up to before including among others fiddle virtuoso Tom Leary, ace bass player Andy Crowdy and Joe’s 27 year stalwart band member, drummer, percussionist and singer Phil Capaldi. Joe, who now splits his time between the UK and Nashville, combines timeless classics, rockabilly, gospel, country, bluegrass, and rock ‘n’ roll, all interwoven with his effervescent delivery and humorous reminiscences and as Joe this sensational show is a musical journey not to be missed.

GALLERY JACK LANE: COMEDY GIANTS 1 April – 12 May

Local actor Jack Lane recently obtained four giant paintings of Eric Morecambe, Tommy Cooper, Norman Wisdom and Kenneth Williams. They were removed from Alnwick Playhouse’s auditorium in 2018 ahead of a refurbishment. The canvases were painted by Northumberland artist, Viv Dykes, who has previously illustrated album covers for Alison Moyet and Natalie Cole as well as producing visuals for Wham! and Blur. Using acrylic on canvas, Viv’s technique perfectly captures the energy and personality of the subject. These incredible paintings will be on display alongside original cinema posters consisting of wonderful retro artwork of Norman Wisdom’s films. It’s an exhibition that’s guaranteed to make you smile!

ESTHER VANOOSTRUM: LIFE IN PATCHES 13 May – 23 June

Esther’s work is joyful. Her textiles and drawings combine colour, architectural accuracy, detail, and humour. To complete the images she personalises each piece by using a person’s hobbies, interests, jobs, and history. Her Patchwork Portraits mix tradition with the abstract, leading to intriguing results, and she has a range of functional items; bags and pretty little I-need-one!-items, but most of her work is decorative and varies in size from modest to massive. See www.LifeInPatches.

COLLYERS ADULT EDUCATION – THE ART CLASS 24 June – 4 August

Students have explored the theme of politics, religion, sex and how this is explored through art. The current ‘Brexit’ news inspired a range of portraits capturing prominent politicians in their youth to distorted portrayals today. Work continued on the theme through the medium of pencil, paint and lino cut prints. Experimental artworks in ceramics combining glass and earthenware clay for the paper boat sculptures are beautifully executed. Exploration in ceramics to meet the theme using terracotta, white earthenware clay and porcelain all provide exciting relief and 3D sculptures. Students complete the final stage of the course with independent project work. Once again, this is an exciting array of work to view from a talented group. Students exhibiting: Carole Duffy, Larisa Ennos, Nancy Garner, Paul Garner, Judy Heywood, Lisa, Jacques, Sam Martin, Eve Richings, Karen Staines, Sue Stooks, Alessa Taboga, Natascia Mariotti, Graham Wheeler.

FRANCES ROBINSON: A SHARED SPACE 5 August – 15 September

I take my inspiration from the world around me. My work comes from being in the moment, looking at everything with a sense of wonder and inquisitiveness. I try to bring the forms, colours and shapes in the world to my canvas allowing a shared space to be created with the viewer. When painting I am interested in mark-making and am captivated by colour and the relationship between colours.
